The Columbia Mall location is usually a fine store with competent staff, however on this day the customer service was not only subpar the clerk on duty was rude and disrespectful from the phone call I made to check availability of an item up to and including my arrival to purchase said item. This store needs to restaff its crew with friendly customer service oriented employees. I won't be returning to this location. read more

My husband and I had an obvious incident of racial profiling when we went to this store on March 30, 2024. From the minute we entered the store, a sales associate asked us if we needed help. That seemed normal and appropriate. However, by the fourth time a sales associate asked the same, one coming up to us as we progressed to different parts of the store, we finally wondered about the level of attention being paid to us. After that, we started to track two of the floor associates, and sure enough, we watched them bypass groups of white shoppers while going up to Black customers. I watched a white female associate go up to a group of Black shoppers, skip the white shoppers next to them, and then approach a Black male who was shopping with a white female. The manager was unresponsive. In fact, she escalated the situation because she chose to listen to her employees instead of having a professional conversation with all involved with the purpose of resolving our valid concerns over what we observed. These microaggressions against Black people must stop. And people who commit them should be called out and held accountable. We will never shop here again. The service in hot topic is always great because they always have the coolest employees. My social anxiety goes away in this place bc I know those employees aren't judging me!! Even though I am sad to see that hot topic is losing its emo-spirit and having more kawaii-esque products, this particular hot topic in the mall still plays slipknot, mcr, and all that tumblr emo jazz, and still has some reminiscence of the old hot topic like studded belts and band tees and shit, which I really appreciate. One thing I dislike though is that they only carry the plus sizes on the website and I never see them in store. That could be said about pretty much every establishment tho so there's not much I can do about that read more

I give this store 1 star because I come to this mall quite often and every time I go into this Hot Topic it's the same. 1. They don't greet you like they're supposed too. How am I supposed to know what promo's are going on in the store if you don't talk. 2. The first time I ever went in there, I went to ask a question about the Pop figures and this girl gave me the worst attitude. Pretty sure she was part of management. 3. When the employee's aren't talking to you, they're messing around having their own conversations not paying attention to the store. I love this store!!! They have a ton of women and men's clothing, and a huge selection of band and music tees. When Halloween comes around they have a huge selection of costumes. They have tons of accessories and lingerie, and a lot of items based off popular tv shows and movies like Nightmare Before Christmas and Invader Zim. Their makeup and hair dye selection is great, and all the staff members are very friendly and helpful. read more

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. There's always something on sale. I personally love the music they play. They do have lots of great band merch, but there's a much greater variety of things than most people think. It is primarily a pop culture store, but aside from bands, they have merch from TV shows like Stranger Things and Riverdale, Disney merchandise, and Pusheen. They have just about everything there clothing-wise and nearly year-round: shirts, tanks, jeans, shorts, skirts, dresses, swimsuits, and socks. Also lots of cute jewelry/accessories! The staff is very helpful and will greet you when you come into the store to tell you about their promotions. If you need assistance with anything they're always happy to do so. They're also not very pushy at checkout - for example, if there's a buy 3 get 1 free sale going on and you only have 2 things, they won't follow up with "you sure?" when you initially decline to get a third item. I do recommend signing up for their rewards program if you shop there often, as it gives you frequent $5 rewards. They also have something called Hot Cash, where you get a coupon for every $30 you spend for a period of a couple months. Then you get roughly two weeks or so to bring in your Hot Cash, and for every coupon you have, you get $15 off of every $30. Highly recommend this for everyone invested in the pop-punk scene or with an edgy sense of style, but they really do have something for everyone! read more

Ok so me and my boys love this place we stop by weekly to chat with Emo Evan , Katie, and the store manager. They are hella cool. I'm not really into emo or heavy metal but Hot topic does have a lot of decent t-shirts to wear to the gym and they just relocated and the place is huge. It's probably the biggest Hot Topic on the East Coast. I love that they got so many t-shirts and adult toys. They remind me a lot of spencers but they are more emoish and dark where as spencers gifts is more childish and silly. The staff at Hot Topics is very professional and helpful. I was looking for some jewelry to give to a girl I was dating and Katie really helped me out. Also one of my boys has a crush on Lizzy. Lizzy is the girl who has short pink mohawk hair and has a bunch of tattoos. Hopefully she is single. Anyway check out the Hot Topics because the staff is nice and they have decent sales like 40 % off everything in the store. Rock on dudes!! read more

This was the only place where I was met with a super friendly greeting and was offered help to find what I was looking for. They don't deserve 1 star.. I come here often and I also go to the hot topic location in Arundel Mills.. this location is the worst stores I've ever been in.. they do not greet you when entering, thank god they hang up signs for the sales or I wouldn't even know.. my last visit here I was completely ignored and when finishing my visit I had a total of $200 worth in items.. I stood at the register for 5 minutes while I watched the employees walk around, look at me and continue doing whatever they were doing. at one point I yelled out, "is anyone working here?!" No response.. after 10 minutes I left everything at the register and left empty handed with my $200 in pocket to spend elsewhere.. I have never felt so disrespected in my life.. on my way out I walked by both employees that ignored me and told them they need to work on customer service because they just lost a sale and a regular customer! I will never shop here again! I went to Arundel Mills Hot Topic the same week (after this obviously) and they were as always wonderful, friendly, inviting, involved and aware of their customers!
