This is a place when I'm craving for hotpot and very hungry. Everything is very standard here, the broth is good and you only need to pay $1, it's very cheap compared to other hotpot place ($3-$10/broth). Their ingredients are okay, not so fresh but they have a very big selection of meat, vegetables and seafood. The price is also very competitive, so it's about $20/lunch and $30/dinner (tip included). And because it's a buffet so you can order as much as you want until you are full and not worry much about the price. However, don't over order since it's just a waste of food. They also have a BBQ, I never try it so I don't know if it's worth it since I love hotpot more than BBQ. This place also get very crowded during dinner time in the cold days, but you usually don't have to wait too long because they have a lot of seats. However, sometimes the waitress and waiters don't give you enough attention since the place is so busy, just give them sometime. I used to come here pretty often to get my fix of ayce hot pot because of its proximity and huge selection. Lunch hours will have a more limited menu (I think choice ribeye instead of prime), but also comes about $5-6 cheaper. They only offer one sauce here, which can be a deal breaker for some hot pot lovers but I find it somewhat tasty. Typically, service is always a concern for me when I go to any ayce restaurant, but Hot Pot buffet has never failed in that aspect from my experiences. Both the seafood and meat options are amazing, while the vegetables can sometimes be hit or miss in terms of freshness. I've also never waited for a table due to the fact that the restaurant has two floors. The seafood was also good: clams, squid, fluke, octopus, crawfish, fish balls, shrimp dumplings. I went for two rounds of clams and crawfish. We have hot-pot at home 3-4 times year. I like how they have personal pots on the one floor for 1 or 2 people, and family style pots on the second floor. The waiters are quick and you have to catch their eye or just shout at them to get their attention. Just pick one spicy and one not-spicy broth. The rest is up to you, I mean the fixings. There's a assortment of things to choose from: seafood, meat, veges, tofu, etc. The meat is frozen, but who cares, they all melt in the broth. There's all kinds of meat and seafood balls to try. If you're able to eat your body weight in hot pot like I can, then you'll easily get your money's worth at the "buffet" here (I use quotes because it's not really an all you can eat bar, it's an all you can order ingredient menu with a pot of broth--your choice of up to two flavors--on the table). If you have a tiny belly, then you might be better off going somewhere that serves hot pot a la carte. If you do find your way here, I'd recommend the beef items over the other land animals (especially the chicken, which ends up being pretty dry once you cook it), and pretty much any of the seafood items besides the clams (**shiver**). About the food, though it's all you can eat for an OK price, I doubt you would like to order a lot since the qualities and tastes of most food are, emmm, really not enjoyable. The flavors of the dumplings, which I think are bought from supermarkets frozen, can beat almost everything else, and you can get a feeling of how it goes. The BBQ part is also below average, and Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ will put it to shame. Definitely 3rd rate place trying to cash in on the hot pot rage. It's biggest gimmick is the all-you-can-eat buffet style, but even that prospect doesn't make up for middling quality food. Dinner is 21.95/person (with soup being an extra charge!) and only a deal if you can stomach poor quality seafood. Of the seafood items we ordered, most were items we would not order again. The salmon was clearly not fresh (actually had a funk to it, even when cooked through and boiled the hell out of), the white fish was hard and unidentifiable "white fish, and the squid were over-sized pieces with no flavor (but at least no funk!). The only seafood items that were decent were the pre-cooked (read: store bought) fish balls and fish tofu. The meat was ok - we opted for a variety of beef and beef tongue. These were ok, but not particularly flavorful. An order of lamb was so gamey it was barely edible. Most of the vegetable options were fair, but the gai lan (chinese broccoli) tasted like the leafy tips of really old, tough stems -- inedible. Cuts were not really suitable for hot pot (tofu were in giant blocks that didn't lend themselves to the size of the nets they provide; lotus root sliced way too thick), and just seems to demonstrate the lack of care in their food. Servings are completely random and not well defined. One order of veggies would probably serve 1-2, but 2 servings of rice cake noodles means you get about 8 pieces of it (which wouldn't serve 1). Huh?? And 2-3 items of what we selected never even came. Oh and did I mention the weird insect that was sitting in my plate by the noodles? I cannot imagine someone being able to gorge themselves worth of veggies to make out in this deal, and coupled with the indifferent service and overall lack of care or quality to things, I am not tempted to return (even at lower prices). For $20, all you can eat hot pot is definitely a steal! The food was good for the price however the menu is definitely not as extensive as other hot pot places. The layout of the restaurant feel a bit awkward, it's not a comfy/cozy environment, unlike other comparison, such as Shabu-Zen. We had