Sure it's nice. Not what you pay for though. Stayed here and tried to order a pizza and even the simple task of getting dinner was a nightmare. The FIRST time my delivery arrived the fratty "door man" basically chased him down and asked "do you want to go?" In front of customers. The front desk wouldn't keep the food for me nor would they even call my room to let me know my dinner arrived?? They sent him back to the restaurant. The SECOND time my food arrived, I witnessed the door guy chasing down the delivery man again until he got to me. He was obviously trying to deliver food. Completely ridiculous behavior from the staff of this hotel. Then the front desk tells me it's protocol to not call guests when they're food arrives?? My wife and I went down this evening as guests at the hotel for a drink in the lobby bar. It was 10:40pm and the lounge area was 3/4 full. We asked to sit for a nightcap and were told by an extremely rude waitress that the bar area was closed. We assured her that we would have just one drink, but again was turned away despite guests in the lounge clearly having full cocktails in hand. It was extremely upsetting given a hotel of this status, and cost, could not accomodate guests at a still reasonable time. The lack of customer service was disturbing. We will not stay, or visit, the hotel again. read more

If I were coming to Charleston again I would stay here in a heartbeat. We were there last month and spent 5 nights. It was our first time traveling with a baby, and Hotel Bennett made it as seamless as possible. We had originally booked a single room, but were able to upgrade to a junior suite pretty easily for not much more cost. They provided a cot, blanket, and diaper genie which was very nice. They also cleaned out the minibar so we could use the whole fridge, and stocked our room with plenty of water bottles. The hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms were very clean. It's centrally located so we were able to walk everywhere. I loved getting coffee in the morning from La Patiserrie - they use La Colombe, which is the best! My husband frequented the bar at night and enjoyed it. I The only complaint is the gym is super tiny, and the elliptical didn't work. A small price to pay for an otherwise perfect stay. read more

What a gem! My 3 sisters and I drove to Charleston for a day trip then decided to stay overnight. We saw great reviews for this hotel and booked it on our way there. We called ahead to request early check in. Fortunately they were able to accommodate us. From the valet service to check in, staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is gorgeous: architecture, furnishings, decor, etc. The Gabrielle restaurant/ lounge has excellent food for lunch and dinner, la patisserie French bakery for light breakfast fare and coffee. Our room was beautiful with comfortable beds, large bathroom with private toilet area, shower and soaker tub. Very clean throughout entire hotel. The rooftop pool was warm water so it was pleasant getting right in. Staying here was the best part of our trip! The staff also highly contributes to the satisfaction of our experience. read more

During our last visit, we asked the concierge for a map, and he took the time to mark out a personalized walking tour for us! I really enjoy breakfast on their patio next to the park. If you are interested in Afternoon Tea at Camellias, you will need to book far in advance. Be sure to visit La Patisserie during your stay for delicious pastries or a quick bite. The staff was extremely kind. The place was clean. I have many positive thoughts about the hotel itself. I had the BEST TEA IVE EVER HAD EVER!!!! Their unsweetened tea changed my life. I am still craving it two days later. Unreal. After eating in the restaurant twice, I had one good experience and one poor experience. My star deduction is due to the fact that the bathroom door would not close in the room. That was irritating. Also, the food at the restaurant was sub par. **the servers were amazing!** but the eggs were really disgusting. Runny, flavorless scrambled eggs. Truly disgusting and inedible. Sorry that's harsh. The biscuits were good but they were brought in from CHB. Those eggs were the most terrible eggs I've ever had. Not sure what happened. The French toast was essentially fried. So crunchy I couldn't even chew it. Cut my mouth actually.. The second experience at the restaurant, I got the avocado toast. This was a much better choice. Huge disappointment!!! What a drop-off in service and quality since I stayed at The Hotel Bennett in late 2019. When you are the most expensive hotel in a town filled with expensive hotels, you should strive to be the best. The Bennett has a long way to go to get back to where they were before. Food and coffee at Gabrielle was served cold on 2 different days. The front desk personnel committed to doing things they never did. The staff was friendly but not adequately trained to provide what should be a 5 star experience. Equipment in the room did not function properly. Wifi connected but you couldn't get online. I never write reviews but after speaking to Yolanda Palmer, I had no choice but to write my first yelp review in many many years. Not only was she incredibly sweet, she was beyond helpful. She answered the phone with the warmest greeting, which, that alone, is so rare these days. I let her know that I've been trying to secure a reservation for a group of girlfriends for high tea at Camellias for over a month with no luck, despite leaving multiple voicemails on the restaurant extension. Yolanda could not have been more accommodating, offering to reach out to multiple people on my behalf. She truly went above and beyond what most employees would've done. My young son's name is Bennett, so we took him in to explore after dinner because he was so tickled to see his name up on a building while we walked around. Everyone in the hotel was super sweet, going out of their way to engage him as he walked by, and the concierge even gave him a special Hotel Bennett pen when she heard he had the same name. While we typically stay out on Kiawah, if I needed to stay in the city, this would be my top choice just based on the calibre of service we observed as non-guests just passing through. read more

