We knew we had a complex wedding with lots of moving pieces and Hott Catering did their best to accommodate. We liked that Hott Catering was flexible and worked with us in creating a catering package that fit the needs of our wedding. One of the strong points of the business, is that they were upfront in telling us what they could do and what they could not do. It simplified the communication process, which is valuable when you're dealing with a number of other things for your wedding. A week before the wedding, we had an issue come up with obtaining a liquor license for our wedding. Being frantic we contacted our vendors to see if they can help us sort it out. Hott Catering jumped on it and was able to resolve our issue within less than 48 hours. This is one example of how they went above and beyond for our wedding. Working with HOTT Catering was great especially during the pandemic. Tho and Toan were communicative, always checked in on me if I wanted any changes and offered tastings. They drove all the way to the venue to see the layout and to see how they would perform the service, offered to cut the cake and provided the plates, bowls and cutlery etc. Now about the food, my now husband and I have been to many weddings and before planning the wedding we wanted to make sure we had the best food at affordable pricing to keep the guests happy. Most of the weddings we attended was the usual 1 or 2 dishes that was memorable out of 7 and it was usually lobster or duck. Since we didn't really love the full menu of all the weddings we attended, we decided to take a chance on this caterer based on his kindness, responsiveness, menu and price. In short, the food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and made me realize the other food at the weddings we attended were not as good or overpriced. All the guests complimented saying it was the best food they had and were full for 2 days. My husband and I were drooling seeing the exceptional beauty and smell of the food. One dish I want to talk about is the lamb dish because I am not fond of lamb, but we wanted fancy, so after tasting it and confirming it with our guests, the lamb did not taste the usual "lamby" kind of taste and more like beef. Quail, lobsters, scallop, abalone, filet mignon salad and Alaska Salmon were incredibly delicious as well. The caterer, servers and chef know what they are doing. I photographed a wedding this weekend catered by Hott, and immediately started trying to figure out when I could hire them to cater an event for me! I started getting excited when I saw the mountain of fresh mangoes they prepared for a salad on site, and by the time food was being served it smelled like heaven all through the venue. The food was delicious and fresh; I'm normally seafood averse, but everything that I tried was so good that I had seconds! I wish they had a restaurant so I could go get their walnut shrimp anytime I like. The staff were professional and courteous, delivering a multi-course meal to over a hundred guests so expediently that I even had time to eat, which doesn't always happen for us vendors. If you're looking for an 8- to 10-course Asian family style dinner for your wedding/event and your venue isn't at an Asian restaurant, then HOTT Catering is THE caterer to go with...except their food is SO MUCH better than what you would find at those typical restaurants. Trust us. The food is simply phenomenal. When we first went to the food tasting for our wedding back in July 2021, we were blown away. Every single item we tried was delicious and we booked them on the spot! We did have a slight concern about the quality being the same during our actual wedding since they would have to prepare and cook everything on a much larger scale, but oh man, they absolutely delivered! We just had our wedding in February 2022 and it was a mixture of Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese/Asian guests. And let us tell you, every guest that we talked to rave about the food!! In addition to the food being delicious, the presentation was beautiful and you can just tell that so much thought went into how the food was prepared. For example, lobster tails can be a total pain in the butt to eat (especially at weddings...I mean who wants to sit there trying to crack open the shells and getting their nice clothes dirty), but HOTT Catering does things differently! They actually dislodge the meat out of the shell so that it's super easy to eat. I have been to a handful of family style wedding receptions, and I've never seen lobster tails being prepared this way - it's genius!! I would recommend Hott Catering for all events. Their team provided food for our wedding reception and tea ceremony. I have never seen Vietnamese food done so professionally, and with such quality. The food is not heavy or greasing. They are easy to communicate with and very responsive. They are open to last minute orders and changes. I plan on using them for all future family event. It is just a plus too that I am also able to support a Vietnamese business. Loved working with this team! We tried their wedding samples at their pho restaurant and we hooked to have them cater our wedding. Having an 8 course meal for 210 people, Hott Catering was efficient and on time with their meals. We started with the crab soup and mango papaya salad, which were a great start to the meal. The main courses included abalone with mushroom, fish fillet, filet mignon, seafood fried rice, and last but not least the lobster with garlic noodles. The dessert that Hott Catering provided was sticky rice with jackfruit. Very unique and not that sweet, it went well with our wedding crepe cake as well! Everyone was raving about the wedding food. Had our dream wedding over the weekend and we are thankful to have anh Tho and his team as our cater. They are professional and always try to accommodate every request during the night. If you're not a fan of hosting a reception at any of the Asian restaurants around here due to subpar food, HOTT Catering will have your guests raving about how delicious the food is all night long and well after the wedding. I happened to stumble onto HOTT Catering while touring ceremony venues. We heard about them through the site coordinator at BRICK and latched on quick! Initially, we were going to