My daughter and I travelled to Charleston to visit The College of Charleston and the International African American museum. Our stay at The Bennett was a dream! We were able to check in very early because we had a 6am flight. Thank you!!!! I loved how friendly and accommodating everyone was: from the front desk receptionists, to the concierge, to the pool attendant- everyone made us feel welcome. Our room was beautiful, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious (my daughter particularly loved the tub). Housekeeping was meticulous! Hotel Bennett is the definition of luxury and class. As soon as you arrive, you are pampered. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The rooms are beautifully decorated and clean. While staying at this amazing hotel, my husband and I ate at both Gabrielle and La Pâtisserie. I ordered the scallops at Gabrielle. They were incredible. At La Pâtisserie, I ordered a ham and cheese croissant and it was one of the best things I have ever eaten. My husband and I were also part of the King's Club, while we were staying. This allowed us into a private area where we could have food and drinks throughout the day. The staff in the King's Club were fantastic and attentive. Another thing that really stood out to me was that every employee made sure to make recommendations for things to do and places to eat in Charleston. Shout out to Drew at the front desk and Brenna the concierge - they were both so kind and helpful. Between the beauty of this place, the views, the food, the staff, and the proximity to all things fun, we will certainly be staying at Hotel Bennett again. Side note- I saw a negative review concerning valet. The person wrote that valet was a "requirement." That statement is false. We were told before we arrived that we could use several parking garages in the area. However, we ended up using valet services and had a fabulous experience. The hotel itself is right in the middle of downtown, next to a large park, and in an overall convenient location. The people working there were always helpful and wanting to assist. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because we are rewards members and were told we would get an upgraded Room. When we got there, they denied saying they couldn't do that. Room service was quite convenient and not too bad time wise. Just know that like all room service there is a ridiculous charge. Our breakfast was $22 and the delivery fees were $20. Stayed here for the first time on my first vacation during the pandemic. I was pleasantly surprised at the safety precautions that the hotel was taking - as I had no idea what to expect. The staff was courteous, the hotel was clean and hand sanitizer was available everywhere. I wish we could have enjoyed all the amentities during our stay, yet we didn't have time. The hotel is in a great location for walking to restaurants and retail - we were able to avoid renting a car for our weekend because everything was so accessible. One a side note, some of the decor was interesting. Our corner room was filled with bookshelves - with books in them. I'm not sure that the volume of shelving, or literature, is necessary. I was a bit shocked by some of the paintings in the main area... they lacked any diversity. read more

The pool is TINY and has VERY limited seating to begin with, but then they have half of the pool deck area blocked off for exorbitantly overpriced cabanas. it basically leaves 10-12 lounge chairs for the entire clientele of the hotel to use, which is absurd. the deck area outside has cheap, broken umbrellas that you have to hold or risk being impaled, and zero service at the tables. Located in the heart of downtown Charleston, the hotel gives off a historic appeal. From the lobby to the decor, it is all beautiful. The rooms are very spacious, robes and slippers await you, and you will have a beautiful view of the city. There are several on site bars, a restaurant and a cafe. The spa was closed due to COVID. My only complaint would be the rooftop pool. It is a lot smaller than one would expect given the size of the hotel. There were only 6 lounge chairs, so basically 3 couples were able to secure seating. They do have cabanas to rent, a total of 6 with two lounge chairs each. The pool opens at 8am, we arrived at 9 and had no seating. By 1030, the pool was packed and everyone was just placing their items anywhere they could find open space. Overall, our stay was nice and I would like to try and stay here after this pandemic is over with. read more