I'm giving the hotel one star purely based on my experience months ago. I arrived a day early and had to get a regular room because balcony rooms were all booked. I sent several garments to be pressed and a few to be dry cleaned... that's where it all began... the next day my pressed dress does not come back, they were apologetic but it's in the way the conversation was handled that was off. Management began to tell me that their housekeeping has garments that looks just like my dress- granted my dress was designer went all the way to the floor with a large cut out in it's midsection.. they continued with the theme it must've been mistaken for a housekeeping uniform. Sure! That must be it! You can't make this up! It was never found. The next day my dry cleaning came and another designer dress was missing. This time they try to claim that it was never dry cleaned because I had mistakenly miscounted and not Placed the correct amount of dresses I had dry cleaned. I told them to give me the telephone number and address of the dry cleaner and I will drive there myself because I'm not losing another $1300 dress. They told me the dry cleaner was in North Charleston, and that they had contacted them. Management tried to make me feeI there dress was all in my imagination. I think the dry cleaner and hotel know exactly what they're doing. They probably thought because I didn't mark how many items I had for dry cleaning that they would hold onto an expensive dress... Luckily, my dress was found (SHOCKING) and returned to me. It was all very bizarre, awkward experience. I personally will not stay at this hotel again. My room (I booked 2 balcony rooms) totaled a wasteful 14k. They did comp me one night because I thought it was only fair since that actually only covers the first dress that was lost and they did ask if there's anything we can do and I'm sure I could have requested many things but that's not the point! Hotels at this level should be held to a certain standard. Upper management was apprised of this matter and didn't care one bit. Oh and they never allowed me to view the surveillanc footage. I had a lovely spa day scheduled and many other fun events however, it was all hindered by these 2 to 3 days of missing garments. The dry cleaner also ruined my beautiful silk blouse which I did not bring to their attention because at that point what's the point. read more

We stayed at the Hotel Bennett a year ago and the customer service was impeccable. However, this visit has been quite the opposite. the front desk crew is rude, arrogant and absolutely not helpful in any way. Two examples: we called the hotel to assist with late night airport transportation and we're told to take an uber. only after speaking with a manager was I able to get assistance, albeit quite reluctantly. In addition, we called to reserve a pool cabana. We were told there were plenty available and they would call the pool to place our name on the reservation. when we arrived, this did not happen and in fact the cabanas had been booked. Apparently the front desk is unaware of how to break amenities in their own hotel. Really very disappointing for what they advertise as a grand experience. read more

Hotel Bennett is a great new hotel in Charleston that is grand and what a hotel should be for the Peninsula and its location. It was well worth the wait of over ten years to finally be able to enjoy what is one of my new favorite hotels in Charleston. I have been able to enjoy every visit here as it feels like a unique experience in Charleston, but also feels like it is something that has always been here and has the feeling of an old historic hotel. Everything here is top of the line and exceeds expectations on a grand scale from the entrance to the lobby to the rooms to the views and everything in between. This is also a great place to do business and have meetings and conferences as the meeting space is wonderful. This is an overall awesome hotel. read more

