While conveniently located, and hostmanship is fine, the homemade cigars are of marginal quality. Since "labeled" cigars are forbidden, one would think the tobacco be of fine growth. I did not find this to be the case. Furthermore, there are neither 60 rings nor bold flavors, both of which are my go-to's. At a minimum price of ~$32.00 a stick, with the narrow selection availability, I found the experience unfavorable. This is a great shop for the Macanudo smoker that enjoys paying too much. It's been just over a year now since I stepped into the HOC and you wouldn't believe how many times I've been back. I'm now a proud locker member and am always recommending to friends and business members. It's a great place for a business meeting or a time to relax or catch up on work. I can't say enough good things about the House of Cigars. It's something you just have to experience. The cigars are amazing, Willie and Nicole are super friendly as well as knowledgeable and helpful. In fact, Nicole can usually tell exactly what I need by observing me when I walk in. It is BYOB but all patrons are so nice they are always happy to share. They have amazing espresso (complimentary), sodas, (complimentary), real glassware and it all adds to the class of the place. Friday nights have live music that you will love. Cigar shops may abound, but not like this one. If you like name brands that may or may not have a good draw, sit on a shelf a long time, drink from plastic, pay a cutting fee and pretty much hang with yourself because people aren't like "family", don't come to HOC. But if you're looking for a special place that's in a class by itself, you must check it out. read more

How have I been missing this place when they're so close?? They hosted my apartment building (Fiori) for a private event last night and I was really impressed. I have a couple regular cigar lounges that I've visited in Richardson/Dallas and this is at least on par with those from a quality standpoint. WOW! No other word so closely defines the experience of House of Cigars on a Friday night. Nicole and Willie are some of the most approachable cigar shop owners I have ever been around. Nicole not only spent time asking us what we were drinking so she could better recommend cigars to pair with but also checked in on our group throughout the night. The lounge sitting area is well ventilated and very comfortable. The Latin Jazz band on Friday nights is killer. I recommend getting there about 9:45/10 because the seats fill quickly. Music starts around 10:30ish. Why are you still reading this? H.o.C. rolls their own smokes, services what they sell, is BYOB and has great music on Friday nights. Unique spot as far as cigar shops go. I was confused at first, but learned that these guys only sell house-made cigars, there are no labels you'll know here. That said, the team was very helpful in helping me pick one I'd like based on my other preferences. The prices were a touch higher than I'd usually spend, but the burn was slow and tight, so it lasted longer than I expected. They're rolling live most every day, and the owner even showed me the recipe cards for various blends, so you know what you're getting. Hours are a little tight if you want to visit after work, but it's worth checking them out to see their dozens of signature choices. read more

Went here on a Friday night and had a great time. Willie and Nicole are very welcoming and the latin jazz is so cool and relaxing. Crowd is an eclectic mix of retired dudes, musicians, 30 something cool kids, and everyday joes. A truly diverse group bonded by good music and great smokes. The cigars are unlike any that you have had, no heavy smoke and overwhelming odor. They are hand rolled and extremely fresh. Everybody is smoking but it doesn't feel like it. BYOB is a must but Nicole made some tasty sangria when I was there and everybody shares what they bring. Almost feels like you are not in Dallas with this place, really cool. This is a GREAT spot! I stopped in yesterday just to "look". It was right up the street from my office and had good reviews. Parking is good and easy. I was greeted immediately upon entering. What a great place. An extremely knowledgeable staff, an extensive selection of very reasonably priced cigars. Best Cigars In Dallas.... Do you need to know more? Seriously. These are hands down the best sticks you'll find anywhere. I can't smoke anything else. All cigars are rolled in house using organic tobacco so they're 100x cleaner then anything else. No cardboard flavor the next day. I used to smoke Padrons and Diamond Crowns but now I can't even appreciate those. Most sticks are between $10-$20 each. Ambiance is awesome. Great people. The owners are fantastic and always happy to help you pick the best stick for you. Filtration setup is really impressive so my wife, who is asthmatic, can actually hang out here comfortably. Happen to be in Dallas area today and was referred here by a good friend. Was disappointed to discover they are closed on Mondays, but the owner or Mgr was inside with a vendor and to my surprise instead of mouthing "we're closed" at me, which I expected, he opened the door and said come in! I told him I was passing through and stopped in by referral, but I don't think it mattered--he immediately proceeded to give me an entire tour of the place, explain how they make and roll their own cigars, how their cigars are different from commercial cigars. Then, after asking me some key questions about what I liked, what specific cigars do I regularly purchase, etc. he made several recommendations, explaining his choices in detail. The lounge is cozy and modern, and they attract friendly, attractive customers. BYOB. I don't know what the deal is with ventilation, but my wife can only faintly smell cigar smoke on me when I get home from a cigar run. I travel around the entire USA a lot on business, and everywhere I go, I look for cigar lounges. I found this lounge in Dallas and thought I'd look in. I was greeted by Nicole (she and her husband Willie own the place) and she offered to help me pick out a cigar. I was amazed to find that there were no cigars there except the ones they make themselves. Their cigars have no bands, either. Nicole told me that they don't put bands on because everyone smokes their cigars right down to the fingers. I thought, "Yeah, right..." Then Nicole began to tell me that their cigars are better than everyone else's because they don't have to use insecticide fumigation on their cigars, and everyone else does. All tobacco has tobacco weevil eggs on the leaves, and if the cigars get warm and dry enough, the eggs hatch and the weevils eat holes in the cigars and ruin them. So, all the cigar makers fumigate their cigars because they won't be able to control the environment of their cigars when they leave the factory. But Nicole's company only makes small batches which they can control. Keeping the cigars cool and humid keeps the eggs from hatching and therefore they need no insecticide. Nicole said that the insecticide is what makes cigars taste harsh and metallic (the insecticide is aluminum based) and why a cigar sometimes makes one sick to the stomach. Again, I was doubtful, thinking that I probably wouldn't notice any difference between a fumigated cigar and one that wasn't. Nicole asked me about my cigar preferences and I told her that I liked a medium-bodied cigar with a touch of sweetness. She steered me to a robusto that she said was exactly that, a medium with a sweet Dominican wrapper, cost about $13, which is reasonable for a lounge. I also asked about getting a Coke to drink with the cigar, since I find that drinking something with a cigar helps to tame the harshness that most cigars have at least some of. Nicole said she would sell me the Coke, but suggested that I drink water or coffee instead. She said that water and coffee both help the taste buds open so that the full flavors of the cigar can be enjoyed. She offered to make me an espresso, so I took her up on it. So, I began smoking. SHE WAS RIGHT on every point! That cigar was the best cigar I've ever smoked! Not merely a little better than some others, but best by far! It paired perfectly with the espresso, and I smoked it until it began to burn my fingers. Usually, I let a cigar go when it's down to the last third or last quarter, but for this one I considered finding a roach clip! The nastiness that I just thought was a part of tobacco wasn't there because the insecticide wasn't there. The perfection of the blend and the sweetness of the wrapper told me that Willie and Nicole know their stuff! The only problem now is that I'm spoiled! When I go to a cigar lounge in another city, I'm not going to find a House of Cigars cigar! I'm going to have to settle for a Davidoff, Cohiba, Ashton, Rocky Patel, or Romeo y Julieta. I'm definitely going back to House of Cigars any time I'm anywhere close to Dallas! read more

