I loved this place when I lived in the Berkshires. So cheap and so good! Probably awful for your diet, but whatever. Good food for cheap is never a bad thing. The chicken wings are my favourite and the hot dogs are brilliant. Honestly, can't tell the difference between Teo's and these, both are good. Only advantage HDR has is they have wings. Today I decided to get the hot dog ranch for dinner ! I called in 3 hot dogs with mustard onions and sauce and a Caesar salad . I get home it took me a few minutes to settle in and start eating I'm unwrapping my hot dogs to see no sauce or onions ! So I call and explain to them that I'm missing condiments so they tell me to come back and get new hotdogs ! So I'm at the hot dog ranch I have my new hot dogs and I go out to my car to check to make sure they are right before we drive away ! Well they weren't ! Ketchup mustard and sauce is what I received I went back inside and the young women threw them away and made me a new set of hotdogs she even slipped me an extra one . I'm in my car and I'm checking to make sure everything's right there's no mustard!!! So I drive away and I'm contemplating on calling back so I call back and they offer me new hot dogs again , and at this point I'm not even disappointed I'm disgusted ! We ask to speak to a manager and they told us to come back to the hot dog ranch , we are at the hot dog ranch and the manager comes out and says " who has the problem " so I slightly raise my hand to tell him that we have the " problem " he then says well first if we made the hot dogs we made them right ! Wow ! Your a manager and this is how you speak to your customers! So my mom then explains that they didn't make them right and this is our 3rd time at the hot dog ranch in 2hrs he then ask what was supposed to be on the hot dogs I explain it to him and he offers me another set of hot dogs I decline his offer and then ask for my money back because why would I take another set of hot dogs for them to be messed up again ! I highly don't RECOMMEND the hot dog ranch , horrible service and a HORRIBLE manager! read more

It's the hot dog ranch, the dogs are good, the drinks are big and it's all fairly inexpensive. I haven't tried any of the more expensive food items... usually just there for drinks and a bite with friends or a quick meal with the kids. Clean and friendly service, when it's busy it's slammed, but tables free up fairly quickly. read more

Must do in P'field. I used to lunch there in the 60's when I worked nearby. Fifty cent hotdogs then with skins on boiled in water that might have been cuvee' Housatonic. Recent visit to new location was a WOW in my book. Much nicer interior, much larger menu with specials, and fast to-go service. And the dogs have more flavor than in the old days. Nice job. First time trying these mini dogs and they were quite tasty. I tried a pair of the Kielbasa dogs w/kraut and a pair of the standard dogs with the sauce and mustard, all with the steamed buns. The tater tots were fried up perfectly. read more

1st time at the new location ,decor is nice, friendly inviting atmosphere ,menu has large selection. But I went for the tried-and-true dogs with everything on them. In comparing hot dog ranch to teos, its cross town rival, one needs a very developed wiener palate like me. The wiener here is a bit stiffer than those in teos, but as I always say, a wiener can never be too stiff! This Asian's wiener belongs to hot dog ranch! read more

Ordered a garden salad with chicken and Caesar dressing and a clam chowder to go... Garden salad wasn't very good, chicken was very small cubes of bagged chicken and the lettuce wasn't fresh and was bagged as well. Dressing wasn't great but not terrible. The clam chowder was delicious, however! I really enjoyed it. I've gotten macaroni and cheese bites in the past, they're also really good. Overall 3/5, the food that I've tried isn't bad but it isn't great either. read more

if you are not a local yokle or one of the 'good ole boys' from town then you are not welcome at The Hot Dog Ranch. I breeze in to town every few months on business and to see old friends. I go at 11am when it's not crowded, find a table and set up my laptop to work on my reports and such. The servers roll their eyes at me as soon as I walk in the door as if to say, "oh know, here comes the guy with the laptop, again." On a recent visit i was asked THREE times to move because "they would need the table for the lunch crowd." One big guy told me I would have to move and I tried to make a deal with him and he said, "you're going to make a deal with me?" And I told him yes if he would let me finish. I told him if I saw it was getting busy I would move to a smaller table. He seemed okay with that and a little while later it got busy so I moved. When I checked out with my server "Christine", she asked me why I had moved, I told her "the big guy said I had to because you guys needed the table." She told me I hadn't needed to move and I told her every time I walked into the place, they make me feel like an alien. The servers never smile, at least not at me. When they great someone local that they know it's all melodic tones to their voice and smiles but when I walk in, it's like I'm a bug. I know the locals all sit at the bar and buy beer after beer after beer so they make a lot of money on each chair. I order lunch and a diet soda and sit and try to watch a Red Sox game and I still order $20 or so worth of food. But even the locals nurse and sip their beer for an hour before ordering another one so they don't REALLY make that much more. But they think they do. I travel a lot and do this same thing at Hooters, Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebees and other places and I have NEVER been asked to give up a table or had servers roll their eyes at me. And no matter how polite and nice I try to be I still get made to feel like a bug. The food is good though, if you have time to eat it before being told to give up your table. read more

About a block off the main drag, near Dottie's and The Lantern. It is a fairly small sports bar. Hot dogs were ok, they tasted microwaved. Fries and chicken sandwich were excellent. Booths hold 6 people. Good customer service. Fed 6 people a light lunch for $40, which is certainly less than most places. read more

