**Update** I don't agree with the owner response, as I walked across the street and the craft cocktails were less money and easily double the pour. This is not my first venture drinking around town and I know what others offer and pour sizes. I stand by "stingy" pours. And furthermore, the tiny small plate of food is not enough to share, that is why two of us ordered 6 plates and dessert and were still hungry. I could have went to several other upscale restaurants and spent the same money and left with a doggie bag. Cool build out, poor execution of menu and pricing, will keep me and my peers from returning. Plese don't fool people into thinking the food is "family style" or shareable for 2-3, it is "small plates" or "tapas style" and skimpy at that. I am not sure how to explain it. The decor and build out made you feel like you were in a trendy location and forget you are in Utica, that is the best part. The drinks were VERY pricey for such stingy pours, they did taste good, but the price prevented me from having more (I am not a cheapskate). Now the food, yikes, the server portrayed it as family style. I think of Frankenmuth passing plates of food. But oh no, not here. They do not offer a full meal. Instead, just a handful of very SMALL plates, not enough for one, much less pass around and share. The two of us ordered 6 items and dessert and were still hungry. If you're familiar with the East Side, and the old "Hatchy's" Sports Bar, you'll be blown away by the transformation of this space, the new Host Utica. A complete overhaul into a lovely modern venue with beautiful greenery and gold accents. HOWEVER, that's where the fun stopped. Had terrible bar service--it took 3 tries to make a classic martini. And at that, it was the most watered down we'd ever had. The bartender even came to the table to clarify what we wanted and they still got them wrong. The craft cocktails were also very weak and unimpressive. Ordered two different bottles of wine of which they were both out of. The "substitute" bottle was an Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio that they charged $40 for (it's a $10 bottle). The antipasto salad was excellent with sliced jalapenos and a delicious sharp cacio e Pepe dressing. Their specialty garlic bread was tasty but burned. Gnocchi, pasta, and Tuna dishes were very good but all small sharable portions so plan on ordering several. They just had just started their pizza oven service last night, and they looked very good. Our group's first time! We went when Mark Camaj was hosting Chef and we were so impressed! We tried 5 items on menu and everyone of them presented beautifully and curated. My personal favorites were Beef Ricotta meatball over polenta and Caprese Salad with Persimmon (outstanding). The decor is gorgeous, light, bright, cozy. Can't wait for the pizza to be available. The ambiance and vibe of this place is AMAZING. Love the decor and everything is clean and so cozy. This was my first time here and I know they have a rotating menu but I wasn't the biggest fan of their brunch menu. The French Toast was honestly the worst french toast I've ever had, just weird combination of flavors and too "eggy", but the Brussels Sprout Hash had GREAT flavor and texture. I was a little confused about why the brussel sprouts were $16 as it wasn't much of a hash and was just a brussel sprout appetizer with an undercooked egg on top. I think it should have been $7-$10 MAX for what you are given. I spent $30 with tip on an appetizer type and a coffee and it was a little too much for me. That said, I do intend on coming back and trying their dinner menu and also trying new rotating brunch options. I often give places multiple chances and I'd love to come back and give it another try. One thing I appreciated is that they weren't blasting music and it was really nice to be able to hear the person I was eating with talk throughout our brunch. The kitchen in the back had some rap blasting, but I love rap so I didn't mind, I loved it, but I could see how some other guests might get annoyed or offended. read more

Went there with the wife tonight. To say this place is overrated is an understatement. I don't see how this place has such high rated reviews, they must pay for them? I ordered the "grandmas chicken" and the wife got the lamb shank. We could have switched the meals and not told the difference on what was what, bland and subpar at best. This place is very misleading with its ambiance, they make you think you're eating at the Ritz Carlton but the food is more like Berkley Coney (see my review for that gem). If you want a real lamb shank at an actual place where the food is edible and you will leave satisfied and full, go to Pegasus in Greektown, you won't be let down. read more

Came here for brunch with a friend this weekend and had a great experience. We both ordered the espresso martini flight and the scrambled egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on a biscuit with potatoes for our meal. The food was amazing - the potatoes were super crispy and flavorful. The espresso martinis were made really well. The chocolate one was my favorite. Our waitress checked on us every 15 mins or so. We lost track of time and ended up talking for about 2 hours so they asked if we could move seats by the window since they had a reservation coming in. I was pleasantly surprised by the Mediterranean Cod dish I ordered. It was well prepared, perfectly spiced with Zatar (something I didn't expect). The potatoes and tomatoes below shared Green olive accompaniment with parsley, light olive oil and some other flavorings. It was really great! The waitress was good too, kinda hippy-esque and fun. She kept asking my thoughts on stuff and picked up that I'm a foodie after asking about the Zatar spice. I'd venture that many might not know what that is first hand. read more

