Was staying at Occidental for the weekend and Negri's was locally recommended. We arrived at the peak of dinner time so it was quite a wait for our food. We went with the venetian shrimp as an appetizer and the roasted half chicken which was the special for the day. The venetian shrimp was okay... the shrimp was cooked well but the polenta was too greasy and buttery and we just picked off the shrimp before we were done with it. This place is great, they serve simple dishes with a ton of flavor. We had a delicious pepperoni pizza with the perfect cheese to crust and toppings ratio. Just stayed at the Occidental Inn and we were craving a cozy pasta bite. And...Negris in was absolutely calling our name! The fettuccini Alfredo to-go hit the spot. Such a huge serving and perfect for two. The noodles "wow"and the sauce was deliciously creamy and authentic. The service was amazing. The food was like it's been for the last in my case 60 years. The cooks are obviously the same for many many years. I was very impressed with what's going on hasn't changed a lot except. I still wish they had the pasta that they served you when you first sat down with the sauce on top of it although that was when they had family dining, I assume. Thanks to Covid. And although everything was great, my whole entire family loved the whole entire dinner, the pizza, the pasta, the wedge salad, and especially the raviolis. They were amazing. We eat a lot of Italian restaurants where we live at around but Negris was exceptional. But like I said, except. No more spumoni. I was highly disappointed. The place is clean with minimal decor but I was a bit disappointed it did not have an old school feel and only the bar side is open. Food: Garlic bread is a huge loaf but was given to us mid frozen so it was returned. Ravioli is decent but the best thing was their bolognese and pesto sauces. So delicious. We were looking for pizza in the bodega Bay Area and surprisingly, the options were limited. But that was a great thing, because it gave us the chance to drive into Occidental (a lovely drive by the way) and enjoy Negri's Original! Great ambiance, they had doors open to a small patio so it let the fresh air in, and had a nice view of this cute little town. The pizza was awesome, and hit the spot. I wish I would've got pictures but our crew started devouring immediately. We ordered the pepperoni, salsiccia, bocconcini verde, and the capperi, as well as the large garlic bread ...it was a long day of hiking and we were starving! Upside, the leftovers were just as delicious the next day. Service was great and from what I can tell, this is truly a family run business (which I love to support). This was my 1st time in this quant little town and to this restaurant. Apparently my Husband and his siblings came here decades ago as children with their parents. Since this event was my brother in law's 45th birthday dinner, he wanted to being nostalgic and go back this time, bringing their close friends and families! Since they were 15 of us, the 10 adult sat at the main table in the bar, and the five children sat at a smaller table, just next to us! It was really cute!! Service was great- especially since we arrived 20 minutes early and were able to be seated. Then the cider on tap was delicious as well as the local beer. The appetizers: truffle fries, calamari, and garlic bread was all delicious and the garlic bread was IMPRESSIVE!!! It was a FULL LOAF of garlic bread with all the buttery-goodness! The garlic was AMAZING! Dinner: we ordered almost a dish of each item, between the 10 of us! Haha. Their BLT chicken sandwich was HUGE! Chicken masala was savory and sweet! I added my favorite red pepper flakes to the sauce and got the perfect little spice to the savory sauce. (I love sweet and spicy flavors). Hee. Raviolis smelled delicious! They even offered organic GLUTEN FREE pasta for $3 extra charge! What a deal!!! I can't WAIT to come back here! I truly lived their little shops within this hidden valley of a town! I am one of many who grew up in the Bay Area and made family trips be it to pick cherries or swim at Clear Lake and then stopped for dinner at Negri's back in the day. This week I was traveling through and stopped for dinner. It was excellent. Enjoying the ravioli and bolognese sauce took me right back to those days. The wedge salad was also top quality. And so great that the restaurant is still run by the same family. Very much appreciate their continuing to make their food and family part of the community. Cleanliness 8/10 Not-so-good: Food was mostly average. Pasta was overcooked, sauce was overcooked. Sausage was overcooked. Red Wine ($45/bottle) arrived at about 38f...far too cold. Dessert, arrived in a pottery dish that had been cracked in service, leaving shards of sharp pottery in the food. Management took it off the bill. We came here to reminisce about our previous visits, but sadly, it looks like time has passed this place by. We won't return. read more

