The food here is consistently good, and the portions are always generous, which I really appreciate. However, there were a few things during my recent visit that were disappointing. They bring out tea and sauces and offer them to the table, but don't mention that there's an extra charge for them. It felt misleading, especially since this seems to be something they only do on Sundays. Transparency would make a big difference here. We came in as a large group, and unfortunately the service didn't match. Our table was only checked on once to see if we wanted to order more food, there were no water refills, and overall very little attention from staff. Despite that, gratuity was automatically added, which didn't feel justified given the level of service. The atmosphere also wasn't very inviting, there was no electricity, so no lighting or music, which made the space feel dull and uncomfortable. I was craving dim sum, so I came to A&W. It was during the week, and there was only one other table occupied. The restaurant was really dead. I ordered my usual dim sum plates - chicken feet, spare rib, beef ball, and turnip cake. I also ordered their soup dumplings, which was a sad excuse for XLB. The food here was terrible - it was all dry and lacked flavor. It was also expensive for what it was. I was also shocked that they charge for hot mustard! I didn't even ask for it or use it. The service here was nice - the waitress was very attentive and friendly, which isn't super common for a Chinese restaurant. That is probably the only saving grace of this place. I've been coming to A&W Seafood in Northridge for many years now. It's one of those old school Chinese Cantonese spots in the Valley that's been around forever. The food is decent and the service is alright, nothing amazing, but it's pretty consistent. The last few years I've mostly been doing takeout instead of dining in. It's convenient and the food still holds up pretty well. They also do dim sum on the weekends and it's not bad if you're in the area and want a quick dim sum fix. Some of my go to dishes here: Salt & pepper pork chops which is crispy, flavorful, and one of the better dishes here. The Cod with black bean sauce is a classic Cantonese style and goes great with white rice. I also enjoy their BBQ pork fried rice which is simple but solid comfort food. For dim sum I usually go with: Sui mai, Har gow, and the steamed Bbq pork buns. Overall it's a dependable neighborhood Chinese spot. I have been here several times over the years and the great dish selection is always consistently good. I love the food here. My family and I love to get the lobster and special house crispy noodles with bean sauce. Their sauce is divine it makes you want to keep eating and suck the flavor off the shell of the lobster. The service is great but the ambiance is outdated. We came here during their dim sum lunch time (around noon) and we got seated right away. The ladies were quick to ask which ones we wanted from the cart so we were able to pretty much have food within a minute of seating! We picked out xiaolongbo (soup dumplings -- although was disappointed there was no broth inside once you bite it, it's like it was dried up), shumai (salty flavorful soft pork dumpling), shrimp dumplings (tender and yummy), chicken feet, and a fried shrimp wrap (idk the exact name). My dad and I also got their house special fried rice to pair with the dim sum and we were both stuffed and full by the end of it!! We both thought it was yummy and very flavorful. Although, weirdly enough, my dad and I had to use the restroom within an hour after because both our stomachs hurt. First, they to charge us 2 extra dim sum dishes. Good thing a noticed it, so the owner removed the 2 extra ones. The total of dimsum we ordered including the ones they have to cook as you order and a 1 to-go chicken feet was 13 plates. We asked for the bill, I counted the items again, they charged us for 14 items. My husband told me to not complain anymore cause the owner already scolded the server. Second year of our tradition of having Dim Sum for New Years. Still five stars here in my opinion. The average of 3 stars I just don't see it. The servers here are friendly and easy going. Some Dim Sum places are not like that. Which is a nice plus. I like the fact that there is a Dim Sum place in the Valley, so I don't have to go far to get it and I can get all the standard Dim Sum food along with you can order specialties off the menu as well. Seems prices from last year to this year were pretty steady, just slightly above our bill from 2023, with us order 1 more item. Happy about that. I think the decor and everything has been the same since my visit in 2017, where I compare the prices (pictured) now that was a big jump from then to today, but all things go up I guess. We had dim sum brunch on a Thursday around 11am. Excellent customer service and plenty of choices for dim sum on a weekday. They also have a great menu to choose from. We ordered our usual House Special Fried Rice. Jumbo Shrimp, Dim Sum Seafood, Dim Sum Mixed Seafood & Meat, Scallops & Shrimp. We enjoyed the House Special Fried Rice as it has chunks of beef, chicken, shrimp, fish, squid and other types of meat and seafood. The serving was plentiful. The House Special Fried Rice wasn't greasy nor salty which is how I prefer my fried rice. The two waitress were excellent as they kept coming by to check on us and if we needed anything else. They also replenished our water several times without us having to ask. When we dined on a Thursday a little before noon the restaurant wasn't crowded however on weekends they get pretty packed. This review is for dim sum, not their regular menu. Unfortunately, my first and probably last visit here. My party of 2 was seated and carts came instantly. However, the food was poor quality and insanely overpriced. A tiny plate of cold walnut shrimp came out to be $11.50. The shumai was decent, and the egg tarts were chewy and definitely reheated. We were hungry and my brother ordered a few questionable items that we never had before. So the kids didn't eat much. Too many seafood items I think. We got a few staples like tangerine chicken and shrimp walnut which are family favorites. We had a huge table reserved which was perfect. The only thing that really truly bothered me was they didn't offer tap water. You had to buy bottled water for $4 each!!! With a family our size that was insane. An invitation for baptism reception brought me to this restaurant. We were served so many Chinese dishes that were very delicious. The gotta was pretty good, too so we always asked for a refill. My first experience was when I had to wait to be seated when the restaurant had only two tables of many occupied and had to get the attention of the person with the Dimsum cart. Parking was okay. They had their