I recently won a $100 gift card for this store and although not necessarily an age appropriate store for me, I was able to see lots of items I loved. Specifically Jack Skellington items so we bought a blanket, a couple of plush dolls and some slippers. So I guess age appropriate doesn't apply after all! The service was awesome! I still love this store, we stopped in to see if they had maybe a cute lunchbox for baby girl. Didn't see anything, saw so many other things I wanted but don't really need right now. So we looked around, they had a lot of really cute stuff I wanted to get but maybe next time. We had fun looking around the store though they have so much to look at. EMMA THE CASHIER IS HIGHLY INCOMPETENT. Receipt says Cashier: 307447 Emma and salesperson 291706 Kim. She does not know that REWARDS in your account is NOT hot cash. So you can use coupons on a FULL PRICED item. She refused to even scan the coupon and proceeded to berate and argue with me about how it's not combinable because I'm using my rewards. SINCE WHEN is using a 30% coupon for the item that wasn't even any discounts or coupons applied to it not combinable? On top of that she kept pushing me to spend more and use their promotion that they have in the store for BOGO 30%. No I do not want to buy more items I just want that ONE ITEM that I wanted to purchase. I know how the coupons work I've been shopping at hot topic for DECADES. I contacted customer service and they said that IT IS combinable and the employee was wrong. I have been shopping at hot topic for over a decade and never have I had such terrible customer service from in-store purchase. read more

Went into the store to return a shirt I bought a week ago and was met with acquisitions from the cashier worker named Nemo. They accused me of wearing the shirt to an event and returning it after in a very condescending tone. The shirt was untouched with all of the stickers and tags on it. Such an odd acquisition that I can't help but think is some form of profiling. read more

Literally my favorite Hot Topic. The girls there (one of them is Emma, and I never got the second girls name) are so sweet and patient. They were helping my friend and I out so much. Date of visit: December 9, 2018 Seeing how we were on the hunt for a Funko Pop my brother would like as a Christmas gift - and the folks at BoxLunch didn't carry it - we were directed over to their "sister" store at Hot Topic. MAJOR sensory overload here; while BoxLunch is the more "family-friendly" version of the two stores, Hot Topic is like the edgier older sister. You know, the cool one rocking the heavy metal t-shirt with leather & chrome-studded accessories while smoking behind the school bleachers... surprisingly, despite the loud music blasting through the store and the punk rock appearance of the staff, they were actually very helpful and friendly to us. Granted, we weren't able to find the Funko Pop my brother was interested in, but we did find some Disney-related merchandise that BoxLunch was out of stock at. So, although Hot Topic is most certainly not in our age demographic, it's still a good place to browse around and see what's out there. read more

The scrawny boy cashier working at 5:30 pm on Oct 11th, 2022 was disrespectful and should not be working in customer service He pointed out that my shirt was "filthy" around the neck and could not be returned. I checked the shirt and there was nothing "filthy" about the shirt. I had worn it for a couple hours previously... the shirt was WHITE and any mark would be distinguishable on it. After some deliberation he gave me the refund. I said thank you and have a good one. He did not respond. This all leads me to believe there was some racial motivation behind this unwarranted harassment. This human filth needs to be fired. read more