My girlfriend and I were in the area over the weekend and, as is my habit, I explored the local cigar shops. This one stood out because they had their own line, so I was looking forward to checking it out. The shop itself had a decent ambiance, although it was a bit too trendy for my tastes. I couldn't see myself relaxing with a stick in-shop. We were were immediately greeted and shown to the humidor, where the man told us about their tobaccos and in-house rollers--I found the organic, no pesticides angle to be a bit gimmicky, but whatever. He asked my preferences and recommended some cigars based on that. Customer service was unequivocally great. Now, I was a bit jarred by the price range of these cigars. The cheapest of the lot was $8.50, and I stopped looking at numbers when I saw $36--yeah, sorry, but nothing less than a pre-embargo, perfectly maintained Cuban should command that kind of bloated price. But I hate leaving a cigar shop empty handed, so I grabbed one of the $8.50 sticks and immediately stowed it in my travel humidor for the ride back to Beaumont. After resting in my home humidor a few days, I decided to light it up, and this is where my low review comes from. Upon cutting with my very sharp Xikar, the foot essentially came apart, the cap came off, and the wrapper began to unravel. I had to wet it down with spit to prevent further unraveling, and after lighting, I had to baby the thing during the whole smoke, and even so, it burned incredibly uneven. When I say uneven, I'm talking one of the most wonky burns I've ever experienced. By the time I extinguished it, one side was about an inch long, the other was about two inches long. The draw was very loose as well, and despite having an admittedly great flavor, the construction was so poor that it was almost impossible to enjoy. Even without the construction issue, I didn't consider it twice as good as my go-to $4 sticks. All in all, I was incredibly disappointed in this stick. For $8.50 I'd expect the cigar to be constructed properly, or at the very least not practically fall apart in my hands and maybe even burn evenly in a no-wind environment. Perhaps my bad cigar was a fluke, given all the positive reviews for them, but I'm more inclined to think it's a case of the "it's better because it's expensive!" mentality that I saw quite a bit of in all but one of the Dallas area cigar shops I visited. As a rule, I usually give a bad cigar a second chance due to the fact that they're handcrafted and anomalies happen, but when you present yourself as a top of the line boutique cigar shop, I really at least expect even the "bad" cigars of the batch to not begin to fall apart as soon as I cut it. I hate that I had to give them such a bad review because the customer service, and indeed the flavor of the cigar, were quite good, but ultimately the quality of the product is paramount, and a poorly constructed cigar is just a bad cigar. If I lived closer, I may be inclined to give them a second chance, or at least stop by to discuss it with the owners, but since it's a five hour drive, I'm not out there very often, and when I am I know at least one other cigar shop in the area that has better prices, better selection, and, in my opinion, a less pretentious atmosphere, I can say I definitely won't be giving House of Cigars a second chance. Sorry guys, but I work too hard for my money to spend it on style over substance. read more
