I first stopped at the horizon on Fairoaks Boulevard. I've gone there before and enjoy their service. Unfortunately it was closed. I went to the horizon smog on Auburn Boulevard near Greenback. This shop is smaller, but the service was terrific. I'm glad I went to Horizon smog. They also have a coupon for a smog check for about $40 plus another eight or $10 for the smog certificate. It only took about 15 minutes to get the smoke check. I would definitely go back to the horizon smog on Auburn and greenback. read more

I needed a smog check for my upcoming vehicle renewal. I walked into this Horizon Smog location on Auburn Blvd. (There are 2 other locations...Carmichael and Sacramento...addresses online.) There were 3 people ahead of me. The technician was handling everything (check in, smog check, and cashiering). He was professional, knowledgeable and had the best attitude. He kept everything moving and people were in and out in about 20 mins. The small waiting area was bright with the sun shining in all the windows. For a place with only one technician, I was impressed with how organized and efficient the technician ran the shop.) He did a good job of smoging my old 1997 Nissan Altima and the washer wiper worked better than before.I don't know what he did but that hadn't worked for years and now it does. I think besides making an old car pass the smog, I think he fixed that washer wiper thing. read more

I called asking to making an appointment around 10:00am and the gentleman wouldn't schedule me he just said "come whenever" and I told him I had work and couldn't be there till 5:30pm and when I showed up at 5:30pm he stood there shaking his head at me that they were closing. My regular smog shop changed owners and is no longer a star certified smog shop. I looked online and Horizon was close to my house so I hit them up on my way home from work. Showed up around 3pm and there were 2 people ahead of me, but I only had about a 20 minute wait. The technician, Kevin, was polite explaining everything to me, and efficient with the task. 5 Stars Hands Down!! I drove past the location earlier in the day; I called the number and asked what they charged for a Smog Check for my Vehicle Type I was quoted $38. I went to the location later there was only one person working everything, and his name was Rigo. Rigo was performing the smog checks, he was checking people in, he was taking payments! I waited about 30min since there were others ahead of me, but once it was my turn I was done in about 10min. This is the place to go! Very pleasant experience getting my 2010 Explorer smogged today. Got there around 1:30 pm, had only one employee working (Rigo, a very nice, polite, and efficient man!), four customers ahead of me, and a nice cool waiting room to sit in (it was pretty warm outside so that made the wait much better!). Enjoyed chatting with the other customers and when it was my turn, Rigo quickly completed the smog test, gave me a $10 discount (using their online coupon I mentioned upfront to him), and got me on my way! Horizon Smog has a $37 special smog inspection. Plus $10 if you pass but compared to most in the area that want $70-90 dollars. I was pleased I wish they had AC seating but I was in and out before I could complain. Maurice/Mo was friendly and forthcoming with Information and he made the process simple as possible. I came to this location on 3-3-23 which was a Friday. The man let me know that since I had a 1992 Honda that his machine needed to be calibrated ( he mentioned he did not calibrate it as recommended) and to come back tomorrow. I came back the next day and he tested my car. He was having issues with the machine kept getting noticeably upset slamming down the hood even was mentioning to other customers how he was having issues with his machine. Long story short my car failed. I didn't think too much of it until I spoke with my father who said that the car is in good shape and it should pass. I did let my father know how the man mentioned that he needed to calibrate the machine the day before. I ended up taking it a few weeks later to a different smog place and it passed. I feel that the man took my money knowing his machine was not calibrated properly. I decided to go back and ask him for my money back since I did not believe his machine was properly calibrated. He told me to leave. I hope this review will stop people from getting scammed. I called the Horizon in Natomas and was told the machine was not working properly. I'd give these people zero stars if I could. I've been going here since I moved here 8 years ago for all of my vehicles. Brought in my car to get smogged and he charged me $70, despite it not passing. He told me to change the air filter and a couple of other simple suggestions and bring it back and it should pass fine. No problem. I made all of the changes needed, brought the car back the next day. The car actually passed smog, but he refused to pass it because there was a small crack he saw that he said "could" potentially crack all the way through in a few months. I'm hearing this statement, as I look up and see their posted sign stating they are not mechanics and are not allowed to diagnose anything with your car. WTF? You are supposed to be passing cars based on what you see now, not what they might do a few months down the road. He refused to give me a refund. BEWARE- they are completely shady and dishonest! Price: $24.75 + $8.25 = $33.00 Total! Service: The Tech Robert was friendly and even with some small talk and my asking a few questions, the whole process only took about 15 minutes. Also told me that on 2000 and newer cars the the DMV no longer requires them to run the car on the dynamometer or put a sensor in the tailpipe. Now they only need to do a Visual Inspection (quickly eyeballed the gas cap and the entire exhaust system starting at the engine under the hood, then underneath the car all the way to the tailpipe), and a Functional Inspection (hooked the Smog Check Machine to the OBD Connector on the car, typed in some info, ran a printout, and done)! Location: On Auburn Blvd just off Greenback Ln, across the street from Maita Honda. Sort of a dumpy looking little shop all by itself on the Southwest end of Desimone Ln., and there were no complementary food or drinks,... but there is lots of parking, and the office was nice and warm on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon. So, bottom line... Low price, fast friendly service, and convenient location!!! read more

This is always my first choice in smog check destinations. This is a smog only STAR facility so no matter what the DMV throws at me, they can handle it here. Prices are pretty standard here but when I bring in 2 cars at a time they give me a good deal. I havnt had a car fail here yet but they always do over my results with me and let me know how my cars are doing.. I highly reccomend this shop but be prepared to wait.
