Both were tasty but Kim chee was on bottom of stone pot so rice did not get crispy. Quantity of beef and chicken in both dishes were very small portions. Finding parking is kind of difficult. I like the ambiance inside. Would I visit this restaurant again? Yes! I adore the waiter/manager for how friendly he was. I liked the sides the most, or maybe just the way they looked. I had dumpling and rice cake soup, but near the end, I found a dead gnat in it. The prices for the soups were somewhat reasonable to me. Loved it. I lived in a predominately Korean neighborhood in Los Angeles for many years. I learned a whole lot very quickly about Korean food...I know what I like, and I know what to look for....the Korean food scene in Los Angeles is incredible. So when I moved to Seattle years ago I was excited to see a bunch of Korean restaurants. One of my favorites in LA was BCD tofu house- and when I moved to Seattle, there was a BCD in Mountlake Terrace. They've since shut down and I was dismayed to see them go. But I'm happy to have found Hosoonyi as I see the quality and menu variety is similar to what I saw in LA- and at BCD. Hosoonyi is tucked away in a pretty non-descript location. My son, who also loves Korean food, saw the Korean writing on a sign as we passed and asked to turn in to the parking lot. SO glad we did...the restaurant was empty- it was just after New Year's day- we both got the kimchi stew with beef. It was really great on a super cold day. We demolished the food and were impressed with the variety of items they brought out. We were served green tea with our meal. This will be our go-to Korean restaurant from here on out. Food was one of the worst Korean I ever had. This place used to be good years ago. I hadn't gone here for a long time and I was very disappointed today. The soondooboo was very watery tasting. Hardly any broth. No egg was provided like in the past. The spicy nangmyeon was bad too. Noodle was pudgy like it had been sitting around for a while. The seafood bits in the pajeon was not fresh. Most of the side dishes did not taste fresh other than the kimchi and dakquang (things that easily last). The potato salad side dish had turned. Service was good but that was because there was hardly any people there for dinner. And, of course, their pay system did not have a 15% tip button. I'm sick of restaurants jacking up the default tip. Makes me want to tip even less. read more

I visited Hosoonyi with a group of 12 and everything was amazing. The food was all top notch and the service was wonderful. They were very attentive and fast, much better than my first visit! This spot is right by the Taco Bell off 84th and S Tacoma Way. But blink, and you'll miss it. This location has a blue roof and the sign has a tiger on it. Parking is kinda slim pickings, esp during a lunch or dinner rush. Right across from Hosoonyi, is T-Town Cafe and they sorta share the parking lot, but not at the same time. Just make sure you're not parking in the hospital that's directly behind these places. Now onto the food. The food is alright, but has been consistent for as long as I can remember. Service can be a hit or miss which is why I wanted to give a 3 star, but the lady with the glasses is dope and so nice, so due to her, giving a 4 star rating. Tbh, if I want their food, I usually place an order online and come pick it up. But if you do order online, just be sure to put the spice level if you order the tofu soup. Or else they make a white tofu soup when I first tried their online system. My go to order is the beef kimchi tofu soup extra spicy. If I have company, then I'll throw in the marinated ribs, galbi and do the combo. They do have lunch specials, so you can check that out Monday thru Friday from 11 am - 2 pm, but not on holidays. The lunch specials vary from soups to marinated meats, and there is 1 fish dish. Came here with a group ($50 pp after tax & tip) and we ordered the following items: The banchans, you are only limited to 5 refills. Hosoonyi has been a reliable Korean dining place for us for years. Never reviewed it because I was just taking it for granted. I prefer a thorough kbbq experience and preferably Ayce! But she is not as crazy about that and if course the smelly hair after. So I have always reverted to this place when I need a simple kbbq meal and banchan with a beer. This time it was very mellow and low in business unusually on a later weeknight and we got quick service. They have a great combo deal that you get to choose a soft tofu soup and an entree and for two it's quite affordable! We usually get a pork soup and spicy pork entree. My wife loves their fried fish but asks for it to be extra crispy. The banchan changes a bit, but usually great and they have a great selection of the typical Korean beverages. This time her fish was perfect and she was happy! Everything else was just standard and reliable like going to a fast food restaurant and getting the exact thing you've always ordered. Still one of our favs for Korea food but outside of that it felt like something had changed and just can't put my finger on it. The portions seemed a bit smaller and the prices have gone up but I get it as the cost of food products continues to go up. Despite all of that the items we chose were still good including the seafood pancake, seafood rice cakes and the dak gangjeong (sweet and spicy chicken). We love their wide selection of banchan! This is peace is tucked away in a small plaza and larger than you expect when you walk inside. They have k pop music playing and tv to watch. The service was overall pleasant. The kalbi ribs were one of the most fragant coming fresh sizzling on the platter. We decided to be adventurous and try the ginseng chicken soup which was unique. It has a subtle ginseng flavor