I called Horne Heating because of the great service that I had received from them in the past. As a result of the service I received on this call, I will no longer be using them. The service tech lacked the professionalism that previous technicians displayed; he did not replace the panels on my unit before leaving, failed to close the electrical box, and left some white residue all over my recycling cans. They charged me for cleaning off one of my units, and I, in return, had to clean up after them. After using my water hoses to clean my unit, they failed to put it back. Now they use an AI answering service, so you can no longer speak to a person. read more

Requested a quote for a humidifier and to replace our plenum. Quote came...$5,700! Humidifier part is $1,000 and they wanted $2700 to install for a total of $3700. Replace plenum for $2000. I've had 3 other humidifiers installed in houses and none were near this cost. It's a 4 hr job. I thought Morris Jenkins was the only overpriced provider in Charlotte, but now know there is another. $500/hr rates? Sad. As an update, just received a quote from a competitor for both the humidifier and plenum. $2,650. $3k less and close to what I had paid previously. read more

I purchased a gas pack from Horne's HVAC about 4 months ago. I paid more than $3000 less with Horne's than with a leading competitor 14 years earlier. I had a concern with my AC, called and they were out the very next day, I was worried that I was overreacting because there had been heat advisories the past few days. Bryan Hala came out to repair my system. He found that the duct work had become disconnected near the return. He didn't want to leave without it being fixed, but he didn't have what he needed on the truck. Another technician brought him everything he needed to repair the problem. He worked in a 2 foot crawl space in 90+ degree weather for at least an hour or more, dirty from head to toe (luckily had a clean uniform to change into). He said I absolutely did the right thing by calling, even though the day of service the unit kept a temp of 68 degrees that day. Even with a disconnection! My gas furnace was old and in need of replacement. I had four companies quote on a replacement unit, and Horne was the lowest priced. Sam did a really good job with the quote and explaining what all would be done. When the installers, Rene and Wriston, came to my home, they were ready to go! They were both very personable guys and did EXCELLENT work. Whenever I had a question, they answered everything. Being an older unit, they had to do quite a bit of configuring to work around the existing ductwork and venting. They took it in stride and knocked out the work. I take no pleasure in sharing a negative review, but I honestly feel an obligation to do so. This is a longer review, so here goes. The prior owners of the home used this service, and Horne installed the current HVAC units in the house. So we decided to give them a try for HVAC routine maintenance service. We had HVAC maintenance visits in the past; the first resulted in $800 in charges (with much more work recommended), and the second was $1,700. The concern was that the initial problem persisted and the top floor AC was still struggling to keep up in summer. Regardless, we called them in a third time, and third time is (apparently not) the charm. They came out and first suggested that our air cleaning unit was broken and needed replacement. The technician quoted a price, did the work that day (and stayed a long time and was pleasant), and then presented the bill, which was more than 10% over the quoted price. Ok, shame on me for paying this at all. Two days later they sent a Comfort Specialist to discuss other projects that they recommended, which included replacing a downstairs heating system and an upstairs AC unit. They quoted multiple different jobs/options (replace one but not the other, replace both, different levels of upgrades, replace everything, etc.). And this is where the integrity for me problems started to appear. First, we received six written quotes ranging from about $12,000 to about $30,000. One quote was precisely $16,000, but all the others were also precise to the dollar (e.g., $12,748.00). Yet NONE OF THE QUOTES had any detail whatsoever regarding the cost breakdown for parts, labor, inspection costs, etc. That practice, to me, is a really bad sign. If your quote is precise to the dollar, the cost breakdown should be clear and easy to understand. Strike 1. Second, they indicated that one of our older AC units was using older refrigerant (ok, fine), and said that they would have to charge $600/pound to add more to it, and that we were several pounds short. The problem, as we learned later, was that day was much too cold to properly test the level of Freon. We called someone else in and they said they could add the same replacement Freon for $125/pound, but they said they do not even test the AC system unless it is warmer (this was in February). Regardless, one company can do it for $125/pound but Horne wanted 5 times that amount?! And on one of the earlier calls, they quoted prices of about $500 to replace certain capacitors or coils that were easily found online for less than $100. Hmmm... Strike 2. Third, when we called in another company, they said some power wires were left unattached in the AC unit outside. They both seemed highly interested (suspicious) regarding how that would even be possible after a service call. They, of course, reattached the wires for us. Strike 3. Fourth, Horne indicated that we had low levels of carbon dioxide detected in the downstairs/crawlspace unit. The second company detected none, but used some tape to patch some very small duct holes that might have contributed to a very, very low reading. Let's call this a foul ball... In short, I personally would never use this company again. Assuming some of the issues I raised here were simply misunderstandings, any company that provides 5-figure quotes for work that do not list the specific cost breakdowns for parts, labor and inspection services is not reputable (to me). And charging 5 times what another company charges for Freon is pretty unreasonable. Given the other issues that I experienced, I would encourage future customers to be careful when dealing with this company. read more

