Went here for lunch on the 3rd of Jan and service was not great. The bartender was our waiter and although he was nice he was painfully slow. He took for ever to even take our order. We asked to get soup first and not only did we not get it first but the entire meal came after an extreme wait. Then to pay, we had to track him down to even get a bill. I would like to blame it on the fact that it was busy, but I can't, because it wasn't. I like this place but there are lots of choices and when people go fo lunch it's usually over a lunch hour so efficient service is a must. read more

Have been here a handful of times to include; lunch, dinner and happy hour. Food is descent, but I think the price is high for what you are actually getting. The atmosphere is nice and they have a nice patio. Just recently I was there for happy hour and apps, to my disappointment the service was terrible. Been there last weekend. Something really amused me. We were four with a kid. The hostess asked "Do you want a booth or would you like to be seated at the bar..?" I mean, who would seat their 2yr old at the bar.!? Well we ignored it all and got seated and ordered our food (appetizer and the main course with a kids meal as well). The main course came first for two. Then the kids meal. Then the other two entrées. Appetizer never came. We didn't ask coz already the food had come in late. The menu is very typical for an american steak house. They have a wide variety with pretty good consistency. I hit the bar late one night after working for some late night grub. Have to say the 'Small Plates' are creative and not what I'd consider to be typical bar appetizers. We tried the following: 1. Naked Chinese Dumpling kabobs with ginger lemongrass pork bites with peanut sauce . . . A very tasty 2. Thai Noodle bowl with ginger-peanut noodles (chilled), cilantro, basil, mint, napa cabbage, sweet & sour carrots with grilled spicy Thai barbequed shrimp . . . C - the shrimp didn't taste fresh:( 3. Wild Mushroom and Arugula FlatbreadV with white truffle vinaigrette . . . A+, my favorite 4. Goat Cheese & Artichoke PoppersV with fresh thyme and lemon zest . . . I LOVE Houlihans! Always a relaxing environment. Romantic and intimate even with their dim lighting. (This was mine and my boyfriend's first date place) I always pick to come here given the chance. :) I enjoy sitting in the dining area over the bar side. Service in the bar is pretty slow. The patio is awesome when it's nice out with the water fountain. I always order the BBQ chicken flatbread and the Thai wings. Amazing! The spinach artichoke dip and chicken Cesar salad is a usual for my best friend and my boyfriend always goes for the pork sliders and their nachos. Which is huge and super cheap on HH! The strawberry basil lemonade (adult beverage here) is my absolute favorite! Next would be any of their dangerous but delicious variety of Long Island pitchers for an awesome price. ;) Lastly, their S'more desert can never go wrong. I love it all. read more

I've been here more time than I can count. Always great food and great service. I've tried almost everything on their menu and have never had anything that wasn't great! I have even emailed the manager when my favorite item was taken off the menu. I received a prompt response and was given a gift card to try something else. Funny thing is a month later the item was back on the menu. Our server told us that many people complained it was gone, and Houlihans listened by putting it back. Ate there a few weeks ago.... ordered fish and the cole slaw was not good. First of all cole slaw is made with cabbage not lettuce. When I called this to the attention of our waitress, she seemed confused. So she went and got the manager. She brought me a bowl of the same lettuce concoction. The menu was way too wide-ranged and the prices were far too high for the quality. Not only that but both my friend and I got sick after eating there. Houlihan's was a place that early on in dating my wife we visited a lot. They used to make a killer margarita and serve a shot of Grand Marnier on the side. The food used to be better. The place used to be more fun, more a four star sort of joint. But years ago, their drinks changed, their menus changed (and changed again, and again, and again, and again) so that now it is just another chain place with little to distinguish it from the rest. I don't object to chains, but Houlihan's is now, and has been for a while, just average. I only continue to visit as it is a place that I can bring my kids to as well as other adults at the same time. Food is average, service is never terrible or awesome, most frequently just above average, or barely below average or just plain average. Lately it seems to have gotten more expensive as well. I know I'll be back here, but I don't plan on it, and don't look forward to it with any sort of passion - positive, negative or otherwise. read more

