    Pasta e ceci
    James P.

What a find. Woefully under-rated on Yelp. Look at OpenTable for reviews from true foodies. This is a hidden gem in a quieter part of Austin. Wifey and I found street parking directly across from the restaurant. Ambience is modern, airy, and bright. Atmosphere is casual. Menu is small and focused, but with an ample array of farm-to-table offerings. We shared the polpette (Wagyu brisket & heritage pork meatballs): melt-in-your mouth deliciousness with tomato jam and lovely spices. Wifey had pasta e ceci and I the mafaldine; she thought mine was better and vice versa, so we shared. Both were fresh and flavorful with a lot of depth. We washed it all down with a lovely bottle of Italian white wine. I had the cannoli for dessert. We happened to arrive during happy hour on Saturday, so the wine and some of the food were discounted. The host, server, and manager were courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly.

This is my favorite restaurant in Austin. I love that the menu is always a lil different. I always sit at the bar with a date or friend and love how nice the bartenders and severs are. It feels classy and homey at the same time. I dream about the focaccia.

Very nice servers and the ambiance is nice. Definitely more casual than I thought after walking by a lot. The pasta was good, best prices is the happy hour for cheaper bottles and select pasta. Would definitely go again! They change their menu often to meet in season ingredients so that often changes

The restaurant is situated in a cute part of town (near a pond with lots of birds, etc.), has outdoor seating, and has charming decor. The waiter let us know that a few of the apps were permanently on the menu, and the rest rotates periodically. We loved the pastas so much, it was difficult to decide which one was our favorite. Our only regret was not having enough stomach space to order ALL of the pastas.

We stumbled upon L'Oca d'Oro while trying to find a place to eat for dinner. Their menu is creative, and I enjoyed both of the pasta dishes we ordered. The saltiness of the guanciale pairs really well with acidity from the tomato sauce of the rigatoni. The mafaldine was rich, and the candied almonds on top balanced out the earthy, umami mushroom flavor and added a nice crunchy texture. I didn't personally care for the focaccia. I found it to be on the chewier side, and I prefer a bread that is crunchier and fluffy/airy. I also prefer if bread is served warm and fresh. I didn't get much of a rosemary taste to it, and it was also slightly burnt. The service was exceptional. Our server explained each dish in detail and gave great recommendations when I had a hard time deciding.

This was an interesting experience for sure. I wanted to sample a variety to see what the craze is about and for me this wasn't it. I've been to Italy and am use to a variety of well made authentic dishes. None of these dishes really stood out. The flavor profile was bland. Our waiter was not friendly and in a rush the entire meal. There's not really an ambiance here--I wish it was cozy and well decorated so the prices match the setting but this is not the case. The menu is very limited which, isn't necessarily a bad thing but, what is listed for the mains isn't very descriptive and the waiter didn't explain things well. They don't really have any wine by the glass so, I opted for the Limoncello Spritz which was standard but had way too much ice. Notable items I tried: The focaccia ($10) was good and you get 2 slices. Swordfish tartine ($14) was bland and expensive for 1 slice of toast. The Rigatoni was okay ($24). The portion sizes are incredibly small and that's disappointing. I cannot justify spending $200+ here on any celebratory occasion nor did anything stand out to come again for me personally. The menu is rotating so give it a try if you enjoy Italian food.

Came here while visiting friends, our server was an absolute delight of a human. Their pastas are fantastic and the decor was mid century. I will certainly be back the next time I'm in Austin.

I went to this restaurant for dinner with my boyfriend. I love the ambience, we sat on one of the tables online. We made a reservation online so we didn't have to wait, but there were some tables available to sit if needed. We ordered two pastas and also got some complementary champagne in the beginning, which was delicious. Our server was really sweet and helped us decide which dishes to order as we wanted to only order vegetarian food. The flavors were delicious, would 100% visit again!

Went for Pay What You Will meal on Tuesday recently and got two pastas, two appetizers, and a dessert. They were still working out some of the kinks as the second pasta dish took awhile to come out. We got the spaghetti with olive carbonara and the fusilli with mustard cashew cream, as well as the meatballs and the roasted sweet potatoes. Also loved the focaccia with the honey butter - absolutely addictive. Appetizers were substantial and well balanced with their flavors. Loved how the roasted sweet potatoes weren't sickeningly sweet and had a nice, nutty char. Will definitely be back.