parking. The Dimsum was good, but the service was rushed and abrupt. So I stayed safe and ordered House special fried rice and beef, which was average. Dimsum spot in Northridge with decent food served via old school carts, but it ain't cheap. My family and I came for dimsum on a Sunday around noon and it was PACKED. We got the last open table. They serve dimsum via carts here, though you can order dishes via the menu as well. There are two different carts that make the rotation, one with the hot steamed items, and the other item with all the other items (desserts, fried items, etc.). However, because it was so packed and there is only one cart for each type, it took forever for the carts to make it around to us again. I've never waited so long for the carts at any other dimsum restaurant before. In general, service was slow, probably because it was so busy. It took us forever to get our tea and forever again to get a refill of the hot water. The jasmine tea tasted pretty bland as well; they didn't put enough tea leaves in even though they charged us $1.50 pp for the tea. I enjoyed most of what we ordered. Liked: beef meatballs, chicken feet, beef tripe stew, bean curd roll Okay: shrimp chang fun, chicken in sticky rice Disliked: shrimp + chive dumpling We did find the food on the pricy side. The smallest dish is $6.20 per plate, and the most expensive item we ordered was the beef tripe stew at $10.50. I'd recommend this place if you want a place to grab dimsum in the valley, but in general I still prefer to drive to SGV to satisfy my dimsum craving. FYI parking is terrible here. Considering this is one of the few dim sum restaurants in the valley already gives this place at least 3 stars in my book. We arrived around 11:30 am on a Tuesday for lunch. The inside is pretty spacious and has your typical dim sum restaurant vibe, with fancy chandeliers and a picture of a city on the wall lol. I was surprised that they did cart service. We were greeted and seated immediately and got the tea, mustard, and chili, which is $3.00 added to the bill. The price was pretty decent for the quantity and size of the food. The sesame balls were a little pricey but they were huge! Super thick dough and a lot of red bean paste. We ended up taking 3 of these home because we were too full. It wasn't the best dim sum ever but still pretty good and portions were filling. I was happy with the variety too. The women were all very friendly and helpful. It didnt get extremely busy during this time but there were a good amount of tables taken with Asian groups. I've been coming to this restaurant for 20 or so years. It's been about a year since our last visit. It's still busy and crowded, but I feel like the quality has gone down quite a bit. I know everything is expensive but now they use colorful plastic picnic table coverings on top of the white linen, which make the ambiance look cheap, and they don't always change every time, they'd just wipe it down. Also, maybe it's just today a rainy day that they don't have enough workers. There are only 2 dimsum carts and we only saw them going around 1x the whole time we were there. Food: some taste the same, some have gotten worse, which is too bad cos there isn't a dimsum place in SFV. Overall, service is slower than before, and food isn't quite the same anymore... kinda sad. Total order came to $63.73 with tax. I enjoyed the Sui Mai (large, fresh and flavorful), chicken & rice wrapped in lotus leaf and Chinese Broccoli. I wasn't a fan of the shrimp & chives steamed dumplings. The wrapper fell a part. Overall, service was great. Dim sum was good. I can only give this place 2 stars at best. Due to unsanitary practices. We came for lunch on a Thursday. They were not busy at all at 12pm. The service was ok. They only had 1 cart of dim sum. The ladies kept pushing certain dishes that have been sitting for awhile. The good was just ok. We ordered chicken feet, pork shumai, and har gow, Ambiance was uninviting. The lights were not on. The natural light from the outside was definitely not enough. Looks like they were cheating out on electricity. While we were eating no music playing at all. The one thing that really bothered me were there tables. The big round tables that we were seated, was covered with a white disposable plastic table cover. As I was observing, after each table was done, the servers just wiped the plastic table covers rather than throwing it away and discarding after each guest. That was completely DISGUSTING. 1st time coming here on a Tuesday around 12pm. My girlfriend and I were sat immediately as the very spacious restaurant was only maybe 20% occupied. There's the traditional chandeliers, table toppers, circular shaped tables, and carts carrying around the steamy dim sum! After sitting we were brought out our hot tea, some water, and immediately approached by staff offering their fresh dishes. After a few minutes we saw enough of what we loved and had a pretty good assortment of dim sum dishes. I always love getting chicken feet and sesame balls at all times i eat dim sum. Their chicken feet were savory, juicy and umami. I liked the size and thought it was a very filling protein. We also had the shrimp dumplings (2 dishes worth) very crunchy shrimp wrapped in the thin doughy dumpling. Super tasty and very satisfying to eat. We normally drive to other areas of LA for dim sum but were very happy to find a spot with good dim sum close by. We will be back as the value of food was pretty good for the price. Food is subpar, the options are minimal for dim sum and not fresh either. And what makes the experience even worse is that fact that the owner of the restaurant refused to turn the air on. It is currently one of the hottest summers in the valley right now, and when we were there, it was 103 outside. It was like eating inside a sauna. It was so HOT in there, even my 7 year old son and my two friends complained they have a headache that it was hard to breathe. Needless to say, we didn't stay long. We raised our concerns to the server, and poor woman, she said that EVERY employee has complained to the owner as well, but she still refuse to turn on any air to save a few bucks. Unbelievable! Poor server was having a hard time doing her job, you can tell because the servers all look like they are going to pass out. I don't know how that's not a hazard! A & W, how can I explain it? I have been coming here for a very long time. They also have another location by where my mom and pop live in Granada Hills. But i love their Northridge location better. These guys always have the Dim Sum that I like. Took my girlfriend here for the first time a few weeks ago. She love Chinese food. Dim Sum is only served in the morning until 3 or 2pm. They also have red bean buns but don't often see them, it's usually the other one that they have more of.
