This is our first trip to the Sonoma Valley and we decided to stay here, in Santa Rosa. We selected this town as it was nicely located, centrally to most wineries, the Armstrong Forest, and Bodega Head Bay sites that we wanted to see on this trip. This particular hotel is decent and located right in a historic downtown Santa Rosa. The young girl who checked us in was great, very helpful and friendly too. The property has different buildings, the main building where we checked in and their gated building, which is slightly newer, though still very old and dated. Our room was somewhat comfy. The bed was just ok for a nice night's sleep, but one of us woke up each morning with a sore back from the softness of that side of the bed. The fixtures in the bathroom were very dated with gold faucets and towel holders, dark green marble tile, and very old layout/design. The room as a whole wasn't very symmetrical and put together cohesively. It was poorly lit and had an analog (dial type) thermostat which controlled a very loud HVAC system. The windows were single pane and let all the sound from outside in, so we heard all the various trash trucks, delivery trucks, loud vehicles, trains, etc that went by all day and night. Housekeeping did a decent job, but the towels were on the thin side. There was no fridge in the room. Parking was somewhat nearby, across the street in a private lot. Like I said, it's close to everything in the area, either walkable or central via car to drive to. Would I stay here again? Nope. At least not until they refurbish and update it.

Great hospitality!! So quaint. Loved the historical vibe with this hotel. Customer service was amazing. Parking can be rough. It is near quite a few restaurants.

Great customer service we arrived late last night. Sandy had helped us as my mom was in a wheelchair. Place very clean. Close to Catholic Church. Coffee in room. Downside parking street parking. Love the couch and patio. Thanks again for a great stay. 5 stars

This place is haunted. Looks haunted, feels haunted, we woke up at 2am to the hot water blasting and the mirror fogged. Great location, only .5 mile walk to down town. Lots of great shops and restaurants near the hotel, cute little vintage district. There was a used bandaid left on the shelf in the shower. It was neon orange and up where the soaps were displayed so maybe the person cleaning was really short and didn't see it... still a big turn off. Room was otherwise clean, they gave us ice and free water but no fridge on site so we threw away a lot of leftovers.

We had such a nice four day stay here! The beds were comfortable--really nice. The shower was strong and hot. The room was spacious. It was just so lovely. We stayed in the carriage house so we had our own little sitting area outside. The common area was lovely too with roses and a small fountain. It was great for reading or just relaxing. I plan to return soon and often!

Hotel La Rose is a great place to stay. It is in walking distance of the train station as well as a coffee shop and many other restaurants. Overall, we really liked the area. There was a nice park in the middle of town. The night we stayed, they were having a Wednesday night summer market with popup food vendors, a craft beer garden, and live music. We stayed in the carriage house. It was really nice with a locked gate and a patio in the middle. The room was a nice size and very clean. The dressing area next to the bathroom was also very large, and there was plenty of room for two people to get ready at the same time. I would definitely stay there again.

Been 10 years since I've been here but still a really cool place to stay... Circa 1920's ish.

Great hotel. Have stayed a few times over the years. Always a friendly staff and great ambiance.

We stayed for one night and we have no complaints. We were on the fourth floor and there is an elevator so we used that for our luggage. The staircases are beautiful though. It's a really pretty hotel. We slept great, no bugs and it seemed clean. Shower head is kinda funky, it's older style so it doesn't spray the water evenly but it works. Toilet has an overhead pull handle so that was kinda fun to flush lol. Parking is $15 across the street and they give you a permit. Area was quiet and safe at night.

The front desk employee, was annoyed when I arrived at 2:00. She lectured me about rooms not being ready, and how she doesn't like the app giving guests the option to check-in early. Rooms are old and dont smell great. There were also some unsavory type guests staying in some neighboring rooms. I got he feeling this may be a popular place for unhoused people to stay when they get enough money together for a room. Our next door neighbor was clearly on drugs and came outside and glared at us and slammed his door each time we went to our car. Very odd and a bit unsettling. Bottom line, this hotel is just too inexpensive to be a safe place to stay. I'll just pay $20 more p night and stay in a Hampton Inn or Garden Inn as opposed to this location.