to wait for 15 minutes for a table for two on a Sunday night. The restaurant seemed pretty packed, not knowing they also had a second floor. The hostess asked if we wanted to sit at the bar after offering another party of two, who came in after us for a full table seating on the second floor. It was a bit annoying cause we prefer to sit at the table. Another word, the hostess does not follow the waiting list. Our waitress was by far the worst. After sitting down, she comes up and ask what broth we want (after, we penciled in the items we wanted).. yea no "hi, how are you" no "thank you's". Just rude. Then we had asked if they had smoothies since they don't even have a drink list menu. They did have smoothies, but very limited selection. Also we had to ask for water at least three times, after she served all the other tables water. Overall, the food was good but definitely nothing fancy and not something to "die for". When I first heard that we were going to a hot pot "buffet," all I could think of was that there would be an actual buffet of food sitting out all day that you had to fetch for yourself to put in your hot pot (in other words, "it's bad enough you want me to cook my own food, but now you want me to fetch it and bring it to my table as well??") This is not the case - there is no "buffet" except for the concept of "all you can eat" ingredients for your hot pot. The server brings it to your table from the kitchen and when you are done with round 1, they bring you another menu to order more of whatever you want. I recently went to Hot Pot Buffet on a Sunday night with a group of 7 hungry people. Overall, the price and quality of food was good - seafood was fresh (tasty crab legs), the meat was tasty (we did at least 5 rounds of beef!) and the veggies were crisp and fresh. In 2 hours, we had lamb, beef, scallops, crab, bok choy, spinach, shrimp, chive dumplings, clams, mushrooms and lots of noodles. We did both a spicy pot as well as a mild pot of broth. I had heard a rumor that if you order too much food, they will give you menus that are different and DO NOT have the most expensive items on it for your third or fourth rounds, but that wasn't the case when we were there for dinner. We had at least 4 rounds of food brought to our table for 7 people. The restaurant itself is no frills - - looks like a bingo hall turned hot pot restaurant, with the lighting too bright and the decor too drab. But you are not there for ambiance, you are there to stuff yourself on HOT POT! Overall, I would go back here again, though not anytime soon because I get a little bored with Hot Pot more than once every few months. If you actually boil your food and don't drink tap water, you should not have stomach aches after. The selection is awesome for an all you can eat hot pot buffet. All kinds of seafood, meat, vegetables, etc. I have noticed that putting numbers on the menu have no relevance to the quantity of the food you select. I love hot pot. Hot Pot Buffet has a great selection of meats, veggies, seafood, fish/shrimp balls, etc. They have different kind of broths as well, and you can order 2 kinds for one pot. As for food, make sure to put down more than you normally would because they do give you less of what you actually order. However, you can order as many times as you want and there isn't much wait time in between each other. It was around 16 for lunch and 20 for dinner (pre-tip and tax) when I last went. I've only ever done the AYCE option, but for the price you're not going to find a better hot pot place in Boston. I've been here around six or seven times and each time I bring new people. Despite the less than perfect ambiance, everyone I've brought here has had a great time! Yes, this place is kind of dodgy looking from the outside and the food quality may be a bit questionable considering the quantity they're bringing out, but I've never had any problems after eating here so I guess unless you're a huge germaphobe or really picky with your ingredients this place isn't an issue. Actually, if I had to rate the interior, I would actually say that it is quite clean. The place is two stories with plenty of seating, but if you want to come on a Friday or Saturday, there can be a considerable wait (20ish minutes) if you come during a peak time. Basically what happens when you come in is the waitress seats you, asks you what kind of broth you want, and hands you a sheet with a little pencil so you can tick off what you want. Note, they take the paper away, but you can always ask for another menu (we do this every time and we've never had any bad attitude from any of the staff). It is important to note that while the spicy broth is pretty spicy, it's not going to compare to the stuff you get in China. I have a love hate relationship with this place. also, it's almost always a hit or miss. Selection of food here is great, especially when they remember to give you everything you order the very first time or the second time. Soup options are good. I like the black hen and spicy so i always do half half, depending on the food i am eating. Staff - well, sometimes they come around and refill the soup, and other times, they stand around talking among themselves and you're trying to get their attention so they can either give you a new menu or pick up the one that's been sitting there awhile, or add more broth to the pot. Establishment - Spacious, yes. Lots of elbow room which is great. they will also add extra tables as needed depending on how busy they get. There is a first floor