The good: I have never had a gel manicure last as long without chipping as the ones I've gotten from this salon. Truly never. I've had manicures from here last almost a month without chipping. Eventually, I just needed to get them redone because my nails grew out. This is the place to go for durability, BUT they have a pretty limited color selection so it's a no go if you're on the hunt for juuuuust the right shade. The bad: Pedicures on the other hand? Less than 2 weeks until the polish just totally peeled off on its own. Not even chipped, I just took my shoes off after work one day and 6 of my toes had no polish on them at all anymore. Weird. The ugly: On my first visit, I handed the woman who did my manicure my card to charge the manicure on, and a $20 (cash only tip here like most salons) and asked for $15 back. She clearly didn't understand me but didn't ask for clarification. So she charged a part of the total to my card and used the cash to pay. When I tried to explain that wasn't what I wanted (because I was trying not to stiff her on the tip), she said she would cancel the previous charge, then ran my card again, then still didn't give me back the change I wanted. Low and behold, when I checked my credit card statement there were 2 charges from this salon, she never successfully canceled the first transaction. The nice thing about credit is you can just contest the charge and get your money back. It was a language barrier issue, but double charging your clients really is an egregious error. I'm not saying NOT to go here (I have been back), just be careful about having exact change or paying and tipping in totally separate transactions. read more

Recently I self removed acrylics that is had on/filled since November. Today I had enough looking at my weak nails and scheduled an apt during my lunch hour. Phone review: answered the phobe quickly and was very kind and accommodating. When I arrived there were 2 ladies working. I was immediately seen for my pedicure. Pedicure was amazing! The lady working on me was very attentive and thorough. The other woman, the new owner, realized I was there on my lunch break and started on my nails. GREAT SERVICE! I knew they had enough time to complete both my toes and my nails but I can smudge toes 3 hours later. So I asked to come back after work to finish my toes. Got tons of compliments on the nails from my coworkers. I returned after work to more great service. They helped me pick my color, dried my toes and checked them and bagged me up to leave. Service is great all around. And my nails and toes are polished to perfection. I will def be coming back! read more

Pissed. I can't believe I paid an extra $20 for gel and they came out this shitty. Shorty didn't even paint my entire nail. I got white nails and they already have a yellow tint to them. A total of $47 plus tip down the drain. I will definitely not be coming back here. Because I don't like to cause a scene I kindly paid the woman and left to immediately write this review. *Cash tips only* They accept credit cards and the receipt has a line for you to add the tip but will only accept cash tips. This place was AWFUL! My God...first, the nail tech was running about ten minutes behind...then she took a HOUR & a HALF to do a gel manicure. The place is so unsanitary in my opinion...nothing was clean. I noticed she used the same towel for me as the last woman. After all that, the gel wasn't dried enough so my nails had all ripples in them. I usually go someplace else & I will most definitely not be back here. Not to mention, there were two woman customers in there getting drunk off the wine & champaign they brought for themselves & were so loud ...apparently they are now "regulars" and felt the need to tell everyone how wonderful this place is. Update: I went back another time since this review, and I appreciate that they take walk-ins and their prices, but twice now my toes have been cleaned a little "too" deeply, resulting in minor bleeding and a sore toe for days afterwards. All in all, I'd been there over 6 times, and this has only happened twice, but for me I will think twice about returning.... These ladies rock! I've been coming here for years and they're well priced ($23 for a pedi/$34 for both- much nicer price than the "co." At the landing) and have decent massage chairs. My mom and I just moved into the neighborhood and we were hoping to find a nail salon close to the house so she wouldn't have to tromp into town and I wouldn't have to waste a lunch hour getting pedicures. Nail Essence not only offers a wonderful pedicure (and they do nail art too) but they have an extremely friendly staff and the place was very peaceful on a late Friday morning. Great little spot in Medford for treating yourself! They can almost always take you on if you just walk-in, but I would recommend making a reservation if there's more than 3 people in your party. The place is pretty small so if you want to have a large gathering this might not be the best place (there are 4 pedicure chairs and 4 separate manicure stations). They provide you with a long calf and foot massage (for pedicure), including hot stones and a thorough exfoliation. My girl was gentle with the tools and didn't hurt me at all! She paid just the right amount of attention to me when I wanted it and otherwise let me read my magazine in peace. I really enjoyed the rose-scented massage lotion they used! The place is clean and accommodating of all my bulky snow gear and they have always given me a nice pedicure. I do recommend being careful for the rest of the day with your nails, though. Went to get a manicure by Karen (who I think owns the joint). As she begun working on my nails, I soon realized she was horribly sick. She had to stop painting my nails a few times to try and control her sneezing fits and at one point almost feel into a deep sleep waiting on my nails to dry. I was also expecting paraffin wax treatment, as I had in the past and it seems like they no longer do it. I wish I'd known she was sick prior to getting my nails done because I'd have gladly declined getting them done by her and waited for someone else. Suffice to say I'm now sick and am pissed she didn't have the common sense to stay home. For this reason, I will never come back. Word of advise to Karen - stay home the next time you are sick and avoid spreading your germs onto your clients. read more