Deducted a star because the Dinning room is only open to large parties now and partitioned off, hard to find wait staff these days, you are seated in the bar area, which is a nice mix of tables and high bar stool tables and I was locked in the bathroom stall, the lock was jammed and I had to jimmy it open with my bracelet to lift the bolt lock loose. The food was delicious! and came out very fast, our waitress was really fast and checked on us alot. The bar is big and open. They we're out of gnocchi and down to three desserts at 5:30pm on a Sunday, no tiramisu, I would gladly go back because food is home made and really good, I'll just pray they won't be running low. read more

Wow loved this spot ! First time here , only live about a half hour away but will come back ! Bar was cozy and people were friendly . Ordered the Special , short rib Rigatoni and that was amazing ! So flavorful and a really big serving so took some home for the next day and it was great that day too ! Garlic bread was super good ....old school and fluffy not dense , loved it . My family was in town and we decided to do something different and eat at Negri's instead of the other local family restaurant in town ....... shhhh. If you've grown up eating in Occidental, then your family has probably attached their loyalties to one or the other sit down family restaurant. We were starved and had to put our names in the list, because the place was packed. I think we were the last table seated before closing. We ordered their Bruschetta - which they were out of to our disappointment, but it was the end of the night for them. We enjoyed their fried calamari - cooked to a perfect crunch. My son liked their prosciutto pizza and my daughter their Mac n Cheese, which was plenty creamy and perfectly cooked noodles. I had their fried chicken and mashed potatoes, which was wonderful. The bomb, was their homemade raviolis. Omg - we ordered them to taste, and thought their would be leftovers for family back home, but Nope. They were all gone and we had to ask for another order to go. Their sauce was really good and the rave dough super light. We might have to come back just for those! When I tell you this is the BEST Italian food- wow!! We tried just about every restaurant near Occidental this week and this was hands down our favorite (and very affordable price point for the area). They were understaffed on a Saturday night, but the service and food was still incredible. Appetizers, entrees, cocktails, dessert: ALL excellent. Gnocchi and ravioli were very, very good. Nothing disappointed. My partner has never been so adamant about me leaving a glowing review for a business. Before the pandemic the food had already gotten mediocre from years past, nothing special. But now, 5 years later, the food is still meh and they've, seemingly permanently, eliminated the family style service that made dining here unique. Fun memories from being a kid because it was different. Now they're just an OK Italian restaurant open 3 days a week with bar service. And at tourist prices. Don't bother. Things change. They should just go gracefully. Go to Dinucci's in Valley Ford for the family style experience. PS, now having read the many defensive replies to less than stellar reviews from the business manager, I'd suggest that less is more and gracefully replying by asking if there's anything you can do to improve your diners experiences and picking your battles more wisely is the way to go. It just makes you look bad and classless to reply defensively to every negative review. Not everyone will be happy. That's the restaurant business. read more