I rarely ever write a review, but wanted to alert future customers to my experience. Background: The air handler located in my attic began making an awful sound on a Saturday night. I turned off the unit that served the upper floor, and because it wasn't oppressively hot, decided we could wait until Monday to solve the issue. The Good: After calling mid-morning on Monday, Horne was able to send out a technician by 5 pm. (Partially bad -- they said they would be there closer to 2 and did not arrive until 5). The technician was able to quickly diagnose the issue -- the motor had come loose in the air handler and needed to be strapped down. My understanding is that no parts were needed to solve the issue. The technician was very friendly and was able to fix the issue within about 45 minutes. The Bad: I was charged over $500 for a fix that took about 45 minutes and required no parts. With tax it came to over $550. By that point, I felt that I had little choice but to pay it. Either pay their $90 diagnostic fee and likely wait one more day for a different company to solve the issue, or bite the bullet and get ripped off. Like a lot of HVAC companies, they have you in a tough spot once the technician is in your home and quotes you an obscene fee. The technician said the pricing was out of his hands. In short, call Horne if you need someone who will come quickly and get the job done, but also plan to be ripped off on price. Based on the prior reviews, I should have known better. read more

This company went way beyond great, my experience was exceptional. Horne replaced my heat pump. From the first meeting with Forrest, the sales person who was friendly but professional and honest with me. He didn't try to sell me a system that I didn't need, he didn't try to tell me everything that was wrong with mine, he just explained my options and let me decide. I should mention I had 3 additional estimates besides Horne HVAC. Install day, Colby and Nickk arrived on time. Colby came in and explained everything that was going to happen and apologized for leaving me without heat while they installed new unit. He checked in periodically to inform me of their progress and then came into the house to install the new thermostat and make sure I understood how to set it to my liking. I had price checked before using them for a new HVAC a few years back and they came in the middle pricing against the other five companies I called. I was pleased with how efficient and clean they were in installing the new AC. I use them for my semi-annual maintenance check and it has always been positive. Today was the first day I needed to do something that was a bit pricey and that was taking care of my almost 20 year old furnace. Billy made it look brand new and added additional features that will help not only with performance but with interior air quality. Billy was straightforward and answered my questions. My AC stopped working last Saturday during 90 + degree weather...I called Horne because I couldn't reach my regular repair service, and Horne operates on Saturdays. The good: customer service...the technician was fantastic. He was on time, friendly, fast, and communicative. He diagnosed the problem in about five minutes and had the repair part on the truck. The repair took about twenty minutes and I was up and running when he left. The bad: The invoice was outrageous! Given simplicity of repair, I foolishly failed to ask for an estimate, assuming it would be reasonable. This was my bad...The bill was $483.70! This included $90.00 for diagnostic...I have no problem with that...But also a $361.00 charge for the repair, (replacement of a capacitor - 5 screws, 3 plugs, and done!). As I wrote the check, I assumed this was an expensive part. Imagine my surprise when I later researched the part...it's available on line for about $25.00, (maybe $50-60 retail). So they charged between $250 and $300 for the 30 minutes labor... So, be warned, and be ready to pay too much! read more

