Moxy is a cute lil hotel in Downtown Charleston. Best described as a budget boutique-style hotels, this space is truly that. A bit hidden in plain sight, this hotel is right off of Meeting St. Thankfully, they have a pink "Moxy" sign so that it's easier to spot. Since it's right off the road, they have a little inlet for Ubers and Lyfts to go through to pick up and drop off guests. Or they can do it right off the street if it isn't too busy. When you walk into the first lobby, its connected to the Starbucks, which is convenient if you're looking for food and bev. The check-in is on the sixth floor and is right off the elevator. That check-in area was super cute and the staff was friendly. My room was clean and definitely small, which is part of the budget aspect. Although it was small, it was efficient with a nice size bed, a small bedside table (not a desk since there's no chair), and a good size bathroom. They are definitely efficient with space so this is a great hotel if you plan on just sleeping and going out. A great option for a hotel and pretty near the downtown area. read more

Pros: Cool, trendy decor. Beautiful mural outside. Bar and lounge area with the podcast studio and games was beautiful and decorated so cool. Starbucks on the bottom floor. Bar staff were super nice. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was nice with a large shower. Cons: Next to a homeless shelter. Not a good place to walk at night. Not really within walking distance of anything unless you want to walk 40 minutes there and 40 minutes back. $35 mandatory valet parking charge for every day and they park your car in an unsecured lot by the homeless shelter. AC wasn't adjustable; it was 76 in our room during the day and 73 at night and that's only if we kept the blackout blinds down to keep it cool. We asked the front desk for a fan and they had none for guests. There is zero storage. Very small room. The blackout blinds actually had several holes in them and were tattered and torn. Hand prints on the walls in the bathroom. They also lost our hold card for incidentals information even though we had a $60 hold on our account we could show them so we had to give the card again, which made my husband uneasy. read more

Absolutely loved staying here! The rooms were cozy but comfy, I liked that the two beds faced each other actually and all the hooks on the walls was a genius idea! The bathroom and shower was large and very well lit. One of the best hotel bathrooms by far. When I forgot my toothbrush they let me know each floor has a "stash" locker w items frequently forgotten and so I was able to get one there super easily. LOVED that there is a Starbucks on the main entry level!! This hotel draws in a lot of travelers who are working while vacationing or traveling for work so it was nice to set up a laptop in the cafe bar area during the daytime and even made a couple new friends in the bar area at night too! The rooftop is super fun and so spacious. The gym was nice too if you want to squeeze in a workout like I did. Literally my only complaint was that the entire staff seemed apathetic and cold - except for one women at the front desk who was super helpful warm and friendly. And each of the three mornings although I put the do not disturb sign on door, the maid STILL knocked at 7-8am. BOTH times I verbally told her no thank you I don't need service and pointed to door sign. And the third morning opened up my door and started coming in!!! I truly hope management addresses this issue.i would have given 5 stars if this was not the case every morning... read more

Centrally located hotel that is within a mile of many hits of Charleston. The staff at the front desk are very friendly and the lobby on the 6th floor is both bustling and calm. Never have not seen visitors at the bar. The room was welcoming and a quiet reprieve to get some sleep. However, areas of the room's floor were a little sticky. The parking situation/ride share can be a little tricky. There is an onsite parking garage with limited parking that is valet only. Big cars would not be able to fit in this garage! read more

NOT a dog-friendly hotel. They accept dogs, and advertise that they give you a "Moxy" bowl upon arrival (which didn't happen), but there is not a place for dogs to use the restroom except across the four lanes of traffic - across the street. Even there, I don't see this as a very safe area. Just not at all worth the price. We chose the corner room for a view - room was 79 degrees when we entered & we immediately dropped the blackout shades to cool the room. Even after 2 full days of ac going, room never cooled to under 75. There is no fridge or microwave or even a coffee maker in the room. There are two under-the-bed drawers - you're expects to use the 15+ peg/hooks instead. "Desk" is a fold-down all table that rests at an angle. read more

