Also from how often this place is mentioned when the conversation of brunch or breakfast in Portland is mentioned. With tourist season finally over and the having a weekday off me and my fiancée decided it was time to check out this highly regarded spot. There were no tables open but the small bar had no one at it so we snagged two of the seats. I could describe the overall feeling of the place as crammed and small in size. I think in the future I would wait for a table to open up instead. We both tried their special apple cider mimosa which was decent but likely would pass on next time. Food wise was tough to pick as quite a few options sounded tempting but I could not pass up on their special thanksgiving Benedict and it was very tasty! My fiancée got their popular fried green tomato Benedict due to craving it since our last trip down South. Similarly I was pleased to see they had grits and I had a similar reason for craving those. Unfortunately the grits just were not quite as good as I have had elsewhere. The staff were friendly and service was good but nothing over the top or memorable. Maybe expectations were too high but I would not find this place worth any significant amount of wait to be seated when I believe there are superior breakfast/brunch spots around. This was overall a good brunch spot. My husband and I split the "Mother Clucker" - biscuit, fried chicken thigh, cheese, curds, hash, brown, sausage, gravy, and we added a fried egg. The portion was massive and more than enough to share. The meal was good, although I would've preferred white chicken meat over dark. It was a busy spot as well. Have not been here since Covid. It's noisy but I expected that. Ample parking out back. I was seated at the bar after 15 minutes but then, without asking, the maitre'd graciously moved me to a small table, saving my old tired back. After getting rave reviews from family members, my partner and I went here for lunch on a day trip to Portland. We were seated in their tented "outdoor" seating in the back that thankfully was heated and protected us from the rain. We were promptly served by the friendly and attentive waitstaff despite it being a very busy Saturday morning, and after reviewing their (mouthwatering) menu got the scrambalaya, fried green tomato BLT and their chowder. All items were great, filling and warming while being balanced and well seasoned, with the surprise standout being the chowder-- SO good. The scrambalaya was great with some hot sauce and paired with their crispy potatoes. The BLT was also really good, great bread and a really yummy sauce. These eggs were perfectly gooey, filled with a variety of mushrooms (oyster, trumpet, chestnut, and hedgehog), with a little bit of sesame and miso for an extra kick. YUM. I got cheesy grits as a side, which were also delicious, as well as an iced chai with a pump of vanilla (perfectly sweet and creamy)! I thoroughly enjoyed my side of crispy and greasy Canadian bacon as well. The portions were just right--not overwhelming, and not tapas-style small, either. They have an array of (seasonal?) specials, too. If you're vegetarian or gluten free, there should be some options available to you. Vegans, on the other hand, will most likely want to head somewhere else. Service was incredibly quick and friendly. The space itself is small yet quaint, and there is no outdoor seating or reservations, so get here early and expect a wait. I have always loved going to this restaurant. It is much easier to go on a week day vs the weekend! They have wonderful brunch items! Staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and love to tell you their favorites on the menu. They always have specials on their board. Everyone seems to love this place and I really enjoyed it but I still think it was just average. We ended up coming on a Sunday at 11:30 and you have to put your name on the list. They don't take reservations and they don't text you when your reservation is ready. It was an hour wait, so we went and got a drink but rushed back to make sure we were outside when they called our name cause if you are not they will skip you. The inside is cute, with only a few tables. The service was really great! I got the scrambalaya which was interesting cause the eggs had rice in it. The meal was good but I wouldn't crave it. I visited Portland with friends and this place was highly recommended online / on Yelp for brunch. The menu looked good with a typical southern brunch spot, and it seemed vegetarian friendly for people in the group. We showed up and put our name in ~10:45am on a Saturday morning. It took about 30 mins to get a seat. We were seating in their outdoor "pavilion" seating which was behind the building (and actually we preferred that to sitting inside). It was really quiet, maybe only 5 tables in a sizeable tent, and really warm still (esp for a cold mid-Feb). We ordered quickly and were SHOCKED at how quickly the food came out. I got the Shrimp & Grits and loved it! The dish came with mushrooms, scallions and bacon with a good portion of shrimp, on top of cheddar grits. The flavors were all so well balanced, I loved it. MY only complaint was there was so much grease (hello, southern brunch, bacon.. what do I expect). But I scooped some of the oil off and everything was fine. We got a waffle for the table (as one does) and loved it. It was a thin, crispy, and light. The Maine maple syrup was also delicious. For a drink I got the Bloody Mary. It was nice and spicy (which is how I like them), and came with pickled string beans/pickled okra. Our server was also very lovely. She was pleasant and helpful and attentive! The only downside was parking was kinda hard to find since there's only on-street parking. Overall, we all really loved our meals so highly recommend! Review the specials board carefully each time you come in because we have always split one of the specials and if we're hungry enough we add something from the standard menu (and we're never disappointed). The kitchen staff has allegedly had a significant turnover rate in the last year so some of the stuff that used to be on the menu is no longer present -- but that hasn't effected the quality of the food one bit! It was a pretty small space but sometimes intimate is nice, however, it felt like we couldn't move in this restaurant. We ordered coffee drinks and they were just bad.
