Houndstooth is a small coffeeshop chain which has locations in Austin and Dallas. The shop I go to most, is the one on Rock Rose at the Domain, as my wife works down the road from it. I've been going to this place on and off for just over a year. The staff are really nice and the place is kept clean and tidy. It has a simple, modern design which works, plus they also sell merch if you want a cup, hat or t-shirt! The location isn't very big, but there's plenty of seating inside, as well as outlets to use if you're going here to study, browse or just relax. They also sell a range of beer and wines, so you can get a lil chaser of your favourite tipple, which is great because it's open from 7am-9pm, so you can walk right out onto the main road which is full of bars if you want to keep the party going. The coffee is rich and tasty, plus they do a small selection of pastries and breakfast tacos (Tacodeli) in the morning. Warning, the Tacos go QUICK if you're looking start with the handheld bundles of joy. Overall, it's a great coffeshop for the coffee itself, its atmosphere, placement, and selection of drinks.

Houndstooth is in all likelihood the best coffee shop at the Domain. Specializing in high quality beans and offering a rotating selection of single origin espresso, the baristas working there are usually knowledgeable and, so far, after several years visiting, have never messed up a coffee order of mine. The overall ambiance is casual and the staff is a special kind of blasé hipster you almost exclusively find working in third wave coffee shops. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, because you can usually count on these individuals to do their job well. Just don't expect too much enthusiasm and you won't be disappointed. The location on Rock Rose Ave is convenient and the shop stays open a bit later than some other businesses around. Kudos. The only thing missing to Houndstooth is a soul. It could be more cozy and welcoming. But if you're just going for the coffee, it's great.

I've come a couple times with friends to study/hang out. It's not terribly busy on the weekends, especially if you come early around 9am. Their menu looks pretty solid but I've only had their matcha latte and it hits the spot. The default is unsweetened but you can ask for honey/sugar and the latte comes out warm. If you like your drinks hot, def let your barista know.

I met a new friend here and absolutely loved it. My chocolate chai latte was made to perfection and incredible! Probably my favorite in Austin tied with Patika. The bean n cheese taco I ordered also hit the spot and was from Taco Deli. Highly recommend that too. The baristas were nice and answered my friends questions. The atmosphere was chill with a mix of college aged and CEO type folks. I'll be back for sure!

The good: really good coffee. I tried the coffee and lemonade combination and it tasted pretty good, I don't think there's a place that can pull off this combo well The bad: The wifi, even when connected, was so slow that I had to use the internet from the Sweetgreen next door. Also, all of the charging ports were for USB outlets, which meant I couldn't charge my laptop while working.

We had a matcha latte and an americano (time piece blend). I was surprised on how fast both drinks were made, which made me a bit doubtful about their quality. The matcha was OK, nothing different from any other place. The americano was smooth but the water added was too hot, had to ask for ice to bring it to drinking temperature. Service was polite but my daughter saw the barista pull something out of his teeth with his fingers right before making my coffee ... The space is small, modern and quiet enough for study or to have a conversation.

I work around the area, but I rarely come to Houndstooth because I love trying new coffee places. My boyfriend and I stopped by before my work to grab a coffee, and I was really impressed with their classic iced vanilla latte. The flavor was perfect, and it was just as creamy as I typically prefer it. I will definitely keep Houndstooth in mind the next time I'm in need of caffeine and at the Domain. Their staff is really friendly too, and I ADORE their chocolate chip cookies with sea salt.

I ordered the cold brew and thought it was just okay! The seating area wasn't very comfortable - most tables were high-tops or wooden benches. It's an easy stop if you're in the Domain already but would not consider this a destination.

I adore Houndstooth! Whenever I'm in the domain and need a pick me up, their coffee is always consistently good and well made. The setting is very cute and there are some tables to lounge around in if you need to rest or study for some time. The staff has always been friendly to me, and is very helpful and accommodating. Stopped by Houndstooth for morning cups of coffee. We ordered a Chai and Lavender Oat Milk Latte, both hot. We were greeted upon entering and had our orders taken right away. I went with the lavender oat milk latte that many people have raved about in their reviews. My person ordered a chai latte. Both drinks were hot and delicious. Houndstooth is definitely a place I'd stop by again. It's very spacious inside and the vibe is chill, eclectic, and minimal if that paints a picture in your head. They have variety of mugs, and other cups available for sale. And parking is alongside the street, there is a parking garage within The Domain. Another Domain coffee stop, but, this one has a trick to play as it doubles as a bar with a full shelf and a selection of canned craft beers. I was very happy with the service, the barista shared some suggestions with me as well as informed me that if I return to buy a second bag of beans there is a discount on an iced coffee. Impeccably clean inside. Very modern and catering to the tech crowd with plenty of charging points. Coffee was delicious and not overpriced, about $6. Beans however are an investment. I paid $33 after tax (before tip) for my drink and 12 oz of beans.

