I've tried a variety of their offerings including the raspberry swirl bread, raspberry roll, Grandma's white bread, sourdough bread , cinnamon roll, chocolate chip cookie, gluten-free chocolate chip cookie, and Noble Coyote brand coffee which is a local roaster located in Dallas. I also tried two of the sandwich options one was the veggie sandwich and the other was the pizza grilled cheese sandwich, my favorite sandwich was the veggie sandwich. My son had the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and loved it. What stands out most is their commitment to using fresh, high-quality ingredients without cheap fillers or preservatives. The breads are flavorful and wholesome though occasionally a bit firm if not baked that same day, which is expected with preservative free baking. I've learned to time my visits with their baking schedule to get the freshest, softest loaves. The service is always friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting -- like a cozy mom-and-pop deli. The shop is clean and also offers a charming selection of extras like local honey, jams, tea towels, sourdough starters, pizza dough, olives, and pickled veggies. We stopped by for a quick breakfast and were in and out pretty fast. The coffee was really, really good, and the dishes were tasty. My kids' pediatric dentist across the street recommended this place to us! This place will be our new after dentist visit tradition! They had fun Halloween themed cookies: my son got the ghostly snicker doodle cookie and my daughter got herself a spooky spider double chocolate cookie. BOTH DELISH. Well I went with high hopes but they were unfortunately dashed.. we ordered a croissant which had was not fully baked, I could see the raw dough in the inner most layer.. we ordered a couple of savory items. Whilst the flavor profile was good, the whole wheat bread was dry and chewy. The ham sandwich also had uncooked interiors dough as well. I love a good bakery and the fresh baked goods smell wafting through the air definitely pulled me in. The staff were extremely cordial. I decided to try the HOB Club on Sourdough and I also got a small Chocolate Zucchini Bread and one Plain Cinnamon Roll. There are so many items to choose from I could have kept ordering trust me! I moved to this area a few months ago and I have been wanting to try this place ever since. Today I finally had the chance to visit. Everything smells really good and there are a lot of options. I picked out what I wanted and waited at the counter. I was never greeted or acknowledged when I came in, but no biggie. However, waiting at the counter to make my purchase felt a little awkward, since the only person in the store was only about 5 feet away. So then I spoke up to get their attention. They came over, rung me up, stated the total and walked away. No pleasantries no hello/goodbye, thanks for coming in, nothing. Picked up few breads through the app Too Good Too Go(try it if you haven't) . Ordered previous evening and they have a specific window of 8-9am for pick up! Got 5 different breads, two croissants, one chocolate bread, cinnamon bun, apple pie(???) . They were ok! Nothing wow about them. What bothered me the most was lack of labeling the items. Both the croissants looked the same but one of them had nutella/chocolate filling in them which you have no way of telling unless you bite. That might be the idea behind not knowing what you picked up, but you should atleast know what you got after picking up! read more

This is perhaps an unpopular opinion. But I did NOT like my 20.00 (with chips and drink and tip) sandwich I got from house of bread. I got the spicy blt with avocado- and the sandwich was dry with no mention of mayo, ect. There was some kind of spicy sauce which I assumed would be all over the sandwich- but nope it was in a weird clump just in the middle. The bread was good, but I would not ever go back for a sandwich. Drinks were only bottles of soda or juice or tea. Not a huge selection of chips either. I would maybe come back for some fresh baked goods. But the sandwiches are meh at best. read more

Was excited to try this place after I got off work only to find out they closed earlier than the time that was on the door. Google and the door of the establishment says open until 6 on weekdays. I could tell that there were regulars here when I first walked in. All so friendly, just chatting it up with the staff. You can get lunch cafe items here or stock up on your bread for the week. I'm partial to a nice cinnamon bread and the clerk readily gave me a sample to try and asked if I wanted a special butter to top it off with! I love supporting these kind of spots that are just spreading slowly across the country. If you happen to buy a loaf of bread, they will be happy to hand slice for you. Updating the review to say that the sourdough starter was very weak. I could not get it to thrive. I gave up on it.

