Would give 0 stars if I could...WORST SERVICE!!!!! Long story short... waited 90 minutes for a pizza that was wrong. Actual story--- ordered a plain cheese pizza (should be really simple, right?), went up to the counter an hour after ordering and was told to 'GET IN LINE' by an extremely rude server with blue hair. Once I got in line and was finally helped 10 mins later, I was told that my order was already 'picked up' 10 mins ago (basically when I went to check on my order an hour in). They had no system of handing out receipts once you paid, so you have no proof of how long you have been waiting, and if the order you were picking up was actually yours. The server (with blue hair) told me that my order wasn't ready yet (after an HOUR???)-- while it was being handed out. And to be completely honest, while I had been waiting an hour for my cheese pizza, people who had ordered after me were\ collecting their orders and leaving. I had to wait another 30 minutes for my pizza to be ready, and at this point, my party and I were starving so we just took whatever we got -- which was a cheese pizza with peppers on it :(( EXTREMELY disappointed with the service. I have been at Purdue for 3 years now and I am sad to say that my experience with Hot Box has made sure I am never going back there. Wow. I didn't even come in for pizza. All I wanted was cups and a T-Shirt and I got terrible customer service. The manager was STONED OUT OF HIS MIND. The displayed a really cool the die shirt for sale and instead of offering me that shirt that tried to sell me 3 other lame shirts for the price I already paid. Excellent pizza. I have been going to HotBox for years now and have yet to have a bad experience or get an order messed up. I generally get The Deal which includes a large 1-topping pizza, bread sticks, and two drinks. It's one of the better deals for good pizza in the area. I can't speak to their specialty pizzas, as I haven't tried them but which everything else being good, I would assume they are too. I even introduced my parents to HotBox when they were in town and they thought it was some of the best pizza they've had. I would highly recommend trying it. read more

We ordered delivery from this place and it came very promptly. I can't say I was that impressed with the pizza itself. It wasn't terrible but it was nothing special. I had the alfredo sauce with broccoli, mozzarella and chicken. The ingredients, especially the sauce, were pretty bland and flavorless. I also didn't think much of the famous breadsticks, which just tasted like bread sprinkled with garlic and had none of the buttery taste I associate with a breadstick. It is also quite pricey, especially for the area, I think. However, I also ordered a dessert pizza (basically a brownie baked into a pizza shape) and it was amaaaazing. Tried the pizza and cheesesticks last night and was very disappointed. 2 small pizzas and a small cheesestick cost me $30 and they were the size of paper plates. The crust tasted like cardboard and I barely saw cheese on one of the pizzas. the only good thing was the sauce. read more

I have been ordering from HotBox for a few years. The breadstix are the best!!! sometimes a little salty but easily brushed off to make them perfect. They have great dipping sauce!! Pizzas are very good!! I love their thin crust, its always crispy and light. The hippie option is also a nice choice. They have great toppings!! I have always received consistent & good food from HotBox. The service here is great!! They have always been quick and courteous about correcting any issues. Introduced to this place by my colleagues. Enjoyed the pizza dough and breadsticks. Visited recently on my own without the distraction of dining partners. While waiting, observed food handling practices that were not appropriate. Young lady with blue-green hair ran fingers all through hair while making breadsticks. Another young lady packaged baked breadsticks with no gloves after opening boxes and handling other non-food items. These were the two errors I could see. Who knows what happens outside of eyesight. When I canceled my order, I politely noted the food handling practices. When she thought I was gone, the young lady helping to expedite orders snarkily explained why I canceled my order to the cook as if I were in the wrong. The issues I brought up could be easily resolved with use of gloves or tongs and retraining of staff. Remember, a restaurant is not your personal kitchen. Given the public health stakes, restaurant staff must engage in more vigilant food preparation and handling practices, or you will represent a different type of hotbox...one of germs and contamination. UPDATE Jan 2016: A few weeks after my review, I was contacted by the owner who seemed to genuinely consider my concerns and discuss how they plan to remedy the protocol breaches I experienced. This is good with me since my concerns can be remedied with some solid (re-)training. read more

This pizza is certainly the best in the area, which isn't saying much really. I'm from Chicago so I'm used to top notch pizza, however, due to college locations, I do dabble in the frozen section at Walmart and occassionally a lil pizza hut or papa johns. But as far as commercial pizza goes, Hotbox is the best! I love the spicy pepperoni's and the dough is amazing and fresh. Idk about the rest of their ingredients though, their mushrooms are small and dry and their black olives were also small and dry and gross. Make sure you get the large 1 topping DEAL that comes with the sodas and the breadsticks. You end up spending more if you just get a large by itself. Wish I had known about that before. But the pizza is good. It's not just "oh man I'm drunk and nothing else is open" good, it's "Oooh let's get Hotbox to celebrate!" type of good. read more

