My friend's Oxnard burrito was big, but had a good serving of asada inside and made fresh. The service was quick and we ordered very efficiently. The ambiance is casual and clean. I honestly don't know how this food made it out of the kitchen. The fish tacos had absolutely no seasoning, no flavor, and no effort put into them whatsoever. It tasted like someone threw a plain piece of fish into a tortilla and called it a day. Not even the toppings could save them. Unfortunately, the fish tacos weren't the only disappointment. The sopes were just as bad--bland, poorly prepared, and lacking the rich flavors you expect from traditional Mexican food. To make matters worse, the salsas were terrible. They tasted watered down and lacked any real spice, freshness, or flavor. A good salsa can elevate a meal, but these only made the experience worse. For a Mexican restaurant, serving food this flavorless is unacceptable. I've had more flavor from a frozen microwave meal. Every dish we tried was underwhelming, and I kept hoping something would redeem the meal, but nothing did. I came in expecting authentic, flavorful Mexican food and left feeling like I wasted my money. Between the tasteless fish tacos, disappointing sopes, and bad salsas, I won't be coming back. Stumbled upon House of Tacos as we were looking for a quick late lunch spot on a weekday. I had heard good things about this place and when we were in the area I knew it was the perfect time to finally try this spot out. The interior is super bright, fun, and festive. It's like a work of art on the inside. I loved the decor and the homage to Hispanic/Latina artists and celebrities etc. the restaurant is definitely Instagram worthy on the inside. Felt welcoming and made it a cute spot to eat at. The staff here are super friendly and kind. My friend and I kept saying how nice everyone was throughout our dining experience. Appreciated their guidance on the menu and recommendations. You can tell they care about their business and want to give every customer a good experience. My favorite thing here is their Agua frescas/drinks. I had a dragonfruit lemonade that was a 10/10! Probably one of the best dragonfruit based drinks I've ever had. Addicting and now I'm already trying to figure out when I can come back. Love the selection, you should check them out for their cool non alcohol drinks. The food was also all cooked fresh to order and super tasty. I had the chicken verde enchiladas and the portions were super generous! The enchiladas were killer, so good. Loved their beans on the side and liked the rice. A really good complete meal. At first I was thinking this spot was a little pricey but after seeing the portion size and quality you should keep that in mind. It was justifiable. Sadly, for a place called House of Tacos - I was not impressed. I found this place on a whim as my normal places were closed for whatever reason and came based off the location, name, and reviews. It's in a small little plaza with limited parking but the decor inside is SO CUTE! Very modern aztec mexicana type vibes - very colorful and vibrant. The food though is EXPENSIVE and to me wasn't worth the money. 4 people $80 dollars. Which would make sense, $20 pp IF the food matched the price. OH and their single tacos are PER TACO, which averages $6+. Anyways, I ordered 3 birria plates and it was so greasy and fatty that it wasn't enjoyable and we also ordered a chicken fajita plate which was mainly a BULB OF ONION and peppers & the chicken didn't really pack much flavor . The rice and beans weren't to my liking either. To me - the best this was the Agua fresco ; I got a mango and it was amazing with the chamoy and tajin. The service was good though. Our family trued a BRC burrito and carne asada tacos over the weekend and had to go back four days later to try the veggie burrito and rajas tacos! Yummers! The veggie burrito was giant and can feed three people... so filling. Potatoes, guacamole, black beans, onions, zuchinni, rice and with the red salsa,.. wow! Rajas tacos rival ANY veggie taco in Ventura County! Fresh, not greasy, and the blue corn tortillas is really delicious and corny. I think this is a relatively new business so we decided to check this place out to satisfy our taco cravings. There's lots of items on the menu so we probably spent 5 minutes just staring and figuring out what we wanted to eat. The tacos were quite large and had lots of filling. My favorite was the al pastor with pineapple. The asada was on the dry side. The quesatacos were absolutely delicious and quite filling! I had a couple sips of the horchata and it was the creamiest horchata I've had! We stopped by for a late lunch so it was pretty quiet. I ordered two Asada tacos which were big. I was stuffed! I also got an horchata which was sweet and refreshing. Def different than my family's horchata but still enjoyed it! Not watery at all like last time. The meat did have some fat but I love fat. As kids, my siblings and I, would fight for that fatty bits! I'm a true fatty fatty, I don't mind it and actually enjoy the extra flavor. Not tooo too much fat either though! The grill flavor was delicious! Service was good and pretty quick today. Things are made to order so patience is a virtue. I dislike seeing comments saying that the wait was long ... like 15 minutes. This is not Taco Bell . I enjoyed the taco árabe, it was a soft pita bread with cheese seared on then topped with meat and grilled onions and peppers. It was different and the chipotle sour cream was good.
