I just walked out of this place because people who came in after me ordered before me. This is the third time this happened. It happens because the business doesn't make it clear where to stand in line - and they don't keep track of the order folks came in. What they do is shout into a disorderly group of waiting people, "who's next!?" Then the crowd has to fight among itself to decide who gets to order. I've participated in this fight several times to claim my rightful spot in the line day, and two other times, I just didn't feel like having a confrontation with other people first thing in the morning so I walked out (and went to Soho grill in the next block). The bagels in this place are good- three stars. Unfortunately, in this day of yelp I wanted to give a one star overall because I just hate the line management situation. My suggestion to the business is to put a sign right in front of the door when you walk in that says "line starts in the back. " read more

okay, so I didn't have the highest of expectations but with 4 star yelp reviews, I was at least expecting tasty things. maybe it was a fluke, and i will go back just in case, BUT my bagel was barely edible. it was not even warm and was... gooey, like doughy, as though it hadn't been cooked all the way through. so it tasted weird and the whole bagel was soft and soggy. sure, the egg & cheese sandwich was only $2.60 but i regretted eating it. i will try once again since this place is right on the way to the train but I definitely was not pleased. read more

I love this place. They make their bagels fresh every day, and continue throughout the day as well. The staff is insanely friendly, and will insist that you don't get your bagel toasted if it is fresh out of the oven (they're right by the way, although I do like it toasted when I get cream cheese). On that note, the cream cheese is made fresh and is totally worth it. Everything there is crazy cheap. I may have moved out of Kensington to Manhattan, but I've returned a couple of times just for the bagels. read more

This place is very close to home and I have been there many times! The bagels taste great , I like the everything, sesame and pumpernickel (sometimes in short supply). Also the muffins are fresh and tasty. The freshly sliced salmon is good quality. read more

I work in the neighborhood and decided to stop by for a rainbow bagel with strawberry cream cheese. The bagel was really good - a spectacularly colored bagel of the plain flavor variety - and the cream cheese was good, too, but I feel like I can't get a really good handle on how good their bagels are until I try my go-to order (lox and cream cheese on an everything bagel). The staff was super friendly and I love that the place has been in the neighborhood pretty much forever. I'll be coming by again to try out their other bagels! read more

This is a great friendly staff reliable neighborhood bagel place. This place if you order the same thing regularly - they see you see I got you, and they get it ready and you just have to pay when it is your turn on line that is pretty cool at least in my book it is that they know their customers, and they care that much. Bagels are usually always really fresh and hot made right on site, and they have a great little deli section that will make your sandwich any way that you want it. The grocery area is tiny but if you need something in a pinch, it is great that is there. The staff as I said tries to always be courteous and quick. For a neighborhood bagel place with great prices that are not too expensive, this a little neighborhood gem in Brooklyn. read more

I used to stop here every morning on my way to the office, but that had to stop. I like everything about them except that they do not clean their coffee urns enough. If the thing is full and fresh the coffee is fine. If it sit there too long though it gets a REAL nasty flavor to it. Bagels here are ok. Not great, especially by Brooklyn standards. But the service here is absolutely atrocious. Staff routinely ignores people who have been waiting, and skip over people in line to take the orders of people who have come in after. When told that people have been waiting, they develop an even worse attitude with customers. Additionally, they seem to have very few organizational systems that would allow them to serve their customers quickly, accurately and efficiently. They consistently fill orders wrong, have to ask two or three times to get the orders right, and mix up bags and give them to the wrong people. Save yourself the trouble and take the trip to Park Slope for a better experience. read more

I really like this place. Their bagels are good, the cream cheeses are good. The iced coffee they have cups of ice ready to go in the freezer and it's good. They have lots of other necessities you can buy, but I've only had the coffee and bagels -- but I give it two enthusiastic thumbs up. Plus, the owner now knows me and my partner, and had us taste test a new flavor of cream cheese because he knows what we like -- that's pretty impressive and shows he cares about his customers. And, the inside is cute, never too crowded, and location is excellent. I can eat a bagel there or on the way to the train or food shopping. a coin toss really, as far as who rocks the kensington bagel biz. the bagels are a little bit bigger here and cost just a tiny bit more than their down the road competition...but these guys are zippy when it comes to getting you in and out. the bagel selection is a bit better here too. it's not easy to find a good egg or pumpernickel bagel around anymore. read more

I stopped going to this bagel store when I noticed roaches on my frequent stops for a bagel pre renovations a few years ago. I haven't been since that time but recently thought to try again now that the place looks aesthetically clean. First thing I've noticed is there is no letter grade or a sign stating grade pending. This was strange considering renovations have been completed for quite a long time. The first man behind the counter seemed like he didn't understand my simple order, but the second man understood and took my order. The third man (who might be in charge) kept staring at me which really annoyed me. I asked for lightly toasted and I received fully toasted, the kind that scrapes the roof of your mouth. Another thing that really irked me, the guy who took my order didn't have ANY GLOVES on. He prepared my bagel with his bare hands. Gloves should ALWAYS be worn when preparing the public's food!! Finally, the taste test, the taste wasn't up to par. First, the bagel itself wasn't very fresh and was far too salty for an everything bagel. The cream cheese's consistency was that of sour cream and not cream cheese. When I took one bite, all the cream cheese oozed out from the bagel. There was too much liquid in the cream cheese which makes me wonder if there were other ingredients added. The cream cheese itself didn't have that Philadelphia cream cheese taste, rather tasted like a cheaper alternative and was on the bland side. Finally the price, $2.50 for a lackluster bagel is too much. Overall, not impressed, and definitely will pass on this establishment. read more