This is a five star hotel with all The amenities that you could dream of. The lobby is classy and there are a lobby bar and rooftop bar for relaxing cocktails. The restaurant is phenomenal I recommend the shrimp but you can't go wrong with anything you order. The staff makes you feel like family and will guarantee a five-star stay. People of Color Beware - Racism Lives Here First time to Charleston and Hotel Bennet, and it would have been a great experience except for the terrible mistreatment on one particular evening. As my boyfriend and I took a peak into the dining room, an employee of the hotel (1) followed us, (2) yelled at us from across the lounge area (which made everyone else look at us like we'd done something wrong), (3) accusatorially asked if we were lost because "some people" get lost, (4) as soon as we went outside for some air, this employee (who was sitting at the bar chatting) again followed us outside and removed the only remaining seat cushions so we could not use them, and (5) she shut the only open door connecting the patio to the bar/lounge area. If you could have heard her tone...at best she treated us poorly and at worse she treated us discriminatorily (I was the only black person in the area at the time). This was discrimination to a T - that or the employee just decided to mistreat me and my boyfriend specifically. Either way, it was targeted. This employee ruined our stay. The hotel then promised to comp my second night because these events, and later retracted the offer. I'm so upset, and I feel like I just paid a 5-star hotel to treat me like trash. Had this particular employee not mistreated us, and had the hotel not retracted the offer to comp one evening, I would have given this more stars. But I got the message loud and clear from the employee - I was not welcome here. Well, I would welcome my money back. Update: Hotel has since refunded our stay. My wife and I had previously traveled to Charleston before staying at Hotel Bennett. Staying at Hotel Bennett was just like staying at home. This luxurious hotel made us feel like family from the very start. The valet was very courteous and timely each time we used them. The front desk and concierge were very easy to speak to, and were very accommodating to our family. Our room was beautiful and grand. We had plenty of room in our junior suite for our rambunctious two year old to run around and enough privacy at night for him to sleep in his crib -- which was available through the hotel -- and us to sleep in our comfortable bed. The TV's have basic cable but are also already wired for YouTube and Netflix. The lights, the shades are controlled through the TV as well -- it's pretty cool. The bathroom is gorgeous. It is very nice as it has a tub, great for giving a bath to a toddler. It also had a spacious shower, and a privacy toilet room. My wife and son went down to La Patissiere every morning for a coffee and pastry. The cafe is great! We also went Camellias a few times at night for a drink. Another great thing about Hotel Bennett is the ease and access to shops, restaurants, and activities on King Street. It is 10 minutes walking to the Market and it is a few moments from the Children's Museum, Halls Chophouse, and more. read more

A beautiful, luxurious hotel. We were strolling downtown and decided to check it out. The entry way is grand with two staircases on either side. The hotel is classic with contemporary touches. The staff is friendly. I asked the front desk agent about Camellias (the pink room/bar)--I really want to come back and check it out. She was super friendly and knowledgeable. We also checked out La Pâtisserie. I decided to get a French macaron--I wasn't too pleased with it. It was heavy and thick in consistency. I prefer lighter macarons. It is open and bright with large windows along two walls, letting in the natural light. The two ladies in the cafe were friendly and welcoming. I plan on coming back soon to grab a drink or for afternoon tea. read more

Gorgeous hotel and lobby with such friendly and warm welcoming staff. Kevin was our Bellman and he was awesome! So friendly and upbeat and endless energy. We stayed 6 days and the guy never slowed down and never stopped greeting. He is a true gem! Location is perfect on King St (high end shopping) with lovely park next to it (Marion Square). Beautiful room, we stayed in Deluxe Double Queen. Only one sink which isn't convenient when sharing a room with friend. Only other negative is there is no clock in the room and I realize there's alarms on the smart tv but when I wake in the middle of night I do not want to have to turn on tv to know what time it is. Clocks are cheap, every room should have a clock. Top tier Nespresso coffee maker in the room was an excellent touch. Enjoyed afternoon cocktails at the stunning Camellias, a girl's dream lounge designed with pink and florals and gorgeous chandelier. The signature cocktails were so good and bartender was so welcoming and friendly. Rooftop bar was very nice just small and it was too windy to sit outside but otherwise a great social gathering place. Third floor has a Piazza balcony that overlooks Marion Square and a great place for morning coffee or evening relaxation with friends. Attempted to meet with concierge several times and they were never at their desk when we tried so I sent email in attempt to get site seeing suggestions. After more than 24 hrs and still no response, I went to front desk to ask how best to contact concierge. Front desk seemed stunned that I hadn't received a response and she was very quick to escalate my issue. We then received an email with great suggestions from Katie (King's Club Concierge even though I hadn't paid to upgrade to King's Club). After Katie helped us we finally saw the actual concierge in lobby and he was an older gentleman that was the only person in hotel not wearing a mask which is offensive since hotel has a strict mask policy for Covid. I cannot stress enough how friendly and helpful everyone at this hotel is (except for lobby concierge). After a 5 night stay we were so sad to leave and we'll definitely miss all the friendly staff especially Kevin, he's Charleston's true treasure . read more

Wonderful! My husband and I stayed at Hotel Bennet recently for our wedding anniversary. The Staff was very kind and the hotel has spectacular views. The St. Mathews suite has a wrap around terrace and the skyline at night was the perfect backdrop for a special meal. The sunset was gorgeous and St. Mathews night or day is quite the view. The Kings Club was worth the upgrade, drinks and light fare during your stay. The servers were always helpful and welcomed you with a smile. The Kings Club is comfortable to sit around for a chat or grab a quick bite, they will even wrap things up to go. The rooftop pool was crowded at first but a kind couple offered to share their couch with us and soon after people began to leave and there were plenty of seats available. Patience is key around the pool if it seems crowded. Nice service poolside, and again great views of the city. read more

