They installed a Navien tankless heater in our attic less than a year ago. Last night it stopped working and showed an error code "E438". My husband called to get them to service the unit. Their response was they can't service because there's such a long wait for parts due to the freeze. This unit didn't freeze as it was insulated in our attic and drained before the freeze. It worked fine for a month after the Texas freezepocalypse. We asked if they could just diagnose the problem and figure out what part is needed. Nope. But they'd be happy to install a new unit for $3800. I called Navien and they said parts were taking anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks depending on the part, which we were willing to wait on, but Houston Water Heaters insisted that they couldn't service heaters, only install new ones because my unit is out of warranty due to the freeze and the parts wouldn't be covered under warranty. Our unit DID NOT FREEZE but even if it did, I'd be out of pocket ~$200 for parts, not $3800 for a new unit that's also not under warranty. So if you're looking for new product install by them, just know your product is not getting backed by any follow up service should anything go wrong. So any warranty is basically worthless. read more

This was a 2 day event as there was a miscommunication with the size of the water heater we needed, but the correct one was put in the next day with no issues or hidden fees. The gentlemen installed it quickly (less than 2 hours) and correctly, and double/tripled checked that it was done and done right! They also let me know of a possible future vent issue due to the size and flame of the new heater compared to the old, clunky one. (They were very fair and reasonable and a good deal below some of the other quotes that I got) I did have difficulty with the bank that was linked on the company website for financing, because I have credit freezes due to identity theft in the past. I would recommend unfreezing your credit before filling out your application, as I was told that I had to wait for the credit card to arrive in the mail before using it and couldn't cancel as the application had been approved(meaning I had to put the purchase on a credit card for installation today). I had a service technician scheduled to show up in the afternoon a few days ago. The service technician never called or showed and it was 3 hours past the window. I called and some guy answers stating the technician is running behind and he will call me with an update in 15 minutes. That clal never came. So I called back and kept getting hung up on. Eventually someone answered and I just told them to reschedule for the next day. He said the technician would service me first thing in the morning as a priority. Noon gets here and no call, no show AGAIN! I call up there and the lady that answers the phone was extremely rude and hung up on me when I was tactfully expressing my frustration with not being able to get someone out there. I needed a new water heater, and found this company by searching for water heater repairs in Houston. Looked like the perfect company since that's all they do is water heaters. Daniel and Zach came out the same day I called and replaced my water heater in about an hour and a half. It was on the first floor so that made it good, and they replaced the heater, installed brand new copper tubing, replaced the pan underneath the water heater, left a water leak alarm, and ran a new drain for the pan as it did not have one. Explained all features of the new heater. They even polished the water heater so it was nice and shiny! The whole process was very seamless, and communication was excellent from start to finish. Wow, just replaced my two 15-year-old water heaters with a brand new tankless system, and could not be happier with the product and service provided by Houston Water Heaters. I sent a request for a quote in over the weekend (Saturday) with minimal information and received a 2-3 page writeup with options and additional information from the owner (Steve). Made the same request to two local plumbers and it took 1-2 days to get a quote and a visit from both plumbers. Information provided by Houston Water Heaters was both verified and bounced off the other plumbers which acknowledged points made by Houston Water Heaters, but did not necessarily provide any additional information or indications of knowledge. In fact, one firm charged higher prices for what appeared to be an inferior product. Despite Houston Water Heaters being a bit further away than the locals, they assured me that they could get up here (The Woodlands) and take care of the installation. I pulled the trigger and was called that evening with a scheduled install the next day. The installer, Darrel, called me in the morning to let me know they were on the way and provided an approximate arrival time. Both Darrel and Zach arrived right on time and after a 10-minute pre-inspection got to work! In as little as 4 hours they had the old water heaters out and the new tankless systems installed. They also had a roofer taking care of vents at the same time. If I could give 0 stars this company would absolutely deserve it. Issue 1 - Called to have my water heater replaced. After speaking with the dispatcher, I was set for an appointment for Saturday morning at 11am. Come 12pm Saturday still no show. I call to see where the guys are that were scheduled to be at my house and the guys who were supposed to be at my house; the guys state they are standing in my garage, already working on my water heater. My reply was I am standing in my driveway and no one is here at my house. The workers read back my address and the address was a house in Humble; I live in Katy!!!!! I was put in touch with Steve. Steve is the owner and told me he had an issue with his dispatcher, who they were in the process of letting go. Steve tells me this particular dispatcher had been unhappy with his job and were sending the workers to different locations that didn't even call in for orders! So not only were they at a random house, they were at a random house that had no appointment, ALREADY WORKING ON SOMEONE ELSE'S TANK!!!!! Issue 2 - the workers finally get to my house late Saturday afternoon. They proceed to being looking at my water heater and draining the tank to remove from my house. After discussing with the worker, the worker tells me I don't need a new water heater and that the one I have is perfectly fine and will last me another 10 years. They said the new water heaters have pilot issues in hot attics said I need better ventilation and solar fans and a huge expense I'd assume.So I left it to the techs to make my mind up that's when they said I could get another 5-10 years out of mine. To my surprise, I decided to keep my water heater after discussing many options with the worker. He advised me himself to keep it and nothing needed to be done. Now, my water heater is leaking nonstop in my house from where these workers drained the tank. There was not this issue beforehand. Issue 3 - the water heater they had brought to replace mine, was disgusting! It was out of the box, scratched, rusted, etc. it was in worse shape than my current water heater!!! Issue 4 - since the workers left I have been trying to get ahold of Steve, as well as the workers and no one has returned my calls to fix whatever they've done to my tank. I finally received a call back after at least 30 calls and texts to Steve and workers, this morning. Steve tells me they did no such thing, they never drained my tank, and that the tank they brought to replace mine, was brand new and was barely taken out of the box before they deployed to job sites! Not only was he incredibly rude thru this entire conversation today, he consistently said I was a bad customer and he would not deal with me. The amount of unprofessionalism thought ur this entire process is completely insane. Now, here I am, with a leaking water heater from this company. I STRONGLY advise staying away from this company and Steve. They are con artists and literally came into my home and broke my water heater, after his own workers advised me not to buy a new water heater and tank!