First time today & ordered a half GF sandwich which was very hardy and fresh! Tried the GF scone for dessert and bought choc zucchini bread and blueberry muffin for later. The hard part about eating GF is it doesn't taste like normal food but one would expect the bread to hold together. My sandwich fell apart completely and bread was so crumbly it wA like a cracker! Since I had to drop off library books, I thought I'd stop by Houso Bread (name changed after new owner - kind of fishy?!) for breakfast. Only two people in the shop at 8:30 am so I should have known. Egg and sausage sandwich on sourdough was not good. Egg and sausage both seemed like they were from a frozen pack of food and when I looked at the sourdough bread ingredients, sourdough starter wasn't even listed. I felt so cheated after spending $11 on a lousy sandwich in the name of "supporting local." This is the second time I've tried them, the second time I've been disappointed. read more

It's really a house full of breads. Homemade breads are really nice to have. But if you already informed the people from the counter that they fly went on top of the breads, then you just got acknowledged and didn't do anything about the breads that the fly stayed on, that's unsanitary. Choose the breads that are on the wooden shelves, the ones with the plastics so you'll somehow be sure that no flies went on top of it. It was our first time to be here to get us a homemade breads for the weekend, but it disappointed me how they simply didn't do anything. I hope those breads are just display breads even if in my heart I know it's not. Flies can contaminate any food, especially bread! read more

I'd been wanting to try this place and happened to be in the area and stopped. It was the end of the day, not a lot of selection. I decided to try a loaf of the blueberry swirl bread and was very disappointed; I paid 10.00 for a loaf of dry, chewy bread with very few blueberries. I didn't want to throw it in the trash, but after having a slice at room temp and then trying a slice from the toaster, I finally gave up and tossed it in the trash. Great addition to McKinney! We stopped here last Saturday (5/7/22) for lattes (which were pretty decent), and I cane back on Wednesday (5/11/22) for bread. So glad I did!!! The chocolate zucchini was just out of the oven at 9:35am I purchased two small loaves of the Chocolate Zucchini bread, one small loaf of the Lemon Zucchini bread, and a loaf of the Jalapeno Jack. THEY ARE ALL FANTASTIC!!!! I have an autoimmune disorder, and I will pay for sampling them, but totally worth it. The zucchini breads literally melt in your mouth. The Jalapeno Jack is terrific toasted (or not!) and slathered with butter. My significant other plans to try every item available. I also want to point out that both times I've been here I have been greeted as soon as I walk in the door, and all employees have been courteous and helpful. Concept is good - store with a variety of bread types. Problem is, they don't know how to make some kinds. Their croissants are as chunky as loaf bread and not flaky at all, baguettes have a top layer that is not crusty, and bagels are not chewy. I hesitate to try other bread products but I did get a bottle of spicy Mediterranean dipping oil which was good. If you're just after ordinary bread, then this place is fine. But for what they're charging, I hoped for better quality. read more

Sooo disappointed. 1) Coffee. Mediocre. No half/half. See photo for what they had. Chose the whole milk (not the sugary flavored stuff). The milk separated and bits floated to the top meaning it wasn't fresh. 2) Breakfast sandwich. See photo. The egg was a "slab" of preformed egg that I am guessing they buy frozen? Couldn't even get half of it down. 3) Cinnamon roll. Bit into roll then had to pull the roll away from my mouth in an attempt to break off a piece. The roll was that hard! Couldn't eat even half of it either. Major fail across the board. Won't be back. read more

I saw this store like a million times, passed by so many times. This is in the neighborhood I live but was always reluctant to stop by. Finally I tried their freshly baked breads! I got a sourdough bread last weekend and this weekend I got gluten free sourdough bread. Honestly these breads were bulky, dint smell like sourdough, dint taste like sourdough either and super expensive for the size and quality. The Whole Foods sourdough tastes much better and worth the $. Not sure if I'd go back here. The breads really disappointed me! read more
