One of my favorite Korean restaurants. For me, a Korean restaurant is only as good as their banchan and this place never misses. Each entree is served w/ purple rice, barely tea, and of course (unlimited) banchan. They have plenty of seating, but the place gets busy and noisy quickly. We arrived around 5PM on a Wednesday and there was no wait, but the restaurant began to be busy an hour later. There is compact parking in front of the restaurant, but more spots available to the side of the lot. We ordered: Soft Tofu Stew - I love the kimchi they serve. Their kimchi is a little more spicy and pungent than what other restaurants serve, but that is exactly how it should be. Yukgaejang - A hearty and nourishing soup. Plenty of broth, beef, and leafy vegetables to even take home afterwards (you can see with the depth of the bowl). LA Kalbi & Pork Belly - Generous portions for the price. LA Kalbi was the favorite for the night, but pork bely was also just as good. Served on a hot platter it was nice that the meats remained warm even towards the end of meal. Tteok-Bokki - So so much. Wish there was more cheese added, but that is only because I have a low spice tolerance lol. We had plenty to take home afterwards so it's still a win. You order on a tablet and they bring it out to you as it's ready. Paid at the very end of the meal. We ordered the chicken wings, both original and spicy. We also got the Tteok-Bokki for an appetizer as well. For the entree we all split one of the big plates, the Kalbi Jjim. Everything we ate was delicious. It was my first time trying Tteok-Bokki and now I'm a big fan. The restaurant was busy, but nice inside and accommodating. They even had mouth wash in the bathrooms . I came here with my family on a pretty busy weekend evening but surprisingly got seated very quickly. There were cups of tea upon seating. There's minimal service - you order on a tablet that's mounted at the table. There is no info about if the dish comes with rice or not. You have to flag down the server for more refills on the bonchon if you want refills. Tea was refilled only once during the whole dinner service. I got the seafood pancake, beef bulgogi, grilled mackerel, and LA galbi. This was plenty of food for four of us. The mackerel was a big fish and had a crispy but moist interior, the bulgogi was a big portion and marinated very well, and the seafood pancake was crispy and came with a dipping sauce. The star of the show was LA Galbi, which was SO tender and marinated so well. This is probably the best LA Galbi I've had so far in Washington. However, the LA Galbi took forever to come out to the table. We kept asking the server if it was coming as we saw other tables getting their orders and we were making a good dent into our other dishes. They kept reassuring us that it was coming. We had finally finished eating all of our other food and were purely waiting for the LA Galbi. The server asked us if we were done with the meal and we told them, again, that we were waiting for the Galbi. They finally checked with the kitchen and told us they had missed our order but can give it to us in 10 mins. Fine, we waited and got refills on bonchon. It finally came out shortly after. When the check came, the server didn't offer us any sort of compensation despite the hiccup. It's one thing if we hadn't said anything about it until the end, but we were repeatedly asking them where our dish was and they were blindly telling us it was coming. Honestly one of the biggest tteokbokki appetizers I've ever been served. Definitely go for the version with cheese. It usually comes with glass noodles sitting at the bottom, which adds a really nice texture and makes the dish feel even more satisfying. Had been hearing about it for sometime and finally got to go, the hype was real for me! I took my friend here for her birthday brunch last month on a Sunday. We met there right after the restaurant opened at 11am and were able to get a table easily. You order from a tablet at your table. The place is pretty roomy and spacious. There were K-pop videos playing on a large screen. We ordered the Japchae to start which are glass noodles with vegetables and beef. It was tasty but I got only one small piece of beef. For $17, I expected more. I ordered the Grilled Mackerel that comes with Banchan (assorted appetizers/little sides) and rice. It was fried perfectly. Definitely a winning dish. It was a large fish so I took some home. I got to revisit Modoo this past weekend and I was reminded just how good the food was here. It is definitely the best Korean restaurant in the area. The place is always packed with people for a reason and I love that it feels like a neighborhood gem. They have an electronic ordering system for each table, so you can just place your order right when you sit down. I got to try the Jjusami with cheese fried rice, mixed soondubu, galbitang, and seafood pancake which was plenty of food to feed 4. The jjusami was so flavorful and pairs perfectly with rice. It's $50, but is definitely meant to be shared between at least 3 people. Their seafood pancake is so perfectly crispy. I'd definitely get it everytime I come back. They also give out free barely tea, and the service is attentive enough to refill it throughout the meal. This is one of my go to spots when I am craving Korean food. The service is always top-notch. The ambience is not as bright but has a bunch of tables and it's very spacious. They recently added a tablet to each table so that the customers can place their own orders through