(she also sent us a ton of referrals since she's a wedding coordinator herself; we ended up using the bar service she rec'd which also tasted great for a reasonable price.) the tasting for up to 6 ppl was in a lowkey pho restaurant in san marcos (dessert not included). they said tastings didn't typically include hors d'oeuvres, but they saved some from the event they did the day before. every dish was great, even our v picky families approved. our place settings were also done up w all the dinnerware that's included w their fee. (just note they accept zelle & check for payment, not cc, so be aware of your bank's transfer limits or come prepared w a checkbook.) from then on our point of contact was alexus, who was also rly responsive. she was our liaison w her rental vendors so we could get linens, also at a rly reasonable price then on the day of, ashleigh was the coordinator on-site & the courses came out quick. the food was just as good as the tasting & got so many compliments! each guest i talked to had a different favorite course (including hors d'oeuvres & dessert) which just proved they were all great. (*i will say, the portions were smaller, but since food costs in general doubled between our tasting & the wedding, it was understandable. guests were still full but just didn't have as much to-go) ofc the day was such a blur, so we were a little bummed that we weren't able to enjoy our sweetheart meal to the fullest. but the great part was, chef tho invited us back to the restaurant so we could have another meal! they timed it w another couple's tasting, so the menu was different from ours but still delicious. it just further cemented that you can't go wrong w any of their dishes [now, were there a few minor hiccups along the way? sure. if we could go back in time, we'd know a 6' round table fits 10 guests more comfortably than 5'. we'd know "complimentary" services are still subject to sales tax & gratuity, so it's more like they're heavily discounted vs 100% free. we would've relied on our bar to serve the soda. & we would've specified how to cut the cake so we wouldn't have run out as early (but to be fair this was prob our coordinator's fault). but ultimately these were all minor issues compared to how great the food was & how happy we were overall.] tldr: def recommend! hott was easily the best thing about our reception! read more

I was trying to look for a caterer for a party that my husband and I were hosting in a large vacation home in Ramona that would be able to support my desire to have a more East Asian style of food, as most of the caterers in the region were mainly American style. After browsing several sites looking for suitable caterers, I landed on Hott Catering. I sent out emails to several caterers as backups, but Hott Catering was the only one who replied. Luckily it was the caterer I was most hoping for. I also knew I was pressing my luck since most caterers were already booked. Alexus called me the following day, and she sent me the details of the different options they had, and asked what day we were interested in having their service. They ended up having another party to serve the same day, but said hey have enough staff for two parties, and I would have a different chef (other than Tho). After talking with Alexus we chose the Family Style Gold Package that was the following: Appetizers: Snow Crab Soup with Asparagus & Quail Egg Thai Style Black Tiger Shrimp Cocktail Salad Main courses: Grilled Whole Scallop Top with Cheesy Baked Crab Casserole Lobster Tails with Chef's House Special Sauce Crispy Swai Fish Filet with Spicy & Sweet Passion Fruit Sauce Marinated Beef Short Ribs Stewed with Herbs & Red Wine Sauce Served with Japanese Udon Noodles Shanghai Roasted Chicken Drumsticks with Organic Turmeric Rice Dessert: Sweet Pearl Dessert with Pandan Aroma I decided to do a tasting with them at their Pho restaurant in San Marcos where they had us taste the meals we were interested in, minus the dessert (that was originally a Taro Pudding), but that we switched out for the Sweet Pearl Dessert. Everything was unbelievably delicious. I have two nephews that have dairy and nut allergies, and one of them also have an additional allergy of egg and sesame oil. And a sister in law that is pescatarian. Alexus was so kind with my requirements in trying to accommodate me with their dietary restrictions, which was about $140 additional charge for each. She threw in an extra plate for free that included a lobster tail for both of my nephews when I asked about it since their meals did not include the lobster since it typically includes dairy. She said she would add in the lobster tails for free, which made me relieved and grateful at the same time. I was worried how my nephews might feel if they saw everyone receive the lobsters. They also were SUPER gracious in letting me add an extra special meal for my husband's cousin who was allergic to gluten-free very last minute despite the contract having already been finalized and all the initial payments were made. When it came to the day of the party, everything mostly went well. There was a bit of a mixup since it wasn't Tho that was the chef because the servers did not realize that the free lobsters were included the contract. I had asked them about it, and they went to ask the chef and came back and told me that unfortunately the remaining lobsters were already cooked with dairy which made me incredibly disappointed since I had told my nephews they were getting lobster tails. They went back a third time and came back to clarify with me that actually they were wrong, the remaining lobsters were NOT cooked with dairy yet. I'm so happy it was all resolved but it stressed me out a bit at the time. My nephews and my sister in law were