I bought a Groupon for a remote starter in September and booked for early October because they were booked out for a while. They called to cancel a week before because the guy who installed the starters was sick. I rebooked for a few weeks later in late October, as that was the first available appointment later in the day. The day of I hadn't received a confirmation call, so I called them to confirm myself. They said they cancelled the appointment because the guy was sick again...and that they called and left me a voicemail (that did not happen). I rebooked for the LAST DAY in NOVEMBER, again because that was the first available appointment later in the day. I just got a call saying they have to cancel the appointment because the guy is getting surgery. I spoke to groupon and they gave me groupon bucks as a refund. Over two months after I bought my groupon and I wasn't able to redeem it, and they are still cancelling my appointment!! I do not recommend! read more

I've read the other reveiws about Hot Tint Speed & Sound and I did not have a bad experience - luck or not - that's the way it is. I used the Groupon for 1/2 off the auto start and then upgraded for $75 to have them add the door lock/unlock mechanisms. They also installed my power up/down car radio antennae. I found tremendous value in what I paid and for the work they did relative to what I found others wanted to charge. I dropped the car off with no problems, restated what the work was to be done (actually, I added the radio antennae request on the spot, and they accomodated my request). I have no complaints, they did a fine job, they delivered in the time-frame stated. Everything worked out well. read more

Attention everyone in the Maryland/ Virginia area.....DO NOT USE Hot Tint Speed & Sound in Gaithersburg, MD for anything vehicle related. They are the most inconvenient, unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. Apparently they take appointments, but they are still first come, first serve so even if I an an hour early for MY appointment, I may have to wait because anyone can walk in at any time......If you do find yourself forced to call this company for any reason do NOT speak to MIKE (last name unknown). After lying, claiming I yelled at him when I was trying to find out exactly where the "fine print" was telling me I would have to pay an additional $100 for services and hanging up on me...he didn't even have the decency to apologize for his unacceptable behavior in the work place. read more

I bought a Groupon for Hot Tint and when I called they were very accommodating. I had ask for a morning appointment but the only thing open was at 4pm. But they said if any cancellations came open that they would call which one did and I was in at 12:30pm. The folks there are very friendly and knowledgeable. They are liars and thieves, you will regret it. I am normally a very even tempered person, and my rip off radar was going off like crazy at this place from the time I first had my remote starter installed. On top of the fact that I was required to pay more than expected on top of the Living Social "deal" price due to the type of car I have, they kept me waiting for about five hours for the install. It was a total bait and switch. They are all about the fine print here. If you don't read every tiny little word, they will get you on something. My remote starter stopped working a few months later and so I called to tell them I needed them to fix it. I scheduled an appointment and when I got there (traveled an hour and paid tolls to get there) they told me that I had to pay them to fix it even though I just bought it a few months prior. They tried to tell me that they informed me of this over the phone, but I am 150% sure that I would have taken some other measure before traveling all the way out there if they would have told me I had to pay them $35 to fix the thing, I would have called the manufacturer or something, He went as far as to try to tell me "I was standing here when you spoke to him on the phone and I heard him tell you" HAAAAAA!! I have NEVER been so disgusted and dissatisfied with a business establishment in my entire life. Hands down, no contest. I purchased an offer through Living Social that offered installation of an automatic starter for $129. I made an appointment for February 14, which happened to be the day after one of the DC Metro area's largest snowfalls in the last four years. When I arrived, one of the employees took time to explain the basic starter package that came with the Living Social offer, and then also explained what I would get with an optional $75 upgrade. He was very clear that the $75 upgrade was OPTIONAL. I chose to upgrade. The original estimated wait time for installation was 3-6 hours--that is standard for this type of work. They were also booked solid all day. Yet, they completed the work on my car in under an hour. The employee who completed the installation went over the operation with me and made sure I was clear and comfortable with everything. All the the staff members were very courteous and knowledgeable. I'm thrilled both with the product I purchased and the service that accompanied it. It also pays to read the fine print on Living Social, Groupon, and other types of deals like this, although often the companies offering services are not allowed to list exclusions and exceptions, so it's worth asking questions about the service you're purchasing, such as length of time for service, type of product, etc. I verified the make and model of my car beforehand so I would know whether or not I would need the bypass mentioned in the fine print (GM models require it, but my Toyota did not). Worst Service ever!!! Would not recommend to my worst enemy. They don't honor any deals or receipts. My family and I have been customers for years since 2009 and I have had them Tint multiple cars for me. I paid for a lifetime warranty because when I purchased tints they had a sale and a deal. They refuse to honor my receipt but because I had my windows tinted so long ago they don't have my receipt but I had a copy. Then had the nerve to tell me they could inspect my tints for me for an extra $20 and re-do them for another $190 on top of taking them off for $113. Be careful they cheat you. Worst customer service ever if you're not aware a Saturday appointment means first come first serve. The point of an appointment? It has no value. Secondly I had to come two times so that I could possibly have my car fixed at this point. And was told the approximate time would be 30 minutes will two hours later and they still hadn't even seen my car. So you can't rely on their service, their product or scheduling appointments. Don't waste your time. Better companies and Cheaper. The remote starter isn't worth the money the time or the effort that I needed to put into it! read more

