Been coming here for well over 20 years but can't say i will be returning. The remodel came out really nice but I wonder was there a change in recipes, cooks or management. Food didn't taste anything like it use to. Steamed dumplings and fried dumplings tasted like the frozen cheap pot stickers you get in the stores. Flavor was lacking in everything. Felt like i had to drench everything in soy sauce or salt. They didn't have any siracha which was weird to not have on hand. The service although was ok just didn't feel as concerned as it use to be. Something has changed. After sending a friend there after our visit for the first time. She to commented that the food was no where near what we had told her it would be. Would love to know what changed and if improvements will be made so we can return again. read more

This place has Chinese-American and more authentic dishes as well. Everything I've had has been delicious. Love Chinese food! Especially BBQ pork and Orange chicken.. it's all pretty delicious. We have been coming to Hot Wok for at least 25 years. The place has changed hands 3 times and we have become friends with all the owners over the years. If you want good Chinese food and does not want to travel far to the East side of town, this is a place for Chinese comfort cuisine. We feel we have been treated as part of the Hot Wok "family", as they always recommend the seasonal, not in the menu stuff if they happened to be available. We had a small banquet a few weeks back and the food was excellent. My friends who happened to frequent this place were so impressed with the dishes served, which they had never tried before. My family and I visited this place tonight as I have always wanted to! It was amazing! Where do I even start? They took around 20-30 minutes to cook which is good because I knew it was worth the wait. We ordered egg rolls which score 9/10 for me. Then I figured that I should try the Lemon Chicken. And my gosh, was it amazing! For me, it was a 10/10! The orange chicken wasn't bad. I rate it 7/10 because it wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be. After all of that. It was time to pay. I was amazed to see how well they could write in Chinese on the receipt! Not only that, but you can learn some Chinese from the fortune cookie. Pretty good Chinese food in the Valley. If you read Chinese, they have menus in Chinese. They also have menus in English if you so choose. Favorite soup: Hot and Sour Soup Favorite entree: Sizzling vegetarian plate - don't know the name, but it has tofu, black mushrooms, water chestnuts and other goodies Chicken and Ginger is also very good - a bit heavy on the garlic though If you're here for lunch, the lunch specials are pretty good values. Hot Wok Cafe was my second choice delivery pick after Lum-Ka-Naad Thai Restaurant, for some reason, told me that they "don't have delivery today." Odd. That sucked since I spent a good ten minutes deciding what I wanted through their online menu but I went with Hot Wok since I saw Susie G.'s review that stated their delivery was lightning fast. I called them and ordering was quick and seamless. I told the guy on the phone that I wanted chicken, I wanted spicy, and that I couldn't decide exactly what I wanted. He recommended the Szechuan-style chicken, which I agreed to, and I went ahead and added barbecued sliced pork and an order of white rice. And the waiting game then began. Not quite lightning fast at all, as exactly forty-five minutes later, the delivery guy, David, arrived with my order. I quickly checked it over, signed the $17.45 (before tip) bill, and then got ready to eat my meal while watching the latest episodes of Community and Modern Family on Hulu, which might have upgraded any meal. The staff member's recommendation, the Szechuan-style chicken was flavorful but not spicy at all. Though the chicken and the sauce were good, all of the vegetables were a bit dry and not very fresh. Surprisingly, my barbecued sliced pork was actually the better of the two orders and even that wasn't all that impressive. I probably won't be ordering from this place again. read more

The reason why I'm giving this place a 1 star is because of the service by a lady server, who actually to0ld us to change our tips to 15% after we had already put it on the receipt. This is pretty rude and had never happened to me anywhere before. They never refill our water and expect us to give them more than what they deserved. Now to the food.....we ordered the shrimp sizzling rice soup and it was ok, chicken curry was the worst ever due to tastelessness, house fried rice was decent, sizzling pepper-steak was very greasy, sautéed string beans was salty, BBQ pork was poor. My family and I have been coming here since I was wee little kid. In fact, whenever my mom and I think of getting Chinese food, this is where we go. My all time favorites are their Wonton Soup, beef & broccoli, mongolian beef, and their chow mein noodles with chicken. If you come during their lunch specials you can get a soup, little wonton chips with sauce, a main course, and small salad for under $10! Their service has always been friendly and attentive; along with their comfortable booth seating. While the food may be somewhat "Americanized" and all, I appreciate their cuisine for what it is and Hot Wok does it best. I'm a huge fan and will continue to come back year after year! read more