I can't say enough good praising just how wonderful this restaurant is. The service was kind and prompt, and everyone was helping everyone. The ambiance was perfect for our anniversary but would also be appropriate for a random Tuesday night self-care night. But, the food, oh man, THE FOOD. I haven't closed my eyes and savored every single bite like that in a long, LONG time. Everything was perfect. Flavors were paired well. Serving sizes were perfect. The melon sorbet has a scotch bonnet candy with it and it was just the absolute perfect amount of spice to pair with the freshness of the sorbet and nuts. We very much appreciated the complimentary bubbly for our anniversary, and the mixed beverages were crafted to perfection. And that basil was SO FRESH I couldn't stop smelling it. I wish we didn't live a whole state away!

This place has the most underrated happy hour! The deals on the spritzes and pasta are awesome. I love the rotating pasta dishes and how fresh it always tastes. The vibes inside are bright and I love that you can see the kitchen from the bar. Service is also usually pretty quick and everyone is very nice! They even give the ducks outside water cups. Highly recommend

Been wanting to try this place for awhile so finally made it here on a Sunday evening, and just in time for happy hour (4-6pm everyday)! They have great HH specials and I would highly recommend stopping by during that time, because otherwise the menu is short and pretty expensive (overpriced IMO). There's only 2 pastas that are on the HH menu and we got both - they were both great but would never pay regular price for them (almost $30 each). The Rosemary sourdough foccacia to start was great, especially with the honey butter that it's served with. Spritz's were good (fairly standard) and it's a cute little spot; just limited menu and I don't know how often it changes.

I've never run to write a Yelp review faster! That was one of the best meals I've ever had in my entire life. The food is phenomenal (made with local ingredients), the service is excellent, and the environment is comfy and beautiful. The quality of the ingredients is off the charts and the sauces are truly outstanding. My daughter and I got spritzers for our drinks. Strawberry-fennel and limonata. We couldn't decide which one we liked best, so we just kept swapping with one another. Both were so fresh tasting and delicious. Perfect for hot weather. Highly recommend the meatballs to start! The meat quality is unreal and the sauce is perfection. Also the fresh mozzarella. I asked about it because it was so good and apparently they make it in-house! We also got carrots that tasted like dessert. I can't even describe them. They were crunchy and fresh, and in a sweet pistachio butter (I think that's what it was?). Whatever it was, it was absolute perfection. We'd finished every bite of our starters so we were pretty full by the time our main dishes (pasta) arrived, but we found a way to make room. ;) My daughter's favorite was one with fennel sausage and tomato (incredible), and my favorite was in a brown butter lemon sauce (perfect). The portions were really big so we took half of each to go. Can't wait to have it for lunch tomorrow! We said we couldn't eat another bite but...we found room for dessert of course. My daughter picked dessert for us and she chose the mint chocolate chip cannoli. I was born and raised in NY and have had many, many cannolis over the years. Theirs was one of the very best! Loved the mint twist. The only thing I regret is not leaving room for an extra dessert. They had tiramisu on the menu. Now that I'm home, I'm feeling pretty sad that I didn't just order it to go. Next time! Speaking of next time, we're planning to go back very, very soon. What a special night. Yelp needs to give the option for 10 stars because sometimes you have a meal that's just that perfect. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Rosé Gosé was a delightful Mother's Day lunch spot. It is a whole vibe, and it is uniquely French! When we walked in an artist was playing romantic music on his keyboard, which set the tone for the brunch. It is a small restaurant inside with a larger area of seating on the patio. Of course, our reservations were inside in the comforts of air conditioning. You immediately notice a wine wall hence the name Rosé Gosé. The restaurant has many windows which provide lots of natural light. The tables house miniature yellow roses and utensils sat in a small wooden block...very French. All the servers were dressed in mauve clothing that resemble scrubs from a hospital. If someone stepped out in a French beret, I would have fallen over. Our server, Sergey, immediately served us water and took our order. The restaurant was highlighted as a modern European bistro. The atmosphere was charming, elegant, and stylish making it ideal for a Mother's Day brunch. My hubby ordered a ribeye, eggs and French Fries. I ordered the avocado toast with salmon and egg whites. While I'm not a huge red meat eater, I tasted a piece of the hubs ribeye and it was nicely prepared. My avocado toast was yummy to the nth degree! Everything was perfect. The avocado was precisely cut and at the right level of softness. The salmon was chopped into tiny little squares and so enjoyable to eat. We could not be more pleased. With a name like Rosé Gosé you would expect their drinks to be superb. My hubby ordered a hibiscus tea, which was delightful. I ordered a holiday cheese box on December 3 as a Christmas gift. My card was charged immediately. The order never shipped, and I received no communication until I followed up myself, multiple times. After the holidays, I learned (only because I kept pushing) that my order had been internally canceled due to a system glitch, with no email, no refund, and no outreach. I was repeatedly told it would ship on specific dates that came and went. A replacement order was finally sent in January. It arrived late, wet, with melted and ruptured ice packs, and the cheese was very soft to the point my friends weren't sure it was safe to eat. The box also lacked the gift note that was supposed to be included. What bothers me most is that my card would have stayed charged indefinitely if I hadn't chased this down myself. That's not okay especially for perishable food. It's a real shame, because the product itself is great. But based on this experience, I can't recommend ordering gifts or anything time-sensitive unless the fulfillment and communication processes dramatically improve.