have to order catering from the Orange County area (which includes a hefty travel fee) but HOTT Catering not only provided the delicious 9 course meals for my guests, they were local, too! Our menu consisted of the traditional courses like crab maw soup, seafood fried rice, garlic lobster noodles, etc. During the taste testing, my mother in law requested a steamed fish substitution for one of their beef dish and they were so nice and accommodated us. Overall, communication was fast and professional. They also took the time to meet my day of coordinator and toured the reception venue before the day of the wedding. The taste testing is also included in the quote if you book them for your wedding. They were generous enough to provide silverware and utensils since my reception venue did not provide anything at all. I am impressed by the professional and the devotion. One of our guest is vegan but she did not alert us that, thus, the chief did not have it in his plan. My daughter got married in April 2022 and we selected HOTT catering to handle the reception dinner in our backyard in Scripps Ranch. It was the best decision we made to have HOTT taking care of this 100-person event. We ordered shrimp cocktail & clam cups for pre-dinner mingling and 8 courses of food for dinner (Appetize, lobster soup, sesame salmon salad, bone-in lamb rack, steam Chile bass, lobster tail, fried rice with crab and scallop and dessert). All food was prepared on-site and served by a professional and friendly team; it couldn't be any better than that. We strongly recommend the lamb rack and Chile bass. If you're looking for superior gourmet Vietnamese/fusion food- give HOTT Catering a try!! It was such a pleasant and stress-free experience working with Hott Catering. I helped a family member coordinate a last-minute mini wedding 3 weeks ago and encountered many hiccups due to covid restrictions. We specifically wanted Vietnamese food but not just your typical fried rice and egg rolls. We wanted something a tad fancier and quality was our priority (like lobster tails and filet mignon). I contacted a handful of restaurants/caterers and even tried some of their dishes. Most of these places were more budget-friendly but their food was mediocre, they wouldn't deliver, or would charge a hefty price for delivery. The hardest challenge was finding a caterer that cooks/delivers early in the morning. Our event was at 10am and we needed the food to be delivered by 9am. I stumbled across Hott Catering through a friend's recommendation. I checked out their website and was instantly captured by their thoughtfully designed dishes and the types of services offered. To be transparent- the prices were a bit higher than what we had budgeted for. However, looking back on the quality of food and wonderful service we received from HOTT Catering, the splurge was well worth it! I worked directly with both Tho and Toan(brothers) and they were very accommodating throughout the whole planning process. Pros: -Very reliable and professional. -Punctual and responsive. Their restaurant/kitchen is located in San Marcos but our venue was 50 minutes away. We told them the delivery time- no questions asked! They said they would have the food there by the requested time- and they did! -Flexible and accommodating. Feel free to ask for their professional suggestions on menu selection, dietary restrictions, portion sizes, etc. Also, they were nice enough to let us borrow their stainless steel soup warmer for FREE (there was a deposit but it was returned to us the same day when we dropped off what we borrowed in its original form). -Depending on your event size, you also get to do food-tasting. We catered 8 dishes and were able to food-taste 6 of the 8 prior to the event. The dishes were delicious, especially when served fresh and hot right at the restaurant. Food-tasting was free for us since we booked them. Otherwise, you lose the deposit. -Friendly and detailed oriented. Planing weddings/events is extremely stressful, but it's such an added bonus when working with a super friendly vendor/caterer like HOTT catering! One potential chalenge -For those working with a lower budget, this option might not be ideal. However, for the quality and hassle-free experience, I personally think it's worth it. Traditionally, food is the way our friends and family bond so it was an absolute no-brainer to choose the family style dinner for our wedding. We had about 150 guests and not ONE left hungry. We had MANY people come up to us and say that the food at the wedding was one, IF NOT THE BEST, wedding dinners they have ever had. Many asked who the catering company was so they can hopefully book for their upcoming event. We even had our own personal server that came over to us during photos to offer us hors d'oeuvres and snacks!! (like omg, seriously! how sweet!) We hired HOTT for a wedding and omg the food was delicious!! We wanted to serve Vietnamese food for our wedding and found that there wasn't a lot of Vietnamese caterers in San Diego. Most Vietnamese caterers required that the wedding be held at their restaurant. We had an American/Vietnamese wedding and wanted to serve Vietnamese food at an American venue. The food really was a 10+ and HOTT provided everything from kitchen supplies, utensils, servers, condiments, and plates! The food was favorful and even the presentation was beautiful! I wish I could have known them sooner, chef Tho and Toan are both talented and patient to even the pickiest customer. As I know, both of them had an outstanding of experience in this field, they completely have my trust from serving a private party or a wedding with hundreds of people. Especially, they were flexible with my order while being able to make a separate vegetarian menu for a small number of people at a party that I know somehow took them some extra effort. About the service: I have never seen that solidarity of teamwork like that, the whole system from chef to the server they know what they're doing and they tried their absolute best to make your day happier. I got tons of compliments on their professional attitude. About the food: it's extraordinary. Their food made the crowd forget to drink, what a surprise! Soup, steak, walnut shrimp, lobster, quails, (dessert) jackfruit with sticky rice are completely