I have no idea how I haven't left a review of Hotel Tango yet. So one thing to keep in mind: Hotel Tango is located in a historic district, so the business and its hours are heavily regulated. They just recently have been able to be open until midnight on Friday and Saturday with last call at 11pm. Their cocktails are expensive but stiff and pretty large so you'll have plenty to nurse for a good while. There is no food served besides popcorn but I believe Clustertruck delivers food. My girlfriend and I attended a black tie wedding this past Saturday and we were trying to figure out what bar could we go to that us in formal wear wouldn't be totally out of place, so we came here to enjoy some mint juleps. Even though it wasn't on the menu, the bartender made them. There is also a tailless cat. read more

Love the decor, or the lack thereof... whichever way you want to look at it. Sometimes I wish they had more seating available since you usually end up standing around all night once it get's busy. Love their cocktails of course. I do enjoy the forever new creations, but sometimes miss some of my favorites, when they disappear and never come back... sniff, sniff... heart-breaking. They did say they would still make the 'old and gone' drinks if they have all the ingredients... however, I usually can't remember the names but would recognize the darn thing if I saw it on the menu. I am happy this place got to be so popular, but I miss the days when you could just hang out here and carry on a conversation over drinks. This is going to sound funny but my FAVORITE thing about Hotel Tango is the smell of the wood burning fireplace that weaves its way down the street and into my nostrils. In person, you'll also enjoy the look of the stone fireplace that gives vibes of a mountainside cabin. If you see a redhead with wild hair, pajamas and a heavy cocktail in hand - that's me. Fortunately, Hotel Tango has more going for it than a stone fireplace ;) A few other notables include that they're dog friendly (you mean, I can drink and hang with my pup? Yes, please). Free popcorn on hand to keep your left hand busy while your right hand is tipping back tasty artisan cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, the menu changes frequently so you'll want to pop in every few months for a fresh perspective. The building itself is a historical 19th Century Carriage House located in Fletcher Place - home to other downtown favorites like Calvin Fletcher's Bluebeard, 12.05 Distillery and Milktooth to name a few. Can you tell I love my neighborhood? ;) Interesting note about Hotel Tango - the vibe realllly changes depending on what day of the week you visit. I've found that on a weekday evening its laid back with a mix of neighbors and folks looking to grab a drink or two. However, the music changes on the weekends, the crowds pour in and ha, looks like a hot bed for singles. I learned this the hard way...I showed up on a Saturday night wearing yoga pants and a sweatshirt and realized how different the clientele was from say, a Wednesday. I felt old. My favorite place for cocktails! The creativity in their original and unique flavors are so unmatched. I have never had a drink from here that I have not enjoyed. Most recently enjoyed their Stu pickles drink-no pickle juice was harmed in the making of this drink but it is very green and freaking delicious! I am still thinking about this drink a day later, hungover and still craving the juiciness and refreshing flavor from this drink. Our table also really enjoyed the Drey Berrymore, also refreshing and delicious. My all time favorite drink is the American Ass, not currently on their menu since it is a seasonal menu, but they are able to make it if you ask, another reason why this place is my favorite. They have added some outdoor seating and is a great place when it's nice out to sit out one patio to enjoy a great cocktail. I will say to be careful because I could not taste the alcohol but my 30plus body can tell that their drinks were loaded with the alcohol a day later! Their spirit flight is a great way to taste their house made spirits if you like to get a taste for just your base spirits. I should go here more. You probably should too. Their cocktails are not only creative, but delicious. Sometimes, cocktail bars get a little too creative and end up producing some weird stuff, but not Tango. My current favorite is the Stormy Mule, a combo of two of my favorite cocktails. I also love that they have shot specials for $3, great for when you start drinking here and $10 cocktails all night seems a little bit daunting to the wallet. The vibe is super eclectic. It has been different every time I have been. Sometimes it's busy and full of trendy-looking people. Other times it's laid back with a few couples hanging out or a knitting club enjoying a cocktail by the fireplace. I kind of like that I never know what to expect, with the exception of good service and extremely friendly (and objectively good-looking) bartenders. Tango is also good for a events. They have a huge side room with plenty of tables and seating for that purpose. Had the pleasure of opening this place one Saturday afternoon and got two bartenders all to ourselves. Hey, if I need to justify day drinking just call it brunch where the food is consumed elsewhere. The crowds do start to come in early afternoon. I've been exposed to the products offered from here at events and I remembered it was in the area during a