served after the food had come out for everyone else first. And for a 12 and 9 year old, patience is definitely not their strong suit when being hungry. I wasn't sure if my husband's cousin was served separately but I imagine so. Looking back, I think I might have gone the buffet style way. The reason being was because there were many children at my party that I chose not to order meals for with HOTT catering and it made the seating along with how the food was served confusing for both the servers and the guests that were parents. HOTT catering supports buffet style, family style and individual plate and it was just messy in the end. The dishes were all delicious (to me) and there was so much food! Many people packed home the overflow of leftovers! I wasn't sure how it went over with my husband's family who are not used to East Asian flavor and cooking, but I can't speak to their taste in food =). It was also very hot that day out in Ramona so it added to the chaos. Alexus was excellent with communication, incredibly responsible, and understanding. Tho was an excellent chef, and their other chef was also very nice, though his accent was slightly stronger. So good, our guests literally APPLAUDED Chef Tho! We're so happy we found HOTT Catering for our wedding reception in January (belated review). We wanted a more traditional, family-style plated meal, and HOTT was the perfect blend of choosing our own venue and having Chinese banquet food. Everyone was raving about how delicious the food was, even some guests who aren't as adventurous in their usual choice of cuisine. My picky Taiwanese relatives and foodie Hong Kong friends had only great things to say. I had a lot of questions about dietary restrictions, set-up, etc. and Ashleigh delivered on all of it. We had guests that had seafood allergies and others who were gluten-free. Chef Tho made sure that these portions were cooked separately and I got feedback from these guests that these dishes were also delicious - huge step up from the basic pasta dishes that those with dietary restrictions usually get at weddings. This review is long overdue (I got married a year ago), but I have to rave about Hott Catering. My husband and I absolutely loved the food and one of the top comments that our guests made even to this day is that our wedding food was the best they ever had. Even people who aren't super familiar with Asian food loved it. The food tastes high quality and being made onsite means it's "hott" and fresh. Some of the standout dishes were the crab claws, lobster tail with garlic noodles, filet mignon cubes, fish maw soup, and baby clam in shrimp crackers hors d'oeuvre. The staff was very friendly, approachable, and professional throughout pre-wedding communication and day-of. The only thing I would say could be improved is that the mango sticky rice we requested as dessert (replacing the jackfruit sticky rice on their menu) had mangoes that weren't quite ripe enough. Hott originally warned us they may not be able to get ripe mangoes at the time of our wedding (May), but ultimately said they could. They do kindly welcome comments and requests for specific adjustments which we really appreciated. We're so happy we went with them knowing we wanted something different than the typical wedding food we see and Hott really delivered. Every single guest told me it was not only the best wedding food they've ever had, but some of the best Chinese/Vietnamese food they've ever had. Every single dish was delicious! I appreciated Alexus' guidance so much! -Ability to make menu changes to existing/pre-fixed menus and stayed within budget -Provided reasonable payment timelines and detailed instructions to complete -Provided sound advice and collaboration with booked venue During event -Arrived on time to begin on-site, outdoor cooking -They set-up in anticipation of rain and it went smoothly -Sufficient number of staff for event of 50 guests - Staff was mindful of the timeline while passing a variety of hors d'oeuvres to all guests, whether they were in the designated cocktail area or lingering elsewhere. -Food was tasty with generous portions. By our choice, menu was seafood heavy, but still well rounded -Family style dinner service consisted of multiple courses and there was some inconsistency with how food was prepared. They received this feedback and were apologetic. I appreciated that. Post Event / Hindsights -Hott Catering was required to be the main source of drinking water, but after dinner service, it left with them. This is normal. Be sure to work with the booked bar vendor to ensure water service continues. -Overall satisfied and would book Hott Catering again. read more

Hott Catering did a fantastic job from start to finish! Tho/Toan were kind, communicative and gave fantastic recommendations on what we should cater for our wedding. The food was fantastic and everyone that I spoke to at the wedding mentioned that the food was delicious. I was able to taste the lobster for myself and let me tell you. It definitely didn't disappoint, it was rich, buttery, crispy on the outside yet still soft on the inside. Yum! Only improvement feedback I got was that some guests wished the vegetarian fried rice had more flavor. They also, helped us out with providing setup/hot water for our late night ramen bar, which we greatly appreciated! A friend referred us to HOTT catering for our Anniversary celebration. We initially leaned towards buffet style meal and Chef Toan advised us to go with the banquet option. So glad we went that route as a banquet dinner with full service waiters lent a much more formal atmosphere. All guest were able to remain seated and converse instead of waiting in the buffet line. There's also the benefit of each course served individually instead of piled together buffet style. The appetizers were a big hit and the follow up Seven course banquet meal was delicious with each course served hot and timely. Table service was excellent, courteous and throughly professional. The event was a huge success and everyone had a great time. The HOTT team also cleaned up afterwards and the backyard was exactly as before. read more

