Jerk chicken, Mac & Cheese, slaw

One of the few places to get legitimate Jamaican cuisine. Line was really long and service was slow on a Saturday around 4pm, so have that in mind when ordering. Other than the long line the food was pretty good. Ordered the jerk chicken, Mac n cheese, goat curry and plantains. The jerk chicken was okay, but the goat curry was delicious! It offered great spice and flavor in the curry and it went well with the plantains and Mac n cheese.

Small oxtail plate with a extra side of Macaroni and cheese.... Only One piece of plantain included if you want more it's extra!! $28.00

Nice lil spot. The food is good. The young lady that served me wasn't friendly at all. She was very selective with her efforts in providing customer service. ‍

Was in the neighborhood & my ex wanted Jamaican food so my brother suggested this restaurant. Warned us that is was a little pricey. Gave it a try. I'm plant-based so I just had the rice & peas with a side of mango coleslaw & two pieces of ripe plantains. The rice was delicious all by itself. Soft & flavorful. The mango slaw was also delicious. Plantains were, well, plantains. My ex had oxtails with rice & peas plantains. He wasn't a fan. Said the oxtail was "old" but the rice & the plantains were good. Overall, it was satisfactory. Not the best but not the worst.

I REALLY wanted to love this place! Jamaican food is scarce in these parts. We do have ONE Jamaican restaurant but if you go there after 5 pm, they are usually out of almost every item on the menu so I don't go often. Anywho, I have been seeing this little new spot in the BK plaza on Pines Blvd and decided I had to stop in. It's rare that you see a Jamaican menu with jerk shrimp and jerk fish. I'm a pescatarian so that's music to my ears. I walked into a very clean restaurant with pleasant people greeting me from behind the counter. I ordered Jerk Shrimp (w/rice & peas, plantain) and a side of the Cole slaw with mango. I paid $13.99 for the meal and another 3 bucks for the slaw. They told me the shrimp is made to order...impressive. I only waited about 6 minutes or so and I was on my way. I had errands but I was hungry so I took a minute to eat in the car. Upon first glance of my meal, honestly, it did not look appealing but that's not a deal breaker. Taste: the jerk shrimp was very light in color and didn't appear grilled or marinated at all. It had a wet look (which I'm not accustomed to when thinking "JERK". It looked more sautéed than grilled and it tasted...well...weird. It had a chemical taste which I realized after a few bites, was ginger. I love ginger but the ginger on this shrimp tasted like it came from a package and not like real ginger. I personally did not like the shrimp. The Rice: I grew up in south Florida but I've been to Jamaica many times and I've had rice so amazing you could eat it just like that with nothing on it. My rice tasted very dry and not very good at all. I didn't get the nice coconut flavor. Maybe it was there but I only tasted hints of what may have been coconut milk but I wasn't sure. The plantain: it just tasted either old or it was the frozen kind. Fresh sweet plantain is unmistakable. I know there are a lot of places that do frozen but in Miami (or south Florida) ...a tropical paradise, fresh is the only way to go. The Coleslaw: is still in my fridge 2 days later. I took 2 bites. It wasn't horrible BUT it tasted like store bought slaw dressing with mango chunks. That's all. I don't like leaving bad reviews and like I said, I wanted to love this place. I have always LOVED Jamaican food but again, it's hard to come by out here. Guess it's back to driving east to get good Jamaican food. This makes me sad. I had hope for this place.

Sad to say that Ruchi Indian Restaurant has permanently closed, but happy to say that a nice Caribbean restaurant has taken its place. The staff was super friendly and food was ready pretty quickly. Order the Hodg Jerk Chicken and the meat was pretty tasty! Came with mushy rice and red bean and steamed cabbage. While the jerk chicken tasted great, the rice and cabbage was ok. Felt like the meal just need a little more sauce. The Portland curry goat was pretty good. Prices are a bit higher than expanded, but hey that's what you call 'inflation'. Definitely will be back for the Oxtail option!

Always down to check out new place for Jamaican food. Saw this place when dropped off my niece to her music session last weekend. I had to order some oxtail which is my go to for Jamaican dish. Nice n clean little place. Oxtail was meaty and tender. The sauce n slightly too salty n a lil lack of spices for my taste.

This is my first time walking in this restaurant and was shocked and disappointed by the appearance of the food service station. There were gravy spills and rice grains everywhere. The food was left uncovered. Not very sanitary. It wasn't that busy so I don't understand why no one tried to clean up. I must say the jerk pork and chicken is very good. Probably the best in the area. But it concerns me the way the food is stored and displayed in front of customers. Clean up and have some pride HOT OF DE GRILL!

She said a few words in patois to the other woman. Next thing I know the other woman started preparing all the sides in a carry out container and then goes to the back for the jerk wings. I didn't leave until 8 o'clock with my order. It wasn't worth the time that I waited. The rice and peas and cabbage were delicious. The wings were dried out, hard and tasted like barbecue chicken instead of jerk wings. I threw them in the trash. Don't even bother putting an order in before cause you're gonna wait anyway. Island Tings in Miramar definitely delivered if you're craving real Caribbean comfort food…read more I ordered the curry chicken and it was exactly what you want from a spot like this. The chicken was tender, well seasoned, and soaked in that rich curry sauce. It came piled over rice with veggies and potatoes mixed in, and the flavors were deep and authentic. You can tell it's the kind of food that's been cooked slow and done right. The portions were solid too definitely a filling meal. Perfect if you're hungry and want something hearty. The restaurant itself has a cool island vibe inside with the beach murals and bright colors that make it feel relaxed and laid-back. The setup is simple cafeteria style, so you move down the line and pick what you want, which keeps things moving. If you're in Miramar and want real Caribbean flavors without the fuss, this spot is worth the stop. Good portions, flavorful food, and a chill atmosphere.
