I have always been a fan of this dealership for the work they have done throughout the years, the seminars and the people that work there. This review is long overdue, maybe a little more than a month ago that my troubles were solved brilliantly by these people. Like all things in life things fail and this time after we spent the month of August in Western NC we made a list of the things that needed repair to bring the RV to it's original state. Some of the stuff that needed attention was the antenna over the cab that an MB dealer in SC had broken it during wash while servicing the engine and they glued back with JB Weld and of course kept it quiet. When I went to inspect the roof I barely touched it and it came apart. The LP needed a new regulator and the bed was not retracting in the lounge. So in my first visit this year to Howard the first two issues were taken care of but about the bed I was told that the frame got bent and needed a new one. Expensive and complicated process. So I spoke to John and took the RV back to Wilmington in October, him and two other people looked at the mechanism and ordered parts from Canada where LTV is made. John had to get under the bed while the other two people manually made the mechanism work to see where the problem was. Getting under the bed is not an easy task because there is barely room for sliding, not even crawling. Thank you John, you are awesome! The frame wasn't bent and didn't need replacing and now it works just the same as on day one. Casey Otto My personal experience getting my motor home worked on over the years has been a mixed bag. I have had work that has gone off without a hitch. I have had the following experiences also: A tool left behind in a area it shouldn't have been. Area where maintenance was preformed was not cleaned when I came to pick it up. Not knowing the status of work and why it was taking longer than expected until I asked questions and was told that the technician that was working my work order abruptly left. I was contacted several times that my motor home was ready to be picked up only to find out upon questioning about certain aspects of the work that it had not been completed. I had been told that my motor home would be out front ready for me to pick up(even though I called to inform them I was on my way) when in fact I had to look for it myself and retrieve it from the back lot. There were parts and labor on a work order I was going to be charged for that was never done. Ask questions! I had brought my MH back not long after picking it up to try to fix the problem that wasn't fix on the previous visit and got charged again. I was contacted that the MH was ready to pick up and the auto levelling system was to be calibrated / zeroed but when I got there first the system did not work. I waited for it to be up and running but found out it was only calibrated/ zeroed to manual mode for a "auto leveling system". I had to come back at a later time when it was calirated / zeroed properly. Then the first time operating the system since getting the MH, the system did not function properly. I had to take it back again! Ask questions! Be detail oriented! You and your RV deserve to be treated as though they are working on their own RV! read more

called to get rv fixed and they gave us a number of who to call to get them to come to us a repair our RV. the guy told us that he was worked wth Howard RV and so he come looked at the problem and then needed the money to get the parts needed for this job. he put the new part in but then realized that he was missing a part and would have to come back with the other part. well that was 3 months ago and now Howards RV claims that not their problem even though this is the guy they gave us to call. the guy that came and did half the job is no longer answering our calls or text. read more

Bought a 2020 Pleasure Way Ascent in July 2023. Salesman gave paperwork "implying" the 5 year warranty was good til 2025. Find out nothing is covered and warranty is "non-transferable". Sales manager would rather argue legalese than try to have service dept. assess the issues. Vehicle was a lemon from the get go.(fridge, inverter, awning) . Would caution that buyers BEWARE.... read more

We were treated very poorly by a salesman. All of our reads each told us this would be a good place to purchase from yet our time and effort was not appreciated and we were mislead. I believe in supporting a family operation as I have worked for one myself for years. Treating others the way you would want to be treated is the cornerstone of all personal and business relationships. We even reached out to the owner John Howard and received no response. There are many other dealerships in this state alone. Choose the one that values you upfront and not just for a bottom line sale. We will be searching elsewhere unless ownership can convince otherwise. You would be wise to see the outcome of this before you move forward here. Update: Mr. Howard did respond to our concern and only stated he felt like he had priced his unit too low. Not a word was offered to the fact that his sales team member had no consideration for our time or our agreed offer. They let us drive 2.5 hours and dropped us an obscure email when were just outside of town. Sadly, we were hoping that at least the owner would understand the poor business practice of not keeping your word. It's a challenging world for all these times. The small electric motor in my rv toilet fan stopped working. I had company coming to visit so it had to be fixed. I called Howards and was told they had one so I drove 1 hr. to get it because as I stated earlier, I had to have it. They charged me $ 50. 00 and some change for just the motor; two wires and screws to mount it. On line you can buy them anywhere from around $ 9.00 to $ 20. 00 plus . depending on if you buy fan blade etc. etc. WON'T EVER GO THERE AGAIN. read more