Way better than Mad Mushroom in my opinion... So far this is one of the best pizzas I have tried not only in the area but in my life.... The crust is great as well as the sauces and toppings.... Be aware that once that you start eating the pizza or cheese sticks you might not be able to stop :-) I ordered the cheese sticks and the Big Al's Fredo and both of them were very tasty and fresh. read more

Great pizza, but they are pretty limited on delivery and the prices are a little high. The tip is go online and check out their pie of the week, you'll get that pie in any size half off. Great way to get a specialty pizza for half the price. It will always hold a special place in my heart because this is the first place I had pizza in the Lafayette area. This is the best pizza place ever! It has a great atmosphere and amazing food. My favorite is their breadsticks. They're seasoned perfectly and amazing hot cheese to dip it in. They are pretty fast with making their pizza and making sure it's delivered out quickly with plates and napkins. They treat everyone like they're friends or family. I always tell my friends to come here. Also kudos to them for dealing with drunks. Boiler up!!! read more

Great pizza, great prices, great location. The dining room is a little drab, but it works. When I'm alone I will generally order a slice or a whole pizza when I'm with a couple of friends. Never got too exotic with topings, but their basics are very good, one of the only places in West Lafayette I'll eat Pizza. Breadsticks are a bit salty for my taste. read more

A super-laid back pizza joint with fantastic pizza. Prices are par for the course compared to other pizza joints. The pizza itself is great, good dough and just the right amount of it, really good sauce, and since they make pretty liberal use of spices and black pepper you'll find pizza from other establishments tasting a bit bland by direct comparison. Really average pizza. Only one star because they are so incredibly stingy with toppings in addition to being so darn boring. You pay so much for add ons and literally need a microscope to find them. I've tried and tried and tried again.....every time it's the same. Average and overpriced. I'm a forgiving type....but seriously, every time?!? Service here is awful too, obviously and delivery is 9 out of 10 times over an hour. Plus....this joint is only a stolen concept from Pizza Express in Bton. That place was great....how do you knock them off, steal their secrets, and still get it so wrong? Go to Arnis instead. It's local, honest, and not so stingy. Went in for a take out order on Saturday night...first off, guy with green hair was awesome and nice. The guy running the register asked me if I wanted cheese with my breadsticks. I said yes sir, he said "don't call me sir, don't call anyone sir"...great attitude for front of house in a hospitality business. There's not a lot of pizza places to choose from in West Lafayette. Hotbox serves some weird pizzas that break up the monotony. I recommend the hotbox. Pepperoni pizza with banana peppers is actually pretty tasty. They have a weekly deal if you sign for emails. Usually 1/2 off a certain pizza type. Type in POTW for online ordering or say a special password if ordering over the phone. read more

These guys have awesome bread sticks. If they're fresh, they're the best I've ever had. You get your choice of dipping sauce to go with them. The Nacho Cheese is the best, in my opinion, but plenty of other options if you prefer. As for the pizza, it's not that great. It's pretty standard cheap pizza, but a little more expensive. There are cheaper options if you just want cheap pizza, and there are MUCH better options if you want good pizza. read more

I seem to go through phases with the types of pizza places I like and right now it's definitely Hot Box. I love the chill atmosphere at their restaurant and the fact that it's so close to campus. The food is really good too! I am a big fan of their pizza and their cheesy sticks...would recommend them any day! I don't care for the bread sticks too much though because they seem a little bland to me. All together it's a great pizza place :) read more

I started coming here instead of a nearby competitor because this Hotbox has the nicest employees ever. Seriously great! And they make really good pizza too. Whenever I ask for something like light sauce, they know exactly how much to put. My only advice to customers is that there's an air conditioning vent next to one of the tables and it might get kind of chilly if you sit right there. read more