I wish I took the other reviews seriously. This was a really bad pedicure experience. I decided to go here since I needed a walk in appointment and wasn't able to get one at Medford Nail Bar (a great place). I called ahead and showed up during what I had thought would be prime time. The place was entirely empty, with the exception of the owner, kicked back with his bare feet up, and an ~11 year old boy flung across a pedicure chair. It was also terribly hot and looked dirty. The pedicurist (nice enough, but not much English) came out from the back and filled up the foot well, which was not lined in plastic and did not look clean. I saw hairs on it. She left for a while, so long that the water turned cold and would have overfilled had I not called out. She was rough with filing and brushing. The hot stones were nice, but my skin felt pretty irritated when it was all done. The painting wasn't awful but wasn't precise, either. The owner left and did not return. I tried to pay for a while, but the manicurist was distracted playing with her hair in the mirror. I wont be returning here, but hope they figure out their issues. read more

Great pedicure! $25 for a 45 minute pedicure complete with massaging chair, very attentive service, hot stone massage on my legs, and a great looking pedicure. The salon itself is ok - pedicure chairs are clearly new but the rest of the place could use some TLC. This is probably the worst or close to the worst salon I've ever been to. Called to see if they had acrylic. Nope, but they can do dip. Sure I'll do dip, and needed to get them done quick to get back home to my family. I needed a gel pedicure as well, so I informed them over the phone that I'll need both to book the appointment....I start getting my toes done, she's taking my feet in and out of the water; it looks like she has no fricken idea what she's doing. I'm being patient...but then I tell the lady I have two ingrown nails I need you to remove, I'm 39 weeks pregnant and they're common in pregnancy. This lady continues to do nothing. She's pulling on my cuticle. And keeps doing the same thing. "How about now?"' She keeps asking. I wanted to ask her, Wtf are you even doing.m? Instead I told her I would just do it, so she could put the shellac on, she suddenly got a new tool and figured it out...........so I've been there 2 HOURS at this point...and their pedicure chairs are the cheapest most uncomfortable I've ever sat on.... Still waiting to start the dip. It's 5:20. I tell them...I need to be done by 6:20... she says....ohhhh yeah no, not enough time...can you come back tomorrow? NO, that's why I called you. Made my toes/fingers bleed multiple times, nail polish all over my cuticles, they never asked how the water temperature was, stones were too hot and left a mark on the top of my foot and they couldn't match my gel color to my toes. Despite the nail technician being friendly, I would not recommend going to this salon. First, I noticed that the pedicure tubs were not lined with plastic. As I sat down for my pedicure I started to read several reviews on Yelp that stated individuals have left bleeding. After that, I couldn't really relax and enjoy my pedicure. Then, it happened to me! The technician cut the side of my foot with the foot file. She didn't notice. I asked for a bandaid and then asked that she not put my foot back in the tub. I don't think she understood and continued to put the water from the tub onto my foot! Again, the technician was nice enough, but I left cut and worried that I would get an infection instead of relaxed and pampered. read more

Really bad experience at this nail salon, I will never go back. I went in with the intention of getting a pedicure and gel mani and left after the pedi was done so poorly. 1. The technician was nice but was going way too hard and aggressive with the cuticle clean up and it hurt. 2. The hot stones in theory would have been a good touch but they were way too hot to put on my legs right away and were nearly burning me, I had to ask her to stop using them. 3. Instead of putting my flip flop on before painting, she carefully put one flop on but while trying to put the other on she pressed her forearm across my other foot on my toes... and ruined 3 of the Nails and had to redo them.