weekend trip to Indy. I'm so glad I was able to stop in and get WOW'ed with the well crafted cocktails, service and comfortable seating that really encourages you to plop down and chill for while. The cocktails are very creative, flavorful and can really be thrown back. But be carful, they can sneak up on you. I wish I lived closer to this location, because I would be here every day! I love the atmosphere and the staff. We stopped by here for a drink after having dinner at another location. We were greeted immediately to check IDs and let us know we can sit anywhere. We sat at the bar and were greeted by the bartender. This a great place to go to have a relaxing drink. They have a fireplace in the middle of the room. The room has a big bar and then it has some comfortable sofas as well as tables and chairs. A lot of hardwood and stone walls. This is a veteran owned distillery. In the main area is a bar and generally it appears you order at the bar during the day. All the drinks are handcrafted. I had the The Things About Trains which contained cranberry vodka, Sambuca, Orange, lemon and orange. It was good but would have preferred it without the sambucca or at least a little bit less of it in the drink. My daughter ordered the Duke and Duke which is orangello, cranberry vodka,apple cider and lemon and green tea. I really liked hers. They have an array of recipes and so I am sure theyare flexible about mixing something for you using your favorite ingredients. They have a second room containing the distillery equipment and a second bar if it gets busy. As were leaving on a Friday around4 the place was filling up. The only food they serve are broadripple chips which are delicious but a charcuterie board or something would be. Ice to offer. Service was very good. Not only will this be my 300th review, but I went to Hotel Tango for my birthday and it was a fabulous way to celebrate! So me and some lady friends went On a Saturday evening and we found parking (behind the building) and although it was packed we found perfect seating across from the bar next to the restrooms and it was the perfect nook for us! So first of all our waiter was awesome! He was from England so the accent made us feel like we were in an exotic land :) lol! But I got the Buttercup which was really good and I love gin!!! He also gave us shots for my bday... I seriously could not have gone to a better place! It was seriously perfect. It was the absolute best way to end my night! Sometimes you just have to be at the right place at the right time. That's certainly how I was introduced to Hotel Tango, and the generosity of one of the owners, Adam, has made me alter plans Monday night to make sure I'm here for the grand opening and tailgate party. It started with a simple bike ride through an alley. As we rode past the building that is now Hotel Tango Whiskey (or just Hotel Tango for short), we stopped to peek inside the garage windows to see how they were coming along. Adam was sitting at the bar and came over to the door to chat with us for a second, and then invited us in for a tour. As we walked past the massive fireplace in the main area, it became apparent how much work they've done to make the place look just as it did a year ago when they acquired the building. I'm certain the historical society will be pleased on how nice the place looks with the exposed brick walls and the general "rustic" feel. I immediately knew this place was going to be awesome, and exactly what I would expect an artisan distillery to look like. The electric stills in the back are small (hence the 'artisan') but they plan on getting something a bit larger - yet still retaining that homey artisan vibe. Right out the door they've got vodka and rum ready to go. We sampled the rum.. and it had just the right amount of burn as it went down. Yum-o! They plan on having limoncello, gin, moonshine and whiskey as well as a dark rum. This is a place that's going to get busy fast and stay that way. They're planning on staying open 7 days a week but have some residential requirements that have to adhere to as well. Some parking in the front, and some additional in the back. Keep your eyes open on this place folks... it's about to explode on the scene! read more

Stopped in for a drink during Saturday date night. They were busy but we were able to grab 2 seats at a high top table. Wait staff was very attentive and gave us great suggestions. I had the S'mores old fashion called Gimme the Loot and my husband had a Flipmode ( love the names). They were so tasty now I need marshmallow bourbon in my life every day. Our server suggested a flight so we could try the different spirits. I ended up getting a bottle of bourbon. This place was super cute, easy to find parking, they had tables and heaters outside. Hard to beat a cocktail from Hotel Tango! I bring any friends who visit me in Indy here first, and they always want to come back. The most current menu isn't as exciting to me as previous seasons, especially with a significant number of the drinks focusing on cucumber flavor for spring, but I've always found something I like there, and even a standard old fashioned with Hotel Tango's house made spirits is a solid option. I've been to Hotel Tango a couple of times during fountain square adventures. The good: free popcorn. Good local snacks. Strong cocktails. The bartenders are great at providing suggestions. During the cooler months they have hot and cold apple cider spiked with your choice