Salmon poke bowl
Amy M.

The tomato basil soup warms the soul. The salmon poke salad had good crisp and crunch. And, the service was classy Brookfield. #delish

Just moved to the area and gave North Star a try for lunch. The staff was super friendly but did mention that they don't always have someone at the front so feel free to walk in a little further until someone sees you. We were seated right away as they weren't really busy. The vibes are kinda upscale but we weren't too dressed up and didn't feel out of place at least for lunch. They started us with bread that was delicious and warm with rosemary on top. The butter was soft and possibly even whipped. The burger was very mediocre - it was cooked more than expected for a medium burger, but the sauce and cooked onions were good. The fries were crispy and pretty perfect. My husband got to the pesto chicken pizza that was cooked very well and had the perfect flavor! Much better than my burger honestly. Overall a good experience with average food, I'd definitely be willing to come back to something more formal at dinner and see how that menu is.

Scallop risotto

Cozy upscale yet simple feeling restaurant. Very friendly server and hostess. I got the scallop risotto which was cooked perfectly. Wonderful flavors. We made the mistake of no appetizer so I did leave feeling like I wanted more food. Overall good experience, I will return.

French onion soup

THE BEST FRENCH ONION SOUP of my life, hands down! And great service/ambiance as usual. Every time I fly in from Arizona I have to go to North Star Bistro for the FOS!

fried eggplant & zucchini
Viv P.

A group of gals went for an early lunch. We were treated to a great time. Ambiance is great, server was friendly, and the kitchen was super accommodating. Presentation was beautiful - the pictures came out great with minimal effort! Fried eggplant and zucchini I kept grabbing the zucchini so didn't get to try the eggplant lol. I'll have to reserve opinion on the taste since I'm on keto and I scraped off the breading. Another friend wanted all my breading lol. She said it was delicious! Caramelized gouda burger The kitchen was very accommodating to my keto needs. I went bunless, with the thousand island sauce on the side. I subbed fries with a house salad with ranch on the side. I don't know if this is their usual way, but they really filled the plate up with the side salad. It was almost as big as my friends' salad plates. Thanks! Daily Special - scallop salad The salad came with 3 jumbo scallops atop a bed of romaine lettuce, cucumber, tomato, avocado and bacon. Roasted beet and goat cheese salad with chicken The grilled chicken ($6) on top of the salad was huge and the roasted red and yellow beets were delicious. Otherwise, the salad itself wasn't too special. Grilled chicken club This looked more like a burger than a club sandwich. And tasted like one too! Portion of the fries were also quite huge. Creme Brûlée Not as sweet as other creme brûlées I've had - which is great! I always love a delicious dessert that isn't smothered in sugar. This one was top notch. Flourless chocolate cake personally, not my favorite fare. I guess a chocolate cake needs flour. But I also wasn't loving the raspberry sauce drizzled over it - this was really sweet (unlike the creme brûlée). The raspberry sorbet was great, but the sauce was overpowering. Someone with a sweeter tooth than myself would have loved this. Overall a nice experience!

Haven't been here in years and I'm so glad I stopped in! Same classy place I remember with savory dishes and drinks. Clean and relaxing vibe. Nicely paced experience and not rushed.

We went here super last night. Had the pan fried whitefish and rice. Others had the coconut shrimp. Both were a little over done.

A friend of mine recently moved to Wauwatosa, and I wanted to take her out to lunch on a Thursday…read moresomeplace a little nicer than the normal lunch spot, since we were celebrating her move to her new place. I searched on Yelp and came across Parkside 23. It sounded perfect. When we pulled into the parking lot, it was very crowded. I called in to the restaurant to make sure they'd have room for us, and was told that yes, they had just had a cancellation for a table for two, so come on in. We did, and we were seated almost immediately. From the minute we walked in the restaurant, everything was perfect. Hostess Heidi was lovely, our server Sara was amazing, and the food was incredible. My friend had the meatloaf, and crème brûlée for dessert. She said both were great. She's not a drinker, but did have a couple Shirley Temples, which were perfect. I have the pretzel crusted veal with spaetzel. I asked for them to hold the asparagus, which is usually cut up in the spaetzel along with mushrooms and onions, and they did it perfectly. The veal was especially amazing, and the spaetzel was very good, too. I tried the Mr Manhattan, and had another one as my dessert. I'm always delighted when my usual craft cocktail is one of their classics on the menu. It was well-made, if a bit small for the price point. We've already decided that this will be our go-to place for lunch whenever I travel up from Chicago to visit my friend. I'm also making plans to bring my husband up there sometime, because I think he will love it, too. A great find!

I've always loved the shrimp & grits, the flavor was good, but I didn't realize the grits would be a hard brick of polenta. There were exactly 5 shrimp on the plate, they were not large or jumbo, just 5 little shrimp. The flavor was good. I felt for 28.00 I could have had a few more shrimp. Honestly jumbo or colossal would have been a nicer presentation, with so few shrimp. My husband had the filet sliders, he was not pleased, our son's parkside burger was better. Our server was fantastic, polite, cordial, and attentive . The service is always good. It's close to home that's a plus, the quality of the food is not always in agreement with the price. I'll sit at the bar with a cocktail and an appetizer in the future.

He came to our table and was immediately irate. "I'll take the charge off your bill tonight, but never again. If you don't want to pay it, find another bar!" I never complained loudly or raised my voice so I was shocked by his angry attitude. I explained I had done some research and learned that a service charge is legal when using a CREDIT card, but is NOT when using a DEBIT card. I thought Sluggo's had been a friendly place, but I learned differently tonight. I'm confident I was right, but I realize customers are not always right. However, customers should ALWAYS be treated better and more professionally and graciously than what I experienced.

Well - there was *nothing* to worry about, other than where I was going to put all of the delicious food I was consuming. There was not a single item/chaffer that wen't empty for more than a few minutes. Everything was hot, fresh and well-made. Desserts were plentiful, too. We both have always loved the salad and soup bar there (matter of fact, I'll often just order that for lunch or dinner), and as always, the soups were hot and tasty and the salad bar offerings were fresh, and the area was well maintained and cleaned. There were several choices for both breakfast and lunch entrees; I enjoyed the fried fish and beef burgundy, while my husband said both the fried chicken and the beef (I think it was prime rib) were good, but the beef was on the tough side. The French toast was puffy and moist, but the Belgian waffles were hard and bone dry. The scrambled eggs were rather dense, but the bacon, sausage, and cheesy potatoes were, we agreed, flavorful. The dessert selection was meager, primarily cookies and some bar cookies, and the breakfast pastry selections were rather tasteless and beginning to harden. I'd guess they'd been out for awhile. Our pleasant server was prompt with keeping our beverages topped off and clearing the table. This restaurant, due to its rustic look, is always darker than most restaurants; as this was daytime and our dining air had few windows, brighter lighting would have been nice.