I attempted to order a simple Italian sausage and pepperoni pizza, but was told "we don't have Italian sausage ". They told me they had a different type of sausage, forgot the name. I'm from out of town and I have to say, this was the worst pizza I've ever had. The "different " sausage was absolutely horrible and ruined the pizza. This company makes some of the best pizza in the area and compliments it with the greatest service in the area. The pizza is known by its New York crust (there are other options, but the original crust is the best) which is not too airy and not overly chewy. It has a slightly nutty flavor but doesn't overwhelm the toppings. There are several sauce options but the traditional red is outstanding (but the white is insanely good too). If you just get a standard pepperoni pizza, you will be in for a treat. The cheese is fantastically stringy and not oily. But, let's assume you want more than just the typical pepperoni, because this shop has their own line of custom creations, all of which are amazing. You are also going to want to sign up for their alerts and email because there is a "Pie of the Week" which is half off and always tasty. A quick story to illustrate the quality of service you get: I got a pizza delivered and ordered it online. Online the estimated time to deliver was 30 minutes, but it ended up taking closer to an hour - no big deal, it happens on a friday night. The driver was really apologetic and really nice. I didn't complain, didn't call, didn't argue and still tipped. A few days later I got a phone call from the store and they insisted that they were sorry that it took so long the other night and gave me a credit for a large pizza. The assured me that they were better than that and insisted on the credit as a token of their customer appreciation. I even told them it wasn't necessary and they still gave me the credit. WOW! What service from a PIZZA joint! And it's not like they are hurting for the business, either! I could not believe how awesome that was. THEY contacted ME to correct what they thought was less than exemplary service even on a busy Friday night. The food is top notch, the service is better than some nicer chain sit-down restaurants I've been to and they really make you feel like they value your business. OH, and get the breadsticks, they are awesome with the nacho cheese! read more

If Marco's was still in town I'd probably take an extra star off. Ultimately this is good pizza, but inconsistent. I've had it 4-5 times and they've always been 5-10 minutes past their estimated pick-up time, most recently they were 30 minutes late--and did I mention I always place my order right when they open or a little before! The most recent wait time was 40 minutes past the est time and it was infuriating as I got their about 5-7 minutes late, paid, and then looked over and could see my 2 small pizzas sitting on the toppings counter all prepared but not in the oven. I watched for 20 minutes as the guy stretched dough, sauced and topped at least 10 pizzas and put each one in the oven after he finished while mine sat on the counter. Ultimately those pizzas went out for delivery :( I really don't understand the rationale of that order as there was definitely room and time to put my 2 little ones in while he was making the others--especially when I noticed they didn't even have boxes out for that order yet (they line a shelf with the upcoming orders' receipt attached to boxes). Also, sometimes I'll get a lot of toppings and others it's very very sparse--especially the meat. This restaurant, while friendly, suffers from hippie service: they're always busy and the employees don't get in a hurry. But, even with all these delays and inconsistencies, at this point they're the best game in town. I find Dominos & Pizza Hut very greasy and poor sauce and cheese. Papa Johns acts like there's a cheese shortage in the USA in every location, and their meat toppings can be greasy and taste bad (their pepperoni has a gasoline-like taste). I've had all 3 crust types from Hot Box and they're all great, with the skinny being a true flatbread like crust--crisp at the edges and stiff, but not cracker-like. Their regular crust can rise too much in the oven, the hippie wheat is quite good. I really like the Popeye and Hot Chic, even though I'm usually a cheese or pepperoni person and a former New Yorker who is still grieving the loss of that unique pizza style. Be warned, the small is big enough for 2 people or 2 meals and they don't have a personal size. But, their crust heats up well in the oven the next day. read more

So, Hot Box called us when they saw on their records that our pizza was quite late. Apparently they've got the veggies under control, but we learned that the tootsie rolls are a signature of theirs. Really? Still odd. Pizza was better the second time, and delivered much more quickly. Other thought - what's with the slogans on the side of the box? My 15 year old thought "Taste what's in my box" was hysterical but couldn't find words to explain to the 9 year old why it was funny. About 20 years ago I might have thought that was hysterical, too, but now, it's just one more thing I have to "deal with." read more

A little overpriced for pizza on a college campus, but the atmosphere and specialty pizza almost makes up for it. When walking into HotBox, there is an alternative feel to the building and the workers, which makes going in comfortable and accepting. As I said before, the pizza is a little pricey depending on what you get, but there specialty pizzas are pizzas that you can't find anywhere else on campus. Their chicken alfredo pizza and their pesto artichoke pizza are wonderful. If you are going for a simple pepperoni, sausage, or cheese, there are better (and cheaper) places on campus to get them. However, their breadsticks are amazing. I am an avid fan on their breadsticks and I find myself getting them quite often. Some might think they are too salty, but I think they're perfect. HotBox cheese sauce is probably the best dipping cheese I've ever had. If I were able to buy cans of it, I definitely would. And I'll stick by that no matter who thinks differently. read more

Breadsticks and cheese sauce. The cheese sauce is bomb. The bread sticks are good too. Sometimes they're pretty salty though. It's like when you get a soft pretzel and have to shake off some of the salt (at least for me). This place is open late too. I've always felt the employees were nice. Even joking around with me. The pizza is pretty good too. Nice and cheesy. Just the way I like it. The brownie is super chocolatey and flat with very crispy edges. It is so gooey it falls apart too.
