Tuesday trivia! The restaurant itself is okay, what you would expect from a pizza place on a college campus. It was clean but could use a little TLC. We ordered the pizza and pitcher special which is a fair deal. The pizza was tasty for the price and the garlic bites were fairly good. Overall can't complain. I called ahead to confirm that there was trivia and the employee on the phone sounded a bit irritated but the staff were friendly in person. I was surprised that there were only 3 teams for trivia! Definitely think this would be a good hangout spot for college kids and younger adults looking for something to do on a Tuesday. read more

Mad Mush has become insanely expensive. We tallied up two super size stix and medium pizza for takeout, ended north of eighty before tip which is bonkers. Recalibrated for a super, large, and that pizza but still pushed seventy. I cannot believe how anyone would frequent such price gouging for below average pies. I have noticed the quality gets better the later we order, or perhaps that's our midnight taste buds talking! This location provides a lot of room, excellent menu options, plenty to entice all diets, and easy going staff. It's that must try Purdue pizza palace like Hot Box and Pizza King without the top tier ingredients or flavors like Pizza Uncommon. I rarely go for takeout due to this stuff being way too cheap to make at home but friends and groups dive for Mad Mush once a year it seems and the Cheesystix slap hard. read more

Having explored around Purdue University for a week, I saw Mad Mushroom Pizza many times that I was enticed to try it out. At first glance, I was surprised it was a 3 star average. I ordered a grilled chicken pesto pasta, and my group of friends ordered a variety of pizzas and pastas. The chicken pesto salad was AMAZING. In fact, the large portion felt like a large, and my friend's small felt like a small. The portions are adequately sized for the pastas, and it tasted amazing. The grilled chicken was moist, and not a single piece was dry. While I did not inspect each individual piece of chicken, I could taste the grill marks on each piece. The chicken was paired well with a bed of pasta, and the pasta was cooked to perfection. It was neither soggy nor undercooked. The rest of my friends ordered medium pizzas, and I tried the chicken alfredo one, which was good. The next day, I returned to order a custom pizza to-go to eat back at Hawkins with a friend. We ordered a medium pizza, and to my dismay, the pizza was much smaller than the one that we had eaten and seen yesterday. Initially, I was surprised at the 3-star average. While I would like to give the restaurant a 4 because of the pasta, I am hesitant because the location was not particularly clean (some surfaces were oily / greasy) and the portions for dine-in and takeout were noticeably different. Overall worth a try, but I would not go out of my way to eat it on any day that's not a "lazy day." I agree with the 3-star average. read more

While the location isn't the same, the cheesesticks are as good as they were back in 1996. Of course, the expansion and revitalization of State St/Chauncey Hill is a perfect location. But that's not what has sustained longevity for Mad Mushroom. Dave Sommers and his staff take pride in their business which keeps college kids and us nostalgic old folks happy. That's the bottom line. The atmosphere in the restaurant was outstanding, the service was terrific and the food (vegan pizzas too) lived up to every bit of expectation. Visiting Purdue, everyone only talks about Mad Mushroom: it's a staple of sorts, you see, just like Pizza X breadsticks at IU. I first had them 5 years ago during a cursory Purdue visit, followed up by a visit the following year where we ordered a potato pizza that we couldn't stop raving about. When I went back to campus, after my first stop at The Den for my signature Den Pop, we headed to Mad Mushroom. The vibe? Stoner. The scent? Unbelievable. The food? Don't even GET me started. Most places do cheesestix nowadays- heck, Papa Johns is famous for 'em! But there's something about Mad Mushroom stix that are unique. Perhaps that's just the emotional side of me but hey, it is what it is. They're consistently cheesy without being overwhelming or greasy, and the ranch dipping sauce provided is the perfect accompaniment, although the cheese sauce is a crowd favorite as well. I live in West Lafayette, in the apartments right behind the cactus. This location is less than half a mile from my apartment. Yet they refuse to deliver here. I talked to the Lafayette store and he said we should for sure be in range of this location. They just refuse to deliver here. It's just blatantly rude. So when I want Mad mushroom I order from the underwood location and I go pick it up. So now they get my money. Poor service for sure. Just lazy staff. If I could get delivery I'd probably have mad mushroom once a week instead of the every 2 or three weeks I have it now. But I guess they are saving me money. read more

Great place with a fun atmosphere. Lots of televisions to watch the games. Fun restaurant after Purdue beats some other team. Easy to get to. They pizza was delicious, but there were not a lot of seats. They also ran out of ice. Eventually they stopped taking orders because it was so crowded. Cheesy bread was good and my teenage daughter says it is worth the wait. It was good, but not worth the 1-1/2 hours we had to wait. Staff was friendly and the bathrooms were clean. I frequently go to Mad Mushroom on campus for lunch. They have a nice variety to choose from. Most of my coworkers get a salad and they are always fresh and appetizing. I've had pizza and cheese sticks from the Lafayette location and that was YUMMY! Mad Mushroom is a nice place near campus to get a quick meal and that's what I like about it. Plenty of seating too! Mad Mush is a Purdue staple and tradition. Two years after graduation and I'm still craving the cheesy garlicky goodness that is their cheesy bread. I stopped by Purdue this weekend to visit my brother and after walking past Mad Mush on our way to Chipotle, we knew we had to eat there instead. Their prices are good and you will always end up with leftovers. A 16" cheesy bread was $11.99 before tax. They deliver late into the night as all good businesses in a college town do. I think their food tastes even better after midnight.
