Came here on a drive between Maine and Connecticut and wanted a lobster roll and whole belly fried clams while still in New England. Yelped and chose Ronnie's because of reviews and we were so happy we did! First, extremely friendly and polite cashier. Second, the order was ready by the time I finished my bathroom break! Third, clams were very crispy, small bellied, and delish. Tartar sauce was good too. My brother-in-law had the clam chowder and said it was excellent. First time here over the weekend. The place was extremely clean, and they had lots of staff behind the counter. We came during a quiet time, but service was very quick. They have a small inside dining room and even smaller outdoor seating area. I had the clam strip dinner. The clam strips were fried perfectly, and it was a great amount of them for $18. The fries actually stole the show - they are fresh, hand cut style fries and they were perfect topped with vinegar and salt! One of my littles had the kids clam strip meal which came with a big amount of strips and fries - perfect size for a kid. My husband had the fried shrimp and said the batter was great and they were cooked just right. Their prices seem to be fairly average for most things but a bit high for clam bellies. Exceptional quality and family dedication to service and cleanliness. I searched Google for best lobster roll on my way from Amherst to Boston and Ronnie's came up on the road. The lobster was fresh, sweet, and tender on a slightly toasted roll, with crispy (looked like hand cut fries), sweet Cole slaw and a bubbling coke. The best part of my experience apart from the excellent food was chatting with the third generation nephew of the founders. The entire team behind the grill and up front, all took pride in their uniforms and the restaurant. I will make the time to stop here again when I'm back in Massachusetts. Definitely worth getting off the main highway to enjoy this delicious family owned and proud to serve seafood restaurant. read more

I wish I could do .5 stars because I would love to give this almost 5 stars. The restaurant was clean and the staff was kind (except for the blond girl at the front. Awful on the phone). I ordered the whole belly clam and fish combo (ask for it as it's not on the menu.) The fish was some of the BEST I've ever had! Holy cow- just amazing. Perfectly moist and flaky. The outer shell was firm and crispy, savory and needed nothing (not even tartar sauce). I'd order that and make the drive just for the fish. You will NOT be disappointed. The clams were good. Not the best I've had as the bellies were small to medium sized. But they were creamy and softly burst in your mouth with a beautiful, flavorful taste. The coleslaw was actually pretty damn surprisingly good. It had a nice, oniony, zing-y bite to it and a rich, velvety texture. I'm not even a fan of slaw but this is some of the best....and I'm extremely picky. The fries were hand cut I believe. They tasted fresh and were a perfect compliment to my crisp seafood. The roll that came with it was a delicious touch. Moist and buttery. All in all- I know I'll be back. It's definitely some of the best seafood in my immediate area. They need to open a Ronnie's on the water! That would be perfect! All in all....I'll probably be back next week. 5 stars for the fish and slaw. 4 for the whole bellies (could definitely be larger) and the price ($19+ for this combo) and 2 for the girl who answered the phone and helped me at the counter. So, you still have to go in person to order. You're not able to order ahead, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This place runs (at least from a customer viewpoint) pretty smooth. The food is consistently good, and waiting for your to go order (3 dinners) on a Friday night was 10-15 mins. When I arrived, there was a line out the door, but it moves quickly. The place isn't dirt cheap, it's about $21 for a Friend Clam Dinner for example. BTW Micheal M complained about "No outside menu's". Granted, the Covid panic was at its peak and the dinning room was closed off. However, there is a menu online (to his defense, probably has a flip phone. Being "Electronically illiterate" avoids those Store "Self Checkouts". May not know how to pay for gas at the pump and drives around in a car by himself "Triple Masked"!) Take out in this area is mediocre, but this place, so far, is consistent. Oh, and those young girls are still Eye Candy! read more

We were looking for some local seafood on the road between Springfield and Boston. It was a few miles off the highway but, unfortunately, the high reviews let us down. You order from the counter and they call your number to come pick up your food. The crowd was all local folks.....all white... and my Hispanic dining mates were kind of giggling at the lack of diversity. They have a large assortment of seafoods....lots of fried options and clam chowder. Not being from the area, we opted for the New England clam chowder and a lobster roll. The chowder was okay but nothing spectacular and the lobster roll, at a hefty $13.95, was a disappointment. They grilled the bread but it was like a Wonder Bread hot dog bun instead of a hearty roll. My wife and I were camping in Sturbridge and tried Ronnie's out. What a great find!! The lobster roll and fried clams were delicious.