We were gifted a night's stay at the Bennett for Christmas, and what an experience it was. It started with the usual meet and greet at the curb by a super friendly and helpful young man who greeted and welcomed us and walked us into the door, where we were then greeted by another who took us to the front desk. Check-in was a breeze, two people helping, offering advice and inquiring as to any specials wants or needs. Our room was awesome, I would consider a junior suite, full of light and fantastic views outside. Impeccably clean. Almost immediately our luggage arrived, we were given a tour of our room and instructions on how to control virtually everything from the screen on our tv, lighting, shades, curtains, all controlled with the remote, ice was gone for, all without us asking for a thing. The furnishings in the sitting the were very elegant and comfortable, the built in enclosed bookshelves were filled with books, and I swear the colors were selected to coordinate with the scheme of the room. THAT is attention to detail, which frankly sums up our entire stay, excruciating attention to detail. The bath was frankly amazing, huge soaker tub, giant walk in shower with 2 shower heads and a built in bench, double vanity, plush towels. We visited the piazza, too cool to sit, but what a place to sit with the paper and a cup of coffee in the am in spring, or with a nice cocktail in the pm. The adjoining bar is very intimate feeling with the wall to the piazza being all glass floor to ceiling doors that open fully. We actually dared to dine in the fantastic Gabrielle since due to COVID there were few other diners and we felt quite safe in sitting and enjoying a wonderful meal. Our server, Camille, was exactly what you would want, friendly, helpful, sense of humor. She made a wonderful dining experience even better. Breakfast in the room the next am was a real treat, elegantly served and great tasting. I frankly cannot say enough positive things about the Bennett, its staff, its facilities, the fold, the location. It is just about perfect. Treat yourself and stay here. read more

I highly recommend avocado toast for breakfast in bed. Honestly, I have trouble leaving the room as it is so comfy. The hotel vibe is great, the staff is kind, & helpful. Brendon @ Gabrielle makes amazing cocktails. Winter warm up is my favorite. Tea in the pink room is a cute idea for bachelorette or wedding showers.. even just a girls day. Admittedly, the entrance, the staff and receptionists, artwork, the lounge with live happy hour music, and the rooftop bar are spectacular and one of the best hoity-toity experiences in Charleston. However, you don't have to stay there to enjoy these ambiences. The best thing about Hotel Bennett is it is 100 times better than what stood there for the last half century. The rooms are very nicely appointed and comfortable with shelves of unread books to make it feel less sterile, but the only distinguishing feature of the room itself was that we had a spectacular 3rd floor view of the church and steeple across the street through the misty rain. The soaking tub was a nice touch though. However, it still seemed overpriced. For those with a lot of disposable income and who want to pay twice as much for a king room compared with other very nice and unique hotels in downtown Charleston, go ahead and have at it! However just from a value perspective, from our standpoint it will be a once in a lifetime experience. read more