Stayed here for a work trip and the I will say the place is very quirky. It's nice the Starbucks is on the first floor. It's weird that check in is on the 6th floor and the rooms are all below that. Even more strange was that our two queen bed room was foot to foot. Like one huge bed. See picture. Also that they have a stash closet on each floor to get things you may need while staying. The location is on the fringe of sketch and definitely wouldn't walk around at night but overall a nice place just a little far from the action. read more

Such a welcome addition to Downtown Charleston and situated so close to the nightlife. This modern hotel has all of the upscale furnishings you'd like complete with the best view of Charleston you'll find. The rooftop is the crown jewel of The Moxy complete with awesome lounge chairs and tables. It's connected to an elegant bar that hosts a game room with beautiful artwork all over. Much of the hotel has artwork that showcases the beauty and history of Charleston and it makes you feel connected to the city. The rooms are a tad bit on the smaller side, but they do a good job of maximizing storage space while giving you a large bed and amenities like a full size bathroom. I loved my stay here and they make it easy to want to come back! Also, they have a Starbucks to accommodate your caffeine needs. read more

I'm gonna give it 5, but my husband might give it less due to the barking dogs situation. It's a pet friendly hotel, so many fur babies have checked in. It gets loud. I wear earplugs at night, so I can deal with it. It's a cool place. Neat decor. Pleasant staff. You go up to the 6th floor to check in. We were greeted with a welcome drink, which we enjoyed on the spacious patio. We enjoyed the view very much. Comfy bed. My pillow was kinda flat. Great shower!! Overall, the hotel had a nice, modern décor. However, the check-in area was extremely small, located on the 6th floor, and connected to the bar. This made it mildly inconvenient to haul luggage on and off the elevator during check-in. Fortunately, there was no line, but I can imagine it becoming an issue during busy times, with guests queuing in front of the elevator with their bags. The hotel is situated in North Charleston, about a mile and a half from most of the key attractions. This location was also somewhat inconvenient--it was just far enough to make walking a hassle but felt too close to justify an Uber. The room was clean but incredibly small. There wasn't a closet--just a few hooks on the walls. It included a small fold-out desk and a folding chair that hung from one of the hooks. There was no refrigerator or ice machine available. The bathroom, however, was quite nice. At a lower rate, I probably could have overlooked the cramped quarters and justified the value. Unfortunately, we paid over $500 (including taxes and fees), which left me feeling disappointed and somewhat ripped off. The property and room simply didn't justify that price. On a positive note, the bartenders and staff were very friendly and helpful. read more

Let's first start by saying this is probably a great hotel for a VERY young, loves to party crowd. For someone who doesn't fit that criteria, choose another place. If you live for free drink tokens when you walk into a place, this hotel is for you. Want to sleep, relax and rest? Not for you. The hotel blasts music until 11 pm every night. We quite literally could not sleep until it shut off. The rooms are not quiet whatsoever, so if someone is shutting their door or waking down your hall, you'll know. Incredibly, and I mean incredibly overpriced for what it is. As for the room itself, don't expect a closet, dressers or even shelves to hold your clothes. There are simply hooks on the walls for you to hang everything and a drawer that broke under the bed. Bedding? Nope. It's a quilt thinner than a looseleaf sheet of paper. Light? Aka strobe lights- the fire alarm flashes in the room like someone's taking a picture of you in bed. Constantly. All night. Bathroom? Decent, but no working fan switch, so essentially a steam room. Air? 10/10 until the fan in the AC started making a noise. Location? You can stand at your window and look at the view of the homeless so I think that says enough. However, less than a mile from Kings Street so walking distance to a lot. Rooftop? 10/10 with games and great community area. Valet? An absolute joke. $35 a day for them to not use their own garage and instead use the street parking out back, where you can park yourself for free.... So, all in all, will not be coming back and it is incredibly different from most Mariotts I've stayed in. read more

