I give them Five Stars! I have been craving hot chicken after visiting Prince's Hot Chicken in Nashville. I am very pleased there is now got chicken in Milwaukee and good hot chicken! I have to say I think some people must have delicate teeth because the chicken crust was not rock hard. The crust was dark but that's from the hot mix that is slathered on the crust after frying. Prince's crust was dark also. Prince's is the Original Hot Chicken. The skin had a great crunch to it! If you desire KFC crispy chicken then go to KFC. There is a little sweet to the crust but just enough! The Nashville Hot was perfectly heated! It was hot but you can keep eating it. The chicken meat was juicy and tendor! I brine my chicken also and can tell that this place brines their chicken. With brining you maintain juice and flavor in the meat. Great chicken! I also had the 414 Hot Chicken and I have to say it was hoooooooooot! Sweat, runny nose and watery eyes was unstoppable! I can handle hot anything but this was up there on the hot 'o meter! While it was mouth burning it maintained a very good flavor. Thumbs up guys! Oh and yes I finished my hole piece of 414! I will be back again and again for more! My wife had a avacado melt and she said it was delicious! The mash potatoes had rosemary in it so they were not my wife's cup of tea but I loved them. We ordered a burger to take home and my son said it also was delicious! Our waitress was very attentive and had great customer service. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing. They have a country theme and it is well decorated. Beautiful restaurant! We enjoyed our visit and will be back! I will be sure to bring friends and coworkers! My husband and I were excited to try this chicken after craving Fried chicken at night. I got the 8 piece chicken I asked for the Hot Nashville the sauce was on the side, when I asked for it to be on the chicken. The sauce was cold and extremely oily. Although it did had a nice kick to it. Chicken was burnt on the ends the batter extremely thick, super crunchy. No other word but JAW BREAKING. This used to be a regular for us, but The service has gone down hill fast in the last few months. We've gotten multiple orders missing items and they're always running behind. Our last order we ended up having to wait and extra 30 minutes past the estimated pick up time. I'm loathe to assign such a low rating to a local business but I'm sorry to say that it's warranted. I like Crafty Cow and I had a great experience back when Hot Head was Bumstead Provisions, so I had reasonable expectations for a decent meal. Unfortunately, the food is not very good and quite expensive on top of it, so 2 stars is the best I can do. Their chicken is sold a la carte so you must order the entree and sides separately. I'm normally fine with this set up, but the chicken is hardly worth the price on its own, let alone adding sides to it. The chicken meat is very dry (three words of advice from a home cook: brine your chicken) and the breading so hard you can barely differentiate it from the texture of chicken bone. It was also very salty, and looked mildly burnt. The corn salad had no taste and was a weird mix of cold and lukewarm, despite being billed as a salad. The grits had a great texture, but were very bland. But the worst offender of them all had to be the gouda mac and cheese, which was more of a soup than any mac and cheese I've ever tasted. The noodles were cooked nicely, but swam in a thin, salt-less pool of sauce that tasted only vaguely of gouda. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed, and that feeling only intensified when I realized I had paid $17 (4 piece and 2 sides) for a meal that was only slightly better than if I had gone to Kwik Trip and picked up dinner from their hot bar. Anything good to report? Even though the sides came out before the meal and half of the table got their food first, the service was great. The fried pickles were decent. The decor is quirky and thoughtful, though I would advise you to sit away from the pitchforks if an earlier review of a decoration falling on the head of a patron can be trusted. I finally checked this place out today. We had to go into Crafty Cow to have Hot Head Chicken. I was skeptical because of all the negative reviews but I enjoyed the meal. I had fried chicken and the baked beans. I thought both were very flavorful. They have a happy that starts at 4:30 but the beer was still pretty pricey. Decided to come here on a random Saturday close too noon. I wanted some comfort food so fried chicken was on the brain. I had this place bookmarked for a while and decided to check them out. I was the first customer of the day. I was feeling extra hungry this day and decided to order the Green Tomatoes as an appetizer, which