Meeting the hot dog lady in Echo Park was certainly an experience. After a night of raucous partying, visiting the lady in her tiny, nondescript cart was like a gift from the gods. Her late night bacon wrapped hot dogs were unbelievably delicious and reminded me of an incredible moment in my life back in the 1980s. I had been on a party bender in Tijuana with my buddy Ned and was feeling a little weary. On my way back to the hotel, I heard a voice and saw a sign advertising a hot dog lady's delicious dogs. I decided to give it a try, and the first bite of that heavenly bacon wrapped hot dog completely changed my life and saved me from my weary state! The flavors were out of this world and are something I will never forget. Tasting the hot dog lady's late night bacon wrapped hot dogs in Echo Park brought me back to that moment decades ago. They were just as succulent and flavorful as I remembered, and I was glad to experience the same feelings of joie de vivre that I felt back then. You can get a vegan dog among these. A pretty typical looking cart. It's got the hot dogs and condiments along with chatty employees. The hot dogs look typical. It's about $5 for one vegan hot dog. That's kind of a lot. Of course these are better than many around here. The sides include chips and fries, the usual kind of stuff. Have some dogs. You see these after concerts, clubs and whatever other late night event you go to. A push cart with a flat metal tray on top cooking up bacon wrapped hot dogs. These are an L.A staple, these are a passed on culture.. These are damn delicious. I've been to the Hot Dog Lady a couple of times and really, how could you mess up these hot dogs? For that matter, how could you turn them down? Given the options of food by the time you're out of the club, you're better off getting one of these. It may feel like your heart is about to explode, but the truth is that it's a lot healthier than anything you'll find at Denny's. Besides that, it has bacon in it.. What is there not to love? As for this Bacon slinger, she's great at what she does. the dogs I've had here, while I haven't eaten a terrible bacon wrapped dog, but these are among the best. You do this long enough and you get really good at it. I've cooked them up once or twice and I have to give much respect to this gal for being able to balance it out enough to cook them well enough without blistering the dog too much as well as make the bacon toasty.. Located right in front of United Oil in the ever so growing gentrified city otherwise known as Echo Park, the hot dog lady not only serves hot dogs, but the tastiest pupusas and empanadas I have ever ate! That is no lie! So cheap in price($1 empanadas, $2 pupusas). Almost unbelievable. Yes, she also does sell sodas and water to pair your food with. Yes, coming at night, you will run into the inebriated folks that frequent the bars nearby. I have came here numerous times whenever I am around the area frequenting such places as Short Stop, The Gold Room, Das Bunker and such. It does get cold around here at night but that is the least of your worries once you try their pupusas, empanadas, or hot dogs which might I add, are bacon wrapped. Mmmmm! Before I close this review, I must shout out the hot dog lady because she is just too sweet! Your go to place for your after hours debauchery in Echo Park. Do not knock it until you try it! We found the hot dog lady a few steps outside Short Stop (there's another two carts nearer to Little Joy) and the non-vegetarians (me and Erica) just had to have one. One of the women who cook outside the echoplex has vegetarian hotdogs. I thought I wasn't hearing her correctly, but sure enough she pulled out some veggie dogs. Which at 2 in the morning after a night of insane dancing and drinking was exactly what a girl like me needed. We weren't sure if there would be hot dog vendors around 9pm since most come out after the clubs start emptying out around 12...but luckily I found her on here. Drove straight to her, conveniently located in front of a gas station. She was so sweet and every time I go, we always have good conversation. Hot dogs are big and wrapped with crispy bacon for $3 and you can add on grilled onions, bell peppers, and chiles along with the typical hot dog condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayo and relish. Such a nice lady! I found her on yelp, looking for dirty dogs around the area. I went to get a dirty dog from her on a regular night, sober. And it still tasted DELICIOUS. It tasted very... I'm not sure if "authentic" would be a good word, but it tasted like how a dirty dog should taste. There are some dirty dog carts outside of clubs after the club ends, such as Belasco, and those hot dogs do NOT taste that great. They taste like a fake dirty dog.