Visited the Rooftop Bar Moxy. Very trendy and relaxing space. Friday, late afternoon into the evening. They offer a full bar with some bites and Flatbreads to eat. I'll eat before I visit next time. They have board games behind the check-in desk that you can play. There is also a ping pong table that doubles as a place to sit. There are a few cabana style seating areas, soft patio seating, bar top seating in one corner overlooking the city, & heated lamps & fireplaces for cool evenings like we had. Having drinks with a view of the Charleston skyline & this relaxing setting made for a great start to the weekend. read more

So the layout is really weird. You need to walk into the building through the "wrong way" of the valet parking garage area. Not the most well thought out design. They asked us what time we would like to check in, so we said 12pm. We arrived exactly at 12pm and they tell us they overbooked and we couldn't check in until 2pm. One positive, it is a clean hotel, even if the surrounding streets are littered with trash and dog waste. We travel a lot and I can honestly say I wouldn't stay at a Moxy again. read more

What a very cool hotel within walking distance to the King Street area. Very European feeling style layout with awesome public spaces (all dog friendly). Rooms on the small side but have everything you need with comfy mattresses and spacious bathroom. Rooms seem to be soundproof. Staff was super friendly. I am unsure how this hotel has good ratings. Location is ABSOLUTELY NOT "downtown" This area looks unsafe and run down. We originally booked this place thinking the location would be doable for walking downtown-- nope. The rooms are tiny! No closets, NO PLACE TO SIT, you must hang clothes on pegs on the walls,etc. This hotel was entirely too expensive having no basic accommodations. Walls are paper thin, bed sheets are paper thin, pillows are pitiful!!!!!!!, no real bathroom door- only a rolling door with a giant crack in it. I could hear the person in the next room closing their curtains and sneezing. Not kidding. Hallways are tiny and claustrophobic!!! Feels like I am staying on a cruise ship but without any nice views outside. I was worried about my car being ransacked by valet after reading previous reviews (in depth) AFTER check-in. Valet is $35 per day. Check in/ out was on the sixth floor?? This hotel is new, but that is the only pro I have to mention. Spend more $ for a nice and FEASIBLE hotel. I like hanging up my clothes and storing my suitcase. This has minimal furniture, really not even a place to eat in the room. Also we had two double beds facing each other. Glad I was only sharing a room with my daughter- we found it funny. But if I was sharing a room with anyone else it would have been awkward. read more

Been to a few moxys and this one is interesting because the check in is like in the middle of the buildings. Moxys are always clean, comfortable and I can see they're expanding to a ton of cities. Pros: free drink chip. Affordable. In major metropolitan areas Only con of this location was its seemingly the bright spot in a sour part of town. My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the moxy the last few nights and we had such an amazing experience! The hotel is BEAUTIFUL! They have a beautiful rooftop and the staff provide top notch service all around. From the front desk attendants, to the valet workers, to the bartenders and even the cleaning crew!! Our room was very cute and boutique like. I really loved that all towels and such are on the top floor for guests to take as needed. Also having a Starbucks IN the hotel was a HUGE perk!!! The rooftop was so beautiful too. We most definitely will be staying at the moxy next time we're in CHS and anywhere that Moxy's are located! Thanks for a wonderful experience! read more

Strangest hotel experience ever. Checking in feels more like signing in to a coed dormitory than a Marriott hotel. The rooms are small and feel like the cabins on a Soviet cruise ship. There is no furniture in the rooms, just pegs on the wall. Staff is apathetic. Odd sounds all night long and some sort of flashing device mounted to the ceiling of our room. For almost $300 a night, I shouldn't feel like I'm in a youth hostel. I would never stay here again. This does not feel like a Marriott property. We are Gold Elite members and if this room was an upgrade, I'd hate to see the other one. read more

This is an extremely instagramable hotel with an amazing rooftop and living spaces (podcast room, ping pong tables, cabanas etc). Downside are the rooms are small (college dorm room style). They also have the best bartender in town (Joel) who also sets the mood with his own curated playlist playing in the bar. read more