was 4 silces, breaded and deep-fried and served with chipotle aioli. These were excellent. I love green tomatoes and I can definitely say they got it right on this one! Fried to perfection, lots of flavor, not cooked to long, and the chipotle aioli was an excellent compliment Next for the main course I ordered two pieces of the Carolina Gold Chicken which is fried chicken served with tangy gold bbq sauce. This was decent, but over fried to a certain extent. The bbq sauce was pretty good, but the chicken was a little hard not crunchy. Last but not least was the smoked gouda mac n cheese. This was just ok, not horrible though. I was anticipating that it was going to be a little gooey with cheese but it seemed a little watered down. Not bad but not good either. I read the reviews for this place and they were horrible! But I figured I'd judge for myself. I thought how could you really screw up fried chicken. Boy was I wrong in giving them the benefit of the doubt. First off the service was extremely poor, even though the place was practically empty. They had more people working on staff than customers in the restaurant and they still didn't come to refill sodas, ask how our food was, or bring our bill. I wanted all the people who left bad reviews to be wrong but they were right. Everything they served us was cold. The baked beans were hard and undercooked. The Mac and cheese was flavorless. My husband and I went around 7:00 pm which I knew that it was peak time... anyway, we sat at the BAR for TEN MINUTES and the bartender didn't bother bringing us any water whatsoever. We came here for the first time after hearing some pretty good things about their chicken. When it came to the food itself we were not disappointed. The chicken was flavorful and cooked to a perfect crisp. We met with some friends and everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. However, when it came time to get the bill we were left waiting a pretty long time. It was only us and one other table in the restaurant when we asked for our bill. One friend had to be somewhere so went up the front to ask for his portion of the bill to pay and was brought his own bill and left cash and was good to go. However, we were left waiting for our bill for almost an additional 20 minutes as our waitress was sitting behind the bar. While we have no issue waiting and we understand when it's busy it's not the first priority, but we were waiting a pretty long time and the table next to us finished up their food and received their bill before us. She eventually brought us our check after an additional 5 minutes and we left cash and headed out. This unfortunately left us with a rather negative memory of the place, so from now on we would probably order food to go from here since the food was delicious, it was just poor customer service. read more

*Sigh* I SO wanted a great Fried Chicken place to frequent.... We walked in on a Sunday lunch and was surprised to find the place almost empty. Maybe we missed the rush. I really liked the feel of the place. We were greeted by the bartender who told us to sit wherever we liked. Our 1st choice was dirty (no plates just not wiped off and breading on the table) so we went to the next one. We had a seat and were excited to see our favorites on the menu: Okra, mac n cheese, and greens. So of course, as we do a lot, we ordered a buffet of food to try it all. We ordered a "Bird" which was described as 8 pc. That sounds right as a "bird" has 2 breasts, 2 wings, 2 thighs and 2 legs. We also ordered the Okra, both Cheddar and Gouda Mac N Cheese, Bourbon Baked Beans, and greens. The Okra came and it was bland. I mean NO salt and possibly no seasoning at all. Well it came with a sauce so it's ok, just dip it. NOPE- the sauce was awful. I believe it was suppose to be a spicy ranch but tasted more like a cross between a horseradish and ranch....I don't know...it was gross. I called the bartender/waiter over and asked for a refill on my soda. He took it and filled it. Put it down on the bar and proceeded to print a check and bring it to the table next to us. He never brought it back. When our food finally came out, I wasn't scared about the breading looking so dark and thick. Hey, if it falls off, I am fully capable of taking chicken and popping a piece of breading in separate. HOWEVER, as I looked through the pieces, the "Bird" was 8 pieces of wings and thighs ONLY! I only eat chicken breasts and my daughters favorite piece is the leg. So right off the bat we were not happy. I call the girl that brought the food (which wasn't the person who took the order) and asked her where the breasts and legs are. She said that we get whatever the cook gives us (she wasn't rude...she was just letting us know..BY THE WAY- are you in business to make yourself