Howard Station Cafe is a must if you're in Occidental, and in our case, anytime we are in Bodega. So many delicious options. I usually order the Quinoa bowl, and opted for the Irish Benedict. So yummy!!! Got to taste the pumpkin Waffle. The Purée makes it what it is. And the quesadilla was so good too. It gets really busy in there. Lots of tables inside, but if you have a fur baby, there is outside seating fills up fast. Staff is so accommodating and helpful when picking items, and modifying for special diets. See you next time we come to town

We visited Howard's while staying with family who highly recommended it--and it did not disappoint! The menu is extensive, offering a wide range of breakfast and lunch options, a full smoothie menu, and even a special menu for your pup if they're tagging along. The menu offers lots of customizable options be vegan or vegetarian based on preferences. We started with lavender oat milk lattes, which were absolute perfection--so smooth and delicious! I'll be grabbing one every day while I'm in town. For breakfast, I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, and they were hands down the best I've ever had. I loved the presentation with rolled tortillas on the side and a few underneath--perfect for assembling your own breakfast tacos. The flavors were spot-on. My husband got the Salmon Benedict and loved that it featured fresh, not smoked, salmon. The seasoned potatoes on the side were packed with a unique flavor. All the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Although you order at the counter, they bring the food to your table and checked in with us a couple of times during the meal to see if we needed anything or how things were tasting--wonderful service! The space itself is charming and cozy, with a small covered patio and a few outdoor tables on the side. Inside, there's plenty of air-conditioned seating and cute decor that adds to the overall fun, relaxed vibe. We loved everything about this place. I'm already planning to go back tomorrow--and definitely again the next time we're in town--to try more of the delicious-looking menu items!

Made the short drive into Occidental for breakfast. The small downtown is nice and quaint. Received a friendly greeting and were seated immediately even though the place was pretty busy. Started with a nice cup of coffee. Ordered the corned beef hash and the rest of our party had the Benedict and veggie omelets. I should have noticed that everyone has the giant heart shaped biscuit but I got my go-to English muffin. The hash was good, now awesome. The Benedict was good too but the potatoes were too herby for our taste. The veggie omelets were chock full of veggies and were nice sized. Good service... good spot for a local breakfast.

I live in Occidental and I have frequented this place on and off for 10 years. Covid was tough but it seems they have pulled through and are back to making really good food. I hear there is an ownership change but I hope they hold onto their wonderful staff. Occidental never disappoints with its comfy vintage ambiance.

An empty plate, residual pulp on the orange juice glass, and a cappuccino cup with the stained foam lingering.

I came in here hoping to have a half-way decent waffle, tolerable orange juice, and a semi strong cappuccino and I was shown how terribly I had underestimated this place. The waffle special featured a carmelized apple so of course I ordered it and it was the best decision I have made in weeks. From the texture of the waffle to the homemade whipped cream and the perfectly cooked apples, I was grateful for every bite. When I was given my orange juice, I was joyfully surpised at the tempture being tempid since fresh orange juice is best served that way and not ice cold. Delicious, pulpy, real. Finally the cappuccino was exactly what I needed to feel human again today. Served at a drinkable temperature with an unpolished foam and sharpness I was craving. The team is so patient and focused while achieving this amazing experience and I cannot emphasize enough that the wait in line was worth every item as this has satisfied my yearning for a great waffle, fresh orange juice, and a lovely cappuccino. Keep up the amazing job!

Most delicious breakfast today! I had beans greens n dreams plus splurged on bacon Ama avocado, putting the price up to just below $20 for the dish, but omg was it worth it. So yummy with the pesto sauce n bacon yet felt healthy with perfectly done greens, fresh avocado and yummy white beans. I asked for my eggs to be done fried over medium and it was done to perfection for me; no runny whites, Yellow still soft and a little runny. Highly recommended, especially If your trying to not to do the classic greasy dinner thing; and the bacon was so good; obviously a high quality brand, as it was perfectly tasty and smoky and thick not too salty and not burned too a crisp, etc. My husband got the smoked salmon Benedict which i tasted; delicious! Yummy "truly smoked" salmon, NOT the lox type; and the hollandaise was the real deal made from scratch, (ie made with real butter n egg). My son got eggs n bacon n potatoes, all made perfectly. He also got a side of biscuits n gravy because we are all connisoures in that dept, similar to the hollandaise dept, it passed the test made with a bit of sausage, creamy n!). Coffee good too! Sorry, we were so hungry i forgot to take pics first showing presentation. By the time i remembered, only my bean dish looked ok and not demolished. In the end we got to meet the cool owner Val who said he was originally from Roma Gypsy people in Romania. He said most all their ingredients is sourced local and organic! The place is adorable too, an old Victorian themed after a railway station of yesteryear. It was also a pleasure to hear one of the waitresses singing along full of heart to the recorded piped music.

