I received an approximate estimate by phone, which was precisely what I was charged! Another referral by Yelp! (ER Plumbing) was totally ridiculous and given to me without ANY facts or attempt to even "troubleshoot" a problem! I was presented with TWO Estimates; $2,021.00 OR $1,472.00 to "clear the main sewer line backing up into toilet" I would NEVER recommend ER Plumbing, this was a clear Rip-off.....beware! read more

Do not use these scam artists. I had a pump go on a downstairs bathroom that lasted over 15 years. In Dec of 2019, the pump goes and these yahoos replaced it...lasted 10 months. When I call them I never mention anything about a warranty, but they inform me that there is no warranty or guarantee on their work, so they wont even go to look at it to see what's wrong. They could have charged me again, i just wanted it fixed. I'm so glad they didn't, because I had a reputable company fix it and it was done properly with better workmanship. Fair warning: "PHD Plumbing" hasn't done any job in my house, but in this review I assume that if they did, the job would've been of a high quality. So, why is one star? Answer is simple - I believe it's a rip-off business. My story: back in November 2023 my 17-years old boiler died - as boilers always do, it did it on a weekend. It was pretty cold already and in a panicking mode I started calling whoever is available - "PHD" was one of them. They came, very professional, looked at the damage and told me that the whole system needs replacement - and I agreed. Long story short: the entire job - new boiler, old system removal, fixing some existing safety/"not to the code" issues etc. - $22,400 (before taxes, and they could start only two weeks later!) Fortunately, I didn't stop and kept calling and found two more companies one quoted $10K, another - $9K. I went with the $10K one because they could start working the next day. BTW, during the assessment "10K" guy quoted the exact same equipment, pointed to the exact same issues that need to be fixed - but all for LESS THAN HALF the price of "PHD". Job was finished in two days, very high quality, tidy job - no complains, very happy! Bottom line: in situation like mine - which is most common - HVAC guys believe they have you over the barrel and you don't have any choice other than to pay whatever they want to charge you, however outrageous. When I asked why the price is so high, they tried to sell me some BS about "overhead", "price of quality" etc. - and other nonsense. Unfortunately for them, I knew a thing or two about all this and didn't buy their BS. Bottom line: unless you REALLY have no other choice, skip "PHD" and keep looking, as I did - and you'll be rewarded by saving many thousands of good, hard-earned cash. Good luck! Update 02/23/2024: In his reply PHD owner could do nothing better than "...I'm suspecting your installation was done at a lower cost due to a lack of licensing and insurance" and other degrading comments - with ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE. Let me reassure you, dear PHD, that company that installed new boiler is properly licensed and fully insured, with many stellar reviews on Yelp and Google and they did an excellent job! Explanation for 12K difference is different - they are just not as greedy as you are and/or can manage their business better. Have to add that, as far as quality goes, it was only my ASSUMPTION that you would do a good job - just giving you a benefit of a doubt, so to speak. Honestly yelpers... The best company that ever came to my home and fixed the problem that I have been dealing with for the past five years,yes,five years. I've had numerous heating companies come out to fix my boiler and in total have spent 7,800.00 dollars and nothing has worked. I went on Yelp Sunday and put out a search request for my ongoing boiler problem. I was quoted from prices from 400/to 1900 dollars. I'm not afraid to pay money for good work but in the he past 5 years I have been taken to the cleaners by dishonest companies. Lies and deception is what I have been going through as well as price gauging. Finally on Sunday the owner of this company replied to my request to once again venture into fixing my ongoing boiler problem. I was getting no heat on third floor and minimal on second floor. The worker showed up today at 9 am as promised. The owner gave me a honest fair quote on the work. I again had to trust someone to do the right thing. Well today the heater technician showed up on time and after a few exchanges of what I have been going through and his gathering of my problems and concerns did not waste time and went right to work ! At approx. 