happy and your job easier or please your customers who are paying you for what they want?). I said, well I ordered a "Bird" and I don't know any "Birds" that don't have breasts and legs. She sent the manager (or owner over-he didn't introduce himself). He was very nice and told me that he would bring me breasts and legs out. I then asked him which of the mac n cheese's was the Gouda and which was the Cheddar as they looked the same. He said he'd check with the girl that brought them out (he didn't know either). I then asked if he could bring my soda that was sitting up at the bar for almost 10 minutes now. He went and got it and apologized. The girl came out and let us know which mac was which and shortly after we got the breasts and legs. Ok here it goes... Chicken- SOOOOOOOO much salt that a salt addict would turn away. I mean burn your mouth salt. I could almost taste other seasonings that would have been wonderful if they weren't so overpowered by the salt that they were literally muted. The chicken breasts were so dry that I couldn't even get much meat off of it. I tried to just eat the meat and not the breading but I couldn't get the meat off. Mac n Cheese- They both tasted the same....exactly the same. They tasted...like bland..nothing. We couldn't tell the difference between them and they didn't have seasoning or salt. Maybe they ran out of salt on the chicken? Bourbon Baked Beans- Nasty. They had a dry and gummy consistency and they didn't cook out the alcohol enough so that bitter taste was left. Greens- Were just ok. Nothing special. The ONLY reason that we boxed everything up to take with is that we had $50 of food (yes $50 for ONE chicken, 3 sides, an appetizer and ONE soda-my daughter had water) and we knew of a salt fiend who would put the food to good use. I hated the idea of throwing out all that food when people are hungry. If the disappointing meal wasn't enough....we were the only ones in there when we left and as we looked around...NOBODY was there...including the bartender. There were 3 dirty tables (plates gone but food all over it-never wiped down INCLUDING the original dirty table that we were going to sit at) and nobody to check on us, say goodbye or thank you. Needless to say...we will NEVER be back. Even if they fixed the recipes, the service was lacking, they didn't mind leaving tables dirty for hours and we didn't feel valued as customers. read more

We saw many people who waited even longer and others who left without being served. I will start out by saying the food was good, not great but good. It took forever to get our appetizer which was good (fried pickles). After waiting for 45 minutes we were informed that our ticket was lost and it took another 10 minutes or so. Our sandwiches were on the house because of this. We also ordered sides and more beer, didn't receive our fries and Mac n cheese was given like 5 minutes after our sandwiches. Never got said beer. I really wanted to like this place more. I was at their sister restaurant the week before and thought I would go back and try the chicken. First if all, you need more staff. Two people covering two dining rooms and bars does not cut it. One young lady looked to be near tears at times. They were both trying their best and my issue is not with them. The chicken was terrible. That is an issue with the kitchen staff. All of it was totally over cooked and my largest price was burnt. My partner and I were in the mood for fried chicken, so we went to Hot Head, which we had heard good things about. We got it as take-out, and we both got the traditional-style Southern Fried Chicken. It was definitely moist. But that was about the only good thing we could say about it. It was salty and just tasted odd. My partner commented that it reminded him of lunch meat. The batter was SO think that it resembled a sweet and spicy dish from a Chinese restaurant- except with pickles. I got the goat cheese salad. It was pretty decent with a good mix of beets and cheese. A little over dressed. I should have asked for it on the side. I got a side of the cheddar Mac and cheese. DO NOT GET IT unless you like flavorless overcooked yellow watery noodles. They need to take the feedback from the other reviews and amp it up. Or just get it off the menu. My fiancé had the chicken sandwich. He said he liked it. Decent flavor and crunch but over salted. The service was meh. The waiter was friendly. But they weren't very attentive to us (even when we were the ONLY table there.) I don't eat meat, but my fiancé does. He said he liked the chicken but not enough to go back. He'd rather Grubhub it if anything. I, on the other hand, don't feel the need to go back. Burnt breading, soaked in the brine until heavily salted with the earthy herb notes of licking a McCormick thyme jar.