I was driven from the establishment under threat of having law enforcement called on me because I had the audacity to stand my ground and question the "rules" that the employees were trying to push on me, but were not following themselves. When I entered the business I encountered two employees at the parts counter, neither of whom were wearing masks. One employee pulled his mask up when we started to conduct business. The other employee asked me if I would like a mask. I said no. That employee then commenced to tell me to be careful and life went downhill from there. It was the owner, John Howard, who ensured the situation escalated to the point where he was threatening to call Law Enforcement instead of actually trying to have a conversation; he pretended to want to converse, but was completely uninterested in trying to understand what I was attempting to communicate; and descalate the situation. I recommend taking your business somewhere else. Additional info--I did try to call and discuss this with the owner, John Howard, Initially all he had to say was nothing was going to be accomplished by the conversation. At the end of the conversation he attempted to placate me by stating that they were completely in the wrong. Never was there any apology. Response to John Howard's response. 1) Notice that the owner does not even use my name, he inaccurately uses Green as my last name. Goes to show how little he actually cares about accuracy. 2) Actually, I left immediately upon my initial interaction with the employees due to their attempt at enforcing a double standard, they weren't wearing masks, but felt the need to enforce this "rule" on me. This double standard is the ultimate issue. Much like law enforcement enforcing laws while actively violating those same laws. Upon reaching my vehicle I felt it wasn't right that I should be required while they violated. I went back in and ask to speak to whomever was in charge. John Howard was standing there. I started to explain, but all he wanted was me to leave so yes, due to my underlying medical condition which is Service Connected and for which I am disabled, I raised the tone in my voice. 3) I hope all take note that it is apparently the underlying tone of this business, from the owner down to the employee at the parts counter, to treat the customer badly and then try to bully the customer with threats of law enforcement instead of effective communication. Not only in the store, but also in the owner's Yelp response. Note no attempt to work the issue out, just blame the customer. Why the double standard to begin with is what I don't understand. Why is it ok for the employees to ignore the Governor's Executive Order, but not for the customer? Why are they allowed that freedom to choose, but not the customer? Why can two employees sit approximately 6' from each other in a confined space, essentially a plexiglass wall around the front sides and the actual walls to the back, and neither be actually using their face covering to cover their face, but the customer, who is in a less confined space, must be scolded about not using a mask by this same employee who is already failing to follow the Order? And then to top it off the owner, John Howard, is apparently defending those same rule breaking employees by continuing to blame the customer. Apparently John Howard feels, and leads his employees in the same vein, that he can pick and choose what orders or rules to follow and to force customers to do as they, the owner and employees, demand at all costs. One final, very important note. At no point was I asked to leave. Not once was I asked to leave the establishment. Only the threat of law enforcement involvement by telling the employees to call 911. read more

I purchased a new Dutchman Denali. The staff is a pleasure to work with. The owner, Mr Howard, completes the purchase paperwork. This is a wonderful thing. It gives you the opportunity to deal with the man that makes decisions BEFORE you sign on the dotted line. The service tech, Charlie, who spent 3 hours with me performing the Pre Delivery Inspection did a fantastic job and was very knowledgeable about the RV So far so good. I will update this in 60 days then again after 6 months of ownership. I feel confident that if I have any issues Howad RV will be there for me. We will see how that shakes out. read more

We were camping in the area with a new Jayco. We were leaving but we stopped at Walmart to pick up an item and as we were coming out we saw a huge circle of fluid under our unit and my spouse tried to put automatic jacks up and finally got them up. We have used Howard's many times and we have paid them thousands of dollars for repair work on an older motor home we had so we decided to pull in and let them do a quick check to see if we could drive home or if we needed to we would pay for repair. The lady at the desk was so rude and kept commenting about not authorized Jayco but spouse continued to tell her we would pay out of pocket...just look under it and give us some advice. In a huff, she said they just couldn't drop everything to check...they had schedule then a man came out and basically said the same. Thanks a lot! I guess the thousands we spent a few years ago meant nothing. We drove home and it took my spouse 5 minutes to slide under the motorhome to discover a tube had rubbed against something and had worn a hole or it had come apart. So much for customer service. No wonder their business seems to be in decline. read more

We left this place because they were unable to help. The man would not really listen, only ask sarcastic questions like "you want the right part don't you?" so we went to another rv place in town. The guy asked 1 question (politely with no sarcasm at all) and said here is the part you will need! Came back to our camper and fixed the problem within minutes! I have been searching for the right RV for many months and my search led me to Howard Rv which is about a six hour drive....I had been working with Tom and after a number of conversations my wife and I jumped in the car and brought our checkbook as we were quite sure this was the right deal.We were greeted by Lisa and she was very friendly and made us feel comfortable prior to our appointment...Tom was a cut above any salesman I have worked with because he was not trying to sell us something and get us out the door.He took his time and seemed sincerely interested in our mission....We left having given him enough of a check that he was going to present it to the owner the next day....Driving home I received an e-mail from a close friend who knows a great deal about diesel engines and he thought I was looking for trouble down the road....Because I was very concerned that I not have trouble I had second thoughts and was very concerned about the call to Tom to explain I had changed my mind...At the beginning of that difficult call he seemed to understand and said he would be sure to look for a similar model with a gas engine.Never have I dealt with someone that seemed genuinely eager to help even when a sale falls through....I will be back to Howard the moment I hear agin from Tom read more

