Beware! I made an appt 1 month in advance for a cataract surgery consultation. Today at my appt I'm told I needed to be out of my contacts two weeks before they can take any measurements of my eye so the appt was wasted. Horizon NEVER informed me of this requirement prior to to coming in. Very Poor experience, I'll never go back. read more

Horrible clinic I have been a patient of Dr. Steins for about 5 years. And Dr. Bell for about 2. I cannot even get the triage dept./docs to refill my glaucoma drops WHICH I NEED! A few months back I needed a refill on one of my glaucoma drops and it took OVER 2 WEEKS to get this done and multiple phone calls from me and CVS. Then I ran out od a dry eye spray that Dr. Bell gave me and when CVS tried to refill it was no longer covered by my pharmacy. My prescription plan of my insurance reached out to Dr. Bell FIVE TIMES WITH ZERO RESPONSE. I even called twice and no reply. I like Dr. Stein but the clinic is just horrible and it's quite clear they don't care about their patients! read more

Came in for a Friday appointment & was told that my appointment was canceled with no warning . But If you are bilingual please do not come here . The receptionist, Henry (bilingual) was the RUDEST person . Not only did he refuse to speak Spanish to my mother but treated my autistic sister wrongly. Took mom into her 8:50 am appt. Arrived at 8:45- After check in, Took 27 minutes to get into a room. Started with one exam with, ? Never said name/title. Moved to exam room and went through some more exams- not with doctor. Went to another waiting area, only to be called for another exam, still not with doctor. Then back to waiting area. Then called and took another room and now it is 10:21 - still waiting! Oh look- 10:30 doctor and assistant in room- I'll get out of here with her soon - prayerfully. Timing. Every time I have gone in for an appointment, it takes over 30 minutes or more just to get called back. Then there is another long wait for dilation. I watch people come in long after me, get called in before me. While the staff and Doctor are nice, the wait is just too long. read more

The VA referred my cataract surgery to Horizon Eye Care and I had anxiety about it; thinking I might be left with only one eye that I could see with for whatever reason. The staff made feel at ease and explained to me exactly what was going to happen, my options, and answered any questions that I had; which allowed me to make an important decision and feel more comfortable with the procedure. The surgical coordinator, Kristi, is an absolute joy and responded to my needs and concerns. She calmed me down on a couple occasions post surgery due to me needlessly worrying about this and that. All normal things associated with that type surgery. I wish I could remember the names of the other assistants to Dr Stein so I could commend them as well. Overall, a pleasant experience. read more

I use to be a patient of Horizon back in 2002 when I was in high school until I went to college in 2004 then from 2009-2021. I just started going back as of April 2024 when my neurologist referred me back. I've had extremely dry eyes as well as brain pressure that all started after coming off a medication too abruptly. Every time this is mentioned to a doctor, they talk over me. I've been told by two doctors at two different Horizon locations that I have Sjogren's disease and he referred me to get tested by my primary doctor because he was sure I had it. In my family, we don't claim illnesses especially if we've never been diagnosed with it. I was tested last week for sjogren's and my results came back negative. Today at the mallard creek location, the doctor I saw wanted to tell me as well that I had sjogren's. I told him no I don't and that I just tested negative for it last week. He said, that doesn't mean you don't have it. I then told him, my dry eyes began exactly two days after I was taken off of my medication in June 2022. He then totally ignores what I just told him and said that still doesn't mean you don't have Sjogren's and it took Serena Williams eight years before she was diagnosed with Sjogren's. I don't walk around claiming I have an illness and I complained to the manager about him as well as the doctor at the other location (not that she'll do anything about) , but that's wrong of them to be pinning an illness on someone when they don't even have and they don't know how a person handles that, that can scare a person. I was told I was coming to this specific appointment today for a procedure and I just got the run around and they ended up diagnosing me with the exact same thing I was diagnosed with back in October and they offered me the same heat treatments I've already done. I couldn't believe these people just wasted my time, my mother's time (I have to rely on my parents to get me places farther than 4 to 5 minutes now because of this eye dryness and pressure on brain. I've been wearing trial pair of contacts since November. Everyone knows you don't wear a trial pair of contacts for 5 months. Horizon won't write me a new prescription because they say contacts will irritate my eyes even more, but have told me there are square lenses that I can wear that won't irritate my eyes, but the doctor has taken it upon himself to let me know I can't afford it, so he only wants me to wear glasses. There's a reason I started wearing contacts when I was only 12 years old. My parents and I decided it would be better for my self confidence. My glasses are extremely thick and I don't go out in public with them on ever. So this whole having to wear glasses in public sets me back and embarrasses me to no end. I'm stuck in a three year old pair of glasses and a 5 month old trial pair of glasses. read more

There is a reason this business has such low ratings. They have the absolute worst customer service I have experienced. The billing department literally hung up on me when I was trying to understand a charge I didn't agree with. She claimed she would not "go back and forth with me any longer and that someone will be in touch. " I was not being rude, just honestly trying to understand the charge. Also, no one ever called me back after I was hung up on. Not only did they bill me the wrong way the first time but I had to wait weeks for them to "review" it only for them to keep sending me different bills with different charges. There is no communication between the billing department and the clinic. I used to work in the eye care industry so I understand how simpe a bill review can be with just some communication. I have no problem with the care we received in the clinic but I will never be returning to this practice due to the complete disrespect and lack of knowledge the billing department has. read more