the app. The app, itself is a bit confusing if you have never used it before at Modoo. Once you placed your order through the app, a waiter will come and bring the Banchans and drinks, etc. I love the banchans that they provide here. It all tastes fresh and made in house. We ordered appetizers to start. We ordered the seafood pancake, vegetable pancake, and one order of fried dumplings. All the appetizers came out hot and crispy. I would highly recommend these pancakes to share with the table. For entrées, we opted out to ordering our own. I ordered the sondobu tofu soup with beef (mild) and short ribs to share. I have heard of Modoo in Lynnwood for a long time. It is one of the OG Korean places that are frequented by Koreans and East Asians alike. Arriving at about 7:30, I learned the hard way that there is always a wait -- so hungry... They are sooooo popular. Luckily, staying in the waiting area and not giving up helped. Other parties on the waitlist did not return, so the wait reduced from an estimate of 45 min to an hour down to 30 min. Quite reasonable. On the day I went, I heard more Mandarin and Cantonese than Korean spoken in the restaurant. Towards the back, they have a semi-private area to handle a large party. Food is ordered via a tablet. Service and food were swift once we had a table. They refilled water and banchan expeditiously. The server team worked very well collaborating across tables. I was plenty impressed watching their dynamic and gave positive feedback to the manager. Other than the table and the ordering tablet being a bit sticky, it was an excellent meal with fair prices and good service. The Food: LA Kalbi, $32 - 5 Stars This is hubby's favorite Korean meat dish. Theirs is served sizzling on a hot platter. The pieces are meaty and generous for the price. He was hungry and polished off all the food. Chicken Wings, 6 pc, $10 - 4.5 Stars I wasn't planning to order wings, but when I saw they are charging $10 for six pieces. I was like - sign me up! Their "spicy" is the typical yangnyeom flavor - sweet and spicy. Excellent wings and well flavored. Seafood Pancake, $22 - 4.5 Stars Their version is a little uglier than others, not quite rounded. I rather like the imperfect look to show it was hand made to order. I also prefer extra crispy and brown toasty edges. Theirs fit the bill. Packed with scallions, squid, and shrimps, and more, this was a satisfying haemul pajeon. Soft Tofu Stew with Seafood, $17 - 4 Stars Soft pillowy tofu and plenty of seafood are delivered simmering, bubbling in broth. My odd complaint - there wasn't that much tofu in this bowl. With so much broth and plenty of other food ordered, I took most of this home and made two more meals by adding soft tofu. Still a winner. Banchan, $0, refillable - 5 Stars For the true Korean food eaters, banchan makes or breaks a meal. Side dishes are the unspoken queen of the meal offering varying flavors to complement the hot bubbling soups or sizzling meats. They offer six varieties - spinach, radish, potato salad, kimchi, fish cakes, and acorn jelly (a rare offering in restaurants but common in households). They were all well prepared and delicious. Was this delicious? Absolutely. Was it pricey? Also yes. Speed and service? Great. We ordered the Kalbi jjim which was $75, and added on the cheese & rice (+$6) as well. It was accompanied by a variety of side dishes. The quality of the food was amazing. The kalbi meat fell off the bone. The sauce was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy, loaded with a number of veggies like sweet potato, squash, mushrooms, and some ddeokboki. For the price, I'll admit I assumed the portion size would be double. But the quality is undisputed. After finishing the meat and veggies, they use the sauce to stir in the rice and top it with cheese. The cheese + rice was 100% worth the add on. My only (small) gripe is that I wish the side dishes were delivered before the main dish so we could enjoy them while we waited. We arrived on Friday night around 7:30pm. Our table was ready by around 8pm with 2 steaming cups of corn silk tea and a sippy cup of water for our baby. We ordered on the tablet ordering system on the table, and food arrived at 8:20pm. When I asked why the Kalbi jjim was so expensive, they shared that the dish uses an expensive cut of meat and is originally a "fancy" dish in Korea. They only have tables for 4, so it isn't any faster of a wait even if you have a small party. I've been wanting to try this place since FOREVER and finally got the chance to do so on a Saturday for lunch. When we arrived, we were 7th on the waitlist and ultimately ended up waiting around 30 minutes or so before getting seated at our table. Keep in mind they close the waitlist early to make sure they can close for lunch in time. We ordered the jjusami (pork belly and octopus), fried chicken (spicy and original), tteokkbokki with ramen, and bossam to split amongst 5 people. This ended up being so much food but we were able to take some leftovers home. All of it was absolutely fantastic and delicious - my favorite dish was definitely the jjusami as the sauce was so savory sweet and the pork was so yummy. There were also plenty of veggies in it too! The bossam was my next favorite, as the pork was so tender and juicy and the cabbage wrap was fantastic with all the additions. The tteokkbokki was exactly as expected, and the chicken was just decent too. I liked the spicy one, but not the original as much. I'd definitely recommend the jjusami and bossam if you come here!