I tried to call and got a message that they were too busy to answer the phone and to send an email instead. I sent the email and the reply was We are very busy but doing everything we can to fulfill orders. They promised to overnight any orders not shipped on Monday. On the day before Thanksgiving I found out they did not ship my order and essentially asked that I understand because they are so busy. They offered to ship my order later and they would throw something in for free for my inconvenience. This was a standard poorly written customer communication. I replied and explained how after their reassurances they had left me without my order or sufficient time to find a suitable replacement. This time a got a genuine reply from Luis, but same offer full refund, or some free item. It nice for them that they are so busy that they can't fulfill customer orders on time. My experience was being left holding the bag last minute and not much in the way of an apology.

With this place coming up on almost 500 Yelp reviews and sitting at four+ stars, that says something. It's located at a convenient location on 51st just a few blocks from I 35 and sits at the corner of Lancaster beneath three stories of apartments. There's only about six parking spaces available in front of the restaurant, otherwise you'll have to park in some other retail spaces further away. Inside it's quite small and intimate with about a dozen tables on the floor and 8 chairs at the bar. They do post some daily specials on the board when you walk in or you can stick to the menu. They do have a wine menu, but it's only limited to 22 choices at 2-3 times retail. We started off with some fried cheese ravioli and calamari. I loved the light breading on the calamari rings and no tentacles were included. My main course of chicken Parmesan was some of the best I've ever had. My guest enjoyed his entrée of shrimp and muscles. We washed it all down with a glass of their organic primativo. We then finished it all off with a dense chocolate fudge cake. You can easily spend $200 a couple for apps, entrées, wine, dessert, and tip. We showed up on a Friday evening without a reservation and there was just a few people in the restaurant, but it's best to make reservations for Valentines. However, there was really only one objective thing wrong with Gino's on 51st street. Everything else was a matter of personal taste. Personal tastes can vary in what one wants to see in an American Italian restaurant. * * * The only objective fail was a fried calamari appetizer. The fry job was not good and the calamari were tough and not too tasty. People don't go to Italian restaurants just to get fried calamari, even though it is a common enough appetizer. * * * The one objective WOW WOW WOW was their chocolate cake. Steve W and I split one of these babies. It is kept in the refrigerator and served ice cold. The stuff is totally addictive. No matter how the rest of your meal goes, The chocolate cake will atone for all sins. * * * Now for the matters in dispute. The big question is do you like your American Italian tomato forward or tomato restrained? I grew up in Boston in the 1950s and 1960s where all the Italian food was tomato restrained. This included the famous Italian houses in the North End and our family's favorite, Simeone's in Cambridge. The recipes at Gino's could have come out of any those establishments. This explains Steve W's vigorous thumbs up. * * * American Italian in Philadelphia is tomato forward. Boston has evolved into a tomato forward town although exceptions do exist in particular houses. After I graduated high school and went out in the world, I discovered tomato forward. (Including, in Manhattan, a Legendary Spaghetti Caruso which was tomato forward with chicken livers. Sarah Vaughan was singing gospel to the diners. Now THAT was one meal I will never forget!) Once I discovered tomato forward, there was no going back. Whenever I cook Italian, I cook tomato forward. Whenever I encounter tomato restrained, I go "That's Nice, Dear." * * * Steve W.'s chicken parmigiana and my cioppino were both tomato restrained. I make a killer cioppino myself (although I have been bested by more than one West Coast seafood establishment.) Cioppino needs to be tomato forward all the way - and when you get down right to it, totally heavy-handed with the tomato. Needing tomato was especially important at Gino's where the seafood was on again off again. (Scallops and clams were legitimately superb. The shrimp like the calamari, not so much.) So I enjoyed part of my meal. * * * Fortunately, Steve W. is a dazzling conversationalist with a wealth of knowledge about a wide range of topics. So the dinner was marvelous, when I thought less about my food and more about the ideas he was putting forward. And there was that cake. So as a total experience, the night was five stars. * * * However, if you are going without Steve W., Then watch yourself on the menu. Something like an Alfredo or a Piccata might be a better main dish call. That - and be sure to order dessert. (Heh heh)