My daughter and I got the fettuccine Alfredo and the good time yum yum burger. The Alfredo was bland with big chunks of pepper. The burger had a really strong chargrilled flavor and taste that I didn't like at all. The server took my burger and I tried the pretzel sticks instead. The pretzels were...better. Terrible treatment of Veterans on Veterans Day. The website said they had a special menu for Veterans to order a free meal. When we arrived there was a sheet of paper on the front door that read the were not honoring veterans that day but to come back the next day for a hamburger and fries. We decided to stay with our two boys for a good meal because we were feeling good and wanted to share our military experience with them. We were very disappointed by our meal, my son ordered a hamburger but was very ill that night. My husband went back the next day and even though there was no sign saying they were proving free meals for Veterans my husband asked for the Hamburger and fries for Veterans this was definitely not the same as was on the menu. He also got sick that night. Houlihan's was definitely taking advantage of Veterans Day to get free publicity and we will not be back. read more

I was at Houlihan's for a late dinner and was happy with my meal. We shared fried goat cheese as an appetizer which was awesome, and then my meal was lettuce wraps. The food was ok, but probably my least favorite lettuce wraps I've ever ordered. It was a nice and quiet dinner though with no crowds or huge numbers of people to distract. I had the best experience at Houlihan's. Had Filet Mignon...just about the best I have ever had. Cooked to perfection! My Tuscan salad was so bomb! The service was great too. Brought my husband and step kids. My step daughter embrassed the hell out of me by scooping up her gaucamole and handing it to the waitress. The waitress had a good sense of humor and just laughed and said it was ok. I am sure she told that story later while laughing. She was awesome though. The nachos were good and so were the burritos. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone on a first date. The ambiance is what always gets me first. It had all that. Then comes the service and then the food. They had it all in line. Dive In! On a Saturday afternoon looking for a bar that had the Gopher's football (v. Wisconsin) game on - called, and was told "We're watching it right now - come on over!" So we did. Timeless American bar - nice selection of beer, the desired game on the screen. All very basic, but perfectly nice - the young woman tending the bar was busy and pleasant. We all had different modifications to our order, to no surprise the food came out wrong because she didn't WRITE IT DOWN. My wife, 4-year old son, and I visited Houlihan's on a Thursday evening around 7PM. Fortunately, we were able to get right in and opted to sit in the bar area in a booth. With the TV's in the bar area, that helps to keep a 4-year old entertained while waiting on food, so it worked out well. Fortunately, it wasn't very busy and there were no foul-language happy hour attendees in the bar at the time, so plus 1 for that. Our server was very friendly and was quick to take our order. Nothing special - a milk for junior, a soda for the wife, and a beer for me. All good there (although, the beer was over $8, which is atrocious for a tap beer). Anyway, upon opening the menu, I was amazed to see that not a single wrap was on the menu. I was hoping for a basic buffalo chicken wrap or anything not on a bun - no luck. So, I ordered the fish tacos, which were decent, but nothing special. My wife ordered some sort of salmon salad, which looked great, but she mentioned it was pretty bland and lacking any real flavor. Moreover, I tried a bite of her salmon, which was clearly frozen stock, as it was completely flavorless. For junior, we ordered the pasta and marinara option from the kids menu, which would have been fine, but the cook opted to put cilantro on the pasta, which to a 4-year old isn't welcome. Trust me cooks - anything off a kids menu should never have any sort of extra garnish on it - kids don't care, and it only creates a problem because they see something in their food that isn't normal and all hell breaks loose. Stick to bland and nothing special when it comes to kids menu items - that's exactly what kids are looking for. I gave only 3 stars because the food was mediocre at best and mostly lacking any sort of flavor. In this day and age, food needs to be remarkable, meaning I'm willing to make a remark about it because it's that good. Anything less than remarkable, and I might as well just go to McDonalds, which would be 1/10th of the price and my kid would enjoy it much more. Please update your menu, Houlihans, and for god's sake, add a Buffalo Chicken Wrap - that's a staple at any restaurant outside of fine dining, which you are not. read more

Horrible treatment of Veterans on Veterans Day. The website said they had a special menu for veterans but when we got to the restaurant with our two teenage boys proud to show off our service to our nation there was a sheet of paper on the front door that read they would be not be honoring veterans that day and to come back the next day. We stayed and ate anyway but wish we hadn't, my son had a burger that made him sick. My husband went back the next day there was no notifications that they were honoring veterans but he asked for the veteran hamburger and fries. Two bartenders one male friendly, the woman seemed like it was a chore to smile at all. She must hate her job. She thinks she is being classy and professional but really just comes across The kicker was an employee sitting by the sever well constantly correcting and telling the male bartender that we making drinks incorrect. He was drinking, answering the phone and on the micros. My drinks where fine and I've been a bartender since before both of them where born. Maybe I notice more because of the fact I'm in the business. Maybe not allowing your staff to sit at the bar after there shift in uniform would be A good idea.