I've been going to Hot Wok Cafe since they opened. It's a family run business (in an icky looking strip center) with incredible food. Their pot stickers are second to noe and just about everything I"ve had there has been excellent. The restaurant has several signature menu items that are well worth trying and a friend of mine swears they have the best fried rice in LA! My favorite dish (if I must pick one) is their amazing moo shu pork; the pancake is so light it's almost transparent and the contents are savory without being gummed up with too much sauce. The atmosphere is surprisingly nice and they are also open for lunch. Did I fail to mention, that the prices are very reasonable. It's my FAVORITE chinese restaurant since Madame Wus. (Really!) If you liked the old Madame Wu's, I think you'll love the Hot Wok Cafe. read more

We've been loyal customers of Hot Wok and have been ordering delivery from them 23 years...BUT I'm afraid that's about to change. When I called tonight, I was told they no longer accept delivery orders over the phone and instead had to use their online portal (which was not easy to find with a simple google search). Once in the system, I discovered that not only have their prices skyrocketed, but their delivery charge has more than doubled -- PLUS there's an additional service charge. While I understand that the cost of everything has gone up these days, the fact that they've radically changed their prices and policies is incredibly upsetting...and it has forced us to reconsider ever ordering from them again. We've stuck with them through the years -- before, during and after the pandemic...but loyalty goes both ways, Hot Wok management. You've let down this customer, and I'm not sure we'll ever be back. read more

I've only gone for the lunch special, and it's cheap. When you enter the restaurant, it's nice and clean with random butterfly decorations. When you sit at a table, there are wanton chips readily available that come with a sweet and sour sauce. I ordered the veggie plate which tasted average, but came with my favorite snow peas and water chestnuts. My friends had the sweet and sour pork plate and the shrimp plate, which were good. Basically a lunch special comes with the main thing (veg, pork, etc.), an egg roll, an orange slice, and fried/steamed rice. It comes out on a plastic lunch tray, which always reminds me of elementary school. The special also comes with a soup of your choice. I think I had egg drop. My husband and I are fans of Hot Wok. The food is delicious, service great, ambiance always warm and clean. My husband has been eating there for over 25 years. I joined him in the Hot Wok experience about 19 years ago and loved the food. I am vegan and they have several vegan dishes that I love, specially the eggplant with deep fried tofu and garlic sauce! This is THE BEST Chinese food in the entire valley! I never hesitate to bring friends and colleagues here for a casual lunch or fancier banquet. I've ordered everything on the menu (and off) and have never been disappointed. Seafood and vegetables are very fresh. Some of my favorites are the three-spice chicken pot, string beans, steamed fish, mongolian beef.. all are super yummy. And of course their fried rice and noodle staples are superb! I have been coming here with my family since 1990. Great family restaurant and the atmosphere is great. The waiters and host/host already know us, since we have been going there so long. The decor is simple and clean with great butterfly decorations. The food is simple and delicious. No MSG!! I know how they have cooked for so long that I know when the owner/chef is not cooking and it is still good but not great as when he is cooking. From the simple yet exquisite sizzling rice soups to the main entrees everything is fresh, simple and delightful. The sauces are not overpowering and the meats and vegetables are never overcooked. The waiters/waitresses are great. Always friendly and making sure you have everything you need. I have never had a disappointing meal with them. It is great for family style, with their large round tables and menus for chinese american families - Menus are in chinese from what have seen, but the food looks great when served. I'm a Northridge transplant and after a long day of class, I wanted to be a cliche' college student and eat a spot of take-out. I pulled up Google Maps and it introduced me to what will be my new go-to: Hot Wok. I ordered the orange chicken (I know, I know) and vegetable fried rice. The total was a reasonable $20 for what was dinner for my roommate and I and it will probably provide three more meals. The menu looked like it had some extremely low priced lunch specials and I'll have to return for that. Food was great. Hot. Tasty. I'm going to go reheat some before I finish this review. Ok, I'm back. But, here's what I really liked about my first experience with Hot Wok. Their service. When I called to place my order, the woman on the other end asked me, "What time will you be here?" Perhaps I read too much into lexical choices, but what a great way to phrase that. It wasn't the old, "Ok, fifteen minutes!" and then a click on the other end. Order was ready when I walked in the door. Also, when I arrived, the woman at the front counter was asking me about my day and we had a very pleasant conversation. I wish I had gotten her name because she was lovely. read more