Everyone that we came in contact with was friendly. Service was great! Enjoyed the menu as well. Received a free appetizer as it was our first time there. All food items were delicious, including a salad, which we split. My soup was outstanding, although candidly I can't remember exactly what it was, but super tasty. The beef and chicken skewers were my favorite, particularly the beef. No latte was odd, but coffee was good. Price was reasonable for this city. Nicely done!

We're in Austin this weekend for the Foodieland festival and after being completely underwhelmed yesterday, we were on the hunt for actually good food and wine... enter Postinos. The place is quaint with a perfect wine bar vibe and great seating. We were greeted right away and the staff was genuinely so sweet. But let's be honest, the food stole the show. We had the bruschetta board and two paninis, and every single bite was competing with the last for best on the table. And the cherry on top? $6 glasses of delicious wine that carried us right through the meal. This place alone almost makes me sad to leave Austin tomorrow.

The staff can always help point you in the right direction and are super nice. Some of the glasses can be $16+, which is why I also love that they have the "house" selections for under $10, which are also always good. We've even been part of the LoLo wine club which id recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about wine, and you get a cute tote bag, a win win. Depending on the day we will hang out inside or outside, both equally enjoyable. It's always a nice time at LoLo!

In addition to wines they have packaged beers. I am usually a beer drinker but I ended up with a Sangria; I like wine and fruit, what can I say? I enjoyed it, even though I'm not a frequent wine drinker. I also was feeling a little buzzed so-time for some food! They have a very limited food menu and so the only thing that appealed to both of us was the baguette and Spanish olive oil. The olive oil was flavorful and spicy, it was fresh and flavorful and GOOD. The majority of olive oils I've had as an accompaniment to bread has been just...moist. Staff was friendly and approachable, and nowhere near snooty or pretentious.

The half portion ceviche is a great decision because it allows a solo diner (like me) to enjoy more items on the menu. You can expect each device bite to be fresh, tangy, and slightly spicy. The Cachetada and Bokchoy both also had deep flavours, but are quite overpriced for their portions. I came here to find the best seafood spots in the area, and I think the Pescado a la crema delivered. The halibut completely melted in my mouth and was enriched with the salsa cremosa. The baby shrimps adds a nice texture and the squash completed the smoothness of the entree. The dish is still on the smallef end, so ordering starters dishes are necessary to acquire fullness. The Pineapple Tarte was suggested by my waitress Chelsea. The item did not intrigue me on the menu, but the recommendation completely proved me wrong. It is like a slightly milder Key Lime Pie, but with a smoother yet still denser texture. With the crumble bottom adding a nice crunch, the dessert wonderfully wrapped my experience at Este. The dishes can be adjusted to your preference, which is the cherry on the top to come back for more. I can't wait to share this soot with my friends and family.