Our air conditioning stopped working after 18 years! A service technician recommended a new system rather than putting a new compressor in an old unit, especially comparing pricing for new compressor vs new unit altogether. We chose the new unit. They were able to get the equipment in and schedule the installation earlier than they thought they would. Colby called when he was on his way to my house and he and Nick completed the installation by 2:00. They were very pleasant and thorough. During a service visit, a technician found a pretty large crack in our furnace heat exchanger. They recommended replacing the unit. I agreed since the unit was 20 years old. I then started gathering quotes from several different HVAC companies. I decided to use Horne for the project. During the entire process, from the quote to the final installation, they always communicated well, were always either on time or a few minute early, and did quality work, respecting the cleanliness of the house. Brandon and Andrew (the installation crew) were easy to work with and did a great job. Hugh, the replacement specialist that did the quote, was very thorough and courteous. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because of the annoyingly prominent HORNE HVAC ad printed on the front of the thermostat. This cheapens the look, and can not be removed. During a regular maintenance review of my 20 year old furnace, Jonathan discovered a leak in the heat exchanger. He was able to show me a picture of the leak and reported that the unit was releasing 1 part per million of co2 into the home. I was impressed with Jonathan's knowledge and ability to explain the situation. He documented all his work with photos and a comprehensive check list. The next day Joey came to re-inspect the unit and provide me pricing for the replacement. He offered me a good price. He was also very professional and knowledgeable and demonstrated a good understanding of my situation. Two days later Rene and Wriston came to install the new unit. They arrived early and had the job completed in just a few hours. Again I was impressed with how efficient they were, protective of the floors and walls as they moved the old unit out and the new one in, and added new supports for the furnace and flu pipe. From our first call, their urgency and efficiency combined with their friendliness was from a different era. They didn't drag out the repairs, they attacked the problem with what has to be the best group of technicians in Charlotte. Forrest, Brant, Tyler and Bryan spent a day and half working non stop. They were respectful, friendly, efficient and most importantly - successful. When was the last time you had something done around your house that turned out much better than you expected for much less than you expected? Horne bought Quality Comfort a while back. I always had good customer service from Quality. Horne has not been good. Had a problem last fall, asked for a manager to call me to talk about some issues. No one ever called. Problem again yesterday, had another company look at it and there were problems with the way it was fixed by Horne. I called and was told Tim or Scott would call ASAP. but still no call. Very poor service and workmanship. read more

I used Horne when my furnace stopped working just days before it was supposed to go in the market. They arrived on time, told me I needed a new capacitor, the guy was there for maybe 10 minutes. A week or so later the furnace was already broken again, doing the same thing it was before. I had another company out who recommended putting a new furnace in since the current one was so old and really anything could be wrong with it so don't waste time and money replacing more parts. I'm not confident that Horne looked over the entire furnace to asses the problem since they were in and out so quickly. They also refused to give me any sort of refund (the part they replaced that supposedly "fixed" it was $350). They did offer to take that price off of a new furnace if I decided to use them. Only to find out a new furnace through them was $2000 more than what another company quoted me. Next time I have HVAC issues, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Sometimes you get what you pay for at a really good price! Recently had to replace my heat exchanger in my HVAC. I called several local heating companies for quotes. Horne was the first to return my call with a quote. Some didn't call back at all, so guess they didn't want the business. The repair was completed in half the time everyone had quoted. My repair man was very experienced and knew exactly what needed to be done. I have had no problems since my repair a month ago. Horne also had the best price, out of all the large well known heating companies in the area. I intend to use Horne in the future and would recommend them!