1130 ish the technician was done and he hit the electrical switch and turned my boiler on. He professionally without rushing got my boiler back up and running again. It turns out it was the circulator pump in the rear of the boiler. Yes it was a pain in the ass for this technician to get at but he did not complain once. He came in,went to work and did the job like a true professional. I was told by 4 other so called reputable boiler companies that I needed 2000 dollars to repair what was needed to get my boiler up and running. Those quotes where all lies and fabrication. All I needed was a 200 dollar circulator pump. I have been told by numerous other companies that that is what I needed but after they saw what a pain in the he ass it would be to get at and change out the pump they all ran the other way and made me do work I didn't need. I have 7800 dollars in receipts that I paid for work that was done and didn't need. This company I hired and paid in full today is the company you need to call. They are up front and honest and come to your house on time and ready to work ! I can't say enough about the owner and his technician he sent to my house ! Totally awesome and professional ! 5 years of basically no heat in my bedrooms because of companies lieing and doing work that shouldn't be done. If you have boiler issues or any other issues that fall under what type of work his company does for a profession,give them a call. I don't do long reviews like this to often but they deserve every bit of this review because they deserve to be called upon when having a boiler issues. They deserve the work and not the companies that try to do work that doesn't need to be done. Don't settle for second best when it comes to your heating issues. I can't say enough good things about this Company. We recently had our water tank go and our boiler was on its last leg. We just recently had a baby and came home from the hospital with all this happening. Not only did Tina squeeze us in asap but James was such a pleasure and blessing to work with. He sat with me for over an hour explaining the pros and cons of different options to consider and what would save us the most long term. He may have made more money in the long run if he just replaced my water tank and waited for the boiler to go; Instead he explained the benefits of doing a combination unit. James and Josh came to install a simple water spigot in our back yard and we were so pleased with the work and the price, we ended up converting our old oil heating system to a new gas system. The nicest customer service I've ever had and from plumbers!!! The secretary/co-owner and the plumber were very easy to work with. I called 10 places, got 5 call backs, and 3 estimates from others. PHD plumbing has far best prices than anyone I've called!! They even post their prices online, which most people do not do. Although my plumber cut my garbage disposal line and caused a leaky faucet, he repaired both and felt bad about the extra time it took, eventually giving me an even $200 (good price) for the two kitchen valves installation. I've used PHD for the following: * Dishwasher install (and removal) * Estimate on fixing pipes in basement * Toilet install (and removal) * Boiler install (and removal) The first three jobs were very standard. PHD came in and did the job at the price they quoted me, it was good work and I'd do it the same way again. The last of these jobs was an emergency install. On Friday night our boiler started hemorrhaging water and we had to shut off. I called PHD and received a response within an hour from Tina (at around 8:30PM). I sent pictures of the damage, she spoke to the guys, and they came to the conclusion it needed to be replaced. They came on Sunday to review the damage and size up the space and came to the same conclusion. On Monday they ordered and received a replacement to my house, and worked until 8PM, and on Tuesday they completed the job. They stuck to their estimate despite the additional working hours on Tuesday, and cut new pipe to balance the boiler. The new boiler is much more efficient, both because it's new and a better boiler, but also because of this additional work. We no longer hear tremendous banging in our pipes, and because the system is that much more efficient we had to decrease the heat to the first floor. read more

As first-time homeowners, my husband and I go into a full blown panic as soon as anything breaks. This could've very easily been the situation with our latest break - the drain from our bathtub was leaking into our kitchen via one of the recessed lights. After a consult with a different and untrustworthy plumber, I called PHD and was immediately reassured by Tina, who walked me through everything that would happen once the plumbers arrived on-site. She also called me this morning to let me know their ETA so I was prepared for their arrival. James and CJ arrived exactly when expected, and within 45 minutes had the situation resolved without ever having to cut into my ceiling. Tried to repair a toilet water supply valve myself and got into a jam with it. Had to shut the water off and Called PHD around 3p or so not expecting to get someone out until the following day.
