After a long night of dancing to 80s tunes (yes, I am cool like that), I needed food. I participated in an argument while walking to the car that involved names thrown around like Pink's, In-N-Out, Burger King and McDonald's. That is when I saw the Hot Dog Cart.... sizzling and popping and looking like the best food on God's green earth... Then the guy told me it was $5. "$5?! WTF?!" I yelled in dismay. Just then, a lady came running up behind him pushing her own hot dog cart yelling "$3! $3!" "That's right," I said. "Give me 2." The moral of the story is: That lady is lucky she showed up when she did with the lower price because I probably would have caved and given $5 to that other guy just because I was so hungry. You see them with carts all around town-- not in a cart filled with hot water like in Chicago, but on a cart that's basically a griddle with crispy bacon wrapped around beef hot dogs with grilled onions and peppers, jalapenos, and the works. Now, I don't know if this is the hot dog lady I've gone to this week,but they're all sort of the same. I have a couple favorites (see: Echo Park, outside of the Music Box, and outside of the Wiltern), but since you can't really tell where they're from, I guess this is just a comprehensive review of them all. Tips: Cash only, pick the hot dog that looks a little more well done than the others, pile on the toppings, and devour in the wee hours of the night when you're stumbling out of concerts or bars. LA Dog, Street Dog, Alley Dog - whatever you call it, this is the best hot dog in LA. They are everywhere after clubs, you can pretty much drive along Hollywood Blvd or any street with a night club/bar and there's a cart outside. Prices vary depending on vendor though, it's any where from $3-5 these days. If you're not a night owl though, you can these LA street dogs just about every block in LA's fashion district, they also come with pico de gallo salsa & avocados down there!! I've yet to see that trend migrate to Hollywood. Also, there is ALWAYS one on Melrose Ave. Everyday. She is my go to when I need a street dog fix! read more

I think this IS the BEST in LA. This lady makes these dog with a lot of love and at only 3 bucks a piece you cant go wrong. Its not just your regular Bacon dog. You can make how every you want but I get my Bacon Dog with Ketchup, Mustard, Mayo, Grilled Onion and this Pico de Gallo (sometimes she'll have diced avocado in it) with hot pepper. I remember eating this a long time ago, the cart looks so familiar as a kid. I remember it being outside the Staples Center somewhere outside the parking lot after the Lakers lost to the Pistons in 2004 in an away game. After the sad lost, we picked up some hot dogs.