Great place to get some work done!! despite being in a busy area of the domain, the atmosphere inside is still relatively quiet enough to sit down and do some work or catch up with someone! I've only been on weekdays, so that probably is part of the reason as I've never seen the weekend crowd, but everything is always really nice and clean, and I've never had a problem getting any seating! I don't know much about coffee but the baristas do and are really great at recommending things too / they're great at latte art!!! read more

Super disappointed in my latest visit. I have been visiting this houndstooth for years on and off buying coffee and beans but has the most bizarre experience being cut in line and the employees just kept saying "we'll be right with you". I had been standing in line behind a larger group, the employees saw me and another person walked up in front of me as the group left and the staff took his order. A second person called the attention to another employee and made another order, all while continuing to smile and say "we'll be right with you". Needless to say, I walked out and ordered coffee at Bakery Lorraine. I won't be back to Houndstooth. read more

Sadly doesn't measure up to the quality of the area. No outlets, long waits, ok coffee, and the worst food selection of the area. Would recommend Summer Moon, Machinehead, Ebar, even the Starbucks reserve down the street before pointing people this way. read more

Came on a Saturday afternoon, hoping to get some work done. It's a one-employee coffee shop with slow service. It has a full bar, which is interesting for a coffee shop, but zero outlets. So unless you feel like unplugging an espresso machine, good luck charging your laptop. Would not be coming back. read more

My husband enjoyed the coffee he had here twice. I had an issue with the way their vanilla tastes. I liked the iced latte, but the hot latte wasn't the best. It was luke warm and I like my coffee hotter than that. read more

No electric plugs in a coffee shop?!? Came in for a coffee and to chat with my friend and share photos from a baby shower she had photographed only to find that there were only usb outlets for a charge. I was informed that they are working to build a space where people engage with each other but this made it difficult for me to do with my friend in their space. And why are cell phones okay and nothing else? Do they not distract everyone from each other in the same way? Overall felt pretentious, hypocritical, and exclusionary. Hoping this helps others avoid the experience and encourages Houndstooth to rethink. Let your customer choose how to engage in your space! read more

Good place to meet as it was pretty empty. It was pretty calm but it not cozy. Very in and out with plenty of seating. I would go there to just meet people not really a place which stood out to me. Maybe just not my type of coffeehouse to spend couple of hours. read more

Great coffee and margaritas if you are looking for either in a chill environment on Rock Rose. My biggest complaint about this place is that they intentionally do not have wall outlets available so they force you out faster if you are like me and like to sit and work at coffee bars for a while. read more

The inside of the restaurant was nice very similar to the previous Coffeeshop Apanas Coffee except they added a table or to or just moved some tables around but either then that it is pretty much the same as Apanas. the staff was very nice as well as Sean the shopkeeper I got a Hot Chocolate which is reguraly $4 but i got it free from a free beverage token. the Hot Chocolate was good not really piping hot but hot enough they do serve Pastries and Breakfast Tacos the Breakfast tacos is from Tacodeli not sure where they get the pastries from as i have not had a taco or pastry there it is a good location I hope this one makes it read more

Great coffee and a great spot to post up for hour. Reasonable prices and the staff are friendly. Staff went out of their way to recommend a great spot to take my son for dinner and even told me the best dishes on the menu. We followed their advice and had a great evening out too. read more

Great place to sit and chill or do a little work. However, there is not a single outlet in this whole place. Instead there are a bunch of USB ports on the walls. Great if you want a quick phone charge but not so much if your laptop battery life isn't great. read more

Stopped in during halftime from the super bowl watching a cross the street and was shocked that no one was inside here. They have a great bar! I ordered the chocolate latte and it was delicious. When I took it back to the place I was watching the game, everyone wanted to know what was that delicious aroma. So worth it. Very cool looking spot with a modern look and a nice bar. Seating looks nice as well; however coffee is very average, and there are no power outlets to charge your device (only usb plugs) Definitely would recommend other coffee shops in the area such as summermoon. read more

There is an abundance of seating both indoors and outdoors. You can meet a colleague like me, enjoy a coffee with a friend or family member. Free parking in a nearby parking garage or on the street makes a Bakery Lorraine visit very convenient. Service was quick and efficient. Hey y'all! I just had the pleasure of checking out Houndstooth Coffee and I have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed. I visited on a midday Saturday and while there was no line, the place quickly filled up with customers - which is always a good sign. One of the things that stood out to me about Houndstooth was the variety of beverages they had to offer. Not only do they have an impressive coffee selection (including espresso, drip coffee, pour-over, and more), but they also have beer and cocktails available. I don't know about y'all, but sometimes I need a little something stronger than caffeine to get me through the day, and Houndstooth has got me covered. The environment at Houndstooth is perfect for getting work done or catching up with friends. Our drinks - a latte and an Americano - were weak and lacked the robust flavor we expected from a specialty coffee shop. When we requested iced water, we were directed to a self-serve station with only room temperature water available. The atmosphere didn't help matters. The barista appeared more interested in socializing with friends lounging at the counter than serving paying customers. This lack of professionalism made for an unpleasant experience overall. This coffee shop and bar is a hidden gem I recently visited in the afternoon. The cozy and modern ambiance made it an inviting spot to stop by. I tried a seasonal drink with cinnamon in the name--while I don't remember the exact title, it was delicious and perfect for the season. The barista was friendly and very knowledgeable, even suggesting an Irish cream liqueur to add to the drink.
