    Orange Chicken - Small
    Joe G.

I can't believe I lived here all these years and I've never been to Chi's Chinese Cuisine. Really good attentive service and tasty food here. The Shanghai Dumplings are savory and the soy sauce is excellent. The Orange Chicken is really a must have. It's not your fast food or chain restaurant orange chicken, and at the same time, it didn't feel greasy or heavy. Just packed with sweet, orange flavor. The Zha Jiang Mian (Beijing black bean noodle) is quite interesting. It's not sweet, but not too salty or sour. It's savory with its sauce with a hint of the saltiness from the pork and tofu. I have to say though I thought the black bean sauce was more watery than I expected. It could be a little thicker, but it's a minor point.

This was an okay place for Americanized Chinese food but expect sweeter flavors in all the dishes. I came for lunch with 3 others around 11:30 am on a Friday and was one of the first tables seated. It's definitely a popular lunch spot, as it filled up quite a bit by the time we left. The restaurant is a good size with natural lighting in the daytime. I had somewhat high expectations since it's so highly rated, but it definitely caters to American tastes. None of us were particularly impressed and probably won't be coming back. We ordered 4 dishes to share: Garlic shrimp ($21.55 for large) Black bean fish fillet ($22.25) Szechwan pork ($18.55 for large) Garlic chicken ($18.55 for large) Sadly all the dishes looked about the same when they were served, in a brown sauce. Only the protein and the accompanying veggies were different, though all dishes had bell peppers and onions as the main veggies. The taste wasn't that different between the dishes either, tbh. Everything was on the sweeter side, even the black bean fish which normally is a very savory dish. At least the fish was more savory than the others. Because of this, it was my favorite dish of the meal. The Schewan pork was sweet and a litle bit sour, while the shrimp and chicken in garlic sauce didn't have any garlic taste at all. Very disappointing. Even though we got large for 3 of the dishes, the portions were smaller than we expected. If I didn't know better I would've thought they were the small portion. At least we got complimentary soup (your choice of chicken corn or hot and sour), house salad, and rice with our meal since we came for lunch (11-3 daily).

We had lunch here on a weekday afternoon and were seated promptly. We enjoyed the siu mai dim sum, hot and sour soup, and the scallion pancake (same with a peanut type sauce on the side) and the Chef's special that day which was ground beef or pork (I can't remember), noodles, savory sauce, scallions, and thin slices of cucumber. Atmosphere was cozy and service was attentive. Located in a plaza. The parking lot can get very busy and there are some street parking.

My wife and I have been looking for good Chinese for a long time and her nail tech recommended this place.. can I just say this place is the real deal.. all of the waiters and waitresses are so nice :) especially Joe he was so sweet and made us feel right at home.. 5 stars for his customer service.. we ordered so much food and it was all so delicious.. cream cheese wontons, eggs rolls, sweet and pungent chicken, sweet and sour chicken "my personal favorite" veggie, fried rice And veggie chow mein.. if your in the area give this place a try you won't regret it! We've already been here 3 times these lol.

We've been coming to Chi's Chinese for over 25 years, and it is hands-down the best Chinese food around. Truly a local gem. They have indoor seating, but we very often order takeout--and it's always just as fresh and delicious. Every item is consistently great, never greasy, and full of flavor. Our favorites are the shrimp rolls, kung pao chicken, beef and broccoli, sweet and pungent shrimp or chicken, and the chow mein. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Quality and consistency are what keep us coming back year after year. The parking lot can get busy, but it's fairly large and we usually don't have an issue finding a spot. This is the best Chinese food we've had, and we'll continue to be loyal customers for many more years to come. Highly recommend

First thing to be aware of, the parking is chaotic due to the number of shops in the center. Luckily, this restaurant is in the corner so street parking is an option available. Walking in, we were automatically greeted and sat in the lobby til our table of 7 was ready. This spot is ideal for a few large parties or a smaller group. Given the portions for the food, best to go in with people who like to share and then you can try several plates. Server was friendly but there was a bit of a language barrier that led to some back and forth when putting in our order. Beverages are limited but they do have some wine and beer options. I went with lemonade due to unlimited refills. To eat, I liked the chefs calamari (may be a little too salty for some), orange chicken, and the walnut shrimp. We ordered additional plates but you want to be mindful. Like I said, they're large and filled us pretty quickly.