We started the morning by calling the hotel and asking if they had a preferred garage. The guy on the other end proceeded to tell us there was a few parking garages nearby, when asked for names of the garages he replied "you can google it." My wife was on the speaker phone and I said "amazing a 5 star hotel doesn't know the name of the garages they use." Fast forward to check in, before we could make it to the counter, my wife, daughter and I were halted and were told in a stern matter, "umm excuse me are you staying with us." Not thinking nothing about it I replied "yes, it's my wife's first Mother's Day she is celebrating." Check in was your typical run of the mill procedure that rivaled at best a motel 6. I need your ID, elevator is over there this is your room number bye I'm done with you. Mind you we splurged for the kings club level but did not get the treatment on check in no tour or anything I never met the concierge, which I found odd as we have stayed at several 5 star hotels across the US and this hotel just felt cold to me. Anyway I bit my lip as this day was for my wife to relax. Get to the room and I am just holding it in for my wife trying to stay calm. Mind you, I am a hotel snob, I see everything, I literally make a living doing it. As a 5 star hotel, in my eyes when a person enters a room a problem should not be found at all or at least immediately. Black scuff marks on the wall, trash in the closet, unknown substance in the closet floor, stains on the couch (eww), paint on the tub, and dirty windows. As stated before I bit my lip, at this point the wife is starting to notice the frustration and suggests lets go to the club and grab a drink. We exit our room and the one person that stood out was the maintenance man. This guy sees us and without hesitation says, "good afternoon do you need any help finding the elevators or the club?" The guy walks us to the club. We go to the club have a drink sit outside. Wife wants another sandwich I go up to the food area and a new face appears and again I'm asked, "excuse me sir are you staying here." I reply , "why yes I am it's my wife's first Mother's Day we are celebrating, she had to work on Mother's Day so we are celebrating today is that okay?" Fast forward we go exploring to the pool deck and we have our daughter in the stroller but there is no way to get the stroller up the pool stairs. So we explore the little area next to the pool I'm guessing it's a event area looking for like an elevator couldn't find one thought it was odd. As we get to the pool stairs again an employee crosses are path and I say excuse me do you have an elevator to get up there. This lady whips around with an attitude and says no lies exact word at a 5 star hotel, " first off, are y'all even staying here." Wtf, I snap at this point and literally stop myself from screaming and say," what, do we not look like we belong here is there a problem my complexion !!" I am red hot and I'm pretty sure she could tell I was pissed as we bolted for the elevators she then made it a point to show us the lift for the pool and to show that the hotel was handicap accessible. My wife calms me down and I drop her off at her room because this day is for her. I take my daughter downstairs and ask for the manager. Front desk is going into panic mode now the customer service that should of occurred to begin with starts to finally emerge. I voice all my concerns to the manager. This is our second visit, this is a special day and it does not feel special your employees are rude and I don't appreciate it I don't know if it's because I'm wearing jeans and a dress shirt and collectible Nikes or my year round tan that does not go away but this is ridiculous also please send a magic eraser up to the room and a mop it's disgusting. I got a verbal apology nothing was done to correct the room issue and no apology was given to my wife. This is not a 5 star hotel a 3.5 on a good day. I booked the afternoon tea for my birthday and honestly it was the worst and weirdest afternoon tea I have ever experienced. First, without naming names the server was odd and socially awkward. Not the type of service you would expect at a fancy establishment. The server had over shared personal facts...I'll just put it that way lol. We were super excited when he claimed that the pastry chef was 10th in the world and 5th in the United States....Well let me tell you, you better back that up with something out of this world. What we experience was literally The most underwhelming, unappetizing tea we have ever experienced. The pastries were horrible and the savory course was WEIRD! Example: The roast beef sandwich I can't even describe...it sat on a gelatinous orange blob and was topped with tapenade...wth!!! The ham quiche was a dry ass piece of crust with no ham in it. My friends and I stayed at Hotel Bennett on 2/8/19 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel itself was absolutely GORGEOUS and had the cutest champagne bar. As a lover of champagnes and sparkling wines, this was definitely a highlight. The staff was one of the most friendliest and professional staff I ever encountered during a hotel stay. They were very warm and genuine when greeting us and went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable. At one point, my friend left a very expensive handbag that she recently purchased in the lobby and panicked. The staff took the bag and held it for her in the office until she was able to retrieve it. I cannot say enough great things about this hotel. Had lunch there today with a friend. No one else was there. We each ordered the ceasar salad and a grilled chicken sandwich. The salad was a few pieces of romaine with some croutons, dressing and parm. cheese. She made a mistake and we got a cold, tasteless, small, sliced chicken breast instead of the sandwiches we ordered. She did offer to correct the error, it we said it was ok and we would just keep the chicken breasts. Those items along with a diet soda and club soda was $78.00. Unbelievable. The lobby is very big and welcoming with seating everywhere and their lobby bar opens up to a patio right on to Marion Square. Maybe I'm giving 5 stars because I don't usually stay in hotels like this and wasn't used to the professionalism and beauty this place had to offer. Yes drinks/food were expensive, but that's expected and the cocktails I had were definitely not lacking. The bar staff up top knows exactly what they're doing.
