Some of the worst customer service I have ever seen by a Marriott property. The front desk lady could not have been more rude. After one night of a 3 night stay we decided to switch hotels to the Grand Bohemian. Seems easy enough as a Bonvoy elite member. However after calling around 11am to notify we would be checking out the front desk lady refused to refund our points for the 2nd night. She said she could refund them but chose not to. We also had water pressure issues with the shower where the hot water was intermittent. The TV did not work upon check in. Marriott has always had great customer service everywhere I travel. Not at the Hotel Bella Grace. Too many other options in Charleston to stay. Don't waste your money or points here. Updated 11/9. First of all I am the most forgiving traveler you can imagine. I'm also a titanium elite rewards member. I have no sense how this hotel gained Marriotts consideration to be part of the brand. If you have kids or are traveling on points the front desk will treat you like garbage , (mind you a 2 night stay is 100k). Here are the concerns: the ice machine is a small cooler behind the front desk. Unheard of right? There is no place to sit within the lobby, no trash cans inside or out. There excuse is Covid for nearly everything. Our room door would not close all the way, on our last evening I decided to ask for another room. This was met with a no. No offer to accommodate and just an excuse they were aware it was a problem but unwilling to accommodate our safety concerns with our children. The front desk is rude, pretentious for no reason. This is a C level property that falsely believes they are a Ritz Carlton. You can do much better. Stay anywhere but here. read more

Nice and clean but very blah atmosphere. No lobby or lounge. Although there is a wonderful bar next door! Beds are super comfortable and rooms are well furnished but shower was lacking - not great water pressure and shower door kept slamming shut. Liked the coffee maker. read more

Lairs, cheaters, and bed bugs. Oh my! If I could give this hotel no stars I would. Do not let the pretty decor fool you. This hotel is awful and the staff is incredibly rude. Let me start off my emphasizing my new husband and I were here on our honeymoon. This was our third stop on our trip and our entire trip our stay was covered by Marriott points. The front desk took our card for incidentals like any hotel does and we thought nothing more of it. Then at 4 am the next day I get an alert on my phone asking if I authorized a purchase to "residence inn". Since I was not staying at a residence inn I panicked when I saw two charges totaling $640 were put on my card. A couple hours later I called down to the front desk to inquire. The front desk said that the night audit made a mistake and instead of using points they charged us for the room but not to worry because it was being reversed. I was fine with this explanation but reached out to my husbands aunt who booked us the room just to let us know. They ended up talking to Robin who is the general manager and she explained it was for incidentals. I have never heard of a hotel holding $640 for a three day stay. My husbands aunt told us to be on the lookout for a call from Robin within the hour. This was around noon and by 9 am the next day Robin still had not called. That morning I checked my bank statements to see that the hotel had again charged me two separate times. The charges for a "free" hotel stay was now up to $1100. As a newly married young couple a $1100 charge is a big deal so we went down to the front desk and spoke to Hunter. Hunter told us that it was standard Marriott procedure to hold the full amount when staying using points. He was very rude and did not care at all and essentially blew us off. He gave us an attitude while removing my credit card from the reservation when I asked to ensure that I would not have any more random charges on my card. At this point I had no faith in the staff at the hotel so I called Marriott corporate and explained the situation. They said under no circumstances was this procedure and at most the hold for incidentals would be $75 per night. They were very concerned about what was happening at this property and created an urgent case for investigation. My husbands aunt once again reached out to Robin and she called me back finally. Robin once again told me it was standard procedure to hold the full amount and said she was reaching out to her merchant to get the charges dropped. This was her first lie as she did not know corporate already told me it was against their procedure. She then spoke to my credit card company on the phone and tried to claim to them that she had dropped the charges the day before and removed my card from the system. This was lie number two because apparently she didn't get the memo that I had been charged an additional $500 that morning. My credit card company explained that the charges were not dropped yet because if they had they would instantly see it. I decided at that point to just drop it because the hotel had already ruined my honeymoon and I wanted to enjoy my day. I thought that would be the end of problems with the hotel but I was very wrong. That evening my husband went to take a shower and there was no hot water so he called down to the front desk. The front desk girl said maintenance had gone home for the night and to suck it up. She was very rude and did not care at all. When I went to take a shower the next morning the hot water still did not work. Finally, the icing on the cake, as we were packing up to finally leave the hell that is the hotel Bella grace I noticed a bunch of bites on my ankles, legs, and hands. So sweet of the hotel to give us bed bugs as a honeymoon present. Please do not waste your money here. read more

