Standard tourist food with so so service. The couvert was basically a bunch of fried food - fried olive, fried zucchini, fried artichoke and bread. Pastas were good, albeit a bit too oily. It was hot and busy when we visited and the waiters, who spoke just a little English, were running around trying to serve too many tables. The house wine was cheap and quite good. I hosted a dear friend in Rome for dinner but allowed him to select the restaurant. I'm so glad I did! The food and service are superb with moderate pricing for the quality of the food. The antipasto included green olives stuffed with goodies, then lightly battered and deep fried. A symphony of flavors exploding inside your mouth. Oh my gosh! For the main course I ordered rigatoni in a sauce of minced Italian sausage and black truffles. The aroma of the truffles arrived at the table before the plate arrived. While all of the other places had gimmicks and people trying to reel you in - this place obviously had a following = it now included me;). We ordered veal saltimbocca, veal scallopinni, and fettuccine porcini. Average dish ran $15-20euro. There were so many wonderful things that I'd like to try next time including the Russian artichokes, fresh mozzarella. This entire area has a unique history and the restaurant is located under the remains of the historic Pompeo Theatre circa 61 bc- so cool and no you're not in a wine cellar. The house wine was great and reasonable at $15euro/ bottle. One thing Italians don't do is stick it to you on the vino! Save room for dessert , bc there are some great options. The tiramisu was ok, but not my favorite , but the special apple chocolate pie torta. To wrap things up - they give you these signature biscotti style donuts that are amazing ! Amazing! Make sure to call ahead of time as they're usually packed. I recommend the Jewish style artichokes (one per person because they're fairly small), fettuccini porcini, and green risotto. Dessert wasn't great but absolutely not awful. House wine is very very sweet (not my taste but some may like it). First off, eat inside if you eat here. It's in this amazing cellar/stone room that is just too cool for words. This place is a MUST visit in Rome (along with Roscioli). We had two servers while we ate here and both were amazing. They were cracking jokes the whole time and had very strong (and correct) opinions on menu options. If you asked them to pick between two things they wouldn't give a wishy washy "everything is great" answer. We came here when porcini mushrooms were in season and between 5 of us we ordered 3 plates of them. I have never eaten mushrooms like this! They were meaty and crispy and buttery and salty and oh my goodness. We ordered the jewish style artichokes and wound up getting a second plate as well because they were just so good! Everyone's pasta course was a knockout, as were the main fish courses. The desserts were also a standout. I got a cherry tart with an almond crust that was incredibly unique and delicious, as well as a mousse that left the bowl completely scraped clean. I HIGHLY recommend this place. read more

Amazing meal. Wife had linguini carbonara, she loved it. Focassia was also just right. I had grilled calamari which was amazing. Soft, simple with just enough crispy browning. We also had sautéed spinach which was perfect. Seriously. We followed that up with tiramisu and the "comp"ed fried donuts (all washed down with a nice Masi Amarone. Excelente and we are tough judges! I will dream about the fettuccine with porcini mushrooms for a long time. But the NORCINA PASTA is heaven. I would eat it off of the floor of a NYC subway with my bare hands. This is one of the coolest restaurants in Rome. It's set in the ruins where Julius Caesar was stabbed to death. It's like dining in a cave! Food was amazing and reasonable priced. The filet was tender and flavorful. The pasta with black truffles and sausage was mouth watering. The house wine is only ok. The prosecco was the best I've had in Rome and only €4 per glass. The food is good. The pasta had a marinara sauce that is slightly spicy and a nice change from the norm. The thin slices beef with arugula was nice as well. A little salty but it makes it all the more authentic. The place gets very busy at 7:30pm. All was going great until we realized that our $10 euro pasta was actually €70 because of the poorly handwritten menu. It was listed next to the other pastas only €10-15, and wasn't any better than the others. We didn't expect to get any discount, but we did expect the owner/manager to at least understand our frustration, which he did not in the slightest. Food was good, but just be sure to clarify the price of what you are ordering or else you could get screwed like we did. read more

It was my first night in Rome and I was starving early so I went to Costanza when they had just opened and, so anxious was I to enjoy the late summer evening, I chose to sit outdoors rather than inside. The interior space is far more interesting (and level) than their outdoor area. For a first course I had the crepes with wild mushrooms and truffles which really were very delicious. I followed with the grilled calamari which was okay but I would choose otherwise next time. I saw the carcioffi a la judea on the menu and ordered one but realize that by late September they should have been out of season and I don't think I got a fresh one. Service was good. House wine was affordable and crisp (I had white). Did not have dessert. With all the great options, in this city of food, I probably would not return in favor of visiting other locations again. read more

An absolute skip. The translation on the menu is completely inaccurate, the wait staff is friendly, really nothing over the top or special when it comes to service, and apart from it being a two min walk from my hotel a complete waste of time. It was the first meal in Italy that I actually couldn't be bothered to finish. My girlfriend's rissoto was unevenly cooked an raw in some places. Our grilled veggies appetizer was actually fried an a grease bomb, and my dish had a tomato sauce that tasted like hunts from the can. Really underwhelming altogether and a total skip. read more

Friends told us about Costanza so we decided to walk here after visiting the Coloseum and boy was it worth it! Definitely eat inside - the restaurant is the basement of an old theater and there is a rumor that Julius Ceaser was killed very close by. Aside from the decor and legend of the location, the food was amazing. We had delicious zucchini flowers, a fried artichoke that was amazing and 2 delicious pasta dishes. Then we had an apple pie with chocolate for desert. Everything was so good and the staff was amazing. We decided to walk the 2 miles back to our hotel after such a decadent lunch, but every calorie was worth it! read more

There was some sort of disagreement between the waiter and his boss, and we got caught in the middle. Setting aside our first impression, the food was excellent. My favorite restaurant when I was in Rome. In fact I still think of it. It gets five stars because of the atmosphere. The service was great and friendly. The food was good but being in a cave like atmosphere was so romantic and intimate. Thought about going to the same restaurant twice on a trip but didn't because we felt like we had to try other restaurants. Regretting that decision now. Had the melon and prosciutto to start, a shrimp artichoke pasta. The pasta was the perfect texture, hand rolled capunti, which I loved. The shrimp was super small but that was not the star of the show. The other dish I like was a frito mistro of different seafood, the shrimp were decent side, and there was a variety of different fish that I couldn't recognize other than smelt. We were too full for dessert but they gave some some cookies which were okay. The entire dining experience though was great. read more