however the soup has all the rice mixed in like a porridge. That took me by surprise because I'm use the to the clear broth soups but I was comforting on a chilly night. The seafood pancake was very crispy and the green onions were crunchy like extra fried on top. I just wish the seafood was a bit more plump to batter ratio. Delicious every day of the week. Seriously, I could eat here every single day of the week and be perfectly happy. Everything is consistently delicious. I've had the bibimbap and the tofu soup, and both are absolutely incredible. The flavors are so authentic and satisfying. If only I had two stomachs, I'd order both every single time - they're that good! Service is also very good. Only downside is, they limit the number of small dish refills to just once, for 5 dishes. It's really a bummer, since each of their side dishes are so amazing. I do wish they increased that limit. If I had only two meals in Edmonds, I would eat at Hosoonyi twice. If I had three meals? I've been coming here for a while now, and it continues to be a solid spot for Korean food. Service is friendly and efficient, and the food overall holds up really well. The mul naengmyeon was refreshing and came with the classic sauces on the side so you can adjust it to your taste. The ban chan selection was good, though I wasn't a fan of being limited to refills on only 5 out of the 12 options, kind of a bummer. We also had the rapokki, which was delicious and definitely a highlight. The galbi and spicy pork were flavorful, though the portions were a bit on the smaller side but we did get them as part of a combo. The budae jjigae had to be the standout dish, cooked right there on the table. Rich, flavorful broth packed with all the goodies: spam, sausage, noodles, and tofu. Oh, and the kimchi was so good we ended up buying some to take home. Prices are a bit on the higher end, but the quality makes it worth it. Comfort Korean food! Our group came starving after a hike, and this place hit the spot! Homey, mom-and-pop-vibe, Hosoonyi offers tofu soup, grilled meats, bibimbap, side dishes, and more! They gave us 8-9 banchan, more than other Korean restaurants I've been to. I got the stone pot bibimbap and it was delicious! Sizzling hot, loaded with toppings, it was what I needed after a long day. My friends also enjoyed their meals also! Service was friendly and welcoming! My friend's soondobu was too spicy for her and they offered to remake it for her, no questions asked. You can tell they take pride in their food and hospitality. This is a very friendly place to go for lunch. The restaurant is clean and well lit. We ordered seafood sundubu jjigae, galbi tang and galbi. The banchan was plentiful. The sundubu and the galbi were tasty, per my wife. I found the galbi tang lacking flavor or seasonings. I was looking for salt and pepper shakers. I understand restaurants increasing their prices due to inflation but when you increase prices, please do NOT decrease the portion size!!! I hate that I now have to pay way more for lot less. Fantastic Korean food, always been a staple for me growing up in Edmonds. Just had a strange experience that's throwing me off though. We came here as a party of 5 when another Korean restaurant had an hour wait. We each ordered an entree that came with side dishes, pretty normal. No combos to share or anything, so it's not like we're trying to take advantage of refills (I've seen this policy elsewhere and it makes sense, refills for certain items per person). Anyway, we were told that we can only refill four items (of 12 banchan). Split among five people too. Not sure how the numbers work out since it's not one per person or anything. Just feels a bit arbitrary and we probably could've gotten personal refills had we sat at individual tables. And if we did so, we probably would've had 5 sets of 12 banchan dishes. Logic didn't make sense to me and I think it's flawed. read more

When it's a Seattle winter day it's only right that you drink some soup to warm you up. We were in the area so we stopped by Hosoonyi for lunch. It's a family-owned restaurant tucked away in a small plaza with a decent amount of parking in the front and the back. Note that they're closed on Tuesdays! We started our meal with a set of 12 different banchan which was more than the typical 8-10 that you might see elsewhere. They have the typical ones like kimchi, bean sprouts, cucumbers, fish cakes (my favorite), and many more. HAEMUL PAA-JEON ($17.99) - their seafood pancake was crispy on one side and softer on the bottom (most likely because of the stuff inside). It was thicker than I'm used to but it tasted like it was deep fried which was different. Other than that, the flavor was pretty standard. 3.5/5 KIM-CHI-SOON-DOO-BOO ($15.99) - we got ours with pork but you have the option to choose beef. There were actually big chunks of pork instead of the ground variety which I liked. There were lots of kimchi flavors and lots of tofu pieces as well. This was my favorite of everything we got. 4.5/5 SPICY BEEF SHORT RIBS ($29.99) - the spicy version was only $1 more than the normal beef short ribs and it was a good choice. The portions were on the smaller side and there was a lot of connective tissue on the ribs with not as much meat. This came as a combo with the tofu soup so perhaps that was the reason why. We were a little disappointed with that because of the price and because the flavor/sauce itself was delicious. 