Came here with my boyfriend (really fiance) for his birthday on a Saturday night with reservations at 7pm. It was our first time, and we are so glad we came to try this gem out. We were seated after a few minutes in a booth next to the kitchen. Our server Violet was so sweet, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the restaurant and menu. The restaurant rotates chefs every three months. The chef-of-rotation curates his own menu, and drinks are on rotation as well to compliment the food. It's such a great idea to try new flavors by different chefs! It is recommended to make reservations because it is busy! If you do come in as a walk-in, you could be seated at the var, pizza counter, or window. We asked about drink recommendations and ordered the ghost protocol (lemon flavor) and Helly R. (Orange flavor). The food comes out whenever it is finished, and we were okay with it. We ordered the winter caprese salad to start, truffle pizza, and end with the Galamad, which was a squid ink pasta. Wow! The ingredients were simple, but the flavor and texture of the selected foods were amazing. We highly recommend coming here for fun and great food! I tried this today and was highly impressed. First walking in I noticed the cute decorating. It was modern yet cozy. I got the spicy chicken and devoured it. I was sad it was gone. I could have gotten another one. My sister got a Cajun grit and shrimp bowl. I wanted that dish too. She also got the burger and that was tasty too. I know the dishes switch which makes it all the more exciting to try those. I think the burger and chicken may stay on the menu. I've only seen the brunch menu. They were firing up the wood grill for pizzas for the dinner menu. I imagine that menu would be just as good. Can't wait to go back. read more

Again, the food was good (loved the peach cobbler French toast especially!) & the barista knows what they're doing - thank you for a well crafted cortado. The waitress was lovely, we became friends ! Went for lunch today at 12:30pm. Ordered the Caesar salad and schnitzel, mom had butter and fries. The waitress didn't bring the salad out before our lunch, and the wait was a solid 30 minutes before the food came out and the restaurant was not busy. I saw our salad sitting for 15 minutes on the shelf and she never came by or brought it before the main meal like most restaurants do. It was obvious she forgot to bring the salad out. It also had too much dressing on it. A staff member tried to play it off that I should've told them I wanted the salad brought out before my meal. Why would my mom want to eat a salad with her burger and fries? Anyhow, the schnitzel was a generous size but tasted very gamey and was hard to cut-I needed a steak knife. The pierogis were over cooked. The burger was excellent and fries were tasty. The place is clean and ambiance is very relaxing. I was so excited to check this place, as I am in that area a lot, but I am so disappointed. We had reservation for my birthday, we were there on time, got seated, but nobody came to check on us for 25 min. When I called out to the girl that seated us, and asked if we're going to be served, her first response was "We're understaffed", and turned away. They were not understaffed, we were just ignored. If understaffing was the case, It would've been fine if we were at least acknowledged, we would've understood. What got us the most, they seated 2 tables after us, both of the tables got water and received the attention as normal. So coming at us with the understaffed excuse was just not very professional. Maybe your staff should take notes from the businesses next and across of you. Hope it gets better and good luck! read more

Went for dinner on a Saturday night. Ambiance was cute, more of a coffee shop vibe than a dinner place. Very loud atmosphere and was hard to hear people at the table. Service was great and many people came to check on the table. Food was not nearly as good as we were hoping it was going to be. I'm excited to have this restaurant right in our own backyard. But, regardless, if it were further away, it's worth the trip! The Host atmosphere has a calming vibe and I'm absolutely obsessed with the decor. I've eaten brunch at Host two times and found the waitstaff to be friendly and knowledgeable. It was my first time here and learned that the menu changes every few months. This restaurant has different chefs every few months so each person can showcase their recipes (really unique idea). Food was phenomenal. We ordered the Cajun Beef Sausage Hash 3.6/5 $16, Cajun Crawfish Benedict 4/5 (would've been 5/5 but the eggs were overcooked) $18, Lox Toast 4/5 $18, Banana Upside Down French Toast (please get this if it's still on the menu, I don't like too much sweetness and this was perfect) 5/5 $14. The service was standard and the ambiance was impeccable. I loved everything about this place from the looks, decor, easy menu (also liked the size of the menu. The perfect size and doesn't take up table space). There are hooks underneath the tables & bar area if you need a place for your bags. Two different bar areas. Women's bathroom has two stalls both clean, not sure about the men's though! Thank you to the owner + manager for not limiting dress code and looks for their employees!