Today is 8/10/24 the absolute worst experience of my life. I tend to shop way too much at Hot Topic, because they normally have great service. The first clue I got that it was going to be horrible is when I walked in with a return. The girl that is scary as is by the door gave me a side eye. I went to pick out the items I wanted to get. I had my receipt that was from the previous day. There was 4 girls standing around behind the register. I told her hi I would like to exchange this. She told me I could not because it was not the correct packaging with an attitude. I told her I have a receipt from yesterday that manager helped me. Why don't we call him. She was mumbling with 3 of the 4 employees then she said well let me see I tried to give her my phone number so she could see that I buy way too much from them. Then she said so what do you want to do? I asked her the name she said I don't have to give you my name??!! She said I was giving her attitude? I was like listen I'm matching everyone's energy I was going to do an exchange, but not give me my money back. Instead of making a sale she took a hit with a return I walked out but left my phone all 6 employees with an empty store where having a meeting behind the counter . I cannot tell you how absolutely ridiculous that was. If she was the manager she would be fired. If she knew how much I would be willing to spend, but this store is in business to get rid of you not to help you. I will stick to my usual 3 stores that are kind and helpful with a clean store. Hot topic always has amazing fan gear from Harry Potter, my little pony, Disney, and all kinds of bands! Some of my favorite items that I've gotten here include my Gryffindor Harry Potter socks, my golden snitch Harry Potter necklace, my miniature care bears, my frozen T-shirt, and my new boys T-shirt I also bought a Tinkerbell costume here that I wore last year that I got so many compliments on! I always like comparing chain stores. Out of all the Hot Topics I've visited, this one is my favorite. Even though the Hot Topic at The Outlets and at Main Place are closer to me, I always ship my online orders to this location. Employees are nice and helpful. Whoever is in charge of drawing on the welcome sign is really good at what they do. Their Tina, from Bob's Burgers, drawing is always spot on! Compared to other locations, this one is always well stocked. They 8 out of 10 times offer the BOGO 50% off sale. Always check out the clearance sale! I went in once and saw a buy one clearance item and get 2 clearance items for free!!! My online orders are always on time. Online returns are fairly easy to do at the store. I once ordered a Boba Fett standee online and the product came in damaged. I was able to return it without any issue. read more

I love Hot Topic and have been shopping here since forever! Along with all the classic band shirts, they also have the more newer band shirts and everything you can think of with their logo on it. They even have tons of Disney stuff (which I love) and tons of Disney Loungefly apparel such as: purses, wallets, dresses, jackets, watches, and so much more. My beef is not with the store but with the people working there today. I went in with a mission, I knew what I wanted, and I was going to get it and get out. While I was looking for the shirt I wanted, a girl (who worked there) was on the phone and nearly runs into me to look in the same stack of shirts without saying 'excuse me' or you know, just waiting until I finished. Her attitude was just very careless and impolite. (She had reddish and super curly hair) whatever, I carried on found what I was looking for and went to check out. Another girl, with super short blonde hair, asks me if I'm ready to check out and sees that I only have one thing and mentions that I could get something else for whatever percent off. I politely said no and she's like WHAT! Omg really? Not even if you get the $15 HT Coupon. And I'm already annoyed and I keep saying nope... and I literally have to say 'I'm REALLY not interested'. She asked me at least 4 times. And then the politeness act goes away and she's like yeah... okay someone can help you over here, and it's the chick that nearly ran into me. She starts acting all nice and tries selling me more stuff and I finally have to say NO! I just came here for this shirt... that's all I need. And she starts acting rude once she realizes she isn't selling me more stuff. I asked for a gift receipt and come to find out when I got home, she couldn't even do that... her name is Aileen according to the receipt. I've worked retail, I get that you have to offer these promos but to badger and annoy customers multiple times is just not the right way to do business. Ask me once- and leave it. I love the stuff there, and I go quite frequently. The employees are usually pleasant. However, today was not one of my best experiences. There was an employee, I believe was a manager from the way she was addressing another employee. She not only did not bother to greet people, but she was rude. Her attire looked more appropriate for a bordello and she was just unpleasant all around. She lacks customer service skills, and the way she was reprimanding the employee showed an embarrassing lack of professionalism. All the workers here are extremely friendly and helpful. Besides helping you, if it's slow and they have time, they'll have an actual conversation with you for a couple minutes. They ask questions to help you find something you'll like, similar to something you wanted that they might not have at the location (I've bought a few things based on their method of doing this). I always feel welcome here. The store is clean and organized, and the selection is pretty good. Again, it's mostly the staff that gets this location five stars from me. I've never really had a great experience at a hot topic before. This instance I needed shoes for the 2008 Scream Awards. They had shoes I wanted but finding them in stock was impossible. They were EXTREMELY short staffed. I only saw 2 attendants, only one of which was running checkout, phones, and doing stock and answering questions for customers. This is too much. It's Halloween. They need more people. My need for these shoes was last minute so I unfortunately did not have the time to wait for the line that she had accrued while she was helping me. I am most certainly not saying this person was not helpful, she was in fact as helpful as she could possibly be, however, what I am saying is that the management did not set these employees up for customer satisfaction and success. read more

