I made a house call with Hotwire when I discovered my dishwasher was leaking from the bottom left corner. They are prompt and up front with pricing. It is a $89 for diagnostic fee which goes towards repair if you choose to proceed. It was $469 (-%15 for yelp customer discount) to replace the lower arm assembly and seal. Yes, this is about 8x what it would cost to do the repair yourself, but minus the frustration. They asked for a $200 deposit. I made an appointment and stayed home from work - the technician did not show up the first time. I asked what was going on after the time window had passed - and he had fallen sick and had to cancel, which happens understandably, but I would have appreciated a heads up. Then, I rescheduled for the next day and confirmed - that also got cancelled. Clearly there is a bit of a gap of communication here. That being said, they took a small sum off for the inconvenience and completed a successful repair. read more

I shared a quick description of my trouble via a Yelp message to Hotwire and less than 10 minutes later I was able to schedule a visit on the same day. Though I couldn't manage the time that same day, the next business day a technician came out and diagnosed my issue. I contacted Hotwire Appliance last September for an issue with my dishwasher. Their technician diagnosed the problem as nothing more than a clamp. Before the repair was completed, the dishwasher started working normally again, the main issue was the door wouldn't stay closed during the cleaning cycle, so we waited for the repair. A few months later, the same issue returned, and I asked Hotwire to come back and complete the repair based on their original quote. They initially told me yes, after I approved the quote, someone else at the company refused it and said they needed to perform a new diagnostic. I pushed back because I knew it was the same issue and didn't want to pay for a technician to confirm that in five minutes. But since it was their policy, I agreed and paid the fee. As expected, the diagnosis was the same and they told me the diagnostic charge would be deducted from the repair cost if I moved forward. They did not deduct it. After the repair, I tested the dishwasher while the technician was still in my home. It ran once without any problems. When we tried to run it again a day later, the dishwasher wouldn't even turn on and hasn't turned on since. I reached out that same weekend and received extremely slow responses. The level of service dropped dramatically after I paid for the repair. I had to follow up two days later because no one got back to me. We eventually scheduled another visit for a 10-12 PM window. That time came and went with no call, no email, and no update. When I called them, they simply said the technician was backed up. When the technician finally arrived later that afternoon, he said the control board was fried. I told him clearly: We have never had this issue before your repair, and this was not the problem we originally called about. So a completely new problem appeared immediately after your work? He had no explanation. He said someone from the office would contact me with a quote for the new repair. It has now been a week, and no one has reached out. The customer service has been terrible since I received the initial service. I would not recommend this company at all. read more

Very much felt like I just got scammed out of $102 - I know I wasn't, but it sure feels like it. While I was told that there was an $89 diagnostic fee for the visit to fix the issue with my 3 1/2 year old LG Dryer, I was also told "Most repairs start around $150 depending on parts, and we offer a 15% discount on repair labor." Given that I had already said that both LG and myself had pretty much come to the conclusion that it was a heating sensor/motherboard/control board issue in my initial inquiry, and gotten a response with the "around $150" amount, I anticipated it MAYBE going up to 225/250 total. The tech got there, pretty quickly determined that it was in fact the control board issue that I had even told him what was likely the issue before he even stepped into my house. So imagine my surprise when I was quoted $577, which included a $40 discount because I used Yelp. The breakdown was $294 for the part - which would have had to have been ordered to begin with and $270 for the labor - mind you, the "labor" to fix this issue is about 10-15 mins of work: unscrewing a few screws, popping the top of the dryer off, unplugging the wires connected to the current board, unscrewing 1-2 screws holding the control board on to the frame, swapping the new board in, plugging the wires back in, putting the top on, and screwing the top back on to the frame - this is not a crazy amount of work - AT ALL - anyone who has ever plugged motherboard cables into a computer's power supply can do this... There was obviously nothing I could do about it given that I already knew about the $89 fee (which was actually $102), but I absolutely feel lied to when the actual estimate is 4x higher than the amount that was mentioned to begin with...ESPECIALLY given that the NEW dryer I just bought after this whole ordeal was under $560 including tax, delivery, and haul away of my old one. read more

Update: after my review I received several calls and texts apologizing for the miscommunication. Including offers to make things right for me. Today Alex came out and replaced the control panel at a discounted price, with free labor! I was sure I would have to replace my nearly new washer so they saved me quite a bit of money. Constantine came on time. He did a careful inspection over possible faulty parts and found some were near the end of life. He didn't push me to replace them immediately, instead he suggested to wait for a few more days to see if the error reoccurs and then he can come back to replace those parts. During the inspection he also explained some hvac knowledge to me. The visit charge is also affordable. I do recommend him and will hire him again if I need his expertise. Update: the heater stopped again after Constantine left. He arranged his coworker to come the next day and he spend a hour+ to double check if parts were functional and only changed one whose measure was near the lower end of working range.