and a second floor and an area that's slightly secluded so you can also have a small party. Bathroom - DISGUSTING!!!!!!!! They really need to clean this place more often. I only visited the female one so can't speak for the male one. IT is gross. They need to check it often, especially during peak hours when people come and go. i have noticed each time i've been here, the bathroom is always the same. Hot Pot Buffet definitely has my favorite broths out of the other hot pot places I've tried in the Boston area: Chinese Herbal, Mala (spicy), Black Chicken, and House Special. Love the dipping sauce too! You can ask for the side of chopped garlic, peppers, and cilantro to add to the sauce. Like all buffet places, they give you a full size sheet of paper with a variety of ingredients organized by categories. They don't skimp out on the choices either: Japanese scallops, jumbo shrimp, quail eggs, spam!, four different types of dumplings, taro, winter melon, etc etc. There's something for everyone! For our meat choices: 2 lobsters- they were tiny and were an extra charge on the bill (all you can eat or so I thought) 1 order of clams-fresh and yummy 1 order of scallops - also very fresh and yummy Crab legs- ew these are the defrosted kind yuck! 1 whole crab - this was a rock crab and I definitely enjoyed it Thin sliced beef of some sort - my dad ordered this I do not enjoy beef so...I guess that will stay out of my review. Shrimp - yummy and definitely fresh and sweet fresh tofu - which I love so no bad review here For veggies: Bok choy, watercress, and spinach - all were fresh unwilted and delicious. Although I must say....I am a vet at eating hot pot. Their dipping sauce is way too salty. Typically hot pot places will give you fresh minced garlic, fresh chilies, and fresh scallions. But here...unless you ask repeatedly you will not get it. Service...food came out very slow and we seemed to have to keep on reminding our waitress to get us our order. We stuffed our faces for about an hour and a half (two hour limit BTW). After about an hour the waitresses started to ignore us because we wouldn't stop ordering food. As an avid fan of hot pot, I wanted to give this place a shot. The food was all right, the portion sizes were fine. Drinks were on the pricer end, as a can of Sapporo was $8! That was a rip off! The soup base was also an extra charge! The food selection is quite large ranging from different cuts of meat, seafood balls, and veggies. Nearly all of the meats are frozen, so don't be expect fresh cuts of meat if that's what you're looking for. I highly recommend the quail eggs. Service was seriously lacking in this place. Our waitress could have cared less about attending to our table. Took her forever to come over to take our drink and food order. It was hard to flag her down as well. I swear she just ignored our table at some points. For the price for all you can eat hot pot at $22 per head is pretty good, but be prepared to be annoyed with the service when you come here. Also, be wary of what ever extra charges there may be so double check your check before you pay. I'm not sure if I would come back. The service was fantastic and the value for what they gave was good. BUT when our food arrived everything was okay until, a cockroach appeared in our table. We dusted it off and tried to kill it, the staff saw what was happening. One rushed over and started to kill it. They picked it up and disposed of it. First review since coming back to Boston! Food: 4/5 Big portions of reasonably fresh meat, seafood, veggies, and various types of pasta and other assorted goodies. The Prime Rib is the meat to get here, as are the various types of fish cakes, the flounder filets, and scallops alongside fresh cilantro and spinach. Try the spinach noodles for something new or stick with the tried and trusted vermicelli for a quick boil. The broths are decent, but the mala is SORELY lacking in heat level compared to an authentic Sichuan peppercorn-infused hellweave, so if you're a heatseeker, make sure you ask for extra pepper sauce on the side. Avoid the Arctic Clams-they're frozen and not always cleaned fully, so you run the risk of biting into grit. FYI-they do not allow you to take leftovers, so order wisely and don't waste food. Drinks: 3/5 Standard variety of beer, wine, some cocktails, and soft drinks. You're really here for the food, so this is not as important. If you need to cool down, try drinking soymilk or a soft drink, as the water glasses are not always the cleanest. Service/Ambiance: 3.5/5 Waiters are generally attentive and will bring you your food and anything else you request in a reasonably timely manner. My roommates and I tend to frequent this place. For a while we were ending up here once or twice a week. It's a pretty good deal when lunch is $14 and dinner is $20. The money you are dishing out also goes a long way. To start its a buffet so you can keep them bringing you more. The beef is the best. My roommates and I order several plates of all the different types of beef and still have room for more. To follow the beer selection while small, is reasonably priced. Its a bit less than what you pay in some bars. The staff is also always very friendly and always walking around to see if you need more broth. It can get pretty crowded on Friday nights and the weekends, but I can usually get a table without much of a wait. Don't be afraid to bring friends who may not be too chopstick savvy. When I first got there, I got too excited and ordered too much stuff. This is an