Buying a motor home from Howard Rv was an absolute pleasure.Like most people I hate buying a new vehicle. These guys are a different breed from any other vehicle dealership I have ever visited. From my first contact on the phone with Steve until the minute I drove off the lot, I was treated with integrity, respect and a level of customer service that I have never seen in 50 years of buying vehicles. I was given all of the information that I needed to make a decision without ant pressure or "slick" Cale's technique. They are true professionals. Before I left with the motor home, they gave me a full briefing on the entire home and then invited me to spend a few nights in their private camping area to make sure that there were no problems before I set out one the road. What an awesome idea. They have to extremely confident of their product to encourage me to try it out on their property, rather than just take my money and wish me luck on the manufacturer's 800 number if I had an issue. My only wish is that they also sold cars because I really need a new one and this is the very first positive buying experience I have ever had. Having read the excellent reviews in addition to being an authorized/warranty dealership for Newmar, we decided to call ahead to schedule service on our DutchStar. Having traveled 3700 miles cross country, a few problems needed to be addressed. The service technicians were very knowledgeable and quickly diagnosed the problems. Since the parts would take a couple of days to arrive, Mr. Howard personally invited us to park our coach on the lot, avoiding the expense of a hotel. The repairs were completed in a timely manner and we were on the road once again. Everyone at Howard RV exceeded our expectations, and we STRONGLY recommend stopping by if in the area. read more

I recently had Howard RV install a washer in my 5th wheel. After a short length of time I had issues with the unit. The manufacture of the washer wouldn't honor the warranty. Bill Mirrrielees researched the issue and Howard RV replaced the washer and absorbed the cost. I've owned over 14 RV's in my lifetime and haven't received better service from an RV dealer. Wow, I wish I had the experience the other reviewers have had! We recently purchased a diesel pusher motorhome and wanted to have it serviced before taking it on our first big trip. We scheduled an appt. at Howard based on all the positive reviews. Sadly, our experience was anything but positive. After waiting 3 weeks for the service appt, our RV was not even looked at until the day after our scheduled appt. Then we were told that parts would need to be ordered. We inquired about having the parts overnighted or somehow expedited due to our impending travel plans and were told we could pay for expedited shipping to have them arrive within 2-3 days. We agreed to do so. Howard claims that the parts did not arrive for 5 days, however, based on other reviews and circumstantial evidence I would venture to guess that they were not ordered promptly, or they failed to request the expedited shipping when they were ordered. After repairs began, we were informed that the technician was having difficulty accessing the parts so the repair was going to take longer than anticipated. I made a call to the General Manager listed on the website. He did promptly return my call, but was not particularly helpful, only repeating the same information that we had already been given. When the RV was finished and we received our bill we were in for another unpleasant surprise. Howard RV charged us $514 to change the oil in our motorhome - a service that would typically cost $250-$285. They also charged us $218 to change the oil in the onboard generator. I certainly acknowledge that I should have done my homework prior to requesting the service, I just did not expect prices so out of line with prevailing market prices. Next time, I know to go elsewhere, just wanted to let others know to beware. read more

I paid Howard RV $287.50 to check out an RV I was looking at to buy 250 miles from where I lived. I was met by Dave who I told that this assessment was to be paid by me and was for me, he said " you have 30 minutes". I asked him for a written assessment check off, which he said he did not have available. He told me "you have no dry rot on your tires". Beware if you are looking to rent from Howard's.In August 2013 I filled out a rental form for our upcoming vacation to Disney in April 2014 and was told they were replacing the existing motorhome in the fleet with a new one. In October I spoke with Bill to confirm my dates and he told me he would call me in January to have me come down and have a look at the new motorhome to be sure it was suitable for my vacation and give him my deposit. Well, no phone call in January. February 21, I stopped in to their office to see the new model, etc. only to find out they are not replacing the rental motorhome in the fleet at all. Nobody called to tell me, now 7 weeks before our vacation and now I cannot find a rental anywhere and the hotels in Disney during April vacation are out of the budget. Nice job Howard's for ruining our vacation. Our family hasn't had a vacation in 3 years. The least you could have done was to rent us the old rental that you now have on your lot for sale.