We ate there in person before and was happy to hear they deliver. We used to order from Mandarine King on Devonshire but more than once they were VERY late with our food and lied to us. Been there a few times when I was young and wasn't impressed by their food, which was catered towards the non-Chinese population. But in recent years they've added a large selection of authentic Chinese dishes, and those are mostly pretty decent! Have to say definitely one of the better authentic Chinese places in the Valley. Unfortunately their English menu is ordinary as usual, and Chinese menu is not available in English. Portion and price are both reasonable. Service is average; nothing to compliant or compliment about. Have been here many times in the past for family dinners and special occasions. This year we had our family's Chinese New Year/grandparents 99 & 91 y/o birthday celebration there for 3 tables (34 adults) of banquent meals. We had reserved the $318 set per table a week in advance. The food was so good! The dishes were all the traditional flavors, good quality, and delicious! Not salty or oily, as 50% of the celebrants were over 65 y/o and have a myriad of health issues. We were all happy with the food. If you're not used to traditional Chinese celebration food, then the banquet meal might not be what you order for your next celebration, but if you're familiar with, and enjoy, lobster, jelly fish, sea cucumber, whole steamed fish, complete with head and tail, then this is the place for you. The wait staff was awesome as well. Very quick, kind, and helpful. But if you don't go for the banquet meal, at least try their walnut shrimp. They make the best, IMO. It's sweet and crunchy and, most importantly, NOT bogged down with mayo. read more

In one word.... "Meh...". We ordered the Beef Chowmein with crispy noodles. But when the food arrived it looked more like Chowmein without noodles with a bunch of fried wonton skins sprinkled on top!! In my book wonton skins are NOT a noodle. We moved to Northridge about 4 years ago and chose to try Hot Wok based on Yelp reviews. I have to give them a great review. No, they are not setting the world of Chinese Takeout on fire. Yes, they prepare very tasty food and their delivery is LIGHTNING FAST. I mean, they deliver faster than any other restaurant in the area that delivers, including places that are geographically closer. I've never picked up or eaten at the restaurant, but the people who take the order and who do the deliveries are courteous, intelligent and great to deal with. And the food tastes good! I'm thinking more like a 3.5. After coming here for years, I still enjoy some of their dishes. Decor is comfy and casual. Their booth makes it feel like a diner. Their walnut shrimp is the best I've had. It beats San Gabriel Valley walnut shrimp! The crispy skin holds the texture. Shrimp is not overcooked. Got a nice bite. Other highlights are the fish fillet with green scallion and French style beef. Well made. Service is pretty good. They are very attentive on most days (unless it's super busy). Lunch specials have big portions. Sometimes I get two meals out of the lunch special. Get the walnut shrimp. read more

Friendly Staff- me and my boyfriend have been going here for years- they always greet us with open arms and have our order memorized. 3.) The BEST Hot and Sour soup i've ever had. While it has been quite a while since eating here, there are reasons why: While other might think that the delivery was "Lighting Fast" after about an hour and several phone calls from the restaurant to try to run our credit card, we finally received it lukewarm at best. When it did arrive, about half of it was what we ordered and the other half was probably what they had sitting around. We ordered Mushu pork and got something else (mystery dish). Chicken chow mein turned into cashew chicken. Sauces were missing to accompany any of the dishes. Most of all, flavor was missing. I spent a semester at CSUN. I hated living there (I was a Nor-Cal kid in So-Cal, didn't make many friends), but I loved this place. I ended up going a few days a week, and it made life tolerable. It's a nice place inside, and I'd usually get the vegetable fried rice and the Kung Pao tofu, both pretty good. The thing that kept me coming back, though, was the service. Every time, I was greeted by an extremely friendly staff, and they would lead me to what became designated as "my table." I know it's a silly thing, but having a table that's "yours" at a restaurant makes it feel a bit like home. They would also package up my leftovers for me, which was great, because I'm naturally clumsy, and prone to making messes. I would have good conversations with the waitress. Her name was Lina, and she was really cute... one of my favorite things about the place. I haven't been there in three or four years, so I don't know if she still works there. I really wish I could say more about the place, but I don't have much else to say.... I loved going here, and I wanted to show my love through yelp... Today returning from the weekend away I had to stop and do errands. I was parked within a few steps of Hot Wok in Northridge and decided to try them out. I now live within walking distance of this shopping center and like that there is parking here for restaurants if you play your cards right. Hot Wok made a Shrimp Chow Fun that was very very good. I have another meal for tomorrow for the $8.95 price too. I like the look of the restaurant and hope to come back soon to enjoy their menu. The quick service is terrific.