So far the customer service I have received here is the best compare to all other Hot Topic locations even though it's an hour drive to get here. Many months ago I have did an exchange with no hassle and the girl supervisor was really nice. Today they luckily able to hold me one Metallic Red Ranger Pop. When I had called a few times to make sure they didn't give my Pop away and they were really friendly and patient with me as well as understand my concern. The staff Angela that was there assisted me on the checkout whom was friendly and was patiently listening to problems I had with other locations which was frustrating. If you're looking for novelty shirts or disney related clothing, you've come to the right place. Hot topic has become a weird hodgepodge of nerdy, preteen fantasy, sexy gothic type clothing/accessories. Like I'm pretty sure their buyers stalk tumblr to see what's trending and then buy t-shirts and accessories based on what they find. Then they decided to randomly have a selection of sexy underwear in the back... Uh, are you appealing to the nerd in me or the sex kitten that you hope I secretly am in private? Cause you've got the weirdest selection going. Honestly, if they just stuck to nerdy related things I'd be happy, but it looks like they can't decide what they want to sell. This store in particular was so overly crowded with goods that it was hard to just walk through the store. I'm pretty sure people with wheelchairs would hate it here. Nothing is really organized well. I could see they tried with one wall being doctor who related and the wall across the way being Disney related but after that, it's just a free for all of crap to sort through. In all fairness, you might be able to find something you love here, for me, I keep stopping into hot topic because they usually have some pretty cute dresses that are reasonably priced (when they are on sale at least). So I haven't completely lost hope. But I probably won't return to this particular store. It's just to much clutter for me. read more

I love Hot topic and this one and the one in Ontario Mills are up there as my fave. The reason is they both have good clearance deals. The ne in Brea surprise me on the goodies because I found it on a weekend. Usually I could only find clearance deals on a weekday coz it's less crowded and they probably just scanned the markdowns. Best of all, I was able to find screen tees that are about old 80s faves. Usually I never seen this on clearance and they had quite a few I could buy. Lastly, the clerks were very helpful and quick as they had a long line and were able to speed it up by putting the credit card buyers and cash buyers in separate lines read more

I came in before work looking for a Captain America tank I had seen online but wanting to purchase it in the store so I could take advantage of the BOGO 50% deal. Unfortunately they didn't have it, but the girl working (who seems to be there all the time) offered to see if she could order it online, and it would ship to the store for free and I could pick it up and they would still honor the BOGO 50% deal. So I happily placed my order, but wasn't told as to how I would know when I would be notified when I could pick it up. I came into Hot Topic today with every intention of using my Hot Cash and left completely empty handed. It was a horrible experience from the moment I walked in. Now I shop at hot topic quite often and this was the worst experience I've had. There was not a single associate on the floor helping customers. They were all 6 of them crammed behind the counter having a very loud, crude and profane conversation. I personally don't care however there were children in the store and when one parent asked the associates to refrain from using bad language they laughed and one associate said "well the Disney store is down stairs. Take your kids there" every other word out of their mouths was "f.... this and f....that" along with many other rude comments. Customers were shrugged off when asking for assistance. I had over $200 of merchandise that I wanted to purchase but I was so put off by how rude ever single associate was that I left with nothing. I'll still shop Hot Topic but don't see myself going back to the brea mall location. read more

Love this location! While it's not all that different from most other Hot Topics, the staff is what makes this one great. My 8 year old daughter loves to collect Funko Pops, t-shirts, etc. of her favorite games, and the girls here always take time to talk to her, check their stock for what she's looking for, and generally go above to make her shopping experience a good one. Their social media accounts are really active and will let you know when they get new stock in, and when sales start. read more

Not only did he make no attempt to assist us, but when he was done doing whatever was more important than helping customers, he never asked what we needed. Some time between putting an item in my cart online and checking out, this awesome LoZ hobo bag went out of stock, so I called the Brea store to see if they might have it. I spoke to a very lovely gal (and I apologize, I couldn't make out if her name was Jessica or Francesca /: ), who checked, mourned with me, and also gave me potential solutions and suggestions for the future.