delicious. The food came on time and it satisfied the audience's expectations. I was part of a wedding in marina village on March 12 that Hott catered. Hott was the most unprofessional and unhelpful caterer I have ever dealt with for a wedding. First of all, they did not even bring napkins even though they were providing all the plates and cutlery. So while the guests were being seated, I and the rest of the wedding party had to run around to pass out napkins to everyone. Then once the guests and bride and groom were seated, we noticed the candles at the bride's table had not been lit. Not a big deal - I went to the back to ask if anyone on the wait staff had a lighter or if there was one around. Instead of even trying to help, they just told me no one has a lighter and there aren't any in the building and then started giving me a lecture about how I shouldn't be bothering them and they do not want guests at the back. I just walked away and found their boss who was able to get me a lighter after all. Also, they were supposed to serve crab at the wedding and even put it on the menu for all the guests, but they only served shrimp and did not fix the menu. Your wedding can be a great day or a really stressful day. A lot of planning goes into a wedding and everything will not go right on that day. But the wedding will be really great if you have people involved who care about making the day the best it can be. Unfortunately Hott catering is not this kind of vendor. They only put in the bare minimum and I really recommend you avoid them if you do not want to have a stressful reception on your wedding day. read more

Wow, so many pretty dishes and the plating on this page is amazing. Unfortunately, it is all fake! A good analogy is those Instagram pictures with hella filters and editing compare when you see the real thing. You will be in shock to see that model on a vogue's cover looking like a nightmare in reality. But I have to give credit where credit is due, the food is not terrible at all. I would recommend them to people who are looking for a mediocre Asian meal, that is cheap and filling. However, if you want to minimize stress for your events, I would stay away. I don't know how they operate other events. But as a bridesmaid to a wedding that they catered, I was in a state of complete disbelief because of them. Imagine helping your cousins with the event and setting up the wedding to give them a day to remember. Then minutes before our guests arrive, the caterer say " YOU GUYS need napkins for your guests". One of the business owners promised the world , 'trust him things will be smooth', to collect money. The other showed up to say 'well I didn't promised that', well of course YOU didn't but your brother did! 'He said she said' and like that the bridal party is screwed! Instead of greeting the guests, we scrambled to find napkins at a nearby store. Then to apologize to the guests as you hand them those napkins like Benjamins because they are like a hot commodity. I really hope you, the owners, will not conduct business like this to your other customers. Spending $25-$50 on napkins for an event that you are collecting 15k-20k should be common sense. Your lack of business courtesy really screwed us over. I don't wish you guys any bad luck like no customers in the future. But I think you should work on your business morals before signing more contracts. Causing damages to other people's beautiful moments is simply not right! read more

I knew this place in some small forums on Facebook. It looked new but I saw many good reviews from customers on an ad. Therefore, I decided to order some Vietnamese foods to celebrate my grandmother's birthday. I think that's the correct name "the chicken wings with fish sauce". After tasting the seasoning options we both chose the trio medium. The combination of the spices and seasonings were absolutely perfect, unlike anything I've had before. After our good came, we also ordered seafood soup, my favorite. The texture was so mushy, not bland like my local restaurant. Love it!! read more

I would definitely not recommend this cater. These two brothers did not provide good customer service, are neither accommodating nor communicative to their clients. We booked this vendor 6 months in advance for our wedding back in August. We reserved the gold package and one of the dishes was the crab claw with minced shrimp, which my wife really liked because visually it looked nice at the taste testing. Two days before our wedding they called us to tell us that they cannot get crab claws from their suppliers and they are replacing the crab claws with shrimp and that they are doing us a favor by swapping out crab claws with shrimp because shrimp is more expensive than crab. We paid this vendor in full two weeks before our wedding and no where did they mention that they could not get crab claws from their supplier even though we booked them six months in advance. Its not like they are using fresh crab either, you would think they would buy their supplies for a large event like a wedding in advance and leave it in a freezer. We even went to Costco later that night and saw they had crab. On the day of the wedding they would not set napkins at the tables and claimed that it was not written in the contract even though we spoke to them before hand. I had to have my family members walk around and put out napkins on each plate. When I spoke to the little brother about this issue in the back of the kitchen he went and grabbed my wrist. I had to ask him why are you grabbing my wrist, I did not touch you. Luckily my brother-in-law was there and his older brother came in and his brother had to tell him to stop. Even his own staff saw the younger brother grabbing my wrist. The food at the wedding tasted horrible and did not taste like the food we had at the taste testing. At the end of the night we even had to clean up the tables because the vendor left. Otherwise we would have been charged by the hosting vendor for not properly cleaning. Part of a great dining experience is providing good customer service, which we clearly did not receive. These guys are petite and liars. Just food for thought, they were the former owners for Que Huong in City Heights and you should wonder why there business is no longer around. read more