The staff was in a great mood and instantly greeted me as soon as I walked in. The place was packed and I could see why. The food was clean, service was quick. Definitely recommend the sweet and pungent chicken as well as the chicken with vegetable soup.

Came here early, Saturday night, for dinner. This place is busy. Lots of takeout orders. Our wait was about 10 minutes. Once seated we decided on the dim sum sampler. Everything on the platter was really good and tasted like it was house made. The walnut shrimp dish was a table favorite. Crispy shrimp coated with a sauce and candied walnuts added nice crunch. The king pao was spicy but the dish still had great flavor. Unfortunately the vegetable chow mein lacked any flavor. Service was kind of slow but they were busy. Overall a solid meal. We will return to try other offerings

Saw this chinese place in northridge and tried date night with wife. The service was top notch , which was a rare sight for chinese restaurant. The food was good. We wanted to try a local xiao long bao place, and it did the trick for a quick craving satisfaction. Mongolian beef was on point with their sauce. Delicious, sweet, and tangy for the beef. Walnut shrimp was creamy and shrimp pairs well with walnut. Dish that goes down easily with rice. Overall, wife and I were impressed and will come back if chinese craving hits again.

I love coming here for lunch because they have a really great lunch deal. One of my favorite dishes is the shrimp with walnuts it's hard to find that dish done well at other places, but they do it really good here. The tea is also so fresh and tasty! The restaurant itself is always super clean and nice, which makes it a pleasant place to eat. The service is just okay, nothing amazing but it gets the job done. Overall, it's a solid spot for lunch, especially if you're looking for a good deal and a clean, comfortable place to eat.

It was the first time trying duck for some of us. Even with several other parties in the restaurant, the dining room had this odd lighting that made it feel like a liminal space. A strange combo of pink and sage green covered the room and there were mirrors lining all the windowless walls. Since they didn't have the usual buns for the duck, they served it with "pancakes" (basically thin tortillas), which worked as a great substitute while we piled on duck, scallions, and sauce. The duck flavor was good, though it could've been a bit juicier with crispier skin, but not bad at all. We also got the mandarin soft noodles, which had a great combo of proteins. Just those two dishes were plenty for the four of us. Overall it was helpful service and solid food, just a unique setup!

Everything I had was laden with this heavy, greasy, fattening stuff. If you're a fan of cooking oil, this is your go-to spot for sure. I had the "gourmet" dinner. That means Mongolian beef, my usual in basic old-school Chinese places like this. I chose won ton soup over the seafood soup choice. The broth was fine, but the won tons were thick and doughy. Not great. The beef seemed of a decent quality, but was absolutely floating in oil. This made the green and white onions too soft and mushy and dripping with oil. Ditto the very messy foil wrapped chicken appetizer, but the egg roll was okay, if bland. There are plenty of excellent choices for all types of Chinese cuisine in the Valley. No need to come here. Again though, remember I only had one dish, but I have an idea it's indicative of the entire menu.

My partner got the Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup, which was flavorful and comforting. We both grabbed sodas with our meals, and I appreciated that they had Sunkist. You don't see that at many places, and I love a good orange soda. The portions were generous, everything was fresh, and the flavors delivered. Service was great, too. The person at the front was super attentive, and I liked the mobile ordering station near the register. For anyone searching this spot on Yelp, just a heads-up that it's located inside the Northridge Mall. It's definitely worth checking out if you're craving some good noodles and dumplings. Tl;dr: if you're curious, don't waste your time, bafang is open 5min away Preface: I KNOW it's mall food, but for a restaurant that continuously pops up as #1 on Yelp whenever I search for food around the northridge/chatsworth area, I'm going to treat it as if it were a #1 spot. Beef noodle soup: to be very blunt, this was quite flavorless. The beef was dry as bones and looked like it was sliced with a mandoline. The noodles seemed undercooked and it felt like I was eating al dente spaghetti noodles. I got a medium spice level which didn't even seem that spicy, just a lot of cough inducing chili oil with no burn. Pan fried dumplings were ok. It honestly tasted like it was deep fried and not pan fried. Unsweetened black tea: hands down the best of the 3 things in the combo, which is quite telling. Honestly you get a decent amount of food for $15. But to constantly take the top 5 for recommended on Yelp in this area and waste my time to even look at it, it definitely doesn't belong remotely close to top 10.
