They have the most rudest associate. Waiting in line four customers ahead us me when a lady walks in and I thought she was just looking at what selection she was going to make . The rude one said can I help who's next and the lady who cut in line steps up , I say excuse me I was next and she ignored me then a nice young lady came over to help. I pointed out that I was next and then the rude one there is plenty of us to help you and that I was rude and I could have been nice. When I stated from now on I will take my business else where she said good get out. She never is nice when I go in there and she never gets my order correct. I never say anything because it is busy but today she was way out of line . She should have told the customer that cut sorry there is a line and they have been waiting there were people behind me as well. I enjoy the bagels and bagel sandwiches served hot here. The atmosphere is kind of "hole-in-the-wall-ish", but service is pretty quick and you can sit at one of five or six tables in the shop. Not fancy ambiance, but very tasty bagels. Thanks. read more

Terrible place hands down! Didn't even get served before an elderly gentleman lashed out at me saying "he's been waiting for over an hour to get served and I'm going first". As I backed up and understood his frustration, the workers behind the counter looked at him and I like we were from Mars. I will never go back to Hot Bagels Abroad. A young man next to me ordered three bagels toasted with cream cheese. The older lady forgot to toast them and he politely said something. The woman dramatically throws the bagels into the garbage and says, "F@ck this kid." I heard it and I am sure the boy did as well. After she unceremoniously hands him the bagels he asks for a bag. The lady questions him as to why he wants it. He tells her in case he does not eat all the food. Begrudgingly, she hands him the bag. The boy sits at the table and starts eating. Not a single thing that kid did was rude but the woman says to her coworker that she was close to kicking the boy out. I should have said something or at least cancelled my order. I have never witnessed such unprofessional behavior. She was an adult and he was just a kid. Unacceptable. read more

Unfortunately, although the food is decent, HBA isn't following any social distancing guidelines or CDC regulations regarding open containers of food. We watched this basket of bagels sit on the counter with no lid or barrier for at least30 minutes. People stood over it, talked over it, passed money over it, and even touched the bagels... and then the bagels were sold to customers. Even without a pandemic, this would be pretty gross. read more

Just got an order to go. I ordered a toasted onion bagel with nova lox, cream cheese, tomato and red onion. I got a plain bagel not toasted with nova lox cream cheese, lettuce and tomato. My husband ordered a pastrami Reuben in a toasted rye bagel with mustard. He got a pastrami sandwich on a toasted rye bagel no mustard. This is very poor. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday morning for two breakfast sandwiches. Taylor ham egg and cheese on an everything bagel and a Bacon egg and cheese on a roll. The place was packed but to our surprise the wait time was less than five minutes. Unfortunately, this was the worst breakfast sandwich we've had in a long time. $7 per sandwich with one piece of meat does not sound fair. We tried to eat them in the car as soon as we got them but found out everything was cold and under done. Unfortunately we ended having to cook it ourselves at home. First 2 times I just left it be, because I felt bad they were getting such bad feedback from people publicly on Facebook (even though I could eat it because it had cheese on it) but this morning I called and the girl who answered literally just said she isn't a high enough level to do anything to fix it. Haven't been there in a while because there is much better in town. Wound up going in a hurry in passing. I had asked for a plain bagel with a side of cream cheese. Walking out I checked the bag and the woman put a bagel with Cream Cheese on it in the bag. I brought this to her attention and she took it back. She handed me another bag and I walked out assuming it was fine then. It turns out that she gave me an egg bagel with a side of cream cheese and then my daughter showed me the bagel had hairs on it. What did I get? Plain bagel, a chunk of cheddar cheese that wasn't melted and the worst part....a slice of deli turkey! That's right, NOT TURKEY SAUSAGE but a slab of deli turkey breast. I agree with the other posts - there are many young people working there who are not experienced, as a result the service is absolutely horrible, unorganized, orders are wrong (jalapeno pepper cream cheese instead of scallion cream cheese!), the manger never apologizes for mistakes, instead suggests we phone the order in, the store is a dump. There is a wonderful opportunity in Hackettstown for a bagel store to provide quality bagels, in a clean environment, with friendly and competent service at a fair price. I look forward to the opening of that bagel store soon. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Hot Bagels Abroad for years, but after my visit today it saddens me to say that I will no longer be giving them anymore of my business. I walked into the store this morning only to witness one of their employee's dipping a torn piece of bagel (with glove-less fingers) into a shared workstation container filled with cream cheese. This is the station directly in front of the cashiers - where customer's bagels are cut, toasted, and made to order. I was not sure if she had torn the bagel with her hands or mouth, but nonetheless, she removed her mask to then eat it directly in front of me and other customers, not once but TWO different times. She was basically eating her breakfast as she was working and taking guests orders. We are in the middle of a pandemic and the cleanliness of the establishment should be a crucial step of service in maintaining a healthy work environment for both employee's and customers. If the management is okay with letting customers see this type of unprofessional behavior, I can only imagine what we DON'T see them doing. Do they wash their hands after using a bathroom facility? Do they use masks and gloves when making the bagels and spreads in the morning? Do they follow any health department protocols or is it a free for all? To say the least, I was so disgusted with witnessing this that I felt it necessary to share my experience with the community. I hope the review does something to inspire a change for the sake of other potential customers. read more

Nov 2020 I visited the bagel shop this morning and was horrified with the food handling that had taken place. I witnessed someone come in off the street and walk behind the counter (without washing hands) help themselves to a coffee and bare-handed reach into the bagel basket and got a bagel. Additionally, I watched the counter staff handle food bare-handed as well. I had plenty of time to witness many more improper food handling techniques since we had to wait 30 minutes for bagels to be cooked. I spoke with the owner "Pat" to let him know what was going on and he said absolutely nothing as I told him we would never visit again. I also asked him if he was aware that we are in the middle of a pandemic (COVID-19). He said he knew. I only give them one star because I have to give them something in order to post this review. Without question, the best bagels around. But they cannot seem to get an order right. Weeks on end I have asked for bacon well done. One in eight was right. Last week I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, ham sliced thin. I got a grilled ham and cheese, not thin sliced. The food is tasty, but the Staff, at least on Sundays, does not listen. And only about half of the time do they have the fresh brewed ice tea that is on the menu. read more