Their hotdogs with everything (mustard, chili, onions) and cheesy tots are amazing. However they really need to start accepting cards (last time I went there to pick up my order I was told they do cash only and had to use the ATM inside the restaurant, which was convenient yet not convenient at all at the same time!) and they should update their booths. They are old, torn, and overall uncomfortable. I prefer to just order and pick up my food in the front for this reason. read more

I had heard about two of Pittsfield's legendary hot dog establishments, Teo's and the Hot Dog Ranch, but had never tried either. My fiancé and her mother are natives of Pittsfield and weren't sure which one I should try first, so I thought it would be fun to do a taste testing competition. So for lunch today (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) we ordered take out from both with all the fixings - mustard, onions & sauce (a kind of finely ground spiced meat sauce). Our first stop was the Hot Dog Ranch...if you're doing takeout, use the far left entrance. It was about 1PM and it was moderately busy. Funky place and just what I would have expected for a hot dog joint. Fast friendly service...had our order within 5 minutes. Then it was off to Teo's...similar atmosphere...funky and bustling with holiday weekend lunchtime patrons. Again, fast friendly service...maybe 5 minutes slower than HR. Minor points off for packaging...had to reseal it to make sure it didn't get cold. Then it was back to the house to enjoy our feast. First up was Hot Dog Ranch ($1.25 ea). Yum! Even tho they had been sitting for about 30 minutes, they were delicious...all the fixings had soaked into the buns nicely...double yum. Pabst Blue Ribbon or similar beverage is a MUST. Next was Teo's ($1.30 ea). Delicious dogs here too...again, the sauce soaked buns added to the enjoyment. But the sauce is where all of our group felt something wasn't as good...not bad, but not as good a flavor as HR...slightly sweeter, not as robust. As is the case with any competition, someone always has to come out on top...and in our opinion the clear winner was The Hot Dog Ranch. So, there you have it...our not-so-scientific taste test of two of Pittsfield's finest eateries...try it yourself; we'd like to hear other's opinions. read more

The first time I told my friend from Pittsfield that I went to The Hot Dog Ranch, she couldn't believe that I went down Linden Street by myself! I just think she was jealous I didn't invite her. The mini hot dogs at the Hot Dog Ranch are great. Loaded with meat sauce, onions, and mustard they are nothing unique but perfectly crafted in themselves. I actually crave them time to time. I find an order of 2 or 3 and a side of tator tots accompanied by a draft beer is a great quick lunch that won't break the bank (maybe $20 with tax and tip). The interior of the place is like an old sports bar, with Patriots fan items and pictures of horse racing lining the walls and a few TV's that are on sports channels. I've only gone in for lunch, and the bartenders have always been very nice and personable. I have my boyfriend hooked on the baby hot dogs now, and we like to stop in if we're in the area. They also have a separate entrance for take out if you're in a hurry. With a simple short (10 item) menu and small draft beer selection they must be doing something right if they've been there for so many years! And don't be scared if you've heard bad rumors about the surrounding area. The Hot Dog Ranch has its own parking lot. read more

My dad and I were excited to try the new Hot Dog Ranch. We ordered chicken fingers and hot dogs. It took about 15 minutes for the drinks to come out. I understand it was busy in there, but the wait was ridiculous. We noticed that the tables that came in after us were getting their dinners and we still didn't have our appetizer! The waitress said it would be another 2 minutes. Well, 5 minutes later she brings out the wrong appetizer! We pretty much had it so we told her to just bring our check so we could pay for the drinks. After this, she kept ignoring our table. We had to flag down the manager so we could pay and get out of there. He was nice enough to take care of the drinks for us. I know it wasn't his fault. This is my second visit to the "new" Hot Dog Ranch and both times there were issues with both the service and food. Had same server both times and the first time brought wrong food to table. On our second visit last Friday, my girlfriend and I ordered double hamburgers with fries and onion rings. When the server brought the food we were served double cheeseburgers, not the hamburgers we ordered. She took them back and soon brought us double hamburgers. For being "char-broiled" they were so greasy the deli paper under them was saturastqed with grease and the bottom of the bun was so soaked, could not pickit up and eat it. Had to get a plate and use a knofe zan dfork to eat it. We will never return to this restaurant again. Should of stayed in your old location. Also no Fish Fry for dinner or chicken tenders on menu. Great menu. Service is personable, which I like, and I find other places serving drinks lack the charm, but the hot dogs are what matter to ya, huh? Well Forget the dogs for a second! the cheesey tots, the brocolli bites, just about everything on the menu is a great treat for a game and a pint. The barkeeps are friendly, and the people at the grill are nice enough too. This is the BEST place to get a mini hot dog in my opinion, ever since they revamped the place years and years ago. For a place called the Hot Dog Ranch, I was surprised to see the word Hot Dog only once on the menu. I expected numerous variations of hot dogs to choose from. I elected to get 3 of the baby hot dogs as the come, with mustard meat sauce and onions. The hot dogs tasted great. They reminded me of the hot dogs from Capitol Lunch in Hard Hittin' New Britain.