3.5/5 The service was great even during the lunch rush. Our server was the only person running around all the tables while still being mostly prompt and giving us what we needed. My fiancé and I drove to Edmonds for a friends bday and we all wanted Korean food so we decided to go here. As soon as we asked for a table, they told us that next time we should make a reservation. Two people were late but they took our order and served it pretty quickly. The other two people ordered as soon as they got to the restaurant and they got their orders pretty quickly too. Everything was delicious except for the seafood pancake. I've had seafood pancake at several places now so I know what's good and what's not, and the pancake at this place is at the bottom of my list. Actually, it's not even on my list. It was too thick, the middle part was too soggy and they didn't have mouth seafood in it. I couldn't eat more of it because I hated the soggy feeling in my mouth. It's not often I go out for Korean food in Seattle as it's severely lacking in quality but a friend wanted to try some traditional dishes. We stopped by Hosoonyi off Highway 99 in Edmonds, just north of Seattle. Situated in a small strip mall, it's hard to miss with the large sign. Even for Monday dinner, the place was packed with groups waiting to be seated! My friend and I shared a few dishes family style, the only way to have Korean food if you ask me. 1. 해물순두부 / Seafood soondubu or soft tofu stew 2. 오징어볶음 / Spicy stir fried squid 3. 반찬 / Assorted side dishes 4. 돼지불고기 / Korean spicy pork BBQ Overall I thought all the dishes were pretty solid! Well-seasoned, fresh ingredients, and appropriate spice level with generous portions. Unlike other Korean spots in Seattle, I'd say this spot is more reasonably priced as well. Service can be a bit slow at times as it's a family run business but that's part of the charm! This is a 4.5 star review until I come back :) We were craving Korean food and saw this place on yelp so decided to check them out. I was intrigued by the various pictures of the banchans and it definitely made it worthwhile. Foodwise, we ended up getting: Ttebokki with ramen (extra $3) and beef --- 4 stars: the flavor is good, the rice cake was plump and chewy and the beef was tender. I wish they gave more beef as there was only a few slices and it was a large dish. I would think for $23, they would have given more beef as the ttebokki and ramen itself should not be that pricey. Seafood pancake --5 stars: this is probably one of the best seafood pancake I had in a really long time. It was crispy and flavorful and is not oily and there are various seafood in it such as squid and shrimp. It come with a sauce but you can eat it with or without as the sauce is also pretty mild in flavor. Banchan --5 stars: WOW there was 12 dishes of banchan!!!! Everything was fresh and tasty. I think you can ask for refills but we were pretty full to ask any haha Service is a little mixed. I'm pretty sure they are short staff and it gets busy so it's a little slow. My gripe is that I waved the server down to grab our check and he acknowledged it, went to the cashier, got our check and left it there! I had to wave another waiter down after 5 minutes of waiting to grab it for me! Hosoonyi has been an institution in Edmonds for almost twenty years. In that time, it has been through several changes in ownership. At one time, it was ranked among the top Korean restaurants in the Puget Sound area. The present ownership, though it's ten years, has proven their ability to maintain a high standard of quality. The service was excellent -friendly, helpful and attentive. The menu is large with a strong line up of Soondobu. The presentation of the 12 small plates of Ban Chan on a tray was a WOW sight, and they were all delicious - not a dog in the bunch. The L A style Kalbi was very good. The marinade was excellent and was tender enough - I would guess that it was choice rather than prime short rib. The excellent Seafood Soondobu rounded out a very satisfying meal. read more

This is hands down the best hidden gem korean spots in the area! We got the spicy pork belly with tofu and kimchi, kalbi tang (kalbi soup with glass noodles), and Youk Gae U-don (spicy beef brisket soup with udon), and everything was PHENOMENAL! There were so many side dishes (all of them were so good) and the flavors of the entrees were top tier. The employees are so nice and it has a very homey vibe to it. Definitely more of a hole in the wall family business, but 100% worth the visit!! My bf is Korean and he loves it, so it's KOREAN APPROVED! Loved their soups and the variety in their banchan! We arrived on a Sunday night and there was no wait. I ordered the tofu soup + galbi combo and thought both tasted really good! The tofu was super soft and the galbi was tender and flavorful. They came with 9 banchan as well which is the most variety I've seen. Smaller portion sizes for sure and limited refills though, as a heads up. Even though the food was really good, we found that some of the staff was pretty unfriendly so I probably won't come back - would recommend this place mainly for their food, but not necessarily their service. read more

It's quite interesting to come here with my Korean mom compared to coming with a white friend. When I'm with my mom, she does most of the talking and I get to enjoy the yummy food made just as requested and served fresh with chopsticks and without a side of assumption. A couple weeks ago I went with a (white) friend and while the service was still friendly, it was certainly different. The staff second guessed our spice tolerance, raising an eyebrow when we both requested the spiciest level for their soondooboo jjigae, assumed we might not be able to use chopsticks and asked us if we needed forks, and just triggered a lot of internalized pet peeves that I have, apparently. Needless to say, no I did not need a fork, the food wasn't spicy even if it was made to be as spicy as I requested, and for the sake of 2021 I hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else if they visit this restaurant. read more