The weekend we stayed was a busy one, so the property was mostly occupied. The staff was moving as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Upon check-in, which was an hour late beyond check-in time, we had to store our luggage with the front desk. We were hoping to get in on time so we could freshen up before our wine tasting but we just used the lobby bathroom. When we got back from lunch, we get to our one-bedroom suite, which is the Sonoma Garden Suite. The room is super nice and spacious room with a full patio (see photos); it easily fits 4-5 (two full beds and one couch). But we had one problem....the room was soooo hot...mind you, we went on a hot weekend. We called for service and they send the engineer to look at our AC unit twice. Air was blowing, but it was warm air. At this point, we decided we cannot stay in this room, and I asked the front desk what can be done. They said they could move us to another room. I asked for TWO rooms bc technically, the suite we had was a room made for 4+ people and I booked it for the sole factor being we had lots of extra space (800+ SF). After a little back and forth, the young lady at the front desk said there was nothing they could do bc they only had ONE room. Then the front desk manager Eddie Huang stepped in and said they will try to fix the AC one more time when my group and I were out to dinner. Before leaving, I asked in the event the AC is NOT fixed, what are our options. He said they would figure that out when I got back, but I told him I didn't want to deal with this after a later dinner; I would rather have some kind of backup plan as the two first visits from the engineer did not result in anything. I left slightly annoyed, bc although I was reassured they would make it right, there was no clear plan. We left for dinner, came back to the room, changed, and made the decision that we needed to get out of this room ASAP. Luckily two of the gals were able to deal with the air, but two of us could not. So, we marched to the front desk and front desk manager Eddie was still there. He said he has taken the necessary steps to move us into TWO rooms and that they are ready now. Told him we only needed one room since the other two guests were ok with staying where they were. The next morning, we checked out and Eddie was there again, said he reimbursed us all our points, and took care of the resort/parking fee as well. I was pleasantly surprised. I know sometimes the staff can only do so much, especially given it was a busy weekend, but I have to say the two times I've been here, the staff was very nice and keep their cool. Patrons can be unruly so a high-five to them for dealing with the complaints. This property remains one of the nicer ones and is within walking distance of so many good eats. I would go back again and hopefully try to make use of that nice patio in that suite I booked.

The rooms both times were clean, with comfortable beds, and all amenities seemed great as well. Did not use the pool or the hot tub but they were on the premises. I did like the daily events available: went to a yoga class on one morning and on one of the evenings to the s'mores night, both are free for those who stay at the hotel. I did not hear any neighbors on any of then nights but maybe got lucky. Can walk to the nearby restaurants which is a plus as well. Will be back again if will visit the area.

It looked like the price was fluctuating only about $5-10 per day so I decided to book. After, I booked, the price dropped by about $50 per night (taking taxes and fees into account) including up until the day of our trip. I tried to call on the phone to request an upgrade to account for that, and I will save you the details, but they were extremely unhelpful. Then the hotel was 98% sold out. Already a bit of a sour taste... The room is tiny; I originally thought the bathroom was a closet. This is the smallest hotel room I have stayed in ever. The bed takes up most of the room. Ridiculously small. The bed is rather large and comfy. The pool was VERY busy over the weekend. I used the gym/health club sufficiently so that was a positive. Local residents can join the club so it really is a full size gym with classes. It is a few parking lots walk over depending on where your room is located. This made up for some of the negatives with pricing and room size. The location is great depending on what you want to explore. The vibe of the hotel itself is cool with the restoration. Checkout is at noon, which is considerably later than I have experienced elsewhere. Overall, we had a good time but would likely book here again only if the price was right (and not a basic room)!