Alexus and Chef Tho were amazing at our wedding at Building 177! Their staff was attentive, quick, and caring. All of the meals were cooked on-site and our guests LOVED the food. Some raved it was the best wedding food they have ever had! We were so relieved to hear this after the wedding. When we were in the bridal suite during cocktail hour, their staff made sure we were given appetizers before reception began. We were not expecting this and it was such a nice surprise. They were all so nice!! They even packed up the food at the sweetheart table for us to take home. Before the wedding, they kindly answered all of my, many, questions and Alexus worked closely with my wedding planner, RBCO Events, to make sure everything went smoothly. We had some guests with dietary restrictions and Alexus made sure they were accommodated accordingly. We are so happy we found HOTT Catering. They made it possible for us to have an American wedding with an Asian banquet style meal! We had around 210 people and our menu consisted of: 1. Fish Maw Egg Drop Soup with Crab Meat 2. It was for a our wedding and Hott Catering completely wowed the guests and the hosts with their timeliness, price point, aesthetics and most importantly, tastiness. Plus vegan friendly! We had a 2 tables that were vegan. Hott Catering graciously prepared a few of the entrees completely vegan, even introduced himself to the guest to ensure that it was good and clean, our vegan guest were amazed on how tasty it was. We had 250 people at our wedding and everybody had nothing but good things to say. Thanking us for treating them to an amazing meal and ask us who our caterer was. I've known Chef Tho since he had his Quê Huong restaurant, over 10 years ago. I was always a fan of his craft, at the time he didn't do much catering yet but I told him that he will do catering for my wedding when I find a victim. My wedding guests was blown away with a beach wedding but traditional family style 7 course meal. I have been in the wedding industry as a makeup artist for over 20 years (VanitySD.com) and I have never seen it before but tho team was cooking the food on the spot with the mobile kitchen they set up on the side of the venue building. The guests was so impressed at how hot and delicious the food was. A lot of my guest post about our wedding on social media, how fun they had and how amazing the food was. OMG BEST CATERING COMPANY EVER. Our wedding was at the Lane on 7.8.22. Toan and Tho and team we're communicative, kind, patient, EFFICIENT, caring, and best of all - professional. We have had multiple people tell us that this was the best wedding food that they have ever had. People are STILL talking about the food! They're so sweet, they sent a plate of hors d'oeuvres to my bridal suite so that we could try everything before it disappeared... which it did!! We got the package 3 for the hors d'oeuvres and the cocktail shooters were the crowd favorite. I mean EVERYTHING was good!!! Justin and his team was our Vietnamese food caterer for 180 guest at our wedding. He is an amazingly nice and easy going person who was quick to pick up our calls, answer our text, and most importantly flexible with our choices/substitutions of different dishes on the packages and our budget. The food tasted great on our tasting, but you definitely cannot please 180+ guests' tastebuds at the wedding. We had mixed reviews from the young and the older attendees regarding the food and the service. The younger crowd really enjoyed the food. We believe it's because the take on the Vietnamese cuisine is a bit more modern than what the older generation expected. We had a sweetheart table and the portion size of the dishes were great for the two of us. We had several people mention that the portion size for a table of 10 was small. We believe this can be worked out if you talk with Justin ahead of time with what you experience at your tasting and what can be expected at the wedding. Again, Justin is extremely accommodating and patient, so don't hesitate inquire or make any requests. Chef Tho and his team did an amazing job catering our wedding at the Japanese Friendship Garden. They do amazing 8 or 10 course meals just like Jasmine or other Chinese restaurants for weddings, but the food is more Vietnamese inspired. Our menu consisted of: 1. Rare Filet Mignon with Lime Juice Salad 2. Fish Maw Egg Drop Soup with Crab Meat 3. Grilled Scallop hors d'ourves 4. Crab Claw with Minced Shrimp Fried Rolls 5. Chargrilled Lamb Rack (more like lollipop because each person gets one bone, but amazing Vietnamese marinade) 6. Dragon Fried Rice (crab) 7. Stir-fried abalone with shiitake mushroom 8. Lobster Tail with Garlic Noodles 9. Steamed Swai fish with house sauce 10. Durian Puree Fruit Dessert They have set packages already but we asked to change some dishes to more closely align with a traditional Chinese banquet. The Hott Catering team was super helpful and accommodating. The only thing we didn't get to taste during our tasting was the dessert, but we were so happy with it! We had 180 people and they did a great job making sure everyone go enough to eat. My family and friends are all very critical of food, but we got amazing feedback all night about the menu! Do keep in mind that they require cash on hand payments (Zelle only) which is understandable for the price and value that you're getting!