Unfortunately this new hotel only offers a cool bar lounge and rooftop area. The location is up and coming but not yet there so a bit sketchy after dark. The staff, disinterested. The GM, Howard, disinterested. The rooms have paper thin walls to the point you can hear (and participate if you chose) in a full conversation with the adjoining room. You can also hear the tone and vibration of a cell phone alarm in the next room. Recap, I arrived to discover their elevators had broken down. Note, you enter at street level and front desk check in is located on the 6th floor. I was directed to either walk 6 flights with luggage or wait until they fixed the elevator (time undetermined). Wouldn't you assume, they would offer assistance carrying two pieces of luggage to the 6th floor? They did not. Once arriving to the front desk, I was greeted by an unsmiling stare as if I knew the information drill. Naturally, she did not acknowledge the elevator situation. Once I checked in, I was directed to carry my luggage down 3 flights of stairs to my room. Again, no offer of assistance. As I mentioned, the walls are paper thin. The hall noise is to be expected but I certainly did not expect to be awakened at 7:30 am to a conversation (normal level) in the next room. I honestly can tell you the names of the strangers and what they did the previous evening. The second morning, I was awakened by my other neighbor's cell phone alarm- vibrating and ringing at 6:30 am. I spoke with Howard, General Manager while checking out regarding my experience of spending two sleepless nights at this hotel. He told me he had never encountered similar complaints but would refund my points (Lifetime Marriott Member). Fast forward 3 weeks, no refund. So, I called and left a message on Howard's voicemail. Again, no response for 3 days. I finally called again and spoke directly to Howard. He said their systems may not always work properly. The following day my account was credited points.. but not even enough to cover one evening at this place. read more

Well, where to begin. Its a new building. Clean. Very over designed and unfortunately uncomfortable. Form doesn't follow function. Everything seems to be picked out by an FIT design grad student who has never stayed in a hotel. And designed for that FIT design grad student. The corner room I am staying in is very tiny. The bathroom takes up one third of the room. The shower takes up three quarters of the bathroom. The flat screen TV takes up an entire wall. Too bad there are no batteries in the handheld. The desk has no chair, oh but I can sit on the luggage rack and use the desk? Thank you. No closet but plenty of hooks to hang nice things like designer ironing boards and different color whatever. There is a nice flashlight type lantern by my bed. Again, no batteries. The phone is a pretty orange and green. My corner room overlooks a delivery truck parking lot facing one direction and an empty lot in the other direction. In the distance is some kind of affordable housing project overrun by seemingly a homeless population. The location of the hotel is not positive. There is no real restaurant. They only serve small bites. Flat breads? The Moxey takes a hands off approach to hospitality. Its a hotel for traveling students and I am not one. Then there is the issue of the entrance being on the ground floor but check in is on the sixth floor...so if you are booked into the second floor you go up and down before you enter your room. And the price is a bit high...well... on the positive the valet parking is excellent and the room is warm when it is cold outside. read more

This is one of the worst Marriott experiences I have ever had.... And I spend more time at Marriott properties than most humans do. They were unfriendly when we checked in.... And then due to a health issue... I talked with the front desk before going out for the evening... about what I needed. They assured me, no problem. Well...it is a problem. And now st 12 midnight, I will not be sleeping tonight.... Due to the accommodation they could not make.... Which makes my staying here pointless. I am so disappointed in Marriott, and I have been such a loyal member. I will never come back to this brand ( Moxy). And questioning my loyalty to Marriott. read more

Do not get swayed by any negative reviews. Those are written by people who should have never booked this type of hotel to begin with. This is one of my favorite places I've stayed. I wouldn't recommend it if you are an older couple who is looking for luxury and space but if you are wanting a fun vibrant place to stay that just makes sense this is the place for you! The concept eliminates several issues I have with traditional hotel stays. For example, instead of calling the front desk for towels, pillows, etc. you can just visit the locker in the hall that has all the amenities you would require. I would say if you are one that likes a little background noise to sleep use a sound machine app and you'll be just fine. People complain about the area but everyone is very friendly outside of the hotel. The valet is $35 and recommended but just leave your car here and Uber downtown for like $9. The Staff is friendly, Starbucks is located inside the hotel and the views from the bar are also great! 10/10 we will be staying here again and again on our visits up from Florida!!! read more
