The food was great, and the service subpar. The restaurant was out of cups and they definitely didn't need to advertise they were hiring. The unclean dining room let me know.

Two slice pepperoni lunch special ($7.50)

Came in and had lunch last week. Two slices of pepperoni, drink, and side pizza sauce were $7.50. The food was ok. Seasoning on the crust was good, but the service was non-existent. There were 2-3 other tables, and each time someone came in, he took the girl working the front a few minutes to stop chatting with a co-worker. Don't expect perfection, but when you have customers, take a 30-second break to take care of them. For what it was, it was good. Place was clean, and for a quick bite, this is a solid choice.

I've only indulged late at night, but man does it hit the spot when I do! I'd go for the cheese and marinara sauces with the cheesy bread and always go one size bigger than you think you want. Trust me. Extra is always better!

Mad Mush has become insanely expensive. We tallied up two super size stix and medium pizza for takeout, ended north of eighty before tip which is bonkers. Recalibrated for a super, large, and that pizza but still pushed seventy. I cannot believe how anyone would frequent such price gouging for below average pies. I have noticed the quality gets better the later we order, or perhaps that's our midnight taste buds talking! This location provides a lot of room, excellent menu options, plenty to entice all diets, and easy going staff. It's that must try Purdue pizza palace like Hot Box and Pizza King without the top tier ingredients or flavors like Pizza Uncommon. I rarely go for takeout due to this stuff being way too cheap to make at home but friends and groups dive for Mad Mush once a year it seems and the Cheesystix slap hard.

    Pesto & Grilled Chicken Pasta

Having explored around Purdue University for a week, I saw Mad Mushroom Pizza many times that I was enticed to try it out. At first glance, I was surprised it was a 3 star average. I ordered a grilled chicken pesto pasta, and my group of friends ordered a variety of pizzas and pastas. The chicken pesto salad was AMAZING. In fact, the large portion felt like a large, and my friend's small felt like a small. The portions are adequately sized for the pastas, and it tasted amazing. The grilled chicken was moist, and not a single piece was dry. While I did not inspect each individual piece of chicken, I could taste the grill marks on each piece. The chicken was paired well with a bed of pasta, and the pasta was cooked to perfection. It was neither soggy nor undercooked. The rest of my friends ordered medium pizzas, and I tried the chicken alfredo one, which was good. The next day, I returned to order a custom pizza to-go to eat back at Hawkins with a friend. We ordered a medium pizza, and to my dismay, the pizza was much smaller than the one that we had eaten and seen yesterday. Initially, I was surprised at the 3-star average. While I would like to give the restaurant a 4 because of the pasta, I am hesitant because the location was not particularly clean (some surfaces were oily / greasy) and the portions for dine-in and takeout were noticeably different. Overall worth a try, but I would not go out of my way to eat it on any day that's not a "lazy day." I agree with the 3-star average.

As usual one of my favorite go to pizza places in West Lafayette. My sister and I used one of these Thursday deals and got an extra large 20" pizza. That was awesome. I also liked that the employees were wearing masks, ensuring COVID precautions are being taken. Definitely try their philly sauce base & jalapeño pepper topping ( if you love some spice - ITS VERY HOT! )

While the location isn't the same, the cheesesticks are as good as they were back in 1996. Of course, the expansion and revitalization of State St/Chauncey Hill is a perfect location. But that's not what has sustained longevity for Mad Mushroom. Dave Sommers and his staff take pride in their business which keeps college kids and us nostalgic old folks happy. That's the bottom line. The atmosphere in the restaurant was outstanding, the service was terrific and the food (vegan pizzas too) lived up to every bit of expectation. Well done Mad Mushroom.

Pizza was really good and the lunch special was crazy cheap. Two slices of pizza and a drink for $6.99.

Great cheesesticks--which are basically a pizza in and of themselves with the types of ingredients you can place on them.

Pizza and cheese sticks were both good. Not the best pizza ever, but better than most of the national chain options.

The Eleventh House seemed like the perfect stop for elevenses, because they are a coffee shop that also sells sandwiches (bagel sandwiches). The food menu consists of basically just bagels and bagel sandwiches, but that's fine, because The Eleventh House makes a great bagel sandwich. They also offer random little nibbly things, like hard-boiled eggs with dijon mustard, kimchi, citrus slices and "half of an avocado with a crazy amount of Old Bay," which I'm going to have to try to make at home sometime. Some of their sandwiches have exciting things in them, like pickled daikon, burnt pimento cheese (why does that sound so appealing?) and onion jam. I opted to keep my lunch rooted in the quotidian, so I got a Ranch BLT (bacon, iceberg lettuce, tomato, avocado, ranch seasoning, Kewpie mayonnaise) and the Turkey & Havarti, which is mostly just that. Maybe my choices were a little basic, but sometimes the classics are where it's at. These sandwiches were very tasty! The coffee shop / restaurant feels very open, with natural light coming through a skylight window and plants everywhere. It's a nice place to sit and chill for a while. When you dine in, they give you a number on a tarot card to place at your table. My tarot card was the Three of Wands, which I've learned represents the threshold of adventure, a call to leave your comfort zone to seek enlightenment in the world. (And, perhaps, an invitation to live deliciously?) How appropriate.

But I was visiting West Lafayette, and it was morning, and I was feeling a little "under the weather," as my Polish grandmother would say when she went too hard on the Bud Lites the night before. So breakfast at Triple XXX it was, because I could walk there from the Purdue campus, and this restaurant is a West Lafayette institution. I got the Triple XXX Breakfast Special: two over-medium eggs, bacon, fried potatoes and wheat toast. And it was good, you know? It was simple and hearty. I especially liked the fried potatoes. But what really took it over the top is when my server, who was incredibly friendly, told me that she could bring me some root beer jelly to go along with my wheat toast. Record scratch. Say what, lady? Root beer jelly? Yes, Triple XXX makes their own root beer jelly, and they also sell it by the jar. (I bought a jar.) They are famous for their root beer, which is sold nationwide, so I guess it makes sense that they would also make root beer jelly. It tastes exactly the way you would think it would. It tastes like root beer! It's delicious. The seating at this restaurant is interesting: All of the seats are bar seats, and they face the middle of the kitchen. There were no tables or booths that I saw, unless you wanted to go outside and sit at one of the picnic tables on the patio. I liked this seating setup, because I could watch the action happen before my very eyes. The black coffee was very good. It better be, at a place like this! This is the kind of greasy spoon restaurant where old timers stay a while with a cup of coffee and a newspaper. (There were three such people doing something like that when I visited, as a matter of fact.) It's just a comfortable part of the West Lafayette community.

My wife is a fan of the peanut butter on the burger, and we both like the bun used. We both got root beer, which is a step above all other root beers I have tasted, which also probably has to do with quality ingredients. I am a fan of Triple XXX, and so is my wife.
