I had Howard's Heating and Cooling perform same basic repairs to my home oil heat boiler. The work was done by Howard who has been doing this work for many years and he did excellent work. HOWEVER THE COST OF DOING THIS WORK WAS TOO EXPANSIVE for what was done. I was charged $640 for the following: 1. I was charge $95 for the service call and trip fee. I live 3 miles away from their business address! 2. He spent about 1.5 hours doing the work. Total cost $250 (looks like labor rate is $167/hour) 3. Parts cost used for repair work were inflated by 3 times as can be bought in H/W supply stores. a. 3/4 pressure relieve value- charged $110 (store cost $30) b. 3/4 ball valve $60 - charged $60 (store cost $27) c. Replace floor nut on oil line $30 (cost approx $3) I had previously used Howard's to perform my yearly oil-burner maintenance and thought that his cost was fair since he did and excellent job. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU GET PROJECT COST QUOTE BEFORE THE WORK IS PERFORMED. read more

We had the owner Howie from Howards Heating and Cooling clean our oil burner and he did a horrible job. Firstly, he didn't even have a long handle type boiler cleaning steel wire brush with him? Anyone cleaning oil burners for a living, knows that you need to clean the soot build-up off the boiler fins with a long type steel wire brush to make the oil burner run much more efficient. Second off all, we saw his website with the price of $145.00 for an oil burner tuneup (see picture). We called him to confirm the price and made the appointment. And then when he was finished he said it was $165.00. Looks like Howie uses a bait and switch tactic. I asked him why it was more, and he had no answer. There is nothing more on my receipt than what is mentioned on his ad for $145.00. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Howards Heating and Cooling. He makes up the prices as he's goes along and even when he gets caught he doesn't honor his advertised price. read more

Howard came out within days of contacting him and gave me a reasonable estimate to replace my 30-year-old oil furnace that had days left to it unfortunately it ran my hot water and needed to be replaced immediately during the summer June 2020 Howards gave me an install date for about a week and a half which was extremely reasonable given everyone is having air-conditioning problems as it's getting extremely hot out. He was extremely organized and did very clean work. Installing. He arrives on time. He was respectful polite and extremely sincere. He's an extremely nice professional man with a lot of heart and I will always use him going forward for any needs to my new furnace or water heater in the future. I am giving Howie an upgrade. He has comeback now several times and has serviced my furnace and has some some HVAC work and has done a wonderful job. He is very through, and has attention to detail. Also friends has used him and he has found serious issues with their heating system and has corrected the issue, and literally may have saved their lives. This gentleman is as good as they come. A true hero. Most people don't picture a plumber when they think of a hero. Howie will change that. Last winter when it was -20 our furnace gave out. It was an old unit, and wasn't going to be a pretty fix. Howie came right away, but since it was late afternoon we assumed he would start the repair the following day. Nope. He saw how cold it was in our apartment and made it his mission to completely rip out and replace the motor in our furnace right then and there. It took hours, but he didn't give up. He refused to let me spend another night in a freezing home. It was like watching a triathlete, he overcame every obstacle this old house threw at him. After calling our company who had done our work in the past, and our oil burner is our secondary heat source and it failed when we wanted it, but had not purchased fuel oil since our last service work our account had become inactive so they refused to do work for us. Willow found Howard online, and he has good reviews so we called him. He was at our home the same day and fixed our boiler at a reasonable price! Howie put in an A/C unit for us a few days ago. It works great. He went above and beyond typical installation methods. The attic door was too small to fit the air handler and he removed the frame and put it back at no extra cost. He cleaned up when finished and he installed the condenser and air handler for less than half of an estimate another company provided. All name brand equipment. We bought a house and the boiler was leaking. Howard had been servicing it for the previous owner so we called him to take a look. He charged a diagnostic fee, said the coil had to be replaced, and tried to sell us a whole new unit. We got a second opinion from the oil company we were using and they said that the boiler was fine, it was leaking due to excess pressure build up since Howard had not been cleaning the unit properly, and fixed the issue for about the same price as Howard's "diagnostic" fee had been. Definitely will not be calling Howard again. read more

I used Howards Heating for a furnace replacement. I could have selected the furnace unit myself and had it shipped to my house for the same $ and had him install it. Now I wish that's what I had done. I think the unit he selected is oversized and not efficient. He wanted payment in full before the job was completed. I said NO. Payment terms had not been discussed before the install. He even went so far as to unplug the unit and leave the house without heat (in winter!) because I only paid for 1/2 the project cost before completion. I also couldn't stay there until it was completed and do not live nearby. And instead of invoicing me, within days, he sent me a certified letter threatening to sue me and drove to the town building official and told them my setup isn't to code. Total extortion. I would not use him again. Very unprofessional. In fact, he's the most unprofessional contractor I've ever dealt with. I also think his license in MA at least has expired. Beware! read more

Our heating system went down over a weekend where the wind chill was supposed to be in the negatives(!) New to the area, I called Daigle Plumbing & Heating and found out they are closed on the weekends. Frantic and trying to keep my baby warm, I finally came across Howard's Heating & Cooling on HomeAdvisor, which said they did 24/7 emergencies . Howie came out within the same hour and was able to fix our issue for a very reasonable price! I highly recommend Howard's Heating & Cooling and will be using their services going forward. read more

Howard does a great job, but his best quality is that he cares. He came to my house in the middle of the winter at 10pm to repair my furnace, he had the correct part and got my house warm again. Three times now in the last three months, Howie has come to the rescue. As a landlord to a 4-apartment house, plenty of things go wrong just when you don't want them to. Like Christmas Eve, when one tenant calls to say that they have no heat. It wouldn't reset, needed a controller, and no place was even open to get one. Howie had Christmas Eve plans, but still returned my call in less than 10 minutes and was at my place within the hour. The problem was solved less than a half hour after that. I was so grateful! He is officially my go-to guy now! He has also replaced a water heater that serviced all four apartments - our gas supplier red-tagged it as inoperable and couldn't install a new one for TWO WEEKS. I picked up a hot water heater and Howie came the next day to install it for us, and all for less than the gas supplier would have done it for! He was great, and I will look to him to install a new furnace in one of the apartments in the spring. He was quick, didn't try to swindle me in any way for unnecessary services, did a great job, and did it all with a smile on his face and a handshake.