On the morning of checkout I proactively booked and prepaid an additional night through Priceline, over $175 for a Friday night, specifically so I could remain in good standing and continue my stay without interruption. I called the front desk to let them know I had extended and asked whether I could remain in the same room. The agent said she would call me back. I never received that call. Approximately one hour later, while I was in the bathroom without my pants on, there was violent pounding on my door, loud enough to suggest an emergency. Before I could respond, the door was forced open. Three hotel staff members were standing in the doorway. When one of them saw that I was not dressed, she did not stop or step back. She pushed into the room, loudly demanding I be escorted out. I was then escorted downstairs in front of other guests and lectured about checkout time, as if I were unaware, despite having just paid $175+ for that exact night. The staff member handling the situation was apparently not aware I had already paid for the night, which means this entire confrontation was the result of an internal communication failure, not anything I did wrong. When I became upset, reasonably so, given I had just been physically removed from a room I legally paid for while partially undressed, I was told to leave the property entirely and to seek a refund through Priceline. There was no phone call, no knock-and-wait, no basic courtesy. Three employees were dispatched to physically confront a solo guest who had done nothing wrong. The dignity and privacy of a paying customer were completely disregarded. I am pursuing a full refund and have filed complaints with Marriott corporate, the BBB, and am exploring legal options under California law. Do not stay here if you expect your reservation to be honored or your basic dignity to be respected.

As for the positives, the rooms are all very clean, spacious, and comfortable with amenities like kitchenettes and seating areas. The building is also a very short walk to the downtown square with plenty of shopping and restaurants. There was also a nice common space that had continental breakfast items for grab and go. However, I found that some of the customer service was lacking, and this was very dependent on who was behind the front desk. We had one person who was pretty unhelpful and got annoyed when we asked about accessing parking or if they would be willing to hold bags behind the desk, but when we came back later, there was a different person, and they were very helpful. We historically have stayed in the Healdsburg area. This year we decided to mix it up a bit and stay in Santa Rosa. With its proximity to Santa Rosa downtown as well as multiple other wine country towns and attractions, we picked Art House to stay at. For our very large group of 20+ people, everything went super smoothly from start to finish. Booking our multiple rooms all on the same floor of the hotel was so easy and ideal. We booked everything from the Classic King Rooms to the Urban King Apartment Suite all the way up to the Cityscape Corner Apartment Suite. All the rooms were extremely reasonably priced and worked out great! I personally stayed in the Corner Apartment Suite and it was just such a great space. With a huge living/dining room, full kitchen and separate bedroom with a king bed and bathroom, it was so comfy. The floor to ceiling windows let in so much natural light with sweeping views of the Santa Rosa skyline. It frequently served as homebase most of our stay for everyone to just gather and hang out together in. It was just a fantastic room. Another huge plus was the complimentary Continental Breakfast. Stocked with bagels, English muffins, muffins, cereal, granola, yogurt, juice, milk, Nespresso coffee and various teas, this was simply fantastic to start the day with. For our huge group with multiple kids, it also saved us so much hassle and extra money vs. going out to an off-site restaurant for breakfast. What also made our stay EXTRA AMAZING was all of the staff. From the front desk team to housekeeping, every single staff member was absolutely wonderful. I will especially like to point out Marilyn, Ruth and Bernadette. This trio of women really went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. I really hope the hotel management recognizes this remarkable team. To be a good, complete reviewer, I will point out the few minor quibbles that others in our group did mention. The $21/night parking in the extremely tight enclosed garage was a bit pricey. Paid street parking is plentiful and cheaper, but if you have a nicer car then the choice is yours. The local Santa Rosa tap water flowing from all the room faucets could use a filter to help improve the taste a bit. And finally the shower pressure could use a lesser flow restrictor. Overall, Art House is just a fantastic choice if you are looking to stay in the Santa Rosa area. Our huge group unanimously agreed that we will definitely be back for a future repeat reunion here!