What an Instagram worthy hotel! This luxury hotel is chocked FULL of super attentive and polite staff. We were here on a business trip for quite a few nights and they were on top of it! The rooms are beautiful! A little tricky as everything is controlled by a remote (lights, blinds, curtains, etc). Once you got used to it, it was okay! Omg the BATHTUB. At first, you fall in love and can't WAIT to get into it. But then.... you do... and if you're not 5'10 or taller, you'll probably drown lol. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my bath. The only complaint I have is the room service menu. For a luxury hotel, it is VERY limited. And no dessert menu. Who doesn't have a dessert menu?! The hotel has a warm feel and is in the middle of kings street where there is nearby shopping and restaurants all over. We took over this space with a large group for an event and the food and service were 85% on point. Although the wait staff was inconsistent at the bar, we did have a few nights with really great service. The rooms are very clean, updated, and comfortable. We did come back to our room not being clean one day and had to ask for it to be serviced and also came back to our door being unlocked when they took our coffee tray away. I am still waiting for the hotel, after 3 phone calls and an email, to inform me if the jacket I left behind was found in my room. This has been frustrating, I am now wondering if it was taken when our hotel door wasn't closed all the way after one of the staff came in. There is a great champagne bar and hotel bar in the main area which is highly recommended, however there are a few key service pieces that had me remove a star. I have not stayed at the Hotel Bennett, but I wanted to compliment a member of their staff that was working at the front door on Wednesday night (October 19th). My mom and I were walking back late at night to our airbnb on King Street and had two men begin to follow us and I'm pretty certain if we had continued to walk something would have happened to us. We walked past the hotel and stood outside to call an Uber and not only did the hotel employee tell us we could wait inside in the warm to wait, but offered to wait outside to let us know when our Uber arrived. Had an amazing stay at the Hotel Bennett the other week. I'd compare the hotel to the Ritz Carlton brand with five star accommodations. We upgraded to the Club Level for $175 a night for two people. This gave us all day access from I think 7 am-9 pm and including all beverages of any kind (beer, wine and liquor), full breakfast, heavy lunch and appetizers for dinner. All food was delicious and the staff working the lounge were super friendly and very helpful. Our room was nicely decorated, the beds were super comfy and the bathroom was TO DIE FOR!! That soaking tub is every woman's dream. They also provided high-end toiletries and bath salts for the tub. While we didn't partake in the other outlets at the hotel, I'm sure they are pretty awesome too. The bell staff out front was super friendly and gave great recommendations for around town. If I ever come back to Charleston, I'd definitely stay here again. read more

From a concierge desk that often does NOT answer the phone, to Gabriella Restaurant that TWICE made us wait 25-30 min past the reservation time to get seated, to pocket doors in the rooms that don't really close properly, to to the private rooftop cabanas with built in cabinets that already look shabby even though the hotel is only two years old and a "King's Club" experience that somehow manages to feel "King's Club Light" compared to another hotel in town, a number of things about the hotel are not quite "five star." A terrific experience overall? Yes. At the overall level of sophistication/perfection of a couple of other five star venues in town? Not quite yet. read more

There were 2 issues and issues that I consider pretty bad specially for a 5 star hotel. 1) In my room 407 there was a constant noise every single evening. Sounded like a dog barking. Making it impossible for me to sleep the nights I was there. 2) the amenities (extra services) were abismal. I tried ordering room service on Sunday night and I attempted to get a hold of someone for 45+ minutes, no one answered. I called the front desk and they went over to get someone. The lady taking the order had no idea what was on the menu or what was available. Barely spoke English. It was really bad. Not only that but all the amenities the hotel offers were very subpar, don't know if it's for lack of staff or if it's a constant bad experience. read more

My wife and I went down this evening as guests at the hotel for a drink in the lobby bar. It was 10:40pm and the lounge area was 3/4 full. We asked to sit for a nightcap and were told by an extremely rude waitress that the bar area was closed. We assured her that we would have just one drink, but again was turned away despite guests in the lounge clearly having full cocktails in hand. It was extremely upsetting given a hotel of this status, and cost, could not accomodate guests at a still reasonable time. The lack of customer service was disturbing. Sure it's nice. Not what you pay for though. Stayed here and tried to order a pizza and even the simple task of getting dinner was a nightmare. The FIRST time my delivery arrived the fratty "door man" basically chased him down and asked "do you want to go?" In front of customers. The front desk wouldn't keep the food for me nor would they even call my room to let me know my dinner arrived?? They sent him back to the restaurant. The SECOND time my food arrived, I witnessed the door guy chasing down the delivery man again until he got to me. He was obviously trying to deliver food. Completely ridiculous behavior from the staff of this hotel. Then the front desk tells me it's protocol to not call guests when they're food arrives??