What a disappointment! And that's an understatement. I am a local who booked a room at the Bella Grace for an overnight stay for our anniversary. The room was astronomically expensive. And, yes, I had a choice but I was planning a getaway and the location worked. I've walked past this hotel many times and it always intrigued me. I expect to pay this amount in NYC but not CHS. For the price I paid, I at least expect a professional welcome and greeting with explanation of amenities (note to all: there are few to none except for a convenience store ala a Marriott Courtyard) The staff perked up when we walked into the lobby but the woman who checked us in was wearing an Adidas sweatshirt!! We had to ask about parking. No robes in the room, no lounge area (in fact no seating at all in the lobby) tired towels, no "Welcome" brochure in the room and flimsy sheets. Marriott Corp,, you should be embarassed. The 5 star reviews you see here, I honestly believe they are written by PR consultants. If you want to sell yourself as an urban efficiency in Charleston, that would be accurate. But it's criminal to charge $900 for one night for such a bare bones facility. read more

Bella Grace is a great little boutique hotel within walking distance to King Street and the top sights of Charleston. The hotel is fresh and modern having just opened a year ago. Rooms have small kitchenettes with a little stove, fridge and even dishwasher in case you want to eat in. There's a clean, well-appointed fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment including a brand new Concept2 rowing machine (an amazing find for our rowing family!) and a large window providing natural light. Buffet breakfast is included with your stay and is provided by the oyster bar restaurant steps away from the hotel (no, no oysters with the breakfast!) The reception team was very friendly and helpful with tour info and restaurant suggestions. We're so glad we found this gem and would happily stay there again! read more

Great stay in Charleston, SC. Surprise for me as this Hotel Bella Grace is a Residence Inn with a pop! You will not believe it. Very comfortable, quiet and all the things I like in a Hotel work and family. I can see bringing my family here as well because it has a kitchen, desk, couch, etc. A lot packed in one room and still maintains space and luxury. Very surprising for me to find such a cool, quaint Hotel that is brand new and all that comes with a brand new Hotel. Most hotels I have stayed in while in Charleston are weathered I would say. I stay out approximately 60 nights a year across the USA and primarily at Hyatt's and Marriotts and I have to say this Hotel has met all my needs and then some. read more

I flew to Charleston just to eat some great seafood for a couple of days. I stayed at the Bella Grace hotel on Calhoun Street. I decided to stay here because it is in the historic district and close to some great restaurants. This is a Marriott boutique hotel and considering that I am a Life Time Titanium member with Marriott I assumed this would be a great experience. Sorry, but my assumptions were wrong. The Bella Grace hotel offers nothing in the way of accommodations, even for Elite Marriott members. There is no concierge services, in fact nothing was offered at check in. This hotel seems to want to use COVID as an explanation for the lack of service. I ask for my room to be cleaned and was told that "because of COVID, we only clean every 4 days". Really, I stay in Marriott over 200 times a year and I have never heard of such an excuse. Here is my advice, there is a Courtyard up the street, I am sure it offers better service and probably at a lower cost! I would never stay at this hotel again. read more