On the wall was a chalkboard with the list of local farmers and vendors that they used to supply their restaurant. I loved how fresh and flavorful all the food was, but I loved their collaboration with small local business owners to provide them with things like eggs and dairy. I had an omelette with spinach, caramelized, tomatoes, chicken sausage, and goat cheese. This was one of the most delicious bites I've had at a breakfast spot in a long time. We also shared an order of beignets that came with some fresh apple butter, which was to die for! It felt like taking a bit off fall weather if that makes sense. My boyfriend had some biscuits and country gravy with a side of sausage and fried eggs. He loved everything that he ate as well. He also had a bloody Mary, which was made with Soju. The flavor and quality was top notch and you hardly missed the vodka from the drink. Our server was very friendly, and he offered some insight into the quality of the Soju and the vendors that they work with. I just really loved the care that this restaurant put into not only service but the food that they're producing.

The fries were not really a big deal here. The clam chowder had other ingredients like ham and corn. I prefer the cream heavy type of chowder than theirs which was more the soupy type. Everything we ordered was well-prepared and delicious, but the standout dishes were the beet salad and the shrimp & grits. The beet salad had a perfect mix of textures; chopped pistachios, tender beets, and crunchy radishes over a pillowy ricotta. I finished the salad wishing there was more. The shrimp & grits featured a potlikker sauce that absolutely lived up to the hype; it made the dish. I wish the shrimp & grits were served in a bowl rather than a shallow dish. The restaurant's large windows provide beautiful waterfront views no matter where you're seated. Our waitress (whose name I unfortunately forgot) was fantastic. I know Caesar dressing contains anchovies, but I was hesitant about having actual fish on my salad. I'm so glad she encouraged me to try the cooked anchovies on the side--they were delicious. I'm not entirely sure what was in it, but it reminded me of garlic bread in the best way. The applesauce was also a nice touch. The halibut was cooked perfectly as well, and the mashed potatoes practically melted in your mouth. For sides, the grilled asparagus was exactly what you'd hope for, and the crispy potatoes lived up to their name, perfectly seasoned with a great crunch. The sourdough was soft and the poppy seeds add texture to it. The pairing works so well, we asked for another refill. Now to the main course, the fish tacos were on point, not very memorable to be honest. But the pasta!!! omg you could tell it was hand made, the shrimp were fresh and cleaned it wasn't fishy at all. I was expecting it to be a tomato based pasta, but the sun dried tomato gave such a nice additional profile, sweet and sourness to the truffle based pasta sauce. Last but not least, let's talk about the view! It is not everyday you got to see the end of the river and the start of Pacific Ocean. it was such a stunning view. Overall it is a 5/5 experience!

Wish I had known a couple of details before planning my anniversary dinner here…read more This place is known for epic views, naturally we wanted a table with a view so I called a week in advance to request just that. The woman I spoke to said she would put it in her notes and that specific tables are not able to be held. She assured me we would have a good spot so I took her word for it. This was our first time coming here and its an hour drive. There is very minimal parking. We were lucky to get a spot as someone was leaving. We were seated at the worst table this place has to offer, right at the entrance to the bar and kitchen, in a narrow walkway, there is a window for one person to look out of and the other seat is looking into the kitchen as the table is positioned halfway in the middle of a window, so one side is against a wall and a view of the kitchen. The busy waitstaff was coming in and out quickly from both areas and walking past us with plates and such, it was chaotic at best. It felt almost insulting to be seated here as we had made a request well in advance to celebrate our anniversary which was also not acknowledged. Another party was just leaving so I was able to request to move. We were then seated at a 2 top table just outside of the atrium with a direct view thru a window of another 2 top table on the other side of the glass so when you go to look out the window its like you are staring at the people at the table thru the glass partition. We were so deflated by this whole seating situation. I say all of this to point out that if you are a party of 2 there is barely any tables with a clear view for both people so keep that in mind! If you have a party of 4-6 you have a much better chance of a better table. Really wish I had known that!!! The interior was nice enough but lacking the romance and ambiance I had hoped for, can we get some candles or flowers on the tables? Seems like an obvious detail overlooked. As far as the menu we were a bit underwhelmed by the offerings, there is a prefix menu and a small menu adjacent with minimal options like lamb and elk or vegetarian.... Probly should have looked at that before making this reservation but I had heard how amazing it was so I just took a chance. Although the choices were limited we enjoyed everything we ordered, food and drinks. Our waitress was nice and did a good job for us overall but definitely was more attentive and informative to the group adjacent to us which was a bit disappointing. Again this was a celebratory dinner and it just fell short for us in that way as it was not acknowledged Our tab was a little over 300$ portions were modest although tasty. I enjoyed the drinks and desert the most. To sum it up, I wont be going out of my way again to come back here. If I found myself in the area I might enjoy stopping in for a drink and dessert. Id say a solid 2.5 stars