I'm surprised to see such horrible reviews! A year ago I got a remote starter installed in my car which I purchased from a groupon or living social. As I've come to expect when purchasing some of these online deals, the price you pay isn't always a final price. I had to pay additional because my car was a newer model and required an extra part (since now cars come with remote keys). Okay, I see how that makes sense. But I didn't have any problems with long wait times or with the starter itself. I just traded in that car for a new one and planning to go back to get a starter installed in this new car too. I had the starter in my previous car for a year without ever any issues. I do see the point of one reviwer's comments about it being run by ex cons. They are tough guys and to be honest when I first walked in, the word "shady" did cross my mind. But it was ready promptly and as I said, never had any problems. read more

I just got my windows tinted at Hot Tint in Gaithersburg and I must say I'm very satisfied. Blake working the front desk was friendly, had heavy knowledge, professional and welcoming. He anticipated me waiting for up to 2-3 hours and they have a chill waiting room that you can lounge at while waiting. Soon enough in just under an hours time they finished my vehicle, a five window one at that. Derek one of the vets there was also friendly and informative and easy a key asset to the team! Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend this to anyone. First time at Hot Tint and it won't be my last. Yes, they take you on a first come first serve basis on Saturday even if you have an appointment but they were very clear about this when I called. I showed up early with my coffee and ride, got in line and waited calmly. No one was rude and in fact everyone was very friendly and orderly. I dropped my car off and left to enjoy my day. I received a call about four hours later that my remote start was installed so I returned to the shop. The installer came out and walked me through the features and sent me on my way. I was really nervous going to Hot Tint after all of the negative reviews that I read but I am so glad I went. Treat people how you want to be treated and chances are you'll get the good treatment you are looking for. read more

Worst place in the world to go get a tint from they do ok job on tint but will trash the inside of your car. How do you get dirt all over my car putting a tint in. They offered to clean it but who would let them touch there car again after that, plus there not a detail shop or car wash so why would I let you touch my car again? This place is this most disshonest place I've dealt with. DO NOT GO HERE! I bought a groupon and they use a $50 remote starter from dei and say the install is worth $259. The normal install is worth $129, which is what the groupon costs. It says it right on their website! They lied to me and tried to cover it up saying it costs minimum $259 to jnstall a basic system. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND ESPECIALLY YOUR MONEY!....bought groupon for remote start and had to wait a month before they had any available appts. was recommended an upgrade for the remote start system, but later realized it was a downgrade because it was for a 2008 Avital product rather than the Viper system the Groupon explicitly stated we would be receiving. Also paid for painting of headlights and tailights, which was by far the lowest quote I had received, but later came to realize why. When I came back the next morning to pick up the car, (yes, they had it for 24hrs), the paint job was horrific. There were clear indications on the headlights that they had painted right over the headlight without cleaning it first, and there were missed spots, accidental spots, scratches, uneven paint, and mismatched circular measurements around my headlight. One tailight was done beautifully, but the other had a deep bled run and there were spots on the part of the tailight that was not to be painted. In addition, my remote start system did not work properly when I came to pick it up, so I had to wait another hour and a half for them to fix it. Finally, when they believed they fixed it, I find that my remote start system works until my door or trunk is opened. Once either of those are opened, it shuts off, which is absolutely ridiculous. When I called Directed systems, who owns Avital and Viper, they told me that I could have gotten another bypass module installed that would allow me to remote start my vehicle without it shutting off when a door or trunk is opened, and its actually cheaper than the bypass module I already bought, I am already taking the appropriate steps to have my money returned to me because this shop is a complete joke and I will never return or recommend anyone here. This is my first yelp review, I just had to write one. This place now has horrible customer service; the guy that helped me talked like he was angry about something. I've tinted multiple cars here since 2010 and never had problems...so today I took another car and arrived at 9am. Everyone's appointment is at 10 am, so I wanted to be the first one out and got there an hr early, just like I used to. Then around 9:45, people started showing up, the doors opened and everyone rushed in front of me. I asked for my car to be moved up since I was one of the first two there, and got "Okay I'll do my best." I came in 2nd, left 6th or 7th after 5 hours of waiting. Complete BS that people get in front of me and won't move even after I ask. What's worse is that the employees did nothing about it and did not move my car up in order. This isn't how it used to be when this shop opened. I've referred at least 7-10 cars/friends in the past and will not any longer. This is the last time I will come here. Oh and the tints? They are alright...don't get too lost in the price: the Living Social deal only covers the bottom-end type of tint and you will be charged $15 for every quarter window you have on the car as well. Also, they charge $23 for supplies, so you'll end up paying full cost any way. read more

Don't go here. I bought a Groupon for a remote start only to arrive and have them tell me that the one in the ad is basically a piece of Shht and that I needed to spend $75 to upgrade to the "real" one. They also told me I needed both keys in case my car didn't have a by-pass. I didn't have both, seems like they could have told me that on the phone. They are slow, unprofessional, and appointments mean nothing. Oh, and the remote start quit working after a few months and I had to go back. I honestly have no idea how they are in business. I purchased a $49.00 Groupon for window tinting, my appointment was at 3pm, they actually brought my truck in the garage at 4:30. The guy did great work...it looks good and the guys were very friendly and polite...HOWEVER...I think the business is doing some shady tax fraud stuff. Not sure how I was charged 9% tax (state of MD is 6%) and the answer to why they charge 9% was because of HAZMAT (though I am not sure what hazardous material was put on my truck) I was also charged 9% sales tax on the retail amount, NOT the groupon amount...which really confused me. I have since done the research and learned that the only 9% sales tax that can be charged in the state of MD is for alcohol. (this is something I will follow up with,with the IRS). Yeah the place stunck of Karosene gas, and there was not really a very comfortable place to sit (when you have to wait for 2 and a half hours) BUT they guys did honest work, I'm just not convinced it was for honest pay. read more