easy mistake, so try not to order everything on the menu (I'm personally not a fan of wasting food). We got the scallops, fish cake, quail eggs, beef balls, chicken breast, beef rib, fried fish balls, fish tofu, white fish slices, and some standard hotpot veggies. I've sat at the tables before and I'm pretty sure I like that better. Davel got the spicy broth and I got the Chinese herbal one. I found his to be a bit too spicy for my liking so I didn't eat much out of his. I really like the different varieties of balls and dumplings they had to offer. We got the beef and that was really good like always. I mistook beef tendons for something else and well, I was a bit disappointed because that was the gooey stuff in pho and that was my least favorite part so Davel ate it all, and had it melt in his mouth. We had another competition and well, I for sure won. Service was as usual but seemed funny because the people across from us got plate changes and we didn't. Davel said that it was because we didn't have napkins in our shirt. I will come back in the future, but be sure to put a napkin in my shirt to see if we'll get plate changes. read more

Only Hot Pot that is buffet style I know of in Chinatown! I usually like to come in for lunch (15.99 per person), and 2 extra dollars for any special broth like Mala (it's spicy but good). Great variety of meats, seafood, vegetables, and noodles. Very worth it! My fav choices are the prime beef choice? Beef tongue, Flounder Fillet, napa cabbage, fried tofu skin (this is a must!), pumpkin, and udon/spinach noodles. Night time prices are about 22/23 bucks per person and the only difference is that it has some extra seafood like salmon and meats like rib eye. Not really worth the extra bucks to spend to eat at night but up to you of course! PST, you can order a side of green onion and garlic to add onto your hot pot sauce. It makes a difference in the flavor. The pots are on either electric stoves or a gas stove if you are sitting on a fold up table. I prefer sitting on an actual table seeing how the fold up table looks very flimsy. I wouldn't want any of my hot soup to just tumble on me if the table decides to fall on me. ****For those new to hot pot*** You start with a soup choice, and you are given a paper sheet with a list of food choices, check the hell out of it, and start swishing them in your boiling hot soup, and time to devour your now favorite meal. After you are done with your meal, enjoy some delicious fresh sliced oranges (unless you're allergic to them, sorry). Now I have been hearing from random people how this place is not clean. There was a photo of a roach on the wall and a photo of a worm? So far I have yet to experience this and I hope I don't. To me, I'm cooking food in boiling hot soup so I think it's safe to eat here. As vegetarian hot potters, for us hot pot is all about fresh veggies, perfectly cooked Shanghai noodles, and yummy sauces. Sadly, the veggies weren't fresh, the tofu balls were rancid, limited noodle options (overcooked to boot), and very limited sauces. It's rare that I feature restaurant policies in my reviews, yet here they are: 1) broth is a separate, extra item (what?!?); 2) no posted notice that lunch pricing doesnt apply on weekends, and 3) no vegetarian pricing (we consumed $2 of veggies and paid the same as people who gorge themselves on $20 of meat). We went at lunch time because we couldn't justify dinner pricing since all we eat is dirt cheap veggies. Verified the sign said lunch prices until 4 pm, no mention of weekdays only (it was a Sunday). So imagine our surprise when the bill comes: 2 vegetarian hot pot meals: $52; $2 per person for broth. Now I've seen places where lunch pricing doesn't apply on weekends, but it's not sprung on you at the register, IT'S POSTED. So note to ownership: this is totally fixable. Very good food and a unique experience like no other. You order steak, chicken, pork, and fish and get to cook it in a boiling pot. Not the best for picky eaters. If you're looking for a unique eating experience and amazing flavors i'd definitely recommend visiting. read more

I have been to about 5 hot pot places and this is first on my list! It has yummy broth flavors and a wide selection of food. The other ones I've been to either aren't buffets or have poor selections. I knocked off a star because: 1. The last time I went there, it wasn't really busy but they waiter wasn't attentive. 2. My second to last time there, it was supper crowded and you literally had to jump up and down your seat while waving your arms like a maniac to barely get a staffs attention. 3. They don't always give you what you ask for, sometimes you don't get it, sometimes it's the wrong food. *******DO NOT be thrown off by what I said, it mostly happens when it's busy. My suggestion? Go when it's not busy. It's cheap, has good food, and everyone is very nice! I definitely recommend this place! read more

Had a lunch buffet there. Pretty nice food with a good range of selection. For the price, the food quality is okay, beef and lamb are reasonably fresh. Fish and other seafood comes in small portion, pushing us to write large number on the ordering sheet. Didn't give 5 star since waitress argued with us over the tip. Common in Chinese restaurants, but definitely a buzz killer. read more

This place is great...and for 21 bucks a person...all you can eat...doesn't get any better. Just be sure to order small portions...you don't have to commit yourself to a full order of tongue if you don't want. read more
