I purchase a $200 Lipo battery two weeks ago. I used the battery maybe total of 50 minutes. While at the race track, I noticed the battery smoking at the balance port. I know Lipo batteries can be dangerous so I set the battery on concrete and before you know it, the battery went up in smoke. I did not have a receipt only a bank statement showing I made a purchase. With no hesitation or questions, Jimmy, grabbed a brand new battery from behind the counter and handed it to me. This place is a true gem of a rc hobby shop. The staff is very attentive and willing to answer any questions you may have. The track on-site is an awesome addition. Bought my son an RC truck and they included an all day pass to the track. That was a nice touch on top of the fair price of the rc truck he wanted. Asked if I can see what the vehicle looks like inside the box and got belittled with his disrespectful remarks. "This is a $700 piece of merchandise, what makes you think you can open the box!?" Was excited to go get to the new race track with the boys. Went in for a part on a truck we broke. Was 'helped' by Tim who was the worst help you could have ever imagined. All we needed was a basic bolt, he offered no help. He was completely condescending to all our questions. I wanted to buy a new truck to race along with the kids but decided not to after such 'great' service we got from Tim. Will not be returning. read more

Great outdoor RC track, I've been here a few times. They have outdoor table with chairs. They have power supply, porta potties. Sink with water, family friendly place to come to. Would recommend bringing a pop up canopy on hot sunny days. There is no shade there. Also bring a cooler with drinks is a must. They have a shop that has all the stuff you might need if you break a part on your rc car. read more

Just wanted to give my experience walking into hot rod hobbies. I came in with two dead batteries from 2 cars I bought and only used a few times. My charger's at home would not charge them at all. The guy who helped me explained what happened and put them on his charger and boom they worked. He could have charged me 10 bucks to do that but nope he did it for free. I had the greatest experience at Hot Rod. Im fairly new to RC, especially racing. Everyone at the track was so helpful and responsive. Very willing to share information and help newbies out. One of the racers (Chris) even took my car and fixed a serious motor issue that I didn't even realized I had. The owner Jimmy was the nicest person. He was very attentive to the needs of his customers. He knows how to accommodate his clientele. He was very helpful in getting me going. I told him I didn't want to buy tires online and that I'd prefer to support my local track/shop. He immediately told me that they price match with online and gave me the best deal he could. Went back yesterday as all other shops were closed for Christmas. This time the guy behind the counter was very helpful and took care of me quick. In and out with my new E REVO and batteries in about 5 minutes. Had what I needed to have it up and running in no time. Hopefully my lats experience was a one time thing. Prices were fair. We were wanting to buy a specific R/C car, a Traxxas Slash, two wheel drive with brushless motor. Absolutely intended on buying the car in Bakersfield, no one had it (one dealer had the car in 4 wheel drive). Everyone local was ready to order one, not to be too much of a wiseguy, but damn, I could order one. But fact of the matter is, we needed that car badder than a hog needs slop. To say nothing of the fact that the money was burning a hole in our pocket. Was over in the L A area on some other business and asked google where to find this r/c car. This store popped up just as we were going by the exit on I5. So we came down to Railroad, very easy place to find. Jimmy greeted us when we came in and he showed the car to us. He explained the time limits and the performance limits for the various types of batteries, I believe he said there were three kinds. The battery we got was mid-level, and we got a spare to be sure to have uninterrupted racing. He also hooked us up with a charger for the batteries. Both batteries and charger came with a nice selection of small electrical plug adapters so they will work on most cars. Asking about some upgrades for suspension, Jimmy told us about the parts, did not try to upsell at all. Two tracks are out back behind the store, we were more/less on a business trip, did not get to try them out. This store is full of everything needed for the R/C hobbyist (cars and trucks). The price for the car and gear was cheaper than Bakersfield. And we bought the car home today have already charged batteries and driven. Thank You Hot Rod Hobbies. read more

Having a Traxxas Slash on order and recently moving back to the area I was happy to learn that there was a Hobby Shop close by. I stopped in with my son to check it out and was greeted by Jimmy, a very friendly person who immediately welcomed me in and asked if he could be of assistance. After a bit of a chat I feel I can trust Jimmy and his wealth of knowledge with my future decisions relating to all things RC. Tim provided great customer service. Went in to see what was wrong with an RC buggy picked up at a garage sale. He took the time to see what was wrong with it and found out not only was it the battery that needed replacement but there was a broken piece on one of the front tires. Awesome R/C track for your short course truck or buggy. My husband and I enjoy coming here with our R/C trucks and buggy. The staff is pretty helpful and they normally have everything you need to repair your R/C when you break it. They have two tracks, ones a little smaller then the other but its still a good track. read more

Well i recently bought my first rc car and learned of this shop throgh a friend who used to go here years ago . I came in to buy a battery and charger for my new rc car and the staff couldnt have been more friendly and helpful. I didnt know a single thing about lipo batteries or chargers and the guy that helped me answered all my questions without making me feel like an idiot. Even threw in a cord i needed to connect my battery at no charge. I will definitly be coming back here to race thier tracks and buy parts as needed. Truly great customer service. This review applies to the tracks only. After frequenting SCVRC, I came here on a Wednesday after work. The tracks are down in a lot behind the store. I was the only one there for all 3 hours, which was kind of weird. The drivers' stands are such that access to the track when you flip your car is not very easy, and since I was the only one there, there were no turn marshals. On the larger nitro + electric track, I didn't even use the driver stand. I just stood on one of the centrally located tabletop jumps. The tracks were relatively groomed, but fairly rocky and dusty. This may just be because I'm used to the groomed indoor clay track of SCVRC. All in all, a decent track. Would be better if there were more people there (to race with and to turn marshal). I think I'll stick to SCVRC from now on. read more

Please have your porta-potties pumped out. We visited today on 6/16 and the date on the inside of the toilet said it had been serviced in 6/2. Families with younger children come to share in the enjoyment of watching the cars race. It is quite the determent when the bathrooms are in such horrible conditions. read more

I've been coming here off and on for 20+ years and I have always been well taken care of and left feeling like a valued customer. Jimmy does a great job. However I can not give 5 stars based on a current employee. His name is Tim, I believe ( not taco Tim who is awesome) but the other one. Th guy either hates life or hates his job and it shows...He is rude and and negative towards customers. The first time I thought maybe he had a bad day so I didn't pay much attention to it. I have now had 3 encounters with this individual and if he is working I would much rather go to the other local RC shop. ***JIMMY do yourself and customer's a favor and either Coach this guy or just get rid of him*** I have talked to several other people about this guy and they all feel the same way. read more

I returned to this shop after a 25 year absence from the RC car hobby. The first time I walked in a part time helper for the store came up to me to ask if I needed help. I told him that I had been out of the hobby and was thinking of getting back into it and inquired as to what was the newest stuff out and offered by what I remember were the best companies; Team Losi and Team Associated. After spending the good part of 2 hours with me telling me the pro and cons of each team vehicles and taking me out to the track they have in the rear of the store, I got the information I needed. He even introduced me to other racers who had the cars I was most interested in buying. After talking to these folks, I made an impulse buy and bought one of the racers used Losi SCTE Truck he was contemplating selling and decided to sell it to me. I went back into the store and purchased numerous parts to get this truck running. The help was great. They recommended certain parts and hop up and warned against others. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. This is a great store to get your RC Stuff. Highly recommended. read more