We decided to try Ronnie's Seafood as it was only about 30 minutes from our new home. Upon driving up on Sunday afternoon. Parking was plentiful and inside was clean. Was greeted promptly by the girl at counter who quickly asked what we would like to order. We ordered 2 whole clam and scallop plates and 2 sodas. Each plate was $19.99. We got our food in a timely fashion. The scallop portion was small(3 1/2) to each plate, with a handful of clams. Usual amount of fries, coleslaw(was minced and too much slaw dressing..bleh)and a roll. Overall it was just ok. Wasn't a huge fan of their batter. Left you with a flour aftertaste. We probably will not be back. But glad we tried as finding good fish places is harder than you think in this area. Especially when you were raised next to the ocean. We were camping in the next town and craving ice cream. People recommended Ronnie's. After seeing good reviews on yelp we ventured out. The place is very unassuming on the outside, but don't let that stop you from going in. As soon as you get out of the car you are reminded of that smell of fried fish you get down by the shore. They have a great selection of ice cream, and a nice selection fried sea food. Being a lover of fish and chips, I decided on that instead of ice cream. Food was delicious, portion size what you would expect for lunch, however it was a little overpriced. After lunch I got a couple scoops of ice cream. Though much closer to home, this was the first time I ventured over to this location as previously visited the Auburn site. This will not be my last visit. Same good food without all the hustle and bustle. For about $20.00, we each dad a meal plus an ice cream cone for my daughter and neither of us left hungry. My daughter had a kid's hamburger meal, I had a chicken strips dinner. They were not cheap with the fries as both our plates were full. It was not very busy, which contributed to a short wait for our food. The staff was very friendly, even smiling as they cleaned what was a very clean establishment. Great fried seafood! We went a couple days ago at lunch time. Fried clams and fries for both of us. Breading was excellent and clams were so tasty. Fries were a little soggy. Price is a little high for the amount of food, but I expected it. Soooo....on to the ice cream! I had a huge cone. Ice cream was amazing. 4.5 stars... Going to Ronnies has been a family tradition for decades. It's always been the location in Auburn but recently I've discovered this one in Charlton. Turns out the son of the original Ronnies opened this location in the 70s and runs it completely independently of the original location which opened in the 50s. Despite technically being a separate business it's clear that the recipes are the same as the food is pretty identical from what I could tell. The reviewer who gave Ronnies 2 stars because they didn't think of fried clam strips and scallops but rather a raw bar is obviously not from New England because this is your classic New England "seafood shack". In fact to get anything nearly as good as Ronnies you'd have to drive to Ipswich. Yes almost everything is fried and yes it would be nice if that wasn't the case, but this is classic done very well. Unlike the Ronnies in Auburn this location is super clean, spacious, has better hours, and is much less crowded. The service was also very friendly (not that it's bad at the Auburn location). I had the haddock and scallop combo ($15) which comes with fries, a roll, and coleslaw. I got one juicy piece of haddock and 5 big scallops. All fried to perfection where the batter was thin, crispy, with a great texture and does not fall off the seafood. My parents both got the scallop and clam strip combo (also $15) and I could help but steal a bunch of clam strips, which are the best clam strips ever. The meals aren't giant but they give you enough to fill up. I also had the clam chowder which was excellent, though it could have used a few more clams. The fries aren't to be overlooked, they clearly cut their own (or use a really good brand) as the skin is still on the fries. They're not too thick or thin and were hot and crispy. If you're looking for fried seafood and are anywhere in central Mass, look no further than Ronnies! read more

This place is my go to for lobster rolls! Everything is always clean and the place smells very clean too. Now I mention that it smells clean because I have gone to other seafood/ ice cream places similar to Ronnie's and there is a lingering fishy greasy smell. You won't find that at Ronnie's! ;) The people working there are very pleasant and always say hi when I go in, which is often. The prices are slightly higher than I would like to spend but it is quality food and it tastes great so I don't mind. I pay about 10.50 for a lobster roll, it's a good splurge every week or so during the summer season. read more

Every Spring I await the opening of Ronnies. I like the quiet atmosphere away from the traffic and I will never go to the Ronnies in Auburn. I guess I will have to write a review on that one too. This Ronnies is clean, the staff always remembers me when I visit and the service is friendly and fast. The only down side is sometimes if you have a large order to go, they can forget items that you ordered. I always check my order before I leave. I love the ice cream, I always get either a small twist with chocolate sprinkles or pistachio with chocolate sprinkles. My favorite dinner foods are the shrimp, chicken fingers, haddock and clam strips. Now I want to go there...hmmmm...this just may be tonight's dinner! ;-) read more

Ronnie's is good for what it is.. For central Mass, this is the best fried sea food you will probably find. However if you are used to the Cape or Maine fried seafood, especially clams, it will satisfy your craving but still leave you a bit dissapointed. 3 stars means A-OK, and that's exactly what Ronnie's is. The fried clams are average. Our only one complaint was the onion rings, They were terrible. Not good quality and just not worth the money. I wouldn't order them again as a side. However their fries appeared to be hand cut and cooked to perfection.. they were a great addition and the perfect fries to put some malt vinegar on! We also had some ice cream which was Richardson's ice cream from Reading MA. This is my favorite type of ice cream so I'm glad there is somewhere around the area that serves it! I know there are tons more flavors of Richardson's that they didn't carry at Ronnies, so I would like to see some new flavors that are even better than the ones they serve! Ronnies in Charlton is always good. Fresh, fried seafood, onion rings and fries are always a great choice. They lobster rolls are just as fresh and delish. Clam chowder isn't the greatest with mostly potatoes, they'd be better off selling a seafood chowder and adding some of the other ingredients they always have on hand. Likewise adding a broiled or baked option would be nice for those who dont or can't eat fried food. They have delicious ice cream but I don't know if that's still available due to Covid. They keep the restaurant nice and clean. Friendly workers most of the time and the family members are usually onsite working so you know there's an interest in how well the business is run. Seasonal, they close late fall and open in the spring and again due to Covid I believe it's only take out and check for hours. Covid takes its toll on all of us and it stinks but Ronnies Seafood in Charlton, (I cant speak for Auburn) is a really great place to try and you will likely keep coming back.