I'm sad that Negri's hasn't gone back to their pre-covid menu. Getting the soup, bread, salad, salami, ravioli , pickled veggies with your meal was a huge part of why we liked to take a drive to eat here. Hopefully in the future they will consider bringing it back. Our dinner was still good. I got the Chicken Piccata. My dish my of had too much lemon in it for me but it was still tasty and lots of sauce. I don't like when I'm served chicken Piccata with a little sauce and this was not case here. We also ordered the risotto balls.... they were delicious! We took dessert home because we were stuffed but I came home with Carmel apple cheesecake. This would be a five star place if they remodeled it. Don't mind the looks - the food is freaking fantastic. All homemade and passed down from generations. It was so good I drove back another day to pick up the lasagna and bring it home (best I have had). Service is ok - a little slow because they get so busy. It definitely is worth the wait. A lot of family there, love the two matriarchs working there. Again, the ambiance needs work. It is kind of cut in half with two dinning rooms. The doors will be open, letting flies in. Charging for a Diet Coke refill at $4.50 each without verbal warning was offensive. I don't look at the menu to order a soda, if it was on there then maybe it should not be. Rethink your stingy business decision. This alone would make me never come back. $18 for four sodas is insane. Both of us had 1 refill. Nothing nuts here folks. The truffle fries arrived nearly flavorless. Nothing special compared to all other places with truffle fries. The garlic bread was tasty! The ranch in small glass jar was cool and waste free. Love it. The ricotta gnocchi was very dense compared to "regular" style gnocchi, and the creamy pesto sauce was the worst I've ever had. Very disappointing lack of flavor. I've been eating here for 20* years. First time back post pandemic. They no longer are doing family style meals. Which is kinda sad. But I do really appreciate that they added some craft cocktails which are a nice addition. The fontina fondue was yummy. Topped with crispy pancetta and served with crostini. It could have used some acid for balance. Quite rich. The Caesar salad was enough for two. They should mention that. It's $12,25 and that seemed high, but if you realize it serves 2-3 easily. Their Caesar dressing is one of the best I've ever had. The chicken piccata over angel hair is always, always perfection. The short rib and marinara over rigatoni was a special tonight and my husband INHALED it. The chocolate pot de Creme was fabulous. Dark and rich, topped with real whip cream and these chocolate crunchy pearls- it was a perfect meal ender and again, large enough to share. So the menu is mostly the same, but some great new additions. I don't mind the family style being gone, because we got to enjoy what we liked and I was very happy with that. I didn't have the ravioli tonight, but have eaten it over the last 20 years at least 30-40 times. Rich meaty flavor, great sauce, fresh delicate pasta. I am sure this will receive a response from the owner as it seems she responds to all 1 star reviews, but I had to submit my family's experience at Negri's. My family has been going to Negri's since I was a child and it used to be such an amazing experience. Tonight, we didn't even get the chance to eat there. We were excited to go for my mom's 75th birthday and my brother's 37th birthday. We walked in and were told that they only have tall tables that could fit our party of 7. This will not work since my Aunt uses a walker and has limited mobility - she is unable to navigate on to a tall chair. Please understand that there were several empty tables at that time. They then offered us a 4 top, but said we could squeeze 7 people on to it. There was literally no way that 7 people would be able to comfortably eat a meal at the table they were offering so I asked if we could split in to two tables so that we could still eat there. At this time, I was told no because another customer would be unable to eat there if we did that. Needless to say, we felt unwelcomed/unwanted and took our business to another restaurant in town where we were treated far better and enjoyed a wonderful Italian meal. It seemed like they are just unwilling to accommodate customers at this point and that, for some reason, once they saw my Mom and, especially my Aunt with her walker, she (I believe it was the owner) really did not want our business. I will say that the bartender tried to get us some sort of accommodations, but there was a lot of resistance. read more

The owner told me in a rude way "next time make reservations online" as I tried to comment back to her to explain that her website only says reservations for 15+ she walked away from me abruptly. The blonde haired server who came to assist, I asked her if I needed to make reservations online when their website says for 15+ only. She then stated on special holidays they allow reservations and they post it on social media. Well I don't follow their social media so I wouldn't know that. The blonde haired server was very nice and accommodating. She got us drinks that tasted amazing. The food was great. We had an abundance of appetizers and meals. The dining area was fine, it was not too busy but every table was practically full. The servers did a good job at checking in on us. It felt very family style restaurant. It was clean and they were constantly wiping down tables. The reason I give it 3 stars is because of the owners attitude. I have come here many times before, and was thrown off by the way an owner would speak. She may have been having an "off" day but it what she didn't realize is we were having a hard day ourself with recently losing a loved one and was coming to her restaurant because our loved one who passed absolutely loved Negris. It caused me to have a bitter taste in my mouth the rest of the night but the other two servers were very sweet and assisted us with so much! read more

We have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and to this day this is a place to go to when we vacation in Bodega Bay. I do miss sitting at the checkered tablecloths but I under due to Covid only the bar sitting is open. The bar is still very pretty. What to order when you go an entire loaf of garlic bread is amazing! I love minestrone soup and the spaghetti Alfredo or the white wine garlic shrimp pasta. So sad, this is not the Negri's of old! I've been going since I was a little girl. You can no longer eat in the dinning room and are forced to sit in their remolded bar with little, to no atmosphere. The prices they're charging for what you get are outrageous. All alacart menu and nothing special. $25.50 for ravioli, and Texas toast, awful! Extremely expensive cocktails with very little alcohol.