Do not use this company! I don't like writing negative reviews but I don't want anyone to go through what I just did. We just moved here from ND and I needed an eye exam. I loved the Dr that did my exam, but when I called back to approve the ordering of my new glasses, I was told they didn't have any frames that I left there. Unfortunately, I have left my Ray-Bans with them so they would have them when I was ready to order them. Now, I have my clip on sunglass attachment without my actual glasses to clip them too. The woman I spoke to was very rude and would not look any further. When I told her I was going to leave a negative comment, she told me the conversation was over. So, needless to say, I am not going to order anything from them...EVER! I had to call back to find out how to get a copy of my records. You have to call a general phone number and leave a message for them to call you back so you can ask to be transferred to the actual location you want. Then, when they transfer you to the actual location, you have to leave another message for someone to call you back from there. It sounds to me like these employees are over worked and need help! read more

Growing up, I was accoustomed to coming here. I have had to wait passed my appointment, 40mins to an hour everytime and dealt with moody/sassy receptionists. Not only did I have to wait, but I was also rushed. I did not appreciate the doctor changing my contact prescription without a separate eye exam for contacts, which lowered my prescription level and prevented me from buying the correct contact lenses. I could not see with the new prescription. Thanks a lot. read more

We went there for my daughter's boil on the eyelid last year. They added the charges for vision test as well which was never done on that day we visited. The insurance did not cover that amount, and this year we got a notice from debt collector to pay the vision test amount. We never had such kind of horrible experience anywhere else. I would not recommend anyone at least at this location, since they goof up with the bill. read more

I had an appointment to get my stitches taken out. I didn't have to wait long at all. This location is smaller than most of the horizon locations. Stitches didn't hurt at all. I went on my way and was there in and out in 20 mins. read more

If you make an appointment be prepared to wait at least an hour. They are always behind. They say 'we will be with you in a little bit.' Make sure to ask how long a little bit will be. I have been coming here for at least a year. It's true you have to wait longer than other doctors, but each doctor takes so much time checking your eyes in each possible way that my opinion it's worth the wait. My whole experience today from start to finish took exactly 1 hour and 52 minutes. So be prepared to spend 2 hours on your appointment. Dr James is fantastic. If you have the time to wait, you can trust them wirh your eyes. read more

I was a fan until this morning; a simple phone call really turned me off. I have been a customer for more than six years with Horizon. I go every year like clock work for my annual exam and to purchase new glasses every other year. I called to get my PD and was told it would be $40 just for them to look at my chart and tell me what my PD is. That's ridiculous! Technically it should be noted on the prescription that I have and it's not. I just think it's highway robbery just to look at a chart and tell me what my two digits are...guess I'll be measuring it myself. read more

Today, November 1st 2019 my daughter had an appointment at 3:30pm I was running late due to traffic and driving an hour away. I called let them know I was running late, was told it's okay they have a 15min window. I arrived at 3:43pm to be turned back around stating I had to reschedule. As I was in there I received a call from the office to also tell me the same thing. I have the phone record with time that I was in there.. So I went to Horizon about 3 years ago and had a great experience. I called to make an appointment, expressed which location (Pineville) and we settled on an appointment. I received the reminder call today to tell me that my appointment was in Huntersville, not Pineville. I called back and yes, in fact the location was Huntersville. I was on the phone over 20 minutes trying to get an appointment in Pineville. I finally gave up and I'm calling another provider covered in my Network. read more

I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment. Check in was fine. That was the only good part of my experience. When it was 45 minutes past my appt time, I said I was leaving. At that point, the receptionist asked if I wanted to reschedule or find out how much longer. No, to both of those. I understand appts can run long and things come up. However, you should have the courtesy to let your customers know what's going on. I left work early for nothing. If you value your time at all, please look for a different provider. read more

Have brought my grandmother here several time in the past 2 months before and after an eye surgery. All three times we were brought back fairly quickly, however, once the initial exam was complete we were put in yet another waiting room where we would wait 45+ minutes to finally see the doctor, who spent maybe 5 minutes with us. Bring a book and some snacks to spend your day here when you have an appointment Cotswold location is never like this. Friendly staff and hardly any wait time! I recently moved from Concord to Charlotte. Horizon Eye Care is local to my area so I decided to try them out as a new patient for my annual eye exam. I arrived at 10 am for my scheduled 10:20 am appointment. Check in went fine and I started filling out the new patient paperwork. I completed the paperwork at 10:15 which was 5 minutes before my appointment. I then waited for 25 minutes past my scheduled appointment. At that point I had not been talked to nor told anything. I then went up to the front desk and confirmed that my appointment was for 10:20 am. They told me that they should get to me soon. I asked them to cancel and that I was leaving. I understand that slow downs occur. However, at 10:20 am in the morning if you are running later than 20 minutes behind schedule then you are not operating efficiently. If a patient is waiting 25 minutes after their scheduled appointment with no one telling you anything, you clearly do not value the time of your patients and customers. I never waited more than 10 minutes at my old Vision Practice. It looks like it is worth the drive back to Concord. Thanks for wasting an hour of my busy Monday morning. read more