Long time Marriott rewards member travel with work ALOT.... I had a super bad taste in my mouth (literally) left from Sandusky Ohio trip and the recent terrible customer service I have received from Marriott hotels as a result. I followed through with this trip because, well... I had it booked and forgot to cancel it... and I am so happy I did! The staff (Stephanie and Chris) at the desk along with the Valet and everyone we met were over the top accommodating. The rooms were brilliant, clean and comfy. Everyone here is smiling! The shower and even the toiletries were exhilarating. Breakfast was DELICIOUS! Coffee fresh, and eggs made to order, happy atmosphere. REDEMPTION for Marriott.... maybe it's a Southern thing? Anyways, the hotels restaurant is a historic home (I wont ruin the surprise) SUPER cool area of town convenient to everything. Wonderful experience. Cannot WAIT to go back! Thank you Stephanie (YOU are an amazing manager if you aren't a manager, you should be) let me tell you what you did right: you smiled, you listened, you responded appropriately, and when the phone rang, you looked at me and said "is it ok if I answer this" YES because you asked so nicely, and I was so enthralled with the decor and the ambiance of this place you can answer a thousand calls haha I also know if I were to say "no I am exhausted from the flight, and need to go to bed" you wouldn't have answered that phone. Chris you SMILED that dazzling smile, and allowed me to sleep in a few more minutes (late check out) and you didn't forget my extra shampoo :) Thank you thank you... for making me and my family feel special, and valued. We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Bella Grace. As you can see in the photos and as other's have said, the finishings were lovely and one of the most nicely decorated hotels I've ever stayed in. I guess it helps that it is brand new :-) There is a lovely restored home next door for happy hour, breakfast and relaxing. All of the staff from front desk to cleaning were very nice as well. The manager informed us, it is a "soft brand" Marriott, so you can use and earn points but they don't have to adhere to any of the corporate "blah-ness" that a full branded Marriott does - in other words don't let the Marriott part fool you, this is a boutique hotel in the truest sense. A must stay in Charleston. Built in 1800's/2017 the hotel itself was completed in 2017. Connected to it is a beautiful old home from the 1800's that serves as breakfast and drinks in the evening meeting place. When I say complementary breakfast don't think Holiday Inn be prepared for one of the best omelets you will ever eat. Eggs or ordered to cook anyway you want them, biscuits, gravy, sausage, fruit, pastries etc. The staff is what you would expect from a nice hotel. Very helpful and nice. Valet parking is $30 a day but worth it in Charleston. We ubered everywhere for about $6. The rooms are nicely appointed and very modern. Would love to have some of the design in my home. We stayed in the King/kitchen suite and could easily live here for a few weeks. Location is perfect for walking to King St and about a half block from Marion Square. We had a great morning walk around the block and visited some beautiful old buildings. It really makes you feel like your back in the 1800's. I do not think they have more than 60 rooms so iTs very quiet. read more

My husband and I had the pleasure of spending one night at the Hotel Bella Grace on our way to Parents weekend at USC. Honestly, I feel ruined for other hotels. We were greeted by a friendly valet and two beautiful, knowledgeable and friendly employees working at the front desk. The hotel lobby is beautifully decorated and welcoming- even the public restroom is beautiful. Our room was so beautifully appointed. Room has a full size refrigerator and convenience kitchen. Bed was comfortable and linens soft. Bathroom even has a white bath rug (risky in a hotel but pretty) Location is great. Easy walk to King Street and the french quarter. Our only complaint was we didn't have longer to stay but we will be back! Recommend 100%! read more

Overall bad experience. We stayed in the penthouse and had booked the hotel as a Midway stop on our way back from a Disney vacation. Check-in started off good with a wonderful Valet, he was great and very helpful. Then, we went inside and the person at the desk was where things went south. I believe his name was Chris. His whole attitude was as if he was annoyed by us. It was as if we were interrupting something far more important that he had to do. He proceeded to check us in with thinly veiled contempt. We just ignored it and went up to the room. There we were disappointed again by a "penthouse suite" that was barely bigger than a standard hotel room. The decor and such was just fancied up holiday inn fare and the only redeeming quality was the rooftop deck. Further dealings with Chris downstairs proved to be just as much "fun" as check-in with him treating me like dirt on his shoe. Again, that evening's valet was still very helpful and nice when I needed to go out to the car for a couple of forgotten items. The next morning, check-out was fine since Amanda and the morning valet were both super helpful. Overall we we disappointed by the hotel and the service. (With the exception of Amanda and both Valets). We skipped the complimentary breakfast because we did not want another disappointment. We most certainly will not be back and will be telling everyone to stay away. read more

Unfortunately the artwork in this hotel is as impressive as it gets. The service, the cleanliness, the amenities in the management are all lackluster and underwhelming. The lack of service this hotel provides is poor. The rooms have a very odd lighting system that nobody introduces you to or explains that they will shut off when they overheat. The Bellman will pull up your car but not help you load any of your bags. Housekeeping will not clean your room appropriately or maintain basic sanitation guidelines. If you have any special requests don't plan on any of them being met. My husband has a allergy to feather based pillows when we asked for a synthetic pillow they only had one in the entire hotel available. They give you a very thin blanket and do not have any additional's should you want to stay warm. And they are included breakfast is not in the hotel but across the street in an oyster house, so plan on smelling fish during your entire breakfast experience. Plan on being awoke at 1 AM when the garage below your room decides to start power washing cars and concrete. When all of these issues were brought to the managers attention nothing was done. No compensation. No explanation. read more
