Host is a truly remarkable place to be. The atmosphere is inviting and pleasant to be in. The entire staff is attentive and intent on making sure you have a wonderful experience. The bar staff is creative with their cocktails and extremely knowledgeable about their craft. The concept of rotating chefs may not be for everyone, but I can say that each and every chef they have had in residence turns out delicious, inventive dishes that are exciting to try and sample. Wow I so wanted to give this place 5 stars from all the Tik Tok and Instagram videos I've seen. Made reservations on a Sunday for 12:00 and the place was packed. Reservations allow your party an hour and 15 minutes. The place is loud which is not a big deal and the decor is super cool. The host was friendly and we only had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Our sever did not come right away and we ordered coffees and Bloody Mary's and it took forever to get our drinks and we had to track him down and ask (I think he forgot). The menu is small and for 3 pieces of bacon you will spend $5.00 and it's not that great. If you are interested in eggs and bacon it's considered al a carte. Came in for the last day of the January chefs menu before it switched. Walked in through velvet curtains to help block the cold from coming in, love that! Above the bar and the back wall of the restaurant have amazing art installs! The aesthetic here is so beautiful! We had a reservation for 10 which is also opening. We were quickly sat and brought water then a few more tables trickled in. Time went by a bit and a server asked if anyone waited on us yet then said " no one had sections yet because they just opened " and wandered off. Someone finally came to get our drink order my husband had a Bloody Mary, I tried to order I believe it was a brown sugar bourbon drink and they were out of the brown sugar mix so I opted for a americano. I know drinks can be messy sometimes but this Bloody Mary made the biggest mess and tasted kinda off. We had both ordered the crawfish Benedict. Our server had touched base at one point because she also sensed our food was taking too long. By 10:45 we finally got our food, again not a full restaurant and food was coming out staggered to tables from what I had seen. Maybe someone called off idk? I was very disappointed to have Benedict with a fully cooked egg and my husbands was the same. The crawfish was seasoned well and not fishy but very dry, and the small dab of bland hollandaise wasn't enough to save it with the dry egg to go with it. I didn't see a point in asking for a remake, something seemed off and I just wanted to eat what I could and leave not worth the fuss. Just disappointed in spending $55 before tip and still being hungry. First off- Kendall G was an absolutely amazing & knowledge server, we loved her! Went with a group of 7 and ordered at least one of everything on the menu (with the exception of the Orata, they were out but we got the skater fish). Everything was great, lots of flavor, the gnocchi, tuna, and the skater fish were by far our favorite dishes. Would have loved to see other dessert options. The gelato was so tasty, not a huge fennel fan and think that the gelato would have been better without it. We really did not like the zabaglione. I had some friends in from out of town and we stopped in for brunch. We like the vibe we like the food so we decided to book a dinner. And let me tell you if you haven't tried this place while Chef Mark is there run don't walk.... I couldn't decide what to get so I asked the table if they were willing to get a bunch of dishes and just share them and even the pickiest eater amongst us was not disappointed. Do yourself a favor and start with the garlic bread & caprese. You won't regret it ! I've never had persimmons on caprese and it was a perfect addition with that aged balsamic it was phenomenal, dip your bread in the dressing for some extra goodness. Next was the tuna crudo, It had so much flavor more of a unique mix of flavors that just worked! My friend said she would come back for that alone, and would get two of them as her main meal. Gnocchi was delish, and a great comfort food for the chilly night. We got the lemon spaghetti, which was a fun vibrant flavor, pasta was perfectly cooked. Next was the whole orate fish, which was very fresh, it was a mild fish that just fell off the main bone, and again perfectly cooked.... We are actually planning to visit again to get the same chef experience. We had two gals, helping us our server and another one that both had the same name that I forgot but they were amazing as well very helpful and if they didn't know the answer, they got the answer quickly. This was my first time dining at Host and it definitely won't be the last. Service was great from the time we entered until we walked out of the door. The restaurant lighting is low and appropriate for the setting. There are walls with what looks like living plants and some with words. The restaurant isn't overly decorated in one style so any cuisine would fit with it. Everything on Chef Steven Kling's Blue Collar French menu sounded delicious so I couldn't wait to celebrate my special day at Host. Every time I have dined in the owner has been there in the thick of it, greeting guests, clearing tables and ensuring everyone's experience was impeccable. On top of the date night quality food, drinks and space the owner shared with us that their goal is to drive small business investment throughout the community both with new restaurant establishments and various small businesses that will be members in the co-work space on the second floor of their building. We have been anxiously awaiting the opening of this new addition to the area since we heard something was finally coming to the empty Danny J's. We frequent this area often and it's nice to have some options. We were in downtown Utica for a beer festival at Jimmy John's and decided to check it out. It was on slam! We looked over the menu but we're really just in the mood for a drink, so that's what we did. The staff was very attentive. We ordered are drinks and asked questions of the bartenders. The pizza oven is still not working. They think there are some additional repairs needed. That's a bummer because that's one thing a lot of people are looking forward to. They are also busy renovating the upstairs, which is exciting. The menu was vast and full of variety. I do look forward to coming back and enjoying a great meal. I think this is the perfect addition down here. We have a dive bar, a winery, a tap room, a burger bar, casual dining, and now a great restaurant with cocktails! Whoop whoop!! The hostess was a delight. we had to wait a few minutes to be seated and she frequently kept us updated as to when we should be seated. She definitely cares about her customers. The food was too notch - scallops melted in your mouth and the burger was the perfect messy dinner. This was our second time here. Our first for brunch. I really appreciated the coffee menu which included milk alternatives. I enjoyed a latte with oat milk. It was perfect. My hubby ordered corned beef hash and said it was the best he's ever had. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the fresh peppers and other veggies were a nice addition. I had the Mediterranean scramble. It was soooo good! I loved the nicely wilted spinach. Many places over do this and the spinach and the flavor is non-existent. Here, it was lovely. As well as the blistered tomatoes that burst in your mouth as you bit into them. The garlicky Tzatziki sauce was the perfect compliment on top. Wish we had a better exp here for our double bday "celebration." Res made 1 mo ago after finding this place on IG--drove 1+ hr in cold/snow from other side of town. Called ahead to say we were running late. Girl said all good, brunch til 3, kitchen closes 2:45. Got there at 1:55, place was mostly empty. Young guy w/curly hair at host stand was rude from the start--said they were closing early for private event (which we weren't told on the phone). He claimed we were late & didn't know abt our res, even tho we called ahead. Asked chef if we could stay--he said yes (appreciated, but should've been told sooner). Felt awkward having to "ask" to stay for a res we made a mo in advance. I quietly told my bf maybe we shouldn't stay if food would be rushed--host overheard & got offended. From then on he was rude, short, and unwelcoming. We were seated anyway but saw others being let in after us, which was odd. Ordered coffee w/cold foam--they forgot foam & had to fix it. Coffee was bitter, had to ask for syrup twice. Samoa pancakes were good. Fries were tasty but not well-done as requested. Bfast quesadilla was bland, no sauces listed on menu--had to ask awkwardly. Server seemed confused. Sausage was v oily. Potatoes were good. Food overall was mid--not worth price or drive. Worst part: zero bday acknowledgment even tho it was noted on res. Not a single "happy bday," no card/dessert/gesture--nothing. Felt like we were being rushed out. Only nice ppl were the lady who brought food & the man who fixed my coffee (owner maybe). Sadly, the rude host was also our server. I tried to be friendly/apologized (tho he never did), but he stayed bratty & cold. Didn't refill waters, acted like requests were a burden.