of liquor. It tasted like fall and was strong. It's very spacious inside which is good for large groups. Walk into Hotel Tango and you are transported to a warm ski lodge in the Adirondack mountains. The exposed beams of the old brick building, comfy couches and spiral stair case make this a charming little spot in Fletcher Place. It's a perfect date spot to curl up on one of the couches and drink some rum. So let's talk about what is created at Hotel Tango: rum, vodka, gin and whiskey. The area where they distill the spirits is open for you to walk around in, at least it is each time I have been there. It's a good overflow space if the tasting room is packed. It's fun to look at the copper stills of different sizes. The tasting room offers mixed cocktails. I must say I have yet to really love one that I have ordered. I ordered a rum drink with cayenne pepper last Saturday. Wowzers!!! Way too much force on the shaker there! I watched the bartender just dump a ton of it in the drink. I think it is supposed to be a splash of flavor and not a meal-replacement of cayenne. Other vodka drinks I have had have been just too sugary for my liking. Maybe I should try a whiskey drink for more of a savor flavor? Gosh, I don't know if I will at $11 a pop for drinks. So let's chat about the price of the drinks. I must say the Thunderbird just down the road does a really nice cocktail for $3 less. It's not made with "artisan" spirits like Hotel Tango, but they use great product. I am thinking the mark-up in price at HT is all for the artisan label. I can't say that the spirits by themselves really blows me away, but I know this will improve over time. Service: horrific. I cannot stress this enough. There are clearly staffing issues behind the bar. We waited over 45 minutes to get our first drink last Saturday night (they had a jazz band playing). Once someone finally approached us they told us to "write it down on this post-it note.". What?! Ok, we write our order down. Then other people write their orders down. Then all the orders get jumbled up. People behind us get drinks before us. Uggggh!!! I just want to get my drink and go sit by the fabulous fire! They really need a better system for orders. Maybe a server that goes around filling requests and an additional bar tender. Or, I don't know... maybe some pre-made drinks? I will say I think the management realized that mission control had a problem. They brought around free slices of pizza. Fantastic! Except I'm lactose intolerant. :( Very good to see they wanted to let people know they cared. Overall, I love the ambiance. The drinks and service need improvement. This is a MUST place to check out with your dog! We had the best time hanging out at Hotel Tango! The distillery was large with lots of seating options for large and small groups. The space is so cozy with fireplaces, couches and brick throughout. We were able to snatch a couch in the back of the distillery which made our visit very quant and intimate. We ordered 3 drinks each. WOW. Each was better than the next. From their Fables & Fairytales menu, we chose Picture of Dorian Gay, Your Eternal Reward and Jack & Jill Smoke Spirits. From their The OG's we chose Gin Bravo. From their Classics, we chose a Whiskey Sour. From their Warmers, we chose Hot Cider with Orangecello. All were spot on and delicious. They offer a nice menu of shareable, dips, pizzas and sweets to share. We enjoyed their pretzels and gin cheese and their chicken basil ranch pizza. This could have easily fed 3-4 people. We stopped into Hotel Tango while on a day trip to Indianapolis. I'm so glad we did! What a cool distillery. We walked in and the atmosphere is very much like you are in a lodge. There are wooden tables and chairs, couches on either side of a fire place, and seating at the bar. In the second room, they have seating and the distillery viewing. We sat at the bar. I ordered a Rosemary's Baby and it is delicious. The menu has a great variety of drink that the staff create and they create new ones often. They named the bar and the liquors using the military phonetic alphabet which is really cool! The bartender was very knowledgeable and we learned she has worked at there since they opened. She was friendly and answered our questions. They definitely cater to their regulars by making sure they feel special in some way. They have free popcorn for snacks and a shop with merchandise as you walk in. The restrooms were decorated within the same scheme as the bar and were clean and tidy. Definitely check this place out. Well first - they allow dogs so, that alone is amazing. Second, the staff is always so helpful, personal and knowledgeable. We have a drink "hack" that we LOVE in the winter - we get the spiked cider with bourbon, then a flight of bourbon. I'm always down to try the drink special which this was. I don't believe there is any food served here but you are welcome to order takeout from several nearby options if you're looking for something. There is a popcorn machine to help yourself to something to snack on. The workers were very friendly, we must have been asked about 3 or 4 times if we were being taken care of. We went in around 8pm on a Thursday night and there was hardly anyone in there which was a plus! It was nice and quiet and we found a nice big table right away. I ordered the Chai Something New (whiskey, chai, chai simple, & angostura bitters) since it was a cold night. It was served hot and came in a cute little